Carl E. Wilber

CORINNA AND PITTSFIELD - Carl E. Wilber, 80, of Pittsfield passed away October 23rd at Sebasticook Valley Hospital. Has was born December 11th, 1922, in Merrimack, NH, the son of Percy and Eva Wilber. He was a World War II veteran.
Carl spent the majority of his working years at the Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna. For many of those years he worked in the maintenance department where he was well known for his ability to repair almost anything.
Carl will be lovingly remembered for his dry wit, kind heart and generous spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion of Pittsfield; children, John and Linda Wilber of Dexter, Carleen and Donald Harriman of Pittsfield, Brent and Sherry Wilber of Corinna, Loretta Wilber and Jerry Martin of Pittsfield and Hartland; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Robert and Peter Wilber, Angela Cupples, Christopher Harriman and Ellie Martin; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Lauren, Colby, Dustin, Emily, Courtney, Nicole, Kylie, and Ethan; a sister, Marian Sinclair of Corinna; brothers, David Wilber of Corinna and Harold Wilber of Pittsfield; inlaws, Charlie and Marjorie Simpson and Elmer and Pat Pearl of Florida. Also, many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Betty Palmer.
At the family's request, there will be a private graveside service. Those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Sebasticook Valley Hospital Building Fund.

Donald A. Bean, Sr.

CORINNA - Donald A. Bean Sr., 61, died October 26, 2003, at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born February 27, 1942, in Skowhegan, son of Arthur and Bertha (Lancaster) Bean. He worked for the Hartland Tannery and later for Eastland Woolen Mills in Corinna, retiring due to a disability. He is survived by his wife, of 39 years, Rebecca (Cook) Bean of Corinna; his mother; a son, Donald Bean Jr., a daughter, Angela and husband, Chester Barnes; 2 brothers, David and his wife, Nancy Bean and James Bean; a granddaughter, Brianna Bean; nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held at 1 PM Thursday, October 30, 2003, at the Corinna Village cemetery with the Reverend Edward Jaworski officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Corinna.

Arnold L. Carson

STETSON - Arnold L. Carson, 60, died October 13, 2003 at his Mt. Pleasant Road residence. He was born October 30, 1942 at Bangor a son of Merrill and Mildred (Baber) Carson. Arnold attended Carmel schools and served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Cianbro Corporation as a truck driver.
Arnold also had his own band, Country Redwood, and played guitar at weddings, snowmobile clubs, bottle clubs and singles clubs. In addition to his mother of Bangor, he is survived by his companion of 14 years, JoAnn Gray; 3 sons, Terry Carson of California, Eric Carson of Plymouth, and Corey Carson of Newport; 2 brothers, Harold Richard Carson of Guilford, and Charles Sechrest of England; 9 grandchildren. Friends called from 6-8 PM on Wednesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services were held at 11 AM Thursday, October 16th, with the Reverend George Darling, Pastor of Peoples United Methodist Church in Newport officiating. Burial was in Clarks Hill cemetery, Stetson. Donations in his memory may be made to CancerCare of Maine, c/o Eastern Maine Charities, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, ME 04402.

Raymond K. Ferris, Sr.

DETROIT - Raymond K. Ferris Sr., 69, of Detroit, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital, Togus, Maine. He was born in Guilford, Maine on January 19, 1934 the son of Kenneth R. and Lillian (Gray) Ferris. Raymond proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He liked to hunt and fish, and enjoyed telling fish stories. He worked for Keyes Fibre from the 1960's to the 1990's. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother Donald Ferris. Raymond is survived by his wife of 49 years Beverly (Brann) Ferris of Detroit; his children: Raymond Ferris Jr. and his wife Fani of Pittsfield; Brenda Keniston of Freeport; Patricia Johnson and her husband Mark of Pittsfield; Melanie McGowan and her husband Jeffery of Pittsfield; and Cindy Ferris and her significant other Laurence Morang of Detroit; three sisters: Betty Randall and her husband Don of Bangor; Joyce Day and her husband Lew of Dexter; and Hazel Maxwell and her husband Ed of Levant, Maine; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service in the spring at the Detroit cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to the Veterans Hospital, V.A. Voluntary Service, 1 VA Center, Togus, Maine 04330. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave, Belfast, Maine.

Carl L. Sprague, Sr.

