ALTA CARTER

DEXTER - Alta C. Carter, 84, died January 12, 2013 at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft. Alta was born in Centerville, N.B. Canada on March 16, 1928, the youngest of eleven children and last surviving child of Frank and Mary (Peterson) Crouse. Alta worked for many years in area shoe factories until her retirement. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Dexter where she enjoyed being involved in church activities, bible studies at her home, and baking pies for church dinners in her younger years. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, and working in her flower gardens. Alta and Ed enjoyed the summer months taking trips on their motorcycle. She is survived by her two daughters, Karan Sleight and Mary Kennedy and her partner Kevin Thibeault; a grandson, Troy Nightingale and his wife Sheri, and their sons, Brad, Tyler, Kyle, and Shawn; a granddaughter, Kim Polichak and her partner Joe Hanscom, and their children Carter, Trenton, and Tessa, all of Dexter; as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Maine. She will also be missed by her constant companion, her loving dog, Tessie. Alta was predeceased by her husband, Ed Carter of Dexter, in 1992. She was also predeceased by seven sisters, Kathryn Prosser, Idella Page, Teresa Staples, Inez Orser, Wyonita Hayward, Beatrice Giberson, and Lois Crouse; and three brothers, Gerald Crouse, Halton Crouse, and Clayton Crouse, all of Canada. Alta's family would like to thank the staff at Hibbard Nursing Home for the excellent care and thoughtfulness they provided to her, doing everything in their power to make her comfortable during her stay. Family and friends called from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St. in Dexter. Funeral services were held at 1 PM on Wednesday, January 16th at the New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Will Walters officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.
In Alta's memory, donations may be made to the Dexter Community Food Closet, c/o New Hope Baptist Church, 130 Spring St., Dexter, ME 04930.

JEANNETTE TEMPLE

NEWPORT - Jeannette Anita Temple, 97, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 11, 2013 after a brief illness with family by her side. Jeannette was born July 7, 1915 in Oakland, Maine the daughter of Harry and Clara (Thibodeau) Lessard. Jeannette, along with her three sisters, was educated at St. Joseph’s Academy in South Berwick, a convent run by the Sisters of St. Joseph from Lyon, France. As a young woman Jeannette was an active member of local figure skating clubs that performed throughout the northeast. Highlights included skating at The Boston Garden and Rockefeller Center. She lived most of her life in the central Maine communities of Waterville, Pittsfield, Corinna, St. Albans and Newport. For many years she and her husband owned and operated a poultry farm in Corinna. Jeannette was loved by all who knew her, and she made many lasting friends. Important in her life was her love for her family and her faith in the Lord which provided her much comfort and helped to sustain and enrich her life. A wonderful cook and homemaker, Jeannette enjoyed flower gardening, embroidery and knitting, fashion, car trips, and a great buy at a yard sale. The photo above was taken of Jeannette at Christmas of 2012. She was predeceased by loving husband Floyd Temple; a daughter Susan Toulouse; and siblings Morton Lessard, Marcinette LaVerdiere, Carmen Tibbetts, and Hope Butler. She is survived by 2 sons, Edward E. Toulouse and his wife Judith of Plymouth and James Toulouse and his wife Alexandra of Cape Elizabeth; a daughter Rosalie Gordon and her husband Thomas of Newport; grandchildren, Suzanne Satterfield and her husband Joe of Bowdoinham, Edward J. Toulouse and his wife Tiffany of Plymouth, Emily Toulouse, Laura Iwane and her husband Naoki all of New York City, Rachel Clukey and her husband Thomas of Westbrook; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Private graveside funeral and committal services will be held in the spring at Palmyra Village cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

