Alice Garnett Willey

CORINNA - Alice Garnett Willey, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, January 18, 2007 after a brief illness at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 13, 1918 in Corinna, a daughter of Carl and Grace (Miller) Garnett. Alice was a long time resident of Sunshine Village in Corinna. She attended Newport schools and worked at Moosehead Mill and later at Eastland Woolen Mill until her retirement. She was a former member of the Corinna American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities in her early years. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her sister, reading, crossword puzzles, and watching basketball. Alice was “Gram” to everyone who knew her. Gram’s family was her top priority. She was involved in all the activities of the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Gudroe and husband Robert of Corinna; one brother, Harold Garnett and wife Charlene of Mount Vernon; 3 grandchildren, Wanda Butler and husband Chip, Diana McNaughton and husband Ralph, all of Newport, and Alan Gudroe and wife Dee of Lakeland, FL; 6 great grandchildren, Jarrett Butler and wife Nikki, Nicholas Butler, Adam McNaughton and wife Lindsay, Brandon McNaughton, Rachel Jeffs and husband, Bob, and Marcy Gudroe; 7 great great grandchildren, Morgan, Ethyn, Lexi, Samantha, Alana, Blake, and Mariah; several nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by a brother, Norman Garnett; a sister, Ruth Rideout; and a great grandson, Ryan Butler. Friends called from 2 to 3 PM on Monday, January 22nd at the Crosby & Neal Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, where funeral services were held at 3 PM with Rev. Sharon Lovejoy officiating. Donald H. Farnham

EXETER Donald H. Farnham, 79, died January 17, 2007 at his residence after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born January 15, 1928 in Dexter, the son of Albion and Florence May (Nickerson) Smith.
He had been a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines, serving in WW II and in Korea. He worked in the woods and on construction but greatly enjoyed working the auctions, buying selling and trading with all his many friends. Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, Jeanette L. Cates Farnham of Exeter are his children, Judy and Alan Pineda and Jari Farnham, all of Alexandria, VA, June Fillmore of Dexter, Jaye Farnham and Ron Brown of Fredricksburg, VA, John Farnham and Lisa of Exeter, Jill Farnham of Stetson, Jason Farnham of Exeter, James Farnham of Skowhegan, Jarina Farnham of Palmyra, Gary Farnham and Mary of Solon and William Farnham of Skowhegan; a sister, Gertrude Burton of Holiday, FL; many half brothers and sisters; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Donald will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by two brothers, William Smith and Lyle Farnham and a son, Joey Farnham. Memorial graveside services will be held at the Union cemetery in Moscow in the spring. Cremation arrangements are by the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth.

Edna M. Prosser

PALMYRA - Edna M. Prosser, 74, wife of Murray F. Prosser, went to be with her Lord January 22, 2007. She was born August 4, 1932 at Fort Fairfield, a daughter of Raymond and Anna (Barker) Smith. On March 4, 1950, she married Murray Prosser. They moved from the family homestead in Monticello to Palmyra in 1982. Edna attended Monticello Full Gospel Church, Deeper Life Assembly in Pittsfield, and the Jubilee Family Worship Center in Newport. She was currently a member of Solid Rock Church of God in Pittsfield. Her life was dedicated to the Lord’s work and helping others. Edna is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Murray; 2 sons, Frank and wife Belinda Prosser, Ray and wife Daryl Lynn Prosser, all of Palmyra; 2 daughters, Anita and husband Gordon Ginnish of Plymouth and Priscilla and husband Tom Hanson of Kenduskeag; a brother, Charles and wife Ruth Smith of Presque Isle; 4 sisters, Rita and husband Frank Babin of MA, Vera Larson of New Sweden, Phyllis and husband Keith Ireland of Caribou, and Diane and husband Delbert Martin of NY; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Friends called from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, January 26th at the Apostolic Bible Church, 363 Moosehead Trail Street, Newport, where funeral services were held at 1 PM on Saturday with the Reverend Dana Perkins officiating. Thomas F. Caluri

