William Henry Bird, Sr.

PLYMOUTH - William Henry Bird, Sr., 99, died October 24, 2011 in Bangor, surrounded by his family. He was born in Castle Hill on August 28, 1912, a son of Louis E. and Mabel (Webber) Bird.
He was educated at Madison and Corinna schools. He worked at the Corinna Woolen Mill and retired from dairy farming in the 1970s. He enjoyed watching sports and watching the grandchildren play. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and especially loved watching the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a past member of the Corinna Grange and the Dixmont Gold Crest Riders.
He is survived by his daughters, Sally Millett and Janet Godsoe, both of Newport; sisters, Kathleen "Jody" Leavitt of Skowhegan, and Pauline "Polly" Jude of Orrington; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Vornie E. (Bragdon) Bird; a daughter, Betty A. Erskine; a son, William H. Bird, Jr.; brothers, Alton and John Bird; and sisters, Thelma Boon, and Ruth E. Bird.
Friends and family called at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street in Newport, on Wednesday, October 26th, from 6 to 8 PM, and on Thursday, October 27th, from 1 to 2 PM, funeral services followed at 2 PM, with Pastor Robert Emrich officiating. Burial followed at the Sawyer cemetery in Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Trail Fund, Dixmont Gold Crest Riders, P.O. Box 13, Dixmont, ME 04932.

Vinal J. Porter, Jr.

TEWKSBURY, MA & St. Albans, ME - Vinal J. Porter, Jr. age 87, a resident of Tewksbury, MA for 65 years and a summer resident of St. Albans, ME for 8 years, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Emeritus assisted living facility of Tewksbury.
He was the beloved husband of Colleen (Wells) Porter, with whom he celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on September 16, 2011.
Born in Calais, ME on October 16, 1923, he was the son of the late Vinal J. Porter, Sr. and the late Hazel (Johnson) Porter. He was raised in Holton, ME, Manchester, NH, and Lowell, MA and graduated from Lowell High School. He later attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a pilot during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was employed as an Inventory Control Manager by the General Electric Company of Lynn. He was a member of the General Electric Apprentice Alumni.
Mr. Porter was an avid fly-fisherman and loved camping with his family for more than 30 years at the Matagamon Wilderness in Maine.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, Linda G. Savard and her husband Richard of Hardwick, MA, Roger W. Porter and his wife Diane of Londonderry, NH, Andrew P. Porter and his wife Ruth of Jackson, TN, Ted J. Porter and his wife Ruth-Ellen of Plymouth, ME, and Eric S. Porter and his wife Karen of Wilmington, MA; two brothers, Carlton Porter and his wife Dorothy of Topsfield, MA and Ronald Porter of Portland, ME; his sister-in-law, Ruth P. Porter of Charlton, MA; also 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 14 at 11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, Tewksbury, MA. A burial service was held on Saturday, October 22 at Liberty cemetery, Bethel Springs, TN. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

Beverly Ann Desmarais

DEXTER - Beverly Ann (Dexter) Desmarais, 74, passed away October 11, 2011 at Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center in Bangor. She was born in Paterson, New Jersey, June 13th 1937, a daughter of Perry and Vera (Bates) Dexter.
She grew up at Willoughby Lake and West Burke, VT. She attended Lyndon Institute and the Juilliard School for Voice in New York City before marrying Robert R. Desmarais in 1959. She worked for a period of time at the Tap and Dye in Lyndonville Vt. and later became a stay at home mom, caring for their three children. The family then re-located to Harmony, Maine in 1973. She enjoyed working in her greenhouse, snowmobiling, traveling, doing puzzles, Popham Beach, and especially loved her Siamese cats.
Beverly is survived by her two daughters, Valerie Desmarais of West Burke, Vt, Sharon Mountain and her husband, Ray of Dexter; a son, Robert of Dexter; a sister, Florence Grant; 4 grandchildren, Hillary Davies of Kenduskeag, Robbie Desmarais of Maryland, Michael Mountain of Corinna and Matthew Mountain of Ripley; two great grandchildren, Connor Christian Davies and Colin Matthew Mountain, as well as several nieces and nephews. Beverly is also remembered by her special cat, Carly.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert and her sister Valerie.
The family wishes to thank Mayo Regional Hospital and their social services office as well as the staff at East Side Rehabilitation and Living Center in Bangor for their care and assistance for Beverly during her last few weeks of life.
Private burial will be in the family lot, Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Dexter.

