Crosby A. Eaton "Cobby"

CORINNA - Crosby “Cobby” Anson Eaton, 90, died October 10th, 2004 at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born November 24, 1913 at Exeter, a son of Howard and Melvina (Rafter) Eaton. He was a long-time resident of Corinna and was employed at the Eastland Woolen Mill for many years, retiring in 1976. Together with his wife, Lilla, he enjoyed traveling and spent several winters in Zephyrhills, FL. Cobby enjoyed getting together with family at his Center Pond camp in Sangerville, and especially looked forward to taking his grandchildren fishing. He often mentioned to his family and friends how much he liked the quiet time at camp listening to the rain on the roof and fishing for white perch. He also looked forward to hunting and fishing trips to the Chesuncook area and Moosehead Lake with his buddies. He attended Morse’s Corner Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lilla (Bragg) Eaton of Corinna; a son, Kenneth Eaton of Leesburg, FL; 2 daughters and their husbands, Loraine and Carl Palmer of Exeter, Maxine and Jay Wheeler of Mt. Ida, AR; 8 grandchildren, Reginald and wife Sharon Palmer, Rick Palmer and fiancé, Susan Spear, DeAnna and husband Peter Hartel, Susan Eaton, Wendi and husband Johnny Gwinn, Bonnie Martin, Brenda and husband Gary Crane, Jason and wife Alicia Wheeler; 11 great grandchildren, Marci and husband Devon, Ross, Luke, Ashley P., Ashley M., Lauren, Jenna, Kayla, Tracy, Corban, and Bradley. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 16th at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, with Pastor Stan Griffin and Pastor Clarence Arno officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 AM until the time of services. Burial will be in Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna. A luncheon buffet and time of fellowhip will be held at the Cornerstone Baptist Church following the committal service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Morses Corner Baptist Church, c/o Mr. Ray Blaisdell, Treasurer, 179 Greenbush Road, Corinna, ME 04928. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna.

Richard G. Penney

PITTSFIELD & NEWPORT - Richard George Penney, 70, died unexpectedly at his residence. He was born September 3, 1934 at Pittsfield a son of Howard and Elsie (Oakes) Penney. He was employed at Newport Shoe, Dexter Shoe, and then managed Lovley’s Motel for many years. Dick is survived by 2 sons, David Penney of St. Albans, Dale and wife Kristen Penney of Pittsfield; a daughter, Diane Barrett of Lewiston; a sister, Madeline Stanley of Dexter; his former wife of 44 years, Carolyn (Dunphy) Penney of Newport; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Verna Pease and Bruce Bickford. Dick was also predeceased by a brother, Ralph. Friends called from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, April 5th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. Private burial will be in the family lot, Pittsfield Village cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

David F. Clukey

CORINNA - David F. Clukey, 71, died unexpectedly March 25, 2005 at his home. He was born July 29, 1933 at Dexter a son of Thomas and Mildred (Ganeau) Clukey. He married the former Sylvia Robichaud on January 3, 1953. David retired in 1996 from Eastland Woolen Mill after 52 years of employment. He was a member of the Corundel Raiders Snowmobile Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Steven and wife Denise Clukey, all of Corinna; 2 daughters, Sally and husband Perle Ettinger of Pittsfield, Mary Ann and Paul Richardson of Hampden; 2 brothers Gerald “Jay” Clukey of Sangerville, and Carroll Clukey of Orono; 5 sisters, Regina Webb of Hartland, Dorilda Worster of Corinth, Shirley and husband Donald Worster of Corinna, Gloria and husband Alton Cross of Dexter, Barbara and husband Paul Cook of Bangor; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Friends called from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 28th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. Spring burial will be in Corinna Center cemetery.

Michael Raymond Roussin

NEWPORT - Michael Raymond Roussin, 50, died March 26, 2005 at a Pittsfield hospital following a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born June 18, 1954 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a son of Raymond and Evelyn (Thompson) Roussin. He graduated from Nokomis Regional High, Class of 1973, and received an Associate Degree from Bangor Community College. Mike was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Newport, and was a lieutenant and dedicated member of the Newport Fire Department since June 1973. He will also be remembered as an avid hunter and for his active service with the Boy Scouts. He had been employed at Gilman Electric and most recently, Paris Farmers Union in Newport, retiring due to failing health. In addition to his mother, Evelyn Roussin, he is survived by a brother Timothy and wife Patricia Roussin, all of Newport; a sister Gail Roussin of Lyman; a former sister-in-law, Luane Roussin; aunts June Thompson of Auburn, Margie Barcus of Florida, and Pixie Roussin of South Carolina; several cousins; nieces and nephews, Alicia, Robert, Justin, Julia, and Benjamin; great nieces Alexis and Shaelyn; his dog Jewells; and special friends Frank Schoenthaler, Elizabeth Jones, Rick Turner and Greg Buckland. Friends called from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services with full fire department honors was held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 30th, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove Street, Newport, with Pastor George Finnemore officiating. Burial will follow at the family lot, Riverside cemetery, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to the Newport Fire Department Fire and Rescue Fund, 27 Water Street, Newport, ME 04953.

