Madelaine A. Robichaud

NEWPORT - Madelaine A. Robichaud, 62, died December 23, 2004 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was born in Milo June 19, 1942 a daughter of Owen and Jeanne (Girard) Chase. She graduated from Brownville Junction High School and attended Husson College. Madelaine is survived by a daughter, Michele, of Braintree, Massachusetts, and a son, Michael, of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandsons, Chase of Braintree, Massachusetts and Ian of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Marilyn Crumbacker of Morehead City, North Carolina, and Maureen Paynter of Arlington, Massachusetts; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, on September 10, 1999 as well as her brothers Melvin and Malcolm. Friends called from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Wednesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services were held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 30th, with the Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Iheaka of St. Agnes Parish officiating. Spring burial will be in the Riverside cemetery, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401.

Elizabeth J. Maloney

CORINNA - Elizabeth J. Maloney, 42, died December 17, 2004 at a Bangor hospital. She was born August 24, 1962 at Nashua, NH, a daughter of Robert and Edna (Murray) West. She graduated from Dexter High School and received an Associate’s Degree with honors from KVTC in 1999. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In addition to her father of Corinna, Liz is survived by her grandmother, Marjorie West of Newport; 3 brothers, David West of Corinna, James West of NH and Joseph West of TX; a sister, Edna Mae West of Bangor; 2 aunts, Judith Gould of Dexter and Prudence LaRouche of Newport; a special cousin, Kristen Dziegiel and children, J-J and Tristen, of NH; also a cousin, Sean and wife Selena Fogg and their children, Stormy, Seyara and Shayna, all of Dexter. Liz will also be sadly missed by her faithful dogs, Lexi Mae and Murray Maynard. She will be missed by everyone whose heart she touched. A memorial service will be held after the holidays. Graveside committal services will be held at Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Dexter. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna.

Larry J. Dube

DEXTER - Larry J. Dube, 87, died December 21, 2004, at a Dexter health care facility. He was born July 27, 1917, in St. Eusebe Temiscouata, Canada, son of Felix and Ida (Polvin) Dube. He worked for many years for several of the local textile mills. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his first wife of 54 years, Mildred (Packard) Dube in 2000. He is survived by his second wife, Nina Field of Dexter; his children Donald and his wife, Edna Bridge, of N. Berwick; Betty and her husband, Daniel Tarr, of Parkman; Bernice Trefethen of Bethel; and daughter-in-law, Anita Bridge, of Parkman; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lucien Dube, and Jake Dube and his wife, Irene, all of Dexter; a sister, Jeanette Holgerson of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Randall Bridge and Perry Bridge; brothers, Gilbert and Bill Sleight; and three great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Pingree Center cemetery in Parkman. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

Carol Anne Cassatt

Carol Anne Cassatt, 66, died December 10, 2004 at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. She was born, August 19, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Harry Frederick and Martha (Manthey) Glaum. Carol was very active in PEO in Bangor. She was the first woman to be Commander of the U.S. Power Squadron (Bangor, Maine Chapter). She sailed across the Atlantic 2 times and about 16 times to the Caribbean and back. She was on the Board of Directors of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Maine. Carol was a member of the High Street Congregational Church of Newport, ME, and the South Brooksville Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Robert; sons, Mark Dinsmore and wife Caroline of Winchester, VA, Michael Dinsmore and wife Kristie of Kalamazoo, MI; grandchildren, Lori, Rachael, Daniel, Anna; great-granddaughter, Vanessa; and a sister, H. Marilyn Vankat of Grand Rapids, MI. She was predeceased by husbands, Rev. Terry Dinsmore, Edward Stone; a son, Dale in 1985; brothers, Russell Glaum, Donald Glaum, and Warren Glaum. Memorial services were held at 1 PM, Thursday, December 16, 2004 at the Blue Hill Congregational UCC Church. John L. Sokoloski, Jr.