Frank W. McGraw, Jr.

HARTLAND - Frank W. McGraw Jr, 55, died, Wednesday, September 28, 2011, in Hartland, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 4, 1956, in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of the late Frank and Betty (Hunt) McGraw Sr.
Frank attended Hartland schools and had been employed by Agway, Irving Tanning and Knight’s Roofing. He enjoyed being at home, cooking his famous baked beans and chili and keeping his place neat and clean. He liked being with friends, he enjoyed fishing and even taught his daughter Tina to chop wood.
He is survived by his many siblings and their families; Fred, Sandra, Joane, Peggy, Fern, Patty, Becky, Diane, Mary and Micky; three daughters, Tina, Tammy and Tonia; grandchildren, Dustin, Cody, Makenzie, Mikayla, Tyler, Tasha and Teisha; stepdaughters, Janet and Belinda; special nephew, Chris; special niece, Jessica and her son, Matthew; special friends, Jack Bernard, John Turgeon, Jigs and Michele, Crystal Cloutier, Tony and Bree, and Matt Moran; and his pets, Spaz and Pee Wee.
He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved brother, Patrick McGraw.
A private graveside service was held at the Pine Grove cemetery, Route 152, in Hartland.
Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

Msgt (Ret) Ricky L. Ouellette

DeFuniak Springs, FL and Palmyra - Msgt (Ret) Ricky L. Ouellette, 57, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 19, 2011 at his home in DeFuniak Springs, FL. He served in the US Air Force 24 years, retiring from active duty in 1997 at Eglin AFB, FL. He served at Davis Monthan AFB, AZ; Erhac, Turkey; Hill AFB, UT and Loring AFB, ME.
Born February 4, 1954 in Bangor, ME, he was the beloved son of Irene Blanchette and the late Emilian Ouellette. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, Crestview, FL; son Rodney (Carol) Mooers, San Antonio, TX; and daughter Tiffany (Dominique) Roberts, Pensacola, FL; sisters Shirley Adams (Royce Ludden), Palmyra, ME, and Twilda (Bruce) Shameklis, Agawam, MA; brothers Danny Ouellette, Waterville, ME and Randy Ouellette of DeFuniak Springs, FL; and grandchildren Dakota, Aaron, Hunter, Kaitlyn and Brady.
Ricky enjoyed working on many self-help projects for family, friends and neighbors. He always was the one to jump in and take care of anything. Ricky was a man of few words, but with a giant heart that never stopped loving.

Minnie M. Kimball

CORINNA & EXETER - Minnie M. Kimball, 76, died September 12, 2011 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born October 28, 1934 in St. Albans a daughter of Leon and Maude (Raymond) Bryant.
She had been employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna. Minnie enjoyed walking, cross stitching, flower gardens, country music shows, bird watching and spending time with family. She will be remembered by her family as the best Mommy in the world.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marilyn and Norman Pearl, Wannita and Raymond Crocker, Kennith and Carol Kimball; her ex-husband and friend, Malcolm Kimball; a brother, Ernest Bryant and companion Joanne Bowley; a sister, Phylis Archepette; grandchildren, Misty and husband Aaron Reynolds, Ashley Kimball and companion Justin Bell; Aaron Kimball and Mckaila Kimball, and John Badger; great grandchildren, Aaron Kimball, Jr., Deaken Cousins, Connor Bell, and Daxton Reynolds; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Nancy and James Crocker, Jeannie Bryant, DeWayne and Terry Cossar; and her dog J.D. She was predeceased by a son, Merrill Kimball; and a sister Orissa Prescott.
Friends called from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, September 15th at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. A graveside funeral service was held 11 AM on Friday at the Crowell cemetery, Cider Hill Road, Exeter, Reverend Will Walters officiating. David Lester Wyman

