Mae M. Rines

PITTSFIELD - Mae M. Rines, 85, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at her home in Pittsfield.
She was born in Fairfield, Maine, on March 29, 1924, the daughter of Clifford and Hazel (McLeod) Steeves. She was one of 12 children and was educated in Pittsfield schools. Mae married Wallace Rines on November 8, 1941, and together they raised 4 daughters.
Mae had been employed for many years in the local shoe industry. She also worked for the woolen mill in Pittsfield and the Edwards Company. After retiring, she did some part time employment at the local Dunkin Donuts.
Mae enjoyed attending the Church of the Nazarene in Pittsfield. She was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved to cook for her family and made a special salad dressing that nobody could seem to copy. She was thrifty with her finances and very giving to others in need. She liked putting puzzles together and having them framed as gifts to her loved ones. She also enjoyed knitting, bowling, golfing and making crafts.
She is survived by her children; Janice Cookson of Pittsfield, Marjorie Maloon and her husband, Ted, of Detroit, Tamara Brooks and her husband, Keith, of East Sullivan, NH and LaLonnie Rines of Pittsfield; 8 grandchildren, Richard, Lisa, Troy, Todd, Keith, Jr., Kevin, Kristin and Cyreanne; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Steeves of Florida and Norman Steeves of Pittsfield; a sister, Barbara Steeves of SC and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace Rines, lovingly known as Buddy, in 2003 and 8 siblings.
The family received friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm with a memorial service that followed at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 16, 2010, with the Rev. Pete Griffin at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield.
Care for the Rines family has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

Mace R. McKinney Jr.

PALMYRA - Mace R. McKinney Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on December 25, 2009. Rod, as he was know to friends and family, was born in Los Angeles, CA on march 3, 1928 to Mace R. and Ruth (Pego) McKinney Sr.
He grew up in Los Angeles and in 1948 he met and married Donna M. London of Sherman. They raised 2 children in Whittier, CA with frequent trips to Maine. In 1971 Rod and Donna moved to Colfax, CA. They lived there until 1984 and retired in Sherman. There Rod was active in golf, snow sleddin and town committees. He enjoyed traveling, entertaining, learning new things and building his home. In 2005 after the death of his bride of 57 years Rod came to live with his daughter, Candace McCauslin and her husband, Dale in Palmyra.
He is survived by his grandson, Bret Lash and his wife, Christine of Hudgon, granddaughter, Amy Zaffiro and her husband, Terrence and their 3 daughters, Macee, Clarice and Abigail; son-in-law, Dale McCauslin; a special woman, Jennifer Boyd who helped take care of him throughout the last months of his life. He is predeceased by his son, Mace "Rodd" McKinney III in 1969; his wife, Donna in 2005 and his beloved daughter, Candace McCauslin in 2008. Rod continued to live in Palmyra with his granddaughter, Amy and her family until his death.
Rod would like to thank Paige Cunningham of Sherman for all her help and he would like to thank the many people at the Iris Foundation for their help and services with his blindness.
Rod will be greatly missed by all that knew him, There will be no services per his request; however, you many make donation in his name to the Iris Foundation, c/o Contributions Office, 189 Park Avenue, Portland, ME 04102 or to the Pine Tree Society, P.O. Kathleen M. Hudson

PITTSFIELD - Kathleen M. Hudson, 83, died, Monday, January 11, 2010, in Plymouth.
She was born in Bristol, NB, on July 30, 1926, the daughter of Gideon and Martha (Pelkey) Brooks. She married Chester L. Hudson and they had three children.
She worked for many years in the local woolen mills and also at Eastern Maine Medical Center as a dietician. She enjoyed crocheting and playing the piano. She attended Deeper Life in Pittsfield for many years under the care of Rev. Millard Dickinson. She was a happy-go-lucky person and loved being surrounded by her large extended family.
She is survived by her two children, Ralph Phillips and his wife, Gina, of Pittsfield, Linda Batchelder and her husband, Ellery, of Hermon; 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chester; a daughter, Carol Hudson; a granddaughter, Katrina Phillips and a great grandson, Richard Batchelder, Jr.
A private family service will be held in the spring at the Detroit Village cemetery, Route 220, in Detroit.

Joyce A. Davis

DEXTER - Joyce A. Davis, 63, died July 26, 2010 at her residence. She was born August 27, 1946 in Dexter, a daughter of Merville and Carlene (Frautten) Webber.
She is survived by a daughter, Julie Gudroe; grandson, Brandon Emerson; 3 brothers, Elwood Clapp and Gus and Brian Webber; and 3 sisters, Barbie Collins, Darlene Hill and Sandra Brockway.
There will be no services at this time; however, the family invites relatives and friends for an afternoon of refreshments and shared memories of Joyce at 3 PM Saturday, August 7th at the residence of Steve Wilbur, 101 Number Ten Road, Dexter.