STETSON - Thomas F. Caluri, 65, died January 25, 2007 at his residence after a struggle with cancer. He was born April 21, 1941 in Hackensack, New Jersey, a son of Francis and Alma (DePiero) Caluri. He graduated from high school and became a professional truck driver for 45 years, most recently working for Currier Trucking Company in Bangor. Tom was a communicant of St. John's Catholic Church in Bangor. He is survived by his wife, Deidre, of Stetson; 3 sons, Michael and Mitchel Caluri, both of Stetson, and James Caluri of Hillsdale, NJ; 2 daughters, Victoria Cole-Wilbur and husband Dean Wilbur of Wallingford, VT, Dawn and husband Guytano Randazzo of Yonkers, NY; a brother Russell and wife Elizabeth Caluri of Bracey, VA; 6 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 10 AM. Saturday, February 10th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. A committal service will be held in April at Clark’s Hill cemetery in Stetson. .

Mary Arlene Maloon

NEWPORT & BOWDOINHAM - Mary Arlene “Mickey” “Gram” (Crossman) Maloon, went home to be with her Lord on January 16, 2007 after a brief illness. She was born April 3, 1919 in Corinna, the daughter of Walter and Millicent Crossman. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy. Mickey married her husband Theodore in May of 1937. She was employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna and local shoe factories. Mickey enjoyed spending time with her children and many grandchildren, working in her flower garden and playing cards. She was also lifetime member of the Pittsfield Garden Club. She is survived by her children, a son Theodore Maloon, Jr. and his wife Marjorie of Detroit and two daughters, Joanne Snowdeal and her companion Paul Berube of Bowdoinham and Evelyn and her husband Harry Braley of Newport. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. Mickey was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Maloon, Sr. At Mickey’s request, there will be no services at this time. A spring graveside committal service will be held for the family at the Detroit Village cemetery with her pastor Tom Frey of the Dresden Richmond United Methodist Church officiating. Shirlee A. McKay

WEST GARDINER & DEXTER - Shirlee Ann McKay, 54, died January 14, 2007 at an Augusta hospital. She was born April 6, 1952 at Dexter, a daughter of Malcolm and Joyce (Higgins) Brown. She had been employed at Healthtex and at Augusta area nursing homes, most recently as a CNA at Maine General Hospital in Augusta, until her retirement due to failing health. Shirlee was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #4 and the Elks Club of Gardiner. She is survived by her mother of Dexter; 2 sisters, Debbie and husband, Kenny Irish of Hartland, and Karen and husband, Paul Moulton of Corinna; a brother, David Brown of Dexter; her fiancé, Dana Foster of West Gardiner; special aunt, Inez Brown and a special cousin, Cindy Estabrook, both of Winthrop; special nieces, nephews, and many friends; as well as her kitty named Tinker Bell. She was predeceased by her father in 1973. There will be no services at this time. A spring committal service will be held at the West Garland cemetery at a time to be announced. Arlene E. Kenney

CORINNA & DEXTER - Arlene E. Kenney, 79, went home to be with the Lord January 7, 2007, surrounded by her family. She was born October 22, 1927 in North Newport, a daughter of Donald and Mamie (Wentworth) Gray. She attended the Hubbard School in North Newport and went to Corinna Union Academy and Newport High School. On August 7, 1948, she married Norman Kenney. She worked at Moosehead Woolen Mill, Snowflake Canning Company, Eastland Woolen Mill, and Dexter Shoe Company in Dexter. Arlene enjoyed watching the birds at her feeders, especially humming birds. She enjoyed listening to country and gospel music, and the old time hymns. Arlene belonged to the Corinna Happy Hour Club for over 50 years. She attended the Morses Corner Baptist Church in Corinna, and Stetson Union Church. She is survived by 2 sons and a daughter: Donald and wife Anita, Norma and husband Stan, Stewart and wife Lesa; brothers Ronald and wife Kay, Clyde and wife Theresa, sister Gloria and husband Norman; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Derek Fales, Jeremy and Jana Kenney; and Arlene’s little dog, Cuddles; cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Norman, brothers Robert, William, and Stanley, her sister Joyce, and a special son in law, Terrance Keaten. There will be no public visitation. A graveside funeral and committal service will be held at Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna, in the spring with the Reverend David Ray, Sr. officiating. Raymond J. Arsenault