GARLAND - David Lester Wyman passed away at his home on Sunday, September 11, 2011, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 1, 1943, in Augusta, the son of Lester and Mildred (Knowles) Wyman. Throughout the years Dave enjoyed his racing cars, camping trips, fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, gardening, and trips to Fryeburg Fair. Toward the end he loved to watch his nephew, Chance, pull horses. But his greatest joy came from being around people and always having a way to make that person laugh and smile.
Dave was a hardworking man for many years. He worked at Prouty Ford for 12 years; he was a teacher at the Dexter Regional Vocational Technical School for 25 years. He owned and operated his own construction business for 25 years before retiring.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jody (Lessard) Wyman of Garland; son, David Wyman, and his wife, Aimee, and grandchildren, Ryan and Morgann Wyman, all of Ripley; son, Tony Wyman, and his wife, Kim and grandchildren, Lindsey and Korie, all of Florida; daughter, DeeDee Kupferer and her husband, Mike, and grandchildren, Mike and Lisa, all of Florida.
He is also survived by four brothers, Richard and his wife, Dianne, from Kentucky, Norman and his wife, Marsha, Melvin and his wife, Cathy, and Roger and his wife, Judy, all of Dexter; three sisters, Judy “Gaga” Garneau of Dexter, Geraldine Rizzitello and her husband, William, of Guilford, and Barbara Marshall and her husband, Gerry, of Corinna; two sisters-in-law, Vickie Easler, and Donna Spack and her husband, Ziggy, all of Guilford; brother-in-law, Allen Lessard, and his wife, Cheryl, of Madison; a "special" Uncle Wilfred Hensbee of Madison; and many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews whom he loved dearly. He will be remembered by many close friends whom he loved very much: Buzzy Chabot and his wife, Lorie, and daughter, Kimmie, and the Chabot family; Stewart Hopkins and family; Bob and Sharon Bradford; Gary and Tina Santos; Bub and Shannan Hall and family; Robby and Tammy Beem and family; Katie Hall, who called him "Papa Troll"; and many friends he held dear to his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, his younger brother, Mark, and his fishing buddy and best friend, Gary Garneau.
At his request, there will be no visiting hours. Services at Mount Pleasant cemetery, Dexter, were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th, 2011, in the family lot. After the service, family and friends were invited to gather at the family residence in Garland. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to either the Garland Fire Department, Rt. 94, Garland 04939, or to the Garland Public Library, Rt. 94, Garland 04939. Gloria M. (Brooks) White

PITTSFIELD - Gloria M. (Brooks) White, 73 of Pittsfield, lost her battle with cancer Tuesday, September 6, 2011. She was born to the late Ina and Alfred Brooks, December 3, 1937 in Pittsfield, ME. Gloria had a few different jobs, the latest being homecare. She enjoyed being home sitting on her porch visiting with family and friends. She was predeceased by daughter, Wendi White, 3 sisters, Shirley Garnett, Muriel Wade, Carolyn Starbird. She is survived by loving husband of 54 years, David L. White; son, Davey White and friend Toni Lary, daughter, Lecia and husband Dale Wilson, son, Greg and wife Terry White; 8 grandchildren, Honesty and Delight Cook, Kyla Simard, Hannah and Ethan White, Brandon Wilson, Katie and O’Bryan White; 7 great grandchildren, Justyce and Hart St. Clair, Autumn, Sophie and Lorelai Simard. Eliza and Emma Curtis. Sister Virginia Morrison; 2 brothers, Bob and Leland Brooks. Many nieces and nephews. She was a special lady loved by all, and will be sadly missed. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Freeman A. Rollins, Jr.