H. Wesley Post

ST. ALBANS - H. Wesley Post, 84, husband of Lorraine (Elliott) Post, went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2010 in St. Albans. He was born June 9, 1926 in Little Valley, NY, a son of Emery and Avis (Cromwell) Post.
The family moved back to Maine when he was 3 years old, grew up in Harmony, and graduated from Harmony High School. Wesley worked in the woods with his horses and farmed from a young age. He also was employed at various other occupations. He worked in a canning factory, a woolen mill, and drove a cattle truck, while maintaining the family farm. Wesley attended the Pleasant Street Christian Church in Corinna and had a quiet faith. He was a man of integrity who loved his family and enjoyed talking about the old days when life was simple. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of St. Albans, he is survived by 3 sons and their wives, Larry and Bonnie Post, Harlow and Jan Post, all of St. Albans, and Dale and Lumi Post of Rochester, NH; 3 daughters and their husbands, Donna and Louis Hansen of Jaffrey, NH, Cathy and Larry Witham of Plymouth, and Barbara and Gilbert Smith of Bradford; a brother, Richard and wife Dorothy Post of St. Albans and Chapel Hill, FL; 2 sisters, Crystal Webster of Lisbon Falls and Elizabeth Cheek of Westbrook; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 24th at the Pleasant Street Christian Church, St. Albans Road, Corinna, with the Rev. Michael Troyer officiating. Friends called from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery, Hartland. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Betty L. Lynch

GUILFORD - Betty L. (Emery) Lynch, 76, of Guilford passed away peacefully in her sleep at Dexter Health Care on 11/09/10 with her family at her side.
Betty was born on February 6th, 1934 in St. Albans, the daughter of Maurice and Evelyn (Bishop) Emery. She grew up in St. Albans and made a living for many years in local shoe factories and woolen mills. At age 60 Betty returned to school to study culinary arts. She graduated from W.C.T.C. and became a pastry chef. She took her trade to work at the Collins Corner Restaurant in Newport until it was later destroyed by fire. Betty took great pride in her large family and spent many hours knitting mittens and creating hundreds of needlework pieces. Her Chocolate Chip cookie recipe will live on forever.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, her husband James Lynch and a brother Galen Emery.
She is survived by her loving daughter Rhonda and husband Everett Mason of Guilford, her son Richard and wife Monique Smith of Wiscasset and a brother Ralph (Buster) Emery of St. Albans. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and their families. Abel Smith from Baton Rouge, LA. Terry Woodard and his fiance Jessica Harrington, Darren Woodard and his children Alaina & Isaac. Shawn Woodard and wife Debbie and children Nicholas, Jasmine & Courtland. Deanne Turek and husband Matt and children Matthew, Chelsea and Kaleb. Dean (Bucky) Bubar, his partner Gretchen Duplisea and children Kiyalynn, Detric and Jada Mae. Gary Mason and his fiance Brandy Hobbs and their son David. Betty also leaves behind extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins and her special "sister" and husband, Jack and Marilyn Glavine of Naples and special friends and staff of The Pleasant Meadows Estates in Dover-Foxcroft.
Betty was the heart of her family and will forever loved and missed.
A memorial service was held on November 20th, 2010 at 1 PM at the Abbott Evangelical Church in Abbott with the Rev. Ray Baless officiating.

Jeffrey A. Meagher

PLYMOUTH - Jeffrey A. Meagher, 38, died unexpectedly November 12, 2010 at a Houlton hospital. He was born February 19, 1972 in New Haven, CT, the son of Merlin and Lana (Sawyer) Meagher. He graduated from Nokomis Regional High in Newport.
Jeff worked in construction and masonry throughout the state of Maine. He loved camping and fishing with his daughters, his “3 blue-eyed blossoms”, NASCAR, and country music.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Cathy of Corinna; his mother of St. Albans; his paternal grandmother Laura Meagher of Hartland; his maternal grandmother Velma Sawyer of St. Albans; 3 daughters, Maygan Meagher of Etna, Joli Meagher of Verona Island, and Cassidy LaCroix of Newport; a step-brother Paul “Butch” and wife Vicki Patchell of Newport; sister Jennifer and husband Corey Lawler of Bangor; nephew Ryan Patchell of Newport; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his special friend Deb Reynolds of Newport. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Arnold Meagher and Maurice Sawyer, and an uncle Gary Meagher.
Friends called from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services were held at 11 AM Wednesday, November 17th, with Pastor Peter Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Corinna Center cemetery.