Alan Connery

Alan Connery, 74, of Palmyra passed away on March 24, 2005 at his residence in Palmyra, ME. He was born on October 28, 1930 in Bayside, New York, the son of Francis R. Connery and Mabel (Tragesser) Connery. He attended and graduated from Bayside High School in Bayside, Queens, NY. He married the former Pat Keleher on May 1, 1954 in Flushing, NY. He worked in the banking industry for 35 years until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield; he was on the finance committee, past chairperson of the Parish Council; Eucharistic Minister; part-time Sacristan, and member of the Knights of Columbus. Alan is survived by his wife Pat of 50 years, five daughters, Mary-Jo of California, Jeanne of New Jersey, Kathleen of Newport, ME, Ellen of Hartland, ME, Eileen Sbarra and her husband Michael of New York, four grandchildren, Paul, Jessica, Richard and Joseph. Visitation was held on Monday, March 28, 2005 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, ME and a mass of Christian burial was on Tuesday, March 29th, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 50 Detroit Ave, Pittsfield, ME. Donations may be made in Alan’s memory to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 50 Detroit Ave., Pittsfield, ME 04967.

Mavis R. Hughes

EXETER - Mavis R. Hughes, 83, died March 28, 2005 at a Dexter health care facility. She was born October 22, 1921 at Houlton, the daughter of Herman and Violet (Petchey) Small. She graduated from Exeter High School and attended Zion Bible Institute in E. Providence, RI. Mavis taught school in Dexter, Exeter, Garland and the Charleston Christian Academy. She was an excellent seamstress, Sunday School and Bible teacher and taught many classes at several area churches. She was a member of the Exeter Full Gospel Church and will be sadly missed by her family. Mavis is survived by her husband, Harold Hughes of Exeter; 2 daughters and their husbands, the Rev. Merlene Spurrell and the Rev. David Spurrell of Verona, Ontario; the Rev. Meredith Giles and the Rev. Stephen Giles of Albany, NY; a daughter-in-law, Linda Bowden of MD; 4 step-children, Stephen Hughes of Carmel, Anthony Hughes of Skowhegan, Elois Gagliardo of Newport and Susan Bruce of MD; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Merle Fickett in 1960, her second husband, Herbert Bragg in 1986 and a son, the Rev. Paul Fickett in 1989. Friends called from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, March 31st, at the Exeter Full Gospel Church, Exeter, where a celebration of Mavis’ life was held at 11 AM on Friday with her family and the Rev. Chris Faloon officiating. Spring burial will be in the Morse’s Corner cemetery, Corinna. Memorial donations may be made to the Exeter Full Gospel Church, P.O. Box 24, Exeter, ME 04435. Paul J. Cyr

DEXTER - Paul Joseph Cyr, 52, died March 11, 2005 at a Bangor hospital following a brief illness. He was born August 9, 1952 at Dexter a son of Eloi and Rose (Martinelli) Cyr. He was a graduate of Nokomis Regional High and was a self-employed carpenter. Paul was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a past member of the Dexter Jaycees and also enjoyed motorcycling with his friends. He is survived by two daughters, Angela Cyr of Weymouth, MA and Ashley Cyr of Dexter; 2 sisters, Frances and husband Milton Kirk of Pittsfield, Lea and husband Keith Worster of Dexter; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his step-brother Reginald Cyr, and a daughter Amanda Cyr. Funeral services were held at 3 PM on Monday, March 14th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter, with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Morency officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 PM until the time of the services. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Dexter.