PITTSFIELD - Raymond Joseph Arsenault, 80, of Pittsfield, formerly of Rumford, passed away on January 1, with his loving family by his side. He was born on November 11, 1926 the son of Emile Arsenault and Leona Richards Arsenault. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He received two service medals, a World War II Victory Medal and an American Area Medal. He worked for Boise Cascade for 43 years. He was a family man, a very creative carpenter and very active in the community. He coached little league baseball, was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Red Sox. He was a member of the snowshoe club and the American Legion. He loved to go to Foxwoods and play the slots. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Collette Arsenault; a son, James Arsenault, and wife, Patricia; a daughter, Nancy Bellfleur, and husband, Conrad, of Pittsfield; his grandchildren, Kelly Woodman, and husband, David, David Arsenault, and wife, Heather and Aaron Arsenault; and his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kylie, Brandon, Aaron and Ethan. He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, David and Robert Arsenault; a brother, Ernest Arsenault; and a sister, Irene Morin.

Linda M. Bernard

DIXMONT - Linda M. Bernard, 54, died January 7, 2007 at a Bangor hospital as the result of an automobile accident. She was born April 3, 1952 at Hartland, a daughter of William and Dorothy (Wright) Garnett, Sr. She attended the Baxter School for the Deaf. She is survived by her fiancé, Peter Coppa of Dixmont; 3 sons, Paul and wife Corinne Garnett of Toledo, OH, Ron and wife Amanda Valli of Dexter, and Stanley Bernard of Dixmont; a daughter, Rose Bernard of Sangerville; a brother, Clarence Garnett of Detroit; 4 sisters, Mary Seaver of Hartland, Ellma Giles of Corinna, Ella Adams of FL, and Jennie McDougal of St. Albans; 9 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Walley Adams of NH; 2 sisters-in-law, Connie Garnett of Dexter and Yvonne Garnett of Palermo; aunt and uncle, Annie and Paul Shepherd of Cherryfield; and her special dog, Coco. She was predeceased by 4 brothers, William, Jr., Russell, Stanley, and Keith Garnett. Sarah Whitman

BERLIN, NH - Sarah Jane Whitman, 26, died Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at her home with her nephew, Jonathan. Born August 14, 1980, in Haverhill, MA, she was the daughter of Sandy (Martin) Ellis and John Whitman Sr. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, by her mother and stepfather, Sandy and Tim Ellis of Berlin, NH; father and stepmother, John and Marie Whitman of Pittsfield, ME; sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy-Lee (Whitman) and Jon Ellis of Berlin, NH; Lisa Whitman; nephew, Kya-Maleco Wade Ellis of Berlin, NH; brothers, John Whitman Jr. of Maine, David Whitman of Pittsfield, ME; unofficial sisters, Kari Schaefer of Farmington, NH, Tiffany Ploud of Rochester, NH; grandmothers, Eleanor Whitman of Pittsfield, ME, Margaret (Martin) Hartford of Haverhill, MA; favorite aunt, Linda Hafford of Ossipee, NH; aunt, Peggy Rollins of Farmington, NH; longtime friend and roommate to Sarah, Jerry Lunderville of Berlin, NH; also several aunts and uncles, as well as many cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Alice Hartford; grandfather, Eltheran (Larry) Whitman; uncle, Paul Hartford, Popeye, and James Darby. She had received her GED from Berwick, ME and enjoyed writing poems, crocheting, playing games and just talking to her family. She especially loved spending time with her nephew, Jonathan. Her favorite song was "Let them be Little" by Billie Dean. Memorial calling hours were held Friday from 1 to 4 PM with a memorial service to held at 4 PM in the chapel of the R.M. Anita (Hanson) Hewins

NEWPORT - Anita (Hanson) Hewins, 89, died December 30, 2006. She was born June 17, 1917 at Newport, a daughter of Freeman and Gracie (Spaulding) Hanson. She was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1937. Anita was a faithful member of the People’s United Methodist Church in Newport. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Donald Hewins; a son Michael and wife Dianne Thurston of Carrollton, Ohio; a brother Rodney and wife Nellie Hanson of Newport; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Norman, Jasper, and Harold; and a sister Irene Wyman. Funeral services were held at 10 AM on Thursday, January 4th, at the People’s United Methodist Church, Newport, with the Reverend George Darling officiating. Family viewing will be private. Scott W. Jaynes

