Dorothy B. Scott

Pittsfield - Dorothy B. Scott, 84, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Cedar Ridge Center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Athens on March 27, 1924, the daughter of John and Beatrice (Sidell) Foss.
Dorothy graduated from Somerset Academy in 1941 and attended Skowhegan Commercial School from 1941-1942 from there she accepted a secretarial position at the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. during WWII.
In 1946, she married James Scott, Jr. and together they operated general stores in Athens. In 1971, Dorothy embarked on a new life for herself and accepted a secretarial position at the Pineland Hospital in Pownal and was promoted to Administrative Secretary to the Commissioner of Mental Health and Retardation and retired from there in 1983. After retirement she also worked part-time for the University of Maine in Augusta. In 1984, she moved to Kissimmee, FL and would return to camp in Hartland during the summer months.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Roach and her husband, William, of Athens; her granddaughter, Sonja McSweeney and her husband, Kevin, of Athens; two grandsons, Shad Roach and his wife, Noelle, of Pittsfield and Scott Roach and his wife, Michele, of Athens; her great grandchildren, Amanda and Garrett McSweeney, Colby Roach, and Jonathan and Sarah Roach; a nephew, Peter Foss and his wife, Lisa; and a niece, Nicki Michonski and her husband, Bernie.
She was predeceased by a brother, Wendall Foss in 1971 and a very special aunt, Gladys Worth in 2008
The family of Dorothy would like to express their gratefulness to those who cared for her during the latter years of her life.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Dorothy’s life at a later date.

Richard H. Jones

DEXTER - Richard H. Jones, 86, died April 13, 2008, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. He was born August 9, 1921 in Canaan, NH, son of Arthur and Carolyn (Walker) Jones.
Dick served in the Army Air Force during WWII as part of the Commanding General’s Air Force, also part of the Ninth Air Force in Africa, Eighth Air Force in England, and the Fifteenth Air Force in Italy. He graduated from Franklin Institute in Boston and the New England College of Pharmacy in Boston. He owned and operated Porter’s Rexall in Corinna and later worked for the Dexter Pharmacy in Dexter. He was a member of many organizations including the American Legion, VFW, Dexter Club, a former member of the Dexter Kiwanis, the Maine Pharmacy Assn., Five County Pharmacy Assn. He was one of the originators of the Corinna Health Center. He started the Sun Shine Village in Corinna and served as their first president. Dick was one of the original directors of S.A.D. #48. He was also a member of the Dexter Municipal Golf Club. Dick formerly spent summers on Prince Edward Island and winters in Destin, FL.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Shook of Corinna; 2 sons and their wives, Richard and Deborah Jones of West Gardiner, and William and Jill Jones of Dexter; a brother, Arthur Jones of MA; grandchildren, Deanna Myers of MN, Jessica Shook of Portsmouth, NH, Robert Jones of Boston, and Heather Jones of Richmond; a great grandson, Anthony Lane Myers of MN. He was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Ruth (Eastman) Jones, and a sister, Doris Churchill.
Friends may call at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter, Wednesday, April 16, 2008, from 4 to 6:30 PM. Burial will be in the Corinna Village cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis, c/o Lois Field, 140 Grove Street, Dexter, ME 04930.

James K. Gudroe

DEXTER - James K. Gudroe, 48, died unexpectedly April 12, 2008, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born October 15, 1959, in Dexter, son of Richard and Madeline (Judkins) Gudroe.
Jim worked for the Maine Dept. of Transportation for over 29 years. He served for 5 years on the Garland Fire Dept. and for 16 years on the Dexter Fire Dept. and was currently serving his 2nd year as Dexter Fire Chief. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by his wife, family, and friends.
He is survived by his father, Richard “Keith” Gudroe of Dexter; his wife, Julie (Bonito) Gudroe of Dexter; 2 daughters, Mandee and her husband, Steve Brown and their 2 children, Caden and Addy of Dexter, and Jaimie Gudroe of Bangor; a stepson, Brandon Emerson of Dexter; 3 brothers, Rod and his wife, Barb of Palmyra, Dick and his wife, Tressa, and Mike and his wife, Faith, all of Dexter.
He was predeceased by his mother, Madeline "Tiny" Gudroe and his first wife, Patti.
Friends called Friday, April 18, 2008, from 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 PM at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Saturday, at Dexter Regional High School with Pastor Will Walters officiating, and honors to be given by the Dexter Fire Dept. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter, later in the spring.