STETSON - Carl Louis Sprague, Sr., 67, passed away December 31, 2003 at a Bangor hospital with his wife and family at his side. He was born March 25, 1936 at Bangor, the son of Ralph and Doris (Leathers) Sprague. He worked in the woods for many years and was also employed as a truck driver. He attended the Stetson Union Church. Carl loved music and started playing the guitar as a young boy. He passed this love on to his children and spent many nights playing with friends. Since his retirement, he spent much of his time tinkering around the house with his wife, Kathleen, and raising Bantam hens and quail. He enjoyed woodworking and making miniature sleighs and wagons. Carl also enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, his poker games with family and friends and laughing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Together with his wife of 49 years, Kathleen (Allen) Sprague, he raised 7 children. His family will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife of Stetson; his children, Debra Bartlett and Carl Sprague, Jr. both of Exeter, Patty Woodard of Pittsfield, Charlene Eells and Rebecca Lint both of Stetson, Clarice Decker of Dexter; 2 sisters, Kay Elwell of Dexter and Glenice Dugans of Milo; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ralph Peter Sprague. Friends called from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna where funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon with the Reverend David Ray, Sr. officiating. Spring burial will be at the Clarks Hill cemetery, Stetson.

Carol A. Hudson Sykes

NEWPORT - Carol A. Hudson Sykes, age 55, died Monday, December 15, 2003 at her sons home in Newport following a courageous battle with cancer. Carol was born January 8, 1948 in Hartland, ME. The daughter of Chester and Kathleen M. (Smith) Hudson. She attended Pittsfield and Detroit schools. Carol had been working for Lovelys Motel in Newport for several years. Carol was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and cherished her friends. She had a green thumb for all things growing and was a foster mother to all in need of love. She will always be remembered for her love that she gave, and the understanding she had for others. Carol had a heart of gold and a soul that will never be forgotten. Carol will be missed by all and cherished in our hearts for all eternity. Rest in peace, and we will meet again. Carol is survived by her mother Kathleen Hudson, of Pittsfield. A sister Linda and her husband Ellery Batchelder of Hermon. A brother Ralph and his wife Doris Phillips of Bangor, four daughters Christina and her husband Fred Desjardins of Detroit, Jennifer Cookson of Plymouth, Stephanie and her husband Joe Bowden of Illinois, Becky Cookson of Hamilton, Ohio, a son William T. Kenniston III of Newport, twelve grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Carol was predeceased by her father Chester Hudson on December 14, 1980. There will be no visitation hours. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements under the direction of Dan & Scotts Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, Maine 04976. Arnold L. McDonald

NORTH NEWPORT & EXETER - Arnold Lee McDonald, 86, formerly of Route 222, North Newport, died December 5, 2003 at a Dexter Healthcare facility. He was born February 28, 1917, a son of Eugene and Sadie (Scott) McDonald. Arnold was employed as a lumberjack and also had worked at area woolen mills. He was predeceased by his wife Virginia, his brothers Frederick and Linwood, as well as his sisters, Irene Maskell, Albine Godsoe and Lera Gould. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. A spring graveside committal service will be held at Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna, with Dalton Dunphey officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna.

Eloise Ranney Larrabee

PITTSFIELD & CORINNA - Eloise R. Larrabee, 93, widow of Merle L. Larrabee, died December 3, 2003 at a Pittsfield health care facility. She was born June 26, 1910 in Lynn, MA, a daughter of Stephen and Avis (Jones) Ranney. After moving to Corinna at a young age, she attended Corinna schools, including Corinna Union Academy. She graduated from Alberta Business College in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After returning to Corinna, she worked at the Corinna Post Office for 27 years. She also worked at the Snowflake Canning Company in Corinna. She was predeceased by a sister, Marguerite Beattie in 1967. Eloise is survived by a nephew, Robert Beattie and 2 nieces, Gloria McNichol and Joyce Williams, all of Pittsfield. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring at North Newport cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport.

Earl H. Dyer, Jr.

HARTLAND, PALMYRA & BENTON - Earl H. Dyer, Jr., 77, died December 3, 2003 at Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center in Hartland. He was born September 1, 1926 at Palmyra a son of Earl Sr. and Vera (Appleby) Dyer. He attended Hartland and Palmyra schools and was a machinist Foreman at Keyes Fibre Machine Shop, and Mid-State Machine. He then operated his own shop, Standard Machine in Benton, until his retirement. He was a 44 year member of Keystone Lodge, AF & AM, in Bingham. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends; especially his many trips to Moosehead Lake. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Bemis) Dyer of Benton; and a daughter Darlene Scott of Connecticut; 3 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a special grandniece, Patricia Johnston of Pittsfield, who cared for him. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Anne in 1960; and brothers, Vincent, Gilbert, and Merle. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring at Morses Corner cemetery in Corinna. Memorial donations may be made to the Eastern Maine Medical Center Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, c/o Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, ME 04953.

Albert M. Richardson, Sr.