Wendell E. Johnson

DEXTER - Wendell “Joe” Johnson, 85, died March 11, 2005 at his residence. He was born August 22, 1919 at Dexter the son of Harry and Ruth (Fernald) Johnson. Joe was a dairy farmer all his life and was a member of the Farm Bureau. He is survived by 3 sisters, Phyllis Miles of Northboro, MA, Pauline Johnson of Dexter, Jane and husband Richard Easley of Sebastian, FL and Manchester, CT; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. A spring graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Dexter. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

William Weston Nutter

PALMYRA - William Weston Nutter, 84, passed away on February 26, 2005 at his home in Palmyra following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 25, 1920 in St. Albans, the son of the late Linwood and Victoria (Sinclair) Nutter of St. Albans. He attended St. Albans and Corinna schools. On August 26, 1939 he married the former Norma Emery in Corinna who survives him. He was a veteran of WWII he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Flag ship U.S.S. Columbus in the Pacific Theater. He was employed at Irving Tannery in Hartland as a Buffer Machine Operator for 22 years he retired in 1985. He was a member of the Steeves & McCormack Post 141 American Legion in Hartland. William was a holder of the Cole Transportation Museum WWII Veterans Walking Stick having marched in Eight Veteran’s Parades in Bangor. He was an avid gardener, he spent many hours gardening and caring for his yard. He enjoyed going to the family camp on Great Moose Pond in Hartland and spending time with the family members. Besides his wife of 65 years Norma of Palmyra, he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Cross of Nashua, N.H., a nephew, Darrell Brooks of San Bernardino, CA., a sister in-law, Hilda Nutter of Hartland, Brothers in-law, Harlan Emery and his wife Ina and Clyde Emery and his wife Jeanette all of Hartland, a special nieces and nephews all of whom were devoted to the “Papa” and several cousins. William was predeceased by a sister, Mrya Brooks of San Bernardino, CA in 2004. There will be no visitation. A burial will take place in the spring at the Palmyra Village cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, Maine 04967. Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Helene W. Lawler

DIXMONT - Helene W. Lawler 78 died unexpectedly Feb. 27, 2005 at her Dixmont residence following a period of declining health. She was born in Woodland, ME September 14, 1926 the daughter of James A. and Dorcus M. (Perkins) Poole. She was educated in schools throughout eastern Maine, some years moving twice and attending two different schools. She married Norman D. Lawler Sr. in Palmyra Nov. 28, 1942 he predeceased her on Oct. 18, 1981 following almost 39 years of marriage. She was a homemaker for her large family and worked every day on the family farm with her husband and family. Helene loved her family and spent most of her time with them. She enjoyed camping and did some volunteered work at Meals for Me in Newport. She is survived by 5 sons; Norman and his wife Kathie Lawler Jr., Roger Lawler, Paul and his wife Darlene Lawler, Richard and his wife Carlene Lawler Sr., Tommy and his wife Tina Lawler all of Dixmont, three daughters and their husbands; Linda and Donald Williams of Dixmont, Connie and Byron Curtis of Dixmont, Patsy and Jim Husson of Hampden, a granddaughter that Helene raised Lori and Shane Barker of Pittsfield, one sister Elizabeth White of Turner and Zephyrhills, FL, 26 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and two brothers James and Wendell. A private family gathering will be held this week at the Brown Funeral Home in Newport. Public graveside services will be conducted in the spring at the family lot in the Sawyer cemetery in Plymouth. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home Newport. Sandra A. Dickinson

PITTSFIELD - Sandra A. Dickinson, 55, passed away on February 28, 2005 in Portland at Maine Medical Center. She was born on June 19, 1949 in Augusta, the daughter of Patrick and Yvonne (Crowell) O‚Connor.
She loved to cook, knit, crochet and being with her church friends for bible study and other activities.
She is survived by one son, Shawn and his wife Lisa of Pittsfield, three step-grandchildren, two brothers, Michael O‚Connor and his wife Paula of Pittsfield, Timothy O‚Conner and his wife Beth of Winthrop, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Sr. who died in 1968 and her son Charles Jr. who died in 2003, her brother Daniel O‚Connor who died in 2000, her father who died in 1995 and her mother who died in 2000.
Visitation was held on March 04, 2005 at Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, Maine 04967. A funeral service was held at First Baptist Church, South Main St., Pittsfield on March 05, 2005.

Bessie L. Flagg

DEXTER - Bessie L. Flagg, 86, died February 21, 2005, at a Dover-Foxcroft Hospital. She was born February 26, 1918, in Garland, a daughter of Harold and Eva (Grinnell) Packard. She worked for several years for Snow Flake Canning and later for Dexter Shoe until her retirement. Bessie was also a volunteer at the Dexter Health Care Facility. She was a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Bessie spent a lot of time helping with the Church Fairs, the Thrift Shop and the Food Cupboard. She is survived by a son, Henry Flagg and his wife, Carol of Sangerville; a daughter, Helen VanDendurgh and her husband, Edward of Corinna; a sister, June Warren of Massachusetts; a brother, Harold Packard and his wife, Gerry of Massachusetts, and five grandchildren, Sanger Davis Jr and his friend Kathy, Randy Davis and his wife Debbie, Daniel Davis and his wife, Lisa, Scott Flagg and his wife, Barbara, Shannon Flagg Spaulding and her husband, Darrell; nine great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wyman D. Flagg and a brother, Albert Packard. A memorial service was held at 3:30 PM, Thursday, February 24, 2005 at the Dexter United Methodist Church with Pastor Lois Field officiating. Spring burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Garland. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to the Dexter United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 655, Dexter, ME 04930. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home in Dexter.