PITTSFIELD - Scott Jaynes, 45, died at home January 3, 2007 after a five month battle with esophageal cancer. Scott was born September 11, 1961 in Syracuse, NY to William and Dorothy (Drumm) Jaynes. He graduated from Baker High School, Baldwinsville, NY in 1979. He enlisted in the US Navy upon graduation and served 12 years. He received a good conduct discharge in 1992 as a Boatswainmate 1st Class. Most of those 12 years were spent in Virginia Beach, VA. He was stationed in Holy Lock, Scotland for one tour, and was deployed on various ships throughout his naval career. He met his wife while they were both serving a ACB-2 in Little Creek, VA. Scott was a den leader for the Boy Scout Pack #428 in Pittsfield, volunteered with the Pittsfield Community Little League, and was a member of the Driftbusters Snowmobile Club in Pittsfield. Three years ago Scott found the job of his dreams. He started working as a substitute teacher. He was then hired as an Ed-Tech at the Vickery School in Pittsfield. Scott enjoyed summers at Stetson shores. You would find him out in his boat fishing as the sun was coming up. Dutch oven cooking was his summer specialty. Every Sunday was spent having popcorn and watching the Nascar races. He loved lots of snow so he could take his son, Chad snowmobiling and ice skating. He also liked to take Chad on ATV trips. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cynthia J. (Burr) Jaynes and their son, Chad P. Jaynes, both of Pittsfield; Scott’s son, Shawn Barker of Syracuse, NY his father, William Jaynes of Pittsfield; cousin, Jerry Jaynes and his wife Maureen of Syracuse, NY; mother-in-law, Linda Lougee and her husband George of Newport; father-in-law, Lawrence Burr and wife Faith of Norfolk, MA; sister-in-law, Amanda Burr of Norfolk, MA; brother-in-law, L. Robert Burr of Newport; nieces, Maggie of Hartland, Emma and Allison Burr and a very special nephew, Patrick Burr, all of Newport; special friends, Shelley, Mike and Nick DeMilia of Sterling, MA. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy, on October 26, 2005. The students and staff at Vickery School will sadly miss him. Friends called 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday, January 5th at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. A celebration of Scott’s life was held 10 at AM on Saturday, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove Street, Newport with Pastor George Finnemore officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the funeral. Charles V. Holt

PLYMOUTH - Charles Verne Holt, 81, husband of Olive (Roberts) Holt, died December 21, 2006 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born January 2, 1925 at Plymouth a son of Moses and Thala (Adams) Holt. He graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1942. During World War II, Charlie worked at the Camden Shipbuilding and Marine Railway Company. He later worked at the Eugene Gray farm in Plymouth, Cummings Mill, and later, Guilford Industries in Newport, Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, and also operated a shop at his home on Moosehead Trail, sharpening saws. Charles was predeceased by his mother Thala, father Moses, stepmother Rowena “Lottie”, sister Reta, brother Roland and his first wife Rosilla “Jane”. In addition to his wife of Plymouth, he is survived by 2 brothers Ivan and wife Ardis Holt of Plymouth; and Lloyd and wife Beverly Holt of Gainesville, Florida; a sister, Thelma “Jackie” Holt of Brooksville, Florida; several nieces and nephews; as well as several step sons and daughters. There will be no services at this time. Spring graveside committal services will be held at Sawyer cemetery, Plymouth, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Roland Gale Butcher

