Douglas E. Emery

HARTLAND ME, MELBOURNE, FL - Douglas E. Emery, Lt. Col., U.S. Army, retired, 66, died Sunday, February 15, 2004. A memorial service, with Army honors, was held Friday, February 27, 2004 at the Chapel Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne, Florida. Born in Hartland, Maine, the son of Doris and Floyd Emery, Doug moved to Florida in 1984 following his retirement from the Army after over 25 years of service. An infantry officer, he received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam. He loved to read, enjoyed his family and friends and had a special knack for remembering birthdays and other special dates. His family includes his wife, Hella Emery; sons, Brian Emery and his wife Kathleen and Baron Emery and his wife, Natalie; five grandchildren and a brother, Philip Emery of St. Albans, Maine. He is also survived by aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and nephews; two great-great nephews and many cousins.

Andrew A. Bouley, Sr.

ST. ALBANS - Andrew A. Bouley, Sr., 71, died February 17, 2004 at his residence.
He was born February 8, 1933, in Sangerville, the son of Ferdinand and Isabelle (Clukey) Bouley. He served his country in the Marines during the Korean War. After the war he lived and worked in Greenville. While in Greenville, he worked at Jamieson's Market in the store and also as a taxi driver. In the early 1970s he moved to St. Albans. He worked at the Irving Tannery Company and also as a dairy farmer. In the mid 1990s he retired. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his 5 children; daughter, Gail Cropley and husband David of Plymouth; son, Andrew Bouley, Jr. of Clifton; son, Fred Bouley and wife Cheryl of Greenville; son, Robert Bouley of St. Albans; daughter, Kathy Bane and husband Bill of St. Albans; 11 grandchildren, Lisa, Maria, Michael, Amanda, Jillian, Robbie, Nicholas, Laurin, Stephanie, Shannon, and Julie; 6 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Dylan, Connor, Colton, and Ashlyn; brother, Warren Bouley of Greenville; sister, Delia Ponkala of Union, CT; and daughter-in-law, Pam Robbins of Palmyra. He was predeacesed by his parents and brother, Gordon Bouley. Service was held Saturday, February 21st, 2004. Burial will take place in the spring at the Greenville cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Andrew's memory to the VA Hospital-Togus c/o Volunteer Services, 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330-6795. Arrangements are under the care of Donald Shorey Funeral Chapel, Pittsfield.

Martha (Lawrence) Hatfield

CORINNA & PALM HARBOR, FL - Martha Hatfield, 90, died February 17, 2004 at a Clearwater, Florida Hospital. She was born September 18, 1913 at Westerly, Rhode Island, the daughter of Clifford and Lillian (Young) Lawrence. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy and attended the University of Maine at Farmington. For 30 years, Martha was the school lunch director and coordinator for SAD #48. She also taught adult education for the school district and at Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. She was the secretary for the State of Maine American School Food Service for two years. She was a member, former Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and church clerk of the Morses Corner Baptist Church in Corinna. She is survived by a brother Marvin Lawrence of Lebanon; a daughter-in-law, Jean Hatfield of Clearwater, FL; a granddaughter with whom she resided, Tammy Hatfield of Palm Harbor, FL; and a grandson, Brian Hatfield, also of Palm Harbor, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Hubert on July 4, 1997, and a son, Clayton on July 26, 1980. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, February 23rd, at the Morses Corner Baptist Church, Exeter Road, Corinna, with the Reverend Chris Faloon officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Morses Corner Baptist Church, c/o Mr. Ray Blaisdell, Treasurer, 179 Greenbush Road, Corinna, Maine 04928.

Donna Leavitt Winton

PITTSFIELD & FALMOUTH, ME; PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL - Donna Leavitt Furman Winton, of Falmouth, ME and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, at rest on February 9, 2004. Born October 6, 1924 in Plymouth, ME, she was the oldest of seven children of Cyril B. and Gladys V. Leavitt. Donna graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, ME in 1940, lived in Pittsfield in the early 1960s and again from 1993 to 2001, when she moved to Falmouth. In addition to her husband of 27 years, Glendon A. Winton, she leaves her children, Ross Y. (Jennifer) Furman of Falmouth, R. Bruce (Mildred) Furman of Lake City, FL, Joyce (Nehlsen) Lachmund of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Dean (Alison) Furman of Miami, FL, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five sisters, one brother and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, many friends, especially her dear friend of nearly 60 years, Inie Segin of Eastport. A strong and courageous woman, Donnas valiant fight with cancer and her spirited determination to live life to its fullest will forever remain an inspiration to family and friends who loved and admired her. Interment services will be held at a later date in Pittsfield. Donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers preferred by the family.