Susan M. MacDonald

CORINNA - Susan M. MacDonald, 75, died February 20, 2005 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born January 29, 1930, in Coleman, PEI, Canada, daughter of Frank and Josephine (Gallant) Arsenault. She was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter. She worked for 32 years for Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, retiring in 1992. She is survived by a son and his wife, Michael and Judy MacDonald of Dover, Delaware; three daughters and their husbands, Frances and Bill Henderson of Seabrook, New Hampshire, Carol and Skip Otis, and Julie and Kempton Bradbury all of Corinna; three brothers, Agno Arsenault of Haverlock, New Brunswick, Elmer Arsenault of Coleman, PEI and Eric Arsenault of Summerside, PEI; three sisters, Elizabeth McNeil of Toronto, Ontario, Majorie Lynch of Portage, PEI and Paula Cooke of O'Leary, PEI; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gene MacDonald in 1996, and a brother, Vincent Arsenault in 1997. Friends called from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, February 24, 2005, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road in Corinna. A Mass of Christian Burial was be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday, February 25, 2005, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Morency officiating. Spring burial will be in the Corinna Center cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to Eastern Maine Charities, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, ME 04402-0404.

Mildred A. Newcomb

CORINNA - Mildred A. Newcomb, 73, died February 11, 2005 at a Waterville hospital. She was born June 4, 1931 a daughter of Joseph and Florence (Hardy) Allard. She was a mother and a homemaker and spent several years working in area potato harvesting. She is survived by a son, Harold “Bub” J. Newcomb and a daughter Linda Carmichael, both of St. Albans; a brother, Philip Allard of Hermon; a sister Edna Jeanette Tourville of Conway, NH; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jo-Ann Knowlton and a brother, Ernest Allard. Services will be private. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna.

Phyllis E. Collins

PALMYRA & UNITY - Phyllis E. Collins, 76, died February 11, 2005 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born December 20, 1928 at Saugus, Mass. a daughter of Frederick and Edith (Coates) Pendergrace. She worked for many years as a department store sales clerk. Phyllis is survived by 3 sons, Russell Cahill of Palmyra, Judson McCarthy of Texas, and Christopher McCarthy of Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 7 nieces and 2 nephews. A spring graveside committal service will be held at the family lot, Palmyra Village cemetery, with the Reverend Ronald Parker officiating. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport.

Rev. Harry Daane Vanderbilt

CLEARWATER, FL - Rev. Harry D. Vanderbilt went to be with his Lord and Saviour December 12, 2004 in a Clearwater, Florida hospital. He was born August 2, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois and had lived most of his life there. He was an ordained minister of the Dutch Reformed Church of America. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen Davis, formerly of Dexter, ME, a graduate of NH Fay High School class of 1948. Also four daughters Joyce Jaglinski, Ruth DeYoung, Esther Lorenz all of Chicago, and Natalie Poland of NH. Nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held December 16, 2004 at the Community Reformed Church of Clearwater, FL. Burial was in Oostburg, WI.

B. Gloria Foster “Sis”

PITTSFIELD - Gloria Foster affectionately called Sis by family and friends - our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2005 at Mid-Maine Medical Center in Waterville with family by her side. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer. Sis was born December 15th, 1929 in Pittsfield, ME, the daughter of Robert and Nellie Foster who predeceased her. She attended Pittsfield schools and worked several years at Edwards, Co. in Pittsfield, Dexter Shoe Company in Dexter and the Osteopathic Hospital in Waterville. She is survived by four sons; N. Mike Ouellette Jr. and his wife Carol of Pittsfield, Gary D. Ouellette of Bangor, Arthur Ouellette and wife Susan of Pittsfield, Kenneth A. M. Ouellette of North Conway, NH, two sisters; Kathleen Durost of Hampton Beach, NH and Cheryl DuPlessis of Greenville, ME. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The 9th great-grandson Gabriele Nelson Oullette was born January 18th, 2005 in Italy. Sis was an avid Beano player and would drive many miles to join friends for a game. She had a great passion for the outdoors, birds and wildlife. She also traveled through out the United States over the last 35 years. She was a super cook and loved working around her home. Spring interment and Christian grave site service will be held in the spring. Details to be announced at a later date. In liew of flowers, donation may be made to Comfort Care Program at Maine General Medical Center, 149 North Street, Waterville, ME 04901.