LEWISTON - Roland G. Butcher, 75, of Auburn passed away after a long illness at CMMC on December 19, 2006 with his loving family by his side. Roland was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 20, 1931. He was the only son of George and Anita (O’Malley) Butcher. Roland went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force and then went to work for the former North East and Yellow Bird Airlines, now Delta Air Lines for over 30 years until his retirement in October 1 1986; he loved to work. Roland greatly enjoyed traveling especially to Florida, California and Vegas. He loved ocean and enjoyed spending his summers on York Beach. Roland found great enjoyment in dining, whether it be at home or out in public. He also was a Red Sox fan. Roland is survived by his four children; daughter, Anita Lane and husband David of Turner, and sons, Arthur Butcher and wife Sue of Auburn, Dwain Butcher and wife Kathy of Winthrop, and Kenneth Butcher and wife Martha of Turner, his ten grandchildren; Kenny, Hope, Eric, Kendra, Kelsey, Amy, Jenni, Kayla, Kristen and Kacie, a great grandchild, MacKenzie as well as his extended family at Clover Manor. He was predeceased by his wife Lucienne (Perreault) Butcher. Roland’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Clover Manor for all the love and care shown to Roland and his family over the last seven years. Doris Charlene Stackpole

PITTSFIELD - Doris Charlene Stackpole, 66, died December 11, 2006 at a Bangor hospital from injuries received as a result of an automobile accident. She was born in Newport on May 19, 1940 the daughter of A. Victor and Alice (Gould) Colby Sr. She was a graduate of Newport High School. She was married to Martin Stackpole who died June 28, 1984. Martin and Doris liked to fish and you were apt to see them fishing anywhere around Sebasticook Lake. She loved the out doors especially while picking berries. She could be seen regularly walking around Pittsfield and Newport. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Church. She is survived by one son Scot Henderson and his partner Sharon, one brother and his wife William and Laureen Colby of Hartland, one sister Ann Howe of Palmyra, two grandchildren Erica Henderson of Calais, James Luckern of Fairfield, several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by a former sister-in-law and friend Carol. She was predeceased by her parents, two daughters Brenda Lee, and Jeanne Henderson, a brother A. Carmel Belanger

BURNHAM - Carmel Belanger, 58 of Main Street passed away on December 7, 2006 in Waterville, ME. He was born on April 4, 1948 in LeJeune, Canada the son of Gerard Belanger and Anne-Marie (Soucy) Belanger. He later met and married his wife of 38 years Ginette Belanger on July 27, 1968. He worked as a drywaller for most of his working career and most recently working for Porter Drywall in Scarborough for the last ten years. Carmel loved the outdoors and he enjoyed going deer and moose hunting, he loved going trout fishing in Canada, and he enjoyed ice fishing. He is survived by his wife Ginette of Burnham, three children; Perry Belanger of Salem, NH, Diane Belanger of Sangerville, Melisa Belanger of Burnham, five grandchildren; Sebastian, Josie, Sabrina, Anna Lee and Samantha, three brothers; Richard, Regis and Philippe Belanger, seven sisters; Rita, Louiselle, Marielle, Aline, Francine, Danielle and Lise, three brother in-laws; Regean, Clermon and Fernand, three sister in-laws; Claudette, Francine and Carole, aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother in-law Claude and a sister in-law Regeane. Visiting hours were held on Sunday, December 10, 2006 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 11 AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Detroit Ave., Pittsfield with a gathering to follow at the Knights of Columbus, Dobson Street, Pittsfield. Arrangements are entrusted to Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.

Evelyn S. Dow

PALMYRA - Evelyn S. Dow, 74, died unexpectedly December 7, 2006 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born September 15, 1932 in Easton the daughter of Kenneth and Anna (Hayden) Stevenson. She was employed for over 20 years at Farm Credit Service in Newport and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Newport, where she printed the weekly bulletin for many years. She was a member of the Nokomis Chapter #42, Order of the Eastern Star in Newport. Evelyn is survived by her children, Katrina Graves and fiancé, Barry Sheffield of Exeter, Lorrie and husband Russ Hamlin of Kenduskeag, Dennis and wife Wanda Dow of Newport; 3 grandchildren, Heather Graves, Heidi Gagnon, and Andria Dow; 5 great grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley Nichols, Christopher and Megan Gagnon, and Cole Parkinson; several nieces and nephews; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice Killam of Palmyra and Eldora Dow of Perham. She was predeceased by her husband Dennis, and 2 brothers, Roy and Albert Stevenson. Funeral services were held 2 PM Monday, December 11th at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport with Pastor Kirk Mellen officiating. Friends called from 1 PM until the time of the service. Spring burial will be in Palmyra Village cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sebasticook Valley Hospital, 99 Grove Street, Pittsfield, ME 04967.