Dana H. Luce

DEXTER - Dana H. Luce, 86, died peacefully Sunday, February 1, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born April 1, 1918 in Sangerville, the son of Herbert and Mabel Luce. He was educated in Dexter schools and graduated from N. H. Fay High School in 1936. On June 6, 1941 he married Shirley Fickett.
Dana retired from his own business of Dexter Flooring in 1980. He was a World War II veteran having served in England, Ireland, and in the African Invasion. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion and a 62 year member of the Penobscot Lodge #39. He was also a 50 year member of the Kora Temple Shrine. He received the Cross of Colors from the Rainbow Girls for his volunteer work in that organization. He was a member of the Dexter Fire Department. He attended the Dexter United Methodist Church, and as a younger man he helped with Youth Groups, church committees and other projects.
Danas home and family were of utmost importance to him. He and his wife Shirley enjoyed their life together, most especially with gardening, yard work and many, many cribbage games. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by a daughter, Gail Madsen of Medfield, MA, three grandchildren, Michael Madsen and his wife, Sally, of Denville, NJ, Thomas Madsen and his wife, Donna, of N. Augusta, SC, and Teri Madsen of Stratford, CN, three great-grandchildren, Alex, Matthew and Caroline Madsen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 2 p.m. at the Dexter United Methodist Church, 59 Main Street, Dexter, with Pastor Lois Field officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dexter United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 655, Dexter, Maine 04930. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

Donald Gould

CORINNA - Donald Gould, 87, died January 31, 2004 at his Corinna residence. He was born May 27, 1916 at Wellington a son of Leon and Celia (Small) Gould. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1937. During World War II, he was employed by Burnis Nelson as a dairy and potato farmer. He weaved for a number of years at Guilford and Dexter woolen mills, and retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Manufacturers of East Hartford, Connecticut, May 27, 1981. He was a member of the First Free Baptist Church of Dexter, the First Baptist Church of Dade City, Florida, and the Pleasant Street Christian Church of Corinna. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, a daughter, Elaine Greenlaw, both of Corinna, and a daughter Nancy Morin of East Hartford, CT; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 3 nephews. He was predeceased by a son Gary, and two brothers, Linwood and Lyonel. Friends called from 6-8 PM Monday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. Funeral services were held 3 PM Tuesday, February 3rd, at Pleasant Street Christian Church, with the Reverend Edward Jaworski officiating. Spring burial will be in Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna. Donations may be made in Donalds memory to the Pleasant Street Christian Church, 29 St. Albans Road, Corinna, ME 04928.

Raymond K. Ferris, Sr.

DETROIT - Raymond K. Ferris Sr., 69, of Detroit, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital, Togus, Maine. He was born in Guilford, Maine on January 19, 1934 the son of Kenneth R. and Lillian (Gray) Ferris. Raymond proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He liked to hunt and fish, and enjoyed telling fish stories. He worked for Keyes Fibre from the 1960's to the 1990's. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother Donald Ferris. Raymond is survived by his wife of 49 years Beverly (Brann) Ferris of Detroit; his children: Raymond Ferris Jr. and his wife Fani of Pittsfield; Brenda Keniston of Freeport; Patricia Johnson and her husband Mark of Pittsfield; Melanie McGowan and her husband Jeffery of Pittsfield; and Cindy Ferris and her significant other Laurence Morang of Detroit; three sisters: Betty Randall and her husband Don of Bangor; Joyce Day and her husband Lew of Dexter; and Hazel Maxwell and her husband Ed of Levant, Maine; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service in the spring at the Detroit cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to the Veterans Hospital, V.A. Voluntary Service, 1 VA Center, Togus, Maine 04330. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave, Belfast, Maine.

John E. Hurlburt

NEWPORT AND LAKE WALES FLORIDA - John E. Hurlburt, 91, died May 28, 2004 at a Lake Wales Florida health care facility following a brief illness. He was born in Sherman Mills June 2, 1912 the son of Lyman and Etta (Humphrey) Hurlburt. He was educated in Sherman schools. John married Alice Ludden on July 29, 1933. For over 25 years John was employed as a machinist at Faye Scott Industries in Dexter. For several years John and Alice have spent their winters in Lake Wales and their summers at their camp in Sangerville. John served in the Army National Guard in Newport for three years. He and Alice were long time members of the Lords and Ladies Square Dance Club and danced at many places throughout the state. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Alice L. Hurlburt of Newport and Lake Wales, two sons, Vaughn Hurlburt of Hampton VA., Dennis Hurlburt of Danville Calif., three daughters, Beulah Hanson of Eliot, Charlene Burbury of Whitinsville Mass., Janice Moores of Newport, one brother George Hurlburt of Farmington, one sister Rena Fernald of Lake Wales, 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His son John Gailen Hurlburt predeceased him in 1990. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Monday June 7, 2004 at the Brown Funeral Home 34 High Street Newport with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Frances Dutill, 94, Pittsfield, ME passed away March 7, 2004. A graveside Committal Service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 1:00 PM at the cemetery in Pittsfield.