DEXTER - John L. Sokoloski, Jr. 21, died August 24, 2005 at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born July 30, 1984 in Hartford, CT the son of John and Rosemarie (Plungy) Sokoloski, Sr. At the time of his death, he was working as a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed hunting, but most of all he loved fishing with his dog Tyson. John cherished his life and lived every day to the fullest. He is survived by his mother, Rosie, of Dexter; a sister, Angela Sokoloski and her boyfriend, Travis Turner of Newport; brother, Teddy Sokoloski of Dexter; half-sister, Jackie Turner of Middleton, CT; step-mother, Laurie Sokoloski; 2 step-sisters, Erin and Ashley, and 2 step-brothers, Tony and Brennan McGeoghegan, all of Dexter; many aunts, uncles and cousins, including a very special aunt, Donna Williams of Dexter; many friends, including his best friend, Andy Rolfe of Dexter and special friends, Michelle Copeland, Eddie Major, Bryon Webber, Matt Mountain, Jason Clukey, Nick Bragg, Kyle Roach, and Dr. Victor Andrews; and to the girl who had John’s heart, Suzanne Ready of Dexter.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Murray at Mayo Regional Hospital. He was predeceased by his father in 2004. Kenneth A. King

CORINNA - Kenneth A. King, 77, beloved family patriarch, died peacefully at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home August 26, 2005. He was born October 25, 1927, the son of Henry and Dorothy (Cook) King.
A graduate of Corinna Union Academy, class of 1945, Ken was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was a skilled meat cutter and worked at Jones’s Market, Hanson & Smith, Moore’s Market, Fernald’s Market and Bud’s Shop & Save in Newport. He also did custom meat cutting in the fall for many years. Ken enjoyed woodcrafting and created many beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends. The fruits of his bountiful garden were shared with one and all. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours golfing with friends. He was a comical story teller and was also the family philosopher. Ken and his wife Mim were fortunate to have spent many years traveling and especially enjoyed the Shrine Club trips. He was recently asked by a hospital staff member where his favorite place was. He answered “at the dinner table with my wife and my children.” Ken attended the Corinna United Methodist Church. He had served as a town constable and member of the fire department for many years. He belonged to the American Legion Post 73, and was a member and past master of Parian Lodge, AF & AM, both of Corinna. He was also a member of the Anah Shrine and was past president of the Tri-County Shrine Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Miriam (Hilliker) King, and his sister, Nancy King, both of Corinna; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Dorman of Exeter; a son-in-law, William Gallagher of Corinna; and a daughter-in-law Ona Elgee of Albuquerque, NM. Ken leaves five grandchildren and their spouses whom he dearly loved, Randy & Pamela Dorman of Pittsfield, Angela and Wade McCrum of Mars Hill, Amy and Jason Grenier of Exeter, Kenneth and Angela Dorman of Exeter, and Andrew and Tina Gallagher of Dover, NH. He took special delight in his great grandchildren, Emma Elisabeth Dorman, Dayna Elaine, Keara Ann, and Samantha Marie McCrum, Robert Steven Dorman, and Sage Cynthia Grenier, who was born on August 22nd. He was predeceased by his parents, and his beloved children, Steven Kenneth King and Cynthia Lee (King) Gallagher. Friends called from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Tuesday, August 30th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, where Masonic services were held at 7 PM. Funeral services were held 1 PM on Wednesday, August 31st, at the Corinna United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Sharon Lovejoy officiating. Private interment will be in the family lot, Corinna Village cemetery. Theodora “Teddy” M. McLeod

FORT PIERCE, FL and GARLAND, ME - Theodora “Teddy” M. McLeod beloved wife of Kenneth E. McLeod. Went home to be with the Lord April 27, 2005. Born in Annapolis MD, March 14, 1922. Surviving are her husband Ken of 58 years, 3 children Sheila Smith and husband Lawrence of Medway, ME, Kenneth McLeod, Jr. and wife Barbara of Anthem, AZ and Deborah Whitmore of FL, brothers Al Dekalb and wife Jean of SC, Donald Dekalb and wife Yvonne of GA and George Dekalb of SC, 1 sister Carrie Schott and husband Bill of DE. Theodora was predeceased by sister Francis Freeman and brother Baron Dekalb of MD. She will be greatly missed by her many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren. Teddy was a loving mother & devoted to her family. Burial was at Riverside cemetery Orono, ME.