Donald E. Brodeur

ABBOT - Donald E. Brodeur, 30, died July 13, 2008, at his home in Abbot. He was born May 24, 1978, in Bangor.
He graduated from PCHS, class of 1997. He loved hunting, and fishing and respected nature.
He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Jonas and her fiancé, David Fairbanks both of Wellington; a brother, David S. Fairbanks, Jr. of Wellington; 3 sisters, Christine McMillen of Sangerville, Julie Fairbanks of MA, and Amanda Brodeur of Augusta; paternal grandparents, Donald Brodeur and his wife, Adrianne of Corinna, maternal grandmother, Erma Nadeau of Stetson; maternal great grandmother, Avis Wilson of Stetson; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, including a special cousin, Makayla McKenzie; special friends including Mike Foster, Jon Farrar, Nick Benoit, Adam LaCotta, Mike Mozsgae, Johnny and Sarah.
He was predeceased by his stepfathers, Roy Somers, and Michael Jonas; a brother, Michael E. Jonas, and a cousin, Jacque McKenzie.
A graveside service was held 1 PM, Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Village cemetery in Abbot. Friends and family were asked to bring wildflowers to the service in his memory. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford.

Marie J. Hartley

CORINNA - Marie J. Hartley, 82, died July 11, 2008 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born February 23, 1926 in Waterville, a daughter of Clifford and Marie Gerard. She married Perley H. Hartley of Corinna on December 16, 1953. Marie was a member of the Corinna United Methodist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters and their husbands, Linda and Frank Dyer of Corinna and Peggy and James Seavey of Newport; a son and his wife, Will and Barbara O’Neal of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; 1 sister, Doris Charrier of Mesa, AZ; 2 grandchildren, Brian Dyer of Miami, FL and Kristen Seavey of Newport; 2 brothers-in-law, Earl Hartley and Darrell and wife Judy Hartley, all of Corinna; a sister-in-law, Dorothy and husband Harry Nason of Newport; many special nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Ruth Bowman and Dianah Robinson. Friends called from 6 to 8 PM, Monday, July 14th at Crosby & Neal Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. Funeral services were held 11 AM Tuesday, at the Corinna United Methodist Church with Pastors Ronnie Libby and Brian Gower of Center Barnstead, NH officiating. Burial will be in the Corinna Center cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Corinna United Methodist Church, c/o Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, ME 04953. .

Stephen Weymouth

PITTSFIELD - Stephen Weymouth, 67, died peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2008 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Dover-Foxcroft on January 28, 1941, the son of Robert and Arlene (Preble) Weymouth.
Stephen was educated in Dover-Foxcroft schools and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1959. He married Jackie Evans and together they raised two children. He served our country in the United States Army from 1960-1962. He was employed by the paper mill industry and retired as a pulp mill manager for Sappi Paper Company. He traveled globally for the company and especially enjoyed his trips to South Africa and Europe.
Stephen was a member of the Elks Club in Pittsfield and the J.W. Parks Golf Club in Pittsfield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, bowling, tennis, and especially golf. He loved to spend time at his home on Sebec Lake and enjoyed many days at the Prescot Hotel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jackie Weymouth of Pittsfield; his son, Michael Weymouth and wife, Cindy and their daughter, Zoe, of Oakland and Michael’s daughter, Aryn Weymouth of Winslow; his daughter, Lana Ballard and husband, Bob, and their children, Bobby and Nicole of Palmyra; his father, Robert Weymouth of Dover-Foxcroft; his brothers, Michael Weymouth and wife, Peggy, of Hingham, MA and Rob Weymouth of Dover-Foxcroft; his sister, Susan Small and husband, Buzz, of Sebec, and his brother, Peter Weymouth and wife, Karen, of Scarborough; his sisters-in-law, Dale Boyd and Barbara Boyleston, both of North Augusta, SC, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Arlene Weymouth.
The family received friends from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service was held at 2 PM, Friday, July 11, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 245 Main Street, Pittsfield with Dr. Wilson Hickam and Pastor Bill Johnson officiating. Interment was private.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to C3: Colorectal Cancer Coalition, 1225 King Street, 2nd Floor, Alexandria, VA 22314, in Stephen’s memory.

Pearle Channcy Ettinger, Sr.

PITTSFIELD - Pearle Channcy Ettinger, Sr. 84 died July 7, 2008, at his home with family at his side. He was born December 8, 1923, in Pittsfield the son of Pearl Ettinger and Mary Eva DeRaps. He attended Pittsfield Public Schools and Maine Central Institute. He owned and operated Pearle's Taxi in Pittsfield during the1940s and 50s. He later became a Master Electrician and worked for Sawyer's Electric in Newport. In addition he worked in several of the local woolen mills. Pearle was a long time member of the Pittsfield Volunteer Fire department. He enjoyed bowling and was well known on the local leagues. He is survived by his wife of 9 years Sally Ettinger of Pittsfield, two sons Pearle C. Ettinger Jr. (Skip) and wife Sung Hee of Lakewood, WA and Donald Ettinger and wife Margit of Pittsfield, 3 step-children Sally Woodard of Pittsfield, Pauline Withee & Fiancée John Lamore of South Portland, and David Withee of Newport, 2 sisters, Mary Inez Tuttle of Clinton, Doreen DeRaps of Pittsfield, a brother Roy DeRaps and wife April of Palmyra. Several Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: many nieces and nephews. Pearle is predeceased by his parents, daughter Karen Ettinger, brother Clarence DeRaps and sister Antonette Osgood. Services will consist of a graveside memorial service for friends and relatives at the Pittsfield cemetery at 10 AM on August 4, 2008.