Ricky K. Gray

WINTERPORT - Ricky K. Gray, 58, of Winterport passed away and went to be with the Lord and his family on November 9, 2010 at Eastern Maine Medical Center. He fought a lifelong battle with kidney disease, and of late heart disease. He grew up and was raised by his grandparents Ken and Gwen Gray. Later on in life with his mother Marlene Gray. He went to Plymouth school and graduated from Nokomis Regional High in Newport. He worked with harness horses all his life until he could no longer do it. His all time favorite trainer was Bob Sumner who Rick worked with in the tracks of New England. He is survived by his aunt Peggy Gray of Troy, ME; Cousins and a lot of good friends, to many to mention all. He will be laid to rest at the Village cemetery in Pittsfield along side his mother. As of this time there will be no services. A graveside gathering will be disclosed at a later date by his friends Lee Bennett or James Tweedie. God speed Rick, Love Peggy

Opal E. Gray

NEWPORT - Opal Elizabeth Gray, 83, passed away November 5th, 2010 at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born July 2, 1927 in Blaine, a daughter of Gail Pierson and Marion Ada (Piper) Green. She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill, Class of 1945. On November 9, 1948 she was married to Carl E. Gray by the Rev. John Miller.
Opal had been employed at Friend and Friend, the Edward’s Company, Berry’s Village Shop, The Corner Store, and the Newport High School in the hot lunch program. She attended the People’s United Methodist Church in Newport. She was an avid reader, loved poetry, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and family gatherings especially, as she enjoyed her family the most.
Opal is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carl of Newport; 3 children, Larry Gray of Newport, Sherry Rogers and her companion Richard Kniffin of Corinna, Bonnie and husband Gil Levesque of Newport; a brother, Ronald Kinney of Avon, CT; 2 sisters, Wanda and husband Maynard Dahlgren of Pittsfield and Margaret Thompson of Suffield, CT; 2 special grandchildren, Tyler and Amber Levesque; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Karen Ann; a brother Wendell Green; a sister Ida Curtis; a sister-in-law Debbie Kinney; and a niece Patricia Jordan.
A celebration of her life was held at1 PM Saturday, November 13th, at the People’s United Methodist Church, 131 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. Burial was in the Riverside cemetery, Newport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union Street, Suite 220, Bangor, ME 04401; or to the People’s United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Cynthia Jones Hinckley

HOWARD, CO - Cynthia Jones Hinckley, 60, died peacefully at her home on November 6, 2010.
She is the daughter of Sumner and Barbara Jones of Pittsfield and sister to Nancy Fisk of St. Croix, Marjorie Scott of Athens, Priscilla Jones of Palmyra, and Dr. Betsy Wood of Avon Park, FL; two brothers, Rev. Scott Jones of Pittsfield and Mark Jones of Gorham. Four daughters, Jennifer Waterman and Sarah Hinckley of Sabattus, Hannah Flannery of Readfield, Emily Ellis of Dover-Foxcroft and seven grandchildren.
Plans for a service here are not yet complete. A full Obituary notice will follow at a later date.

Charlene W. Hight

DEXTER - Charlene W. Hight entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 04, 2010. Charlene was born in 1924 in Skowhegan, ME. Charlene and husband Douglas, who predeceased her in 1993, lived and raised their family in Dexter, ME. She worked in various Dexter restaurants and was well known for her apple squares. Her family remembers that the "cookie jar was always full". Charlene loved to take pictures especially of sunsets. She loved her dogs and carried a book of quips and quotes that she had collected.
She is survived by four sons, Mark and fiancé Judy Smith, Brent and soul-mate Evelyn Thayer, Dale and wife Lynn, Scott and wife Teddi. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, Karen Rollins, Yvonne Bateman and husband Richard, Daniel Hight and fiancé Natasha Korkowski, Tasha Ashon-Cudjiw and husband Emmanual, Ethan Hight, Tobias Hight, Erika Hight, and Jenna Steeves and husband Nicholas. She also leaves her 8 great grandchildren, Richie, Kris, Mahagony, Indigo, Malachi, Keegan, Sage and Irea. Charlene will be greatly missed by her family.

Ruth A. Garland

DEXTER AND PORTLAND - Ruth A. Garland, 94, died November 2, 2010, at a Dexter health care facility. She was born in Sangerville, September 5, 1916, daughter of Harry and Iva (Cleaves) Garland. She worked at J.J. Nissen Baking Company in Portland for 36 years. Ruth enjoyed gardening and spending time with her cats.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 2 brothers and their wives, Carl and Laura Garland and Aubrey and Charlotte Garland; and 2 sisters, Reba Richards and her husband, Dana, and Evelyn Garland.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM Monday, November 8, 2010, at Brook Lawn Memorial Park in Portland.