J. Wesley Oliver

J. Wesley Oliver, 94, of Pittsfield passed away on August 05, 2005 at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, leaving a profound impact on everyone who knew him. The son of Solomon Hardy Oliver and Annie Mae (Sellick) Oliver, Wesley was born on March 22, 1911 in Alberton, Prince Edward Island. He moved to the United States on his own at the age of 13. He proceeded to work his way through high school and then through the University of Maine at Orono, graduating in the class of 1938. He also served in the National Guard. Wesley lived most of his adult life in Monroe, where he raised his family. He will be remembered as a wonderful storyteller, a great athlete, a strong advocate of education, a civic leader who was very involved in local and state politics, an avid gardener, an enterprising entrepreneur, teacher and poultry farmer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Maine Farm Bureau and the Maine School District Commission. He also served many years as a selectman and school board member. He is survived by his wife Berta Gasper Oliver of Pittsfield. He is also survived by his eight children: John W. Oliver III and his wife Marie of Cottonwood, AL; Heather Sargent and her husband Don of Robbinston, ME; Anne Bradeen and her husband Rodney of Unity, ME; David Oliver and his wife Alisa of Thorndike, ME; Joan MacAulay and her husband David of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Doug Oliver and his wife Diane of Monroe, ME; Pam Oliver of Franklin, ME; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife Ruth Currie, mother of John; second wife, Katherine Claire Profit Oliver, mother of Heather, Anne, Janet, David, Joan, Doug and Pam; and one special grandson, Shawn Oliver, formerly of Thorndike. A Memorial Service to celebrate Wesley’s life will be held at Monroe Community Church on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at 3 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave, Pittsfield, Maine.

Gertrude M. Schnuck

CORINNA - Gertrude M. Schnuck, 88, died August 7, 2005 at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 4, 1917 at Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Max and Lottie (McLaughlin) Jensen. Gertrude graduated from Matawan High School, Class of 1936. After the death of her husband, Richard, she moved to Corinna from New Jersey to be near her daughter and family in 1989. She was an Episcopalian by faith, but had attended the Corinna United Methodist Church with her daughter. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Carol and husband, Peter Metivier of Corinna; a sister-in-law, Anna Burlew of Old Bridge, New Jersey; 4 grandchildren, Allen Burnette of Croydon, Pennsylvania, Scott Burnette of Corinna, Peter Metivier of Buena Vista, Virginia, and Valerie Monismith of Germantown, Tennessee; 10 great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Michael, Sierra, Emily and Joshua Burnette, Gregory, Ashley, Victoria and Matthew Randall, and Stephen Monismith; 1 great great grand-daughter, Mattison Kendall. Funeral services were held at 11:30 AM on Friday, August 12th, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Keyport, New Jersey. Friends called at the Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, New Jersey from 10 AM until the time of the funeral mass. Burial was in the Shoreland Memorial cemetery in Keyport, New Jersey. Dudley T. Curry

NEWPORT - Dudley Thomas Curry, 72, died peacefully July 5, 2005 at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor following a long illness. He was born in New Market, Alabama, December 16th, 1932 the son of Archie and Golda (Fulgham) Curry. He was educated in Alabama schools. Dudley was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force.
While stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor he met and married Dorene B. Burke Sept 14, 1957 in Newport. “Dud” was an electrician by trade and worked for many years at Allen Electric in Hampden retiring in 1990 due to ill health. He was a long time member of the Newport Fire Department. He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, and while they were growing up he volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and a Little League coach for several years. He was a member of the Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge of Newport and a member of the Nokomis Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Newport. He served as Master of Meridian Splendor and as Worthy Patron of Nokomis Chapter both at the same time. He was a former member of St. Omer Commandery and Anah Shrine. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Dorene B. Curry of Newport, three sons, Robert Curry and his wife Mary of Etna, Michael Curry and his friend Denise of Newport, Terry Curry and his wife Gail of Plymouth, a step brother and his wife Wayne and Bobbie Walker of Alabama, a step sister-in-law Regina Walker of Alabama, five grandchildren; Ryan, Nichole, Ethan, Seth, and Kya several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends called from 2 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM on Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High Street, Newport. Marybeth (Dunakin) McLaggan