Raymond E. Gagne

PITTSFIELD - Raymond E. Gagne, 67, passed away July 7, 2008 at his residence. He was born January 5, 1941 in Waterville, a son of Raymond and Katherine (Elias) Gagne. Ray graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1959. He served in the United States Army as a specialist until 1966, and graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA in 1969. Ray was employed by Stone-Webster, building nuclear power plants for 13 years, before returning to Maine, where he worked for Guilford Industries in Newport, retiring in 2003. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing and spent his last years living in Greenville. Ray is survived by his wife of 39 years, the former Gail R. Hersey of Pittsfield; four children, Reginald and wife Valerie Tyler of Brooks, Ben Tyler of Auburn, Raymond Gagne and wife, Jennifer Hopkins of Hartland, and Christina Gagne and husband Rob Keresey of Pittsfield; a sister, Elizabeth Calise of New York City; 11 grandchildren. A graveside committal service will be held 1 P.M. Friday, July 11th at the Pittsfield Village cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial donations to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. .

Ronald P. Lilley

HARTLAND - Ronald P. Lilley of Hartland went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2008 after a long courageous battle with diabetes. I gave you my love, you can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. But now it is time I travel on alone. We thank you for the love each have shown. Thanks to Ron’s dear friends Bob and Janice Rich, Dana Morgan and Ricky for always being there when Ron needed them. Please come join in a celebration of life for Ron on July 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Carl and Linda Lary’s 384 Bean’s Corner Road, Hartland. Sadly missed by Donna Lovely and Family.

Robert A. Randall

PALMYRA - Robert “Bob” A. Randall, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, June 28, 2008, after a very courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 28, 1935, the son of William and Florence (Leavitt) Randall. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961 as an aircraft and engine mechanic. Prior to entering the military Bob worked as a carpenter with his father and he married his first wife, Natalie Schubert with whom he had three children Sheryl, Allen and Robin.
When Bob left the military he resumed his carpentry career working with his brother in the family business. During his lifetime he helped build many homes and businesses in the region.
Bob later married his second wife, Winnifred Dow Nelson in 1970. Bob helped Winnie raise her sons David, Kevin and Mark Nelson plus they had two daughters together Holly and Julie. Bob and Winnie lived most of their married life on the road where Bob was born, the Badgerboro Road in Palmyra near Bob’s family including his brothers Charles Randall and his wife Jane; Jack Randall and wife Doris and his sister Sudie Davis and her husband Walter.
In 1980 Bob and Winnie left Maine while Bob worked construction throughout the Southern United States for Patten Construction as a superintendent guiding projects throughout Georgia, Virginia and Texas.
In 1991 they returned to their Palmyra home where they lived out their final days together. Bob was an expert marksman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his later years he enjoyed watching Nascar racing and NFL football with family and friends.
Bob lost Winnie in 2003 and he dearly missed her in his life every day.
Bob is survived by four sons, Allen Randall and companion Wendy Miller of Palmyra; David Nelson and wife Terry of Gerradstown, WV; Kevin Nelson of Canaan; Mark Nelson and wife Sharyl of Denver, CO - four daughters, Sheryl Durkee and husband, Kevin, of Jonesport; Robin Randall and companion Adam Willette of Plymouth; Holly Brown and husband David of Palmyra; Julie Edmonson and husband Larry of Sumerduck, VA. Bob is also survived by his siblings Charles, Jack and Sudie all of Palmyra; his brother in-law and sister in-law Gerald and Margery Robinson of Hartland as well as 26 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Bob will be held at the Riverside cemetery in Newport on Wednesday, July 9th at 2:00 PM with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan & Scott's Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan.

Edelgard Phelps

PALMYRA - Edelgard Phelps, 72, died June 27, 2008 at a Pittsfield healthcare facility. She was born April 5, 1936 at Mainz-Kostel, Germany a daughter of Peter Adam and Margaret (Gruitman) Steyer. She married Raymond Phelps in 1954 in Germany, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. Although she was not able to accompany him to the United States until they were reunited in New York City Thanksgiving Day 1955. They both worked at the Roland Buck Potato and Dairy Farm on the Exeter Road in Corinna. She was later employed at Striar’s Woolen Mill and Snowflake Canning Company in Corinna. She also worked at Clark’s Motel in Newport, the Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility in Pittsfield, and retired from Dexter Shoe Company in Newport. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond, Sr. of Palmyra; a son Raymond, Jr. and wife Susan Phelps of Newport; a daughter and husband, Monica and Kirk Clark of Newport; 2 grandchildren, Tarsha Rideout and Camden Clark. Edelgard was predeceased by a sister, Hohanna Klick in 1991. Friends called from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services were held 1 PM Wednesday, July 2nd, with the Rev. Matthew Ward officiating. Burial was in Corinna Center cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 170 U.S. Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105. .