PITTSFIELD - Albert M. Richardson, Sr., 92, died November 30, 2003 at a Pittsfield Hospital. He was born January 1, 1911 at Newport a son of Frank and Thurza (Day) Richardson. He attended North Newport schools and Newport High School, and served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1946. He worked for most of his life at Eastland Woolen Mill, and later, at Guilford Industries, until his retirement. He was a member and past deacon of Deeper Life Assembly in Pittsfield, and was a member of Pittsfield Senior Citizens. On December 24, 1938, he married the former Adeline Vance. On January 19, 2002, she predeceased him. Albert was also predeceased by 5 children. He is survived by 4 sons, Albert, Jr. of Farmington, Indiana, Ernest of Detroit, Philip of Pittsfield, and Amos of St. Albans; 4 daughters, Clyda Taylor of Dover-Foxcroft, Phyllis Smith of Quinlan, Texas, Roberta Owens of Haddam, Connecticut, and Mary Lou White of Haggaum, CT; 36 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren. Friends were called from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services were held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 3rd, with the Reverend Llewellen Sperrey, interim minister of Deeper Life Assembly of Pittsfield, officiating. Burial will be in the North Newport cemetery.

Frank J. Woodworth

Frank J. Woodworth, 76, died April 5, 2004 at the Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility after an extended illness. He was born May 31, 1927, in Evanston, Illinois the son of Luther and Nora Woodworth. Frank served in the Navy in the South Pacific. During his life, he worked as an auto body repairman and had his own business as Woodworth's Auto Hospital for many years before becoming an integral part of Frank Woodworth, Inc. Frank was a registered Maine Guide. He was an avid fisherman, expert fly fisherman, and an avid hunter. He was also active in the Peltoma Fish and Game Club for many years. Frank resided in Detroit for most of his adult life, but he also wintered in Ocala, Florida with his wife. Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Jane (Shorey) Woodworth. He is survived by his son, Frank L. Woodworth and his wife Elaine of Detroit; daughter, Sissi Ayer and her husband William of Detroit; granddaughter, Nicole Woodworth of Detroit and currently of the Boston area while attending Boston University; special friends, Louise Friend of Ocala, Florida and Joe and Greta Cianchette of Detroit; and caregivers Kathy Sinclair and the wonderful people of the Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility. Per Frank's wishes there will be no funeral service. Anyone wishing to, may donate in Frank's name to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1246. Arrangements are under the care of Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.

Francis E. Paul

Exeter & Dixville, NH - Francis E. Paul went to be with our Lord March 27, 2004 at the age of 47. Francis was born January 7, 1957, son of Orissa (Bryant) Paul and Alfred Paul.
He was employed by the Balsms Resort in New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his mother, father and step father Howard Prescott. He is survived by Uncle Ernest Bryant, Brother Eugene Bryant both of Pittsfield; three sisters Lynnette Paul of Orono, Barbara Downing of Exeter, Deborah Prescott of Levant; Aunt Minnie of Corinna; Aunt Phyllis of Florida. 5 Nephews, as well as many friends who loved & knew him. Francis was a Navy Veteran with an honorable discharge. He loved to fish & spend time with his family and friends. Services will be held at a later date. All will be notified.

EDITH M. POULIN

DETROIT - Edith M. Poulin, 73, died March 28, 2004 at her residence following a long illness. She was born May 24, 1930 at Bar Harbor the daughter of Royce and Esther (Sinclair) Garland. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. Edith was very active in town affairs: as charter member of the Detroit Fire Department Auxiliary, tax collector and election clerk. She had worked in her early years as a waitress at the Log Cabin Diner in East Newport; co-owned Poulins General Store in Detroit; and owned Edies Gift Shop. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest J. Poulin, in 1988; a son Daniel in 1971; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne, in 1993; and a brother Royce in 2003. She is survived by her children, David of Detroit, Kathleen Burton and husband Dan of Felton, Delaware, James and wife Connie of Perham, Stephen of Detroit, Jennifer Welch and husband Frank of Dixmont, Susan Leighton and husband Ed of Limestone, Kevin and wife Kelly of Detroit, Royce and wife Tammy of Newport; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a special family friend, Carol McCarron of Detroit. Private visitation will be held on Tuesday. A public funeral service was held at 6 PM on Wednesday, March 31st, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Reverend Dan Burton officiating. Burial will be in the Village cemetery, Detroit, later in the spring. Friends joined the family at the home of Kevin and Kelly Poulin following the service to celebrate Ediths life.

