Patricia A. Killam

PITTSFIELD - Patricia A. Killam, 81, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 21, 2011. She was born July 25, 1929 in Danvers, MA, a daughter of William and Glenice (Avery) Lord. She graduated from Hartland Academy, Class of 1947.
She was a member of the St. Albans Union Church from childhood through high school and also attended Bible study. Pat was very active in school playing softball at second base and loving it. She also enjoyed Basketball, Glee Club, French Club, Dramatic Class, Student Council, Class Treasurer, Prize Speaking and the Senior Play. Her Senior Yearbook had this to say! “Pat loves everything but school, roller skating, ice skating, dancing, and basketball games all rate high on her list of activities.” We all love to tease her about her red hair, and sometimes the temper that matches it arises. Pat also keeps us posted on all the local news. She cheerfully does everything we ask her to do. Good luck to a grand sport and classmate." (Actually she also did very well in school)
Soon after, she met, fell in love and married Ernest Killam. They had two children, Duane Lee and Cassie Lynn and made their home in Pittsfield.
Pat had many jobs throughout the years and was always a hard and earnest worker. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, gramma and great gramma (also known as GG). She was always full of life, loved to have fun and always enjoyed a good prank! In recent years, she loved family, playing games, was an avid bingo player and always enjoyed watching church services on television.

She was predeceased by her husband Ernest in 1996.

A favorite poem:

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave, when this life is done."

We rejoice with our beloved Pat today as she is now in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on July 23rd at the Pittsfield Village cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Feed the Children, P. O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101 (www.feedthechildren.org). Those who wish may leave written tributes at www.CrosbyNeal.com

Carlton F. "Bud" Siegmund

DETROIT - Carlton F. "Bud" Siegmund, 89, of Detroit, Maine, passed away June 16, 2011 in Helena, Montana. Dad was born August 16, 1921 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, son of the late Fred and Alice Siegmund. He attended Asbury Park High School where he graduated in 1939. Dad loved baseball, but, as he said, when everybody figured out he couldn’t hit the curve, he embarked on a lifelong involvement with track and field. After high school, he moved to Ohio to learn aircraft mechanics at Wright Patterson Field, and joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He became a propeller mechanic at the rank of staff sergeant, stationed with the 9th Army Air Force in England, France and Belgium. Dad was proud of his service, convinced that the war was won in no small part by sergeants wheeling and dealing under the radar to make sure their guys got what they needed. After his discharge in 1946 he attended Murray State University in Kentucky, where he met Martha Owsley on a blind double date. They married in 1948, and Dad was crazy about her for the following 56 years. After graduating, Dad attended graduate school at Indiana University and taught in Kentucky and Missouri. After a stint teaching and coaching at Lincoln College in Illinois, the family, which by that time included two sons, relocated to the Jersey shore in 1959. Dad and Mom found teaching jobs, and were the first married couple allowed to teach together at Long Branch High School. Dad, a man of infinite patience and charm, taught driver's education for most of his career at Long Branch. More important, Dad was a track coach, both during his teaching career and at Colby College in Waterville, Maine for ten years after his retirement. His coaching abilities and personality were important influences on countless young men and women for over 40 years. He and mom were rather adventurous for the time, as reflected in that 1962 trip from New Jersey to the Seattle World's Fair in a modified Ford van. Dad was also an outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing of all sorts, from the stripers on the Jersey shore to the bass in the Kentucky Lakes to the rainbow trout in Montana. Dad got his pilot's license in the 1970s, and was an avid amateur pilot for some 20 years. He and mom traveled extensively during their retirement, visiting the grandkids in Kentucky and Montana, taking several trips to England and Europe, and dragging the trailer and the Weimaraner to their favorite place, Prince Edward Island. After Mom passed in 2004, Dad, as always, simply did what needed to be done, taking over the cooking and household chores by himself at the age of 83! At the age of 87 his health began to fail, so he left Maine to hang around with his younger son in Montana. He was last seen sitting in his recliner, drinking a milkshake, watching a baseball game. Dad was an exceptional man, just ask anybody who knew him. We will miss him deeply. The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the folks at the Aspen Gardens assisted living facility in Helena, Montana for keeping Dad safe and well-fed for the past 18 months. Dad is survived by a sister, Jane Buy of Raeford, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Jessica Siegmund of Cadiz, KY, and Bruce and Carol Siegmund of Helena, MT. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Amber Siegmund of Cadiz, KY, Ashley Broad of Boise, ID, Carlton F. Siegmund II of Spokane, Washington and Deanna Siegmund, of Bellevue, Washington; and three great-grandchildren; Jesse Siegmund, Mary Robison, and Malakai Broad.