FAIRFIELD - Freeman A. Rollins, Jr., 79, died peacefully on Friday, September 2, 2011, in Waterville.
He was born on September 25, 1931, in Burnham, Maine, the son of Freeman and Alice (Goodrich) Rollins Sr.
Freeman was employed for 35 years with the State of Maine Department of Transportation. He was a member of Meridian Lodge #125 A.F. & A.M. of Pittsfield and a member of the Maine Harness Association of Augusta. His favorite hobby was raising standard breed horses; Two of his favorites being J.B.C. Baby and Knightly Baron. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He always loved a good joke and enjoyed teasing his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth Rollins of Fairfield; three children, Paula Salley and husband, Steven, of Pittsfield, Pat Roberts and husband, Ed, of New York and Scott Rollins of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Chris McManus and his partner, Baju Wijono, of New York, Mark McManus and wife, Jillian, of North Carolina, Lisa Salley Erhardt and husband, Mark, of Orono and Joey Salley and wife, Lee Ann, of Pittsfield; three great grandsons, Shane McManus, Brody McManus, both of North Carolina and Emmett Salley of Pittsfield; two sisters, Ruth Wells of Pittsfield and Edith Gamblin and husband, Walter, of Pittsfield; one brother, Gary Rollins and wife, Beverly, of Pittsfield; sister-in-law, Mary Tobey of Arlington, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Freeman and Alice Rollins; and two brothers, Carlton and Carl.
The family would like to especially thank the nurses of 3 North at Thayer Hospital for their tender loving care and also say a special thank you to the staff at Evergreen who were wonderful to Freeman.
A Celebration of Life with a Masonic Service was held at 10:30, Monday, September 5th, 2011, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield with the Pastor Mark Rollins.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Scarborough, Maine, 04074.
Care for the family has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

Marjorie (Humphrey) West

NEWPORT - Marjorie West, 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior September 1, 2011. She was born March 22, 1912 in Washburn, a daughter of William and Violet (Sperry) Humphrey. She had been employed as a short order cook in area restaurants, and later, as a handsewer in area shoe shops. She became a member of the original church, Newport House of Prayer, currently known as the Jubilee Family Worship Center. She is survived by 3 sons, Maurice and wife Janice West of Sebago, Robert West of Hartland, and William West of Bucksport; a daughter, Prudence Larouche of Newport; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Perley.
A memorial service was held 3 PM Saturday, September 10th at the Jubilee Family Worship Center, 163 Elm Street, Newport, with the Rev. Scott Black officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.

PITTFIELD - Dennis A. Moody, 21, died, Sunday, August 28, 2011, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, in Bangor. He was born on December 1, 1989, in Waterville, Maine, the son of David and Laure’ (Kasprzak) Moody.
Dennis graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 2008. He enjoyed playing sports especially soccer and was a good athlete. He enlisted in the USMC for a short time with an honorable discharge. He loved his children, his family, dancing, peanut butter, singing, ketchup and teddy bears. He was very social, a faithful friend and an exceptional brother. He was an individual who was both charming and outgoing. His entertaining personality made laughing inevitable.
He is survived by his three children, Cayden, Kelsey and Dawson; his parents, David and Laure’ Moody of Pittsfield; two brothers, Sgt. Kevin Moody and his wife, Sgt. Kandy Moody, of North Carolina and AFC Andrew Moody of Italy; two sisters, Brianne Moody and Erin Moody; grandparents, George and Leola Moody of Pittsfield; grandmother, Margaret Kasprzak of Palmyra; special uncle and aunt, Jeff and Sandra Perkins of St. Albans; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and special friends, Hilary Bickford, Nicole Shaw and Heather White.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Adam Kasprzak.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 2nd, 2011, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 238 Detroit Avenue, Pittsfield, with Father Kent Ouellette officiating. A committal immediately followed at the Village cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, in Pittsfield. A gathering followed at the St. Agnes Parish Center.
Care for the family has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.