Lyle L. "Mike" Gallison

PALMYRA - Lyle "Mike" Gallison, beloved husband of Beverly, passed away on March 23rd in Bradenton, Florida. He was born in Corinna and spent most of his married life in the Pittsfield and Palmyra area. He worked for Cianbro Corp., for Northeast Shoe Co. and for Dexter Shoe as a hand sewer until his retirement in 1977. Besides his wife of 44 years, he leaves two children, Paula Cyr and husband Tom of Palmyra and son Jeffrey of Augusta, GA. Two very much loved granddaughters, Jennifer Hanson and husband Jon of Palmyra and Jessica Mills and husband Rusty of Pittsfield. Also two adorable great grandchildren, Sydney Hanson and Austin Mills. Several nephews and nieces. A special nephew Jay Cole and wife Marianne of Bradenton, FL. He is predeceased by father Leland, mother Dorothy, sister Mildred Keliher and brother Edgar. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his entire family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart Assoc. or the Kidney Foundation in his name. Graveside services will be held in the spring. Arrangements are being made by Crosby and Neal Funeral Home in Newport.

Wayne E. Hustus

DIXMONT - Wayne E. Hustus, 66, died unexpectedly at his residence March 22, 2004. He was born April 9, 1937 at Pittsfield a son of Chellis and Grace (Sprague) Hustus. Wayne was a past member of the Dixmont Fire Department. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Lions Club, and was a life member of the North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting and camping; especially time spent visiting with friends old and new around a roaring campfire. He also collected model cars. He retired in 1997 from Ryder Rental Company of Portland as a mechanic. He was currently employed part time by Motor Supply Company in Newport. He is survived by his wife, Clarice (Sylvester) Hustus of Dixmont; a daughter, Nancy Armstrong and husband Gary of Pittsfield; 5 step-children, Linda Holmes and husband William of Belfast, Sharon Corson and husband Gordon of Winslow, Mark Emery and wife JoAnne of North Windham, Timothy Emery and friend Connie Wilson of Hosford, Florida; 4 sisters, Flora Hustus of Belfast, Christine Ridley of Brooks, Gloria Brown and husband Clayton of Stetson, and Stella Smith of Pittsfield; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Bruce Harris of Dixmont. He was predeceased by a step-daughter Peggy (Emery) Harris. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Spring interment will be in Highland cemetery, Carmel. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Lions Club, co Mr. Percy King, P.O. Box 203, Searsport, ME 04974.

Arthur Q. Bailey

PARKMAN - Arthur Q. Bailey, 74, died suddenly, March 11, 2004, at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was born July 15, 1929, in Parkman, son of Ernest and Nina (Thurston) Bailey. He served in the US Army and worked for most of his life in road construction. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cambridge and the Parkman Grange. He enjoyed flying and restoring antique equipment.
He is survived by a daughter and her husband Cathy and David Elderkin of Parkman; 2 brothers, Jim Bailey of Carmel and Stub Bailey of Cambridge; 2 sisters, Dot Mountain of Dexter and Joyce Kimball of Cambridge; 3 grandchildren, Seth and his wife Tricia Elderkin of Parkman, Stacie and her husband, Peter Knight of Guilford and Shannon Elderkin of Parkman; 2 great grandsons, Bailey and Austin Elderkin both of Parkman; several nieces and nephews, including 3 special nieces, Ann and her husband, Geno Murray, Judy and her husband, Kirby Turner all of Greenville and Laurie Lee and Alan Haggan of Fairfield; sister-in-law, Charlene Casey of Greenville and brother-in-law, Henry Morrill of Bingham; his mother-in-law, Livonia Andrews of Greenville. He was predeceased by his wife, Boneta (Morrill) Bailey, a son, Arthur Jr.; 3 brothers, Ernest, Dana and Howard. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Cambridge. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society, One Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, Maine 04086-1240. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

Mabel C. Dysart

PITTSFIELD - Mrs. Mabel C. Dysart died peacefully in her home at 8 Easy Street, Pittsfield, Maine on Sunday morning, February 15, 2004, in the arms of her husband, Lawrence. Mabel was born in Skowhegan in 1912, daughter of Maurice and Mary (Burbee) Clough. She was a 1930 Skowhegan High graduate and attended Colby College. She married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence, in 1931. At the time of her death, they had been married nearly 73 years. In 1935, the couple moved to Pittsfield where they established L.A. Dysarts 5 & 10 Cent Store. The business grew to be a thriving department store until they retired in 1974. Her specialty dress shop was efficiently run and profitable. Mabel once remarked, We have no customers, only friends.
She was a loyal member of the Tuesday club, the St. Agnes guild, and an accomplished pianist and organist at the St. Agnes church. She also raised a wonderful family. Her two daughters, son, 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild were very devoted to her for her love and many sacrifices over the years. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Quint, and her husband, Marty, of Pittsfield, a son, Lawrence Dysart and his wife Mary Lou of North Reading, Massachusetts and a son-in-law, Lucien Veilleux of Waterville. She is pre-deceased by her daughter, Nancy Veilleux. Her funeral was at St. Agnes Church, Pittsfield, Saturday, February 21, 2004.
