Stephen Blaine Alley

TROY - It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved and devoted husband, Stephen Blaine Alley. He went home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2010, at U.C.L.A. Medical Center in Santa Monica, California, with his loving and devoted wife, Linda, and his stepson, John, by his side after a long and heroic battle with lung cancer and other medical issues. Steve left us the same way he lived his life, with pride, dignity and concern about others.
He was born on January 7, 1941, in Beverly, Massachusetts, the eldest son of the late Gordon and Arlene (Archer) Alley. He lived a very interesting and fulfilling life. His early education was in the local schools of Wenham and he graduated, first in his class, from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts.
Steve served eight years in the U.S. Air Force. He was licensed with the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ in 1969 and worked as a Sales Rep. at WE Hutton in Boston. He was also a Registered Realtor in Salem and in Beverly from 1971-1986. He opened and operated North Shore Travel Service and North Shore Cruise Specialist from 1977-1984.
He moved to Maine in 1986 where he built his home and settled in the community of Troy. He managed Miracle Ear in Bangor from 1992-1999. He was an Aflac Agent and a Medicare Advantage Insurance Agent. He was a great believer and very active in Civil Defense and was the chairman of the Civil Defense Preparedness Committee of the American Legion in Maine. He traveled to many states with the mobile steel shelter display. Steve was an Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Newport.
With his abundance of knowledge and unique personality, he touched the hearts and lives of many, many people. One of Steve’s dear and close friends always referred to him as “The Oracle”. Steve loved people and a good debate, no matter the topic. He got great pleasure out of sharing and helping others in any way he could, whether they were friends or strangers, in his eyes, they were his fellow man.
Steve enjoyed being outdoors, bow hunting, fishing, raising his geese, gardening, traveling, walking and sitting on the deck with his wife and friends. He also got great pleasure out of following the financial markets.
He was predeceased by his parents; his late wife, Ruth; and his precious furry, buddy, Brown Brown.
He leaves his loving and devoted wife, Linda, of Troy; his stepson, John Cann and his companion, Jill, of Halifax, N.S. Canada; his stepdaughter, Lynne Cann, of Kentville, N.S. Canada; his stepson, Doug Sanville and his wife, Debra, of Salem, Massachusetts; his daughter, Cindy Copp and her husband, Thom, of Grand Junction, Colorado; his son, Michael Alley of Danvers, Massachusetts; and his brother, Mark, of Manchester. He will also be missed by his very dear and close friends in the U.S.A and in Canada and by his new addition, Prancer, whom he adopted while in California.
Steve, God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so He put His arms around you and whispered, “Come to Me”. With tearful eyes I watched you pass away and although I love you I could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke my heart to prove to me, He only takes the best. Your loving wife, Linda.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 59 Libby Hill Road, in Newport. A reception will immediately follow at the Benjamin Berry American Legion Post 50, in Unity, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Benjamin Berry American Legion Post 50, PO Box 5, Unity, Maine, 04988 or to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 111 Pittsfield Avenue, Hartland, Maine, 04943, in Steve’s memory.
Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.