PLYMOUTH - Marybeth McLaggan, 51, died June 28, 2005 at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 30, 1953 at Bangor a daughter of Stanley and Mary (Smith) Dunakin, Sr. of North Newport.
Marybeth attended Newport schools and graduated from nursing school. She was a U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. While working as a nurse she had great compassion for her patients and their families. In 2001 she was the recipient of the Veteran’s Administration Secretary’s Hands and Heart award. She was most recently employed at the Sebasticook Health Care Facility in Pittsfield and the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. On July 22, 1999, she married Royce W. McLaggan. Marybeth enjoyed working in her flower garden and taking evening drives with her husband. She also enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition to her husband of Plymouth, she is survived by 3 sons, John Brown of Seattle, WA, Shawn Brown of Spain, and Joseph Brown of Georgia ; 2 step sons, Randy McLaggan of Plymouth and Ronnie McLaggan of South China; and a step-daughter, Tiffany McLaggan of Detroit; 5 sisters, Barbara (Oliver) Metz of New Jersey, Margaret (Oliver) Martineau of Florida, Beverly (Oliver) Jenkins of Connecticut, Sandi (Dunakin) Counselman of Florida, and Sharon (Dunakin) Pelletier of Florida; a brother, Stanley Dunakin, Jr. of Florida. She was predeceased by brothers, Neil and Richard Oliver. A graveside committal service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 7th at Detroit Village cemetery, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Clara Althea Fairbrother

DEXTER & NEWPORT - Clara Althea Fairbrother, 62, passed on Tuesday morning June 28th, 2005, after a courageous two year battle with lung cancer. Clara is survived by her sister Lorraine Lambert, her three children Maria Fairbrother, Pam Kriton, and Paul Kritos, her four grandchildren, Sharissa Cyra, Allison Kriton, Paul Kriton and Serenity Fairbrother. Clara was born in Dexter, ME and raised in Newport, ME. She moved to Manchester, NH during her high school years and later fell in love with George Nickolas Kriton with whom she shared a twelve year marriage. While working two jobs to raise her children, Clara also attended college to earn a degree in Human Services. Her work reflected her interest in Human Services. Central High School helping students, Foster Grandparents Program aiding the elderly, and the Wic program assisting financially challenged mothers. Clara moved to Hampton Beach, NH in 1994 where she changed her name to Cara (meaning friend). Cara was a gifted psychic, and despite peoples criticisms, she pursued her talent by opening Mystic Visions, a small new age shop. She spent eight years giving readings, and counseling people in need. Cara Fairbrother dedicated her life to helping people. She believed each one of us carries a responsibility to our Mother Earth and if we all walked our true path given by our Creator, we could dance hand in hand to the sweet melody of world harmony. She carried the spirit of a warrior and the love of a saint. She spent the last six months of her life in Kingston, NH where she appreciated the beauty of nature and marveled in all of its magic. Cara Fairbrother brought joy and wisdom to every life she touched. She will be missed by many. Marion P. Wilber

PITTSFIELD - Marion P. Wilber, 79, of Pittsfield passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Sebasticook Valley Hospital. She was born March 3, 1926 in Detroit, Maine, the daughter of Ralph and Viola (Basford) Pearl. Marion graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1944. She married Carl Wilber on June 30, 1945. Marion was a stay at home mom until her children were grown. At age of 46, she began working in the weave room at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, where she remained until retirement. Marion’s greatest joy was her family. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her newest great-grandchild. Marion will be lovingly remembered for her resolute nature, her courage and continued sense of humor, her enjoyment of the daily crossword puzzle and her beautiful embroidery and crewel work.
She is survived by her children, John and Linda Wilber of Dexter, Carleen and Donald Harriman of Palmyra, Brent and Sherry Wilber of Corinna, Loretta and Jerry Martin of Pittsfield; grandchildren Jeffrey, Robert and Peter Wilber, Angela Cupples, Christopher Harriman and Ellie Martin; great-grandchildren Caleb, Lauren, Colby, Dustin, Emily, Courtney, Nicole, Kylie and Ethan. She also leaves her beloved brothers and sisters Elmer and Patricia Pearl of Summerfield, FL and Marjorie and Charles Simpson of Barefoot Bay, FL, and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Carl Wilber and her parents.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends at the Detroit Village cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the Sebasticook Valley Hospital, 99 Grove Street, Pittsfield, ME 04967.