Vivienne D. (Carle) Fanjoy, 89, Dexter, ME and Brooksville, FL passed away January 25, 2004 at Brooksville, FL. A graveside Committal Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 5 at Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Dexter.

Frederick Morrison Curtis

PALMYRA AND BANGOR - Frederick Morrison Curtis, 56, died May 9, 2004. He was born October 21, 1947 in Dover-Foxcroft. Son of Doug Ellis and Beverly (Curtis) Lunt. He lived in Palmyra area for 38 years and Bangor 14 years. He is survived by a brother Robert and wife Gloria Lunt of Palmyra; a aunt Edwiner (Curtis) Lovely of Burnham; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held at Pine Grove cemetery in Hartland on June 5, 2004 at 3:00 PM. Rev. Ronald Parker officiating.

Gertrude Jeanette Heuseveldt

STETSON - Gertrude Jeanette (Schuring) Heuseveldt, 89, died February 10, 2004 at the Dexter Health Care Facility. The family thanks the staff for their loving care. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Reita (Alan) Klein and grandchildren, Seth and Anna Klein. Friends are invited to the graveside service Friday, May 14, 1 PM, Clark's Hill Cemetary, Stetson.

EUGENE G. IRISH

A Celebration of Life will be held for Eugene G. Irish, of Pittsfield, on Friday, May 14, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. at the Vickery School in Pittsfield, ME. Eugene passed away on March 24, 2004. Also on Saturday, May 15, at 10:00 a.m. there will be a graveside service at the Evergreen cemetery on the Hill Road in Clinton, ME.

Committal services for Alice L. Call and George Call Sr. will be conducted at 6:30 PM May 11, 2004 at the family lot Rogers cemetery in Troy. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home Newport.

Margaret L. Gallison

CORINNA - Margaret L. Gallison, 73, died April 18, 2004 at a Dexter health care facility. She was born December 9, 1930 at Bath the daughter of Jesse and Amy (Douglas) Sanders. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Newport where she taught Awana with her dear friend, Judy Paige; who predeceased her January 13, 2004. Margaret is survived by her children, Rebecca and husband Bradford Snyder of Ohio, Terry and wife Karen Gallison of Newport and James Gallison of NY; 7 grandchildren, Ronald and wife Karen Snyder, Richard Snyder, Stephanie (Snyder) and husband Byran Mahoney, all of Ohio, William and wife Melissa Gallison of Newport, Mark Gallison of CT, Chadwick Gallison of CA and Nicholas Gallison of NY; 7 great grandchildren, Jocelyn Snyder, Marissa Snyder, James Mahoney, Cami Mahoney, Christopher Mahoney all of Ohio, Zachary Gallison and Jonathan Gallison both of Newport. She was predeceased by her husband George “Sonny” Gallison in August of 1987. Friends called from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, April 20th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, where funeral services were be held at 1 PM on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Eugene G. Irish

PITTSFIELD - Eugene G. Irish, 62, of Pittsfield passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004, peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 19, 1941 in Clinton, the son of Glenburn and Seenna (Lombard) Irish. Gene was raised in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1959. He then entered the Navy and served for three years. He worked at Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut as a machinist until he relocated to Maine and married Colleen Fairbrother Sherwood in 1976. He retired in 2002 from Huhtamaki in Waterville, after 26 years of service. Gene was a past member of the Pittsfield Driftbusters Snowmobile Club and Trout’s Unlimited. He was a member of the PACE Local 449, Good Sam Club and an active member, as well as, past President of Central Maine Squares. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. He took several trips to the Allagash and Great Lakes areas. Gene was an talented bowler who won many awards. He took great pleasure on weekends that combined camping and square dancing. Gene took great pride in the appearance of his vehicles and a 20 foot cedar canoe he had built. He liked to garden and raised gladiolas. He also raised chickens, turkeys, pigs and beef. Gene was an avid cribbage player, maintaining this reputation even through his illness by winning a tournament last fall. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Colleen Irish, of Pittsfield; his mother, Seenna Irish, of Clinton; two sons, Eugene Irish Jr. and wife Angie, of Meriden, Conn., and Eric Sherwood, of Pittsfield; three daughters, Glendia Arrigoni and husband, Peter, of Meriden, Conn., Elaine Woodworth and husband Frank, of Detroit, and Terry White and husband Gregory, of Pittsfield; two brothers, Herbert Irish of Benton and Lewis Irish and wife Flossie, of Burnham; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and special friends of the C.L.I.C. and many others. He was predeceased by his father, Glenburn Irish; and an infant brother, Sonny Irish. At this time there will be no service. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 1 Main St., Suite 3000, Topsham, ME 04086-1246, or HealthReach Hospice, P.O. Box 829, Waterville, ME 04903-1568. Arrangements are under the care of Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