Kenneth V. Ludden

NEWPORT - Kenneth V. Ludden, 80, died unexpectedly June 28, 2005 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born December 7, 1924 at Plymouth, the son of Charles and Florence (Gifford) Ludden. He was a long-time member of the Newport Full Gospel Church where he served as a board member. Kenneth worked as an auto mechanic at several Newport businesses, and later owned his own business, Ludden’s Auto Repair, retiring in 1984. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eveleine (Braley) Ludden of Newport; 3 sons and their wives, Royce and Shirley Ludden of Palmyra, Glenn and Patty Ludden of Etna, Brett and Janice Ludden of Pittsfield; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Erma Hopkins of Bangor and Alice Hurlburt of Pittsfield. Friends may call from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Newport Full Gospel Church, Elm Street, Newport, where funeral services were held at 1 PM on Friday, July 1st, with the Reverend Carl Engstrom and Associate Pastor Brian Woodbury officiating. H. Gail Sawtelle

CORINNA - H. Gail Sawtelle, 80, died June 24, 2005, at the Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. She was born March 5, 1925, in Harmony, the daughter of Percy and Molly (Pease) Bickford, and was raised by the Jessie and Minnie Davis family in Corinna. She is survived by a son, Charles and his wife, Filomena Sawtelle of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a daughter, Jacquelyn Sawtelle of Corinna; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Archie Sawtelle and a son, William Sawtelle. Graveside services were held at 10 AM, Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Corinna Center cemetery in Corinna. Colby L. Emery

DOVER-FOXCROFT & HERMON - Colby L. Emery, 84, died June 28, 2005. He was born April 29, 1921 at Stacyville, the son of Jerry and Helena (Freve) Emery. Colby worked many years for himself as a woodman, and retired from International Paper in Dover-Foxcroft. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Dover-Foxcroft. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding snowmobiles and camping with family and friends. He traveled around the state by horse-drawn covered wagons, often raising funds for Operation Lift Off. He also enjoyed carpentry and helping build and remodel homes. Colby is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Althea; a son, Jerry and wife Darlene of Dover-Foxcroft; 2 daughters, Sharon Stevens and husband Robert of Bangor and Kristy Emery of Storrs, CT; grandchildren, Sean Emery and wife Robin of Bangor, Renee Hamlin and husband Scott of Dixmont, Charles Emery and wife Susan of Abbot, Tammy Bickmore and Bernadette Kroone of St. Portland, Elizabeth Brewer and husband Donald of Corinth, Andrew Bickmore and wife Karen of Washington, ME, Terri Jo LaClaire and husband Phillip of Tampa, FL; great grandchildren, Meagan, Johnathon, Cheyanne, Dakota, Colby, Benjamin, Nicole, Matthew, Mckenzie, Jacob, Mindy and Michael; and a brother, Keith Emery of Skowhegan. He was predeceased by sisters, Irene, Lucille, Auriella and Leanoa, and brothers, Leonard, Morris, Fremont and Durwood. The family would like to say a very special thank you to the staff of Brewer Rehab & Living Center, B Wing, and to the Hospice staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital for the thoughtful care and support for Colby and his family. As per Colby’s wishes, a burial service will be held at 3 PM on Wednesday, July 6th at the Morse’s Corner cemetery, Corinna. A celebration to honor his memory will be held at the Corinna American Legion Hall, 47 Maple Street, Corinna, following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.