DONALD PELKIE

HARTLAND - Donald J. Pelkie, 92, passed away Tuesday, January 15th at a Pittsfield health care facility with his loving family by his side. He was born September 23, 1920 on the farm in Hartland, a son of Emerson and Iva (Dickinson) Pelkie, Sr.
He attended schools in Hartland and married the love of his life, Glenice Perkins. He was a hard worker all his life, including 43 years at Irving Tanning, 35 of which were as a foreman. Over the years, in his “spare time”, he farmed, cut wood, sold bottled gas, aluminum windows, doors and siding. He also served on the Hartland Board of Selectmen from 1950-1957. Donald had a great passion for gardening and watching vegetables and flowers grow. He filed saws for many folks in the area as a hobby.
He is survived by three daughters, Gloria Pelkie of Hartland, Donna Pelkie of Augusta, and Jacqueline Brooks and husband Foster of Hartland; a sister, Joyce Halford of Hartland; four grandchildren, the Rev. Kevin Brooks and wife Tammi, Dawn Butler and husband Randy, Richard Brooks and wife Kim, and Lt. Col. Mark Brooks and wife Sarah; eight great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Alethea Schanz and husband Stephen, Thaddeus, Benjamin, Kyle, Jacob, Julia, and Hope; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Glenice; parents Emerson Pelkie, Sr. and Iva Pelkie Ordway; brothers Emerson Jr. and Kenneth, and sisters Doris Emery, Jennie Howard, Marguerite Mills, Kathleen Pelkie, and Jean Chadbourne; and great grandson Zachary.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, including a very special lady in his life, Ethel Taylor. He will also be missed by a dear friend Byron Ballard, Jr. who drove him to many appointments, or just took him for a ride or out for lunch. Donald had a special love for his dog Max, who was always by his side. Donald adored his granddaughter Dawn and her husband Randy who were always there and did so much for him behind the scenes. The family wishes to express special thanks to the workers of Care and Comfort, especially Sheila and Haley, whose care allowed Donald to stay at home for the last year of his life.
A spring graveside service will be held at Pine Grove cemetery, Route 152, Hartland, with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.

NELSON OUELLETTE

PITTSFIELD - Nelson M. Ouellette, Sr. 84, passed away on January 10, 2012 at a Pittsfield Health Care facility. Born October 5, 1928 in Eagle Lake to Arthur & Esther (Mercier) Ouellette. In 1946 Nelson started employment with the A&P Tea Company. After retiring from the grocery business in 1972, he had been involved in housing construction. Medical conditions forced his retirement in 2010. Nelson is survived by five sons; Nelson Jr. and wife Carol, Gary, Arthur and wife Susan, Kenneth and wife Cindy, Brandon and companion Lorie Neal, one daughter; Andrea McCannell and husband Aaron. Also surviving are brothers James and wife Patricia, Merlon and wife Cheryl, Roland and wife Sharon, two sisters Jeannette Chandler and Joan Surh, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nelson was pre-deceased by his parents and one brother, Wilson. Funeral services will be held at St. Agnus Catholic Church, Pittsfield, on Saturday, January 26, 2012 at 10 AM with a reception to follow.

CHARLOTTE TEMPLE

PALMYRA - Charlotte B. Temple, 80, died peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013, in Waterville. Charlotte was born in East Madison, Maine, a daughter of Harold and Hildreth (Libby) Whitney Sr and attended East Madison schools. She was employed as a nurse’s assistant for many years both at Crestwood and Sanfield Rehabilitation in Hartland. She spent countless hours helping her sister Thelma care for people in her boarding home. She was gathered to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in Palmyra, Maine where she enjoyed fellowship for many years. Charlotte enjoyed sewing, gardening and taking care of her loved ones. She will be remembered most for her hosting, cooking and sharing coffee with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed the company of the young people from the gathering as they sang hymns while visiting with her at her home. She is survived by her son, Harold (Hadley) Buker and wife Ella of Hartland; children by marriage, Eugenia Clukey and husband Michael of Sangerville, Pamela Powers and husband Jim of Etna, Valerie Salisbury of Winthrop, Bonnie Veins of Waterville and Johnny Buker of Hartland; grandchildren, Bernie Buker and wife Angie, Betsy Coots and husband Shawn, Crystal Moore, Heather Jacobson and husband Sande, Sabrina Ivory and husband Jimmy, Jamie Powers, George Furlong IV, and Heidi Furlong; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Hubbard of Unity and Vertina (Pearl) Jones of St. Albans; brothers, Harold Whitney Jr and wife Anita of St. Albans and Reginald Flewelling of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband, Royce Temple; and a son, George Furlong III. A special thank you to her sister Thelma who lived with and cared for her tenderly this past year. A memorial service was held at 1 PM on Wednesday, January 16 at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield, Maine. A gathering followed at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the spring at the Village cemetery on Warren Hill Road in Palmyra. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union Street, Bangor, Maine 04401. Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.

ROBERT FRAPPIER SR.

STETSON - Robert G. Frappier, Sr., 73, died January 16, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. He was born July 21, 1939 in Worcester, Massachusetts, a son of George and Helen (Stolberg) Frappier.
Robert was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Exeter and the Good Sam Club. He helped found the Penobscot Long Rifle Black Powder Club and owned and operated Townfarm Gun Shop in Stetson with his son Robert, Jr. His sons would like to acknowledge their father’s active participation in their lives teaching them life and occupational skills, enabling them to all build their own homes.
He is survived by his wife Ellen (Born) of Stetson; 3 sons, Robert and wife Helen Frappier, Jr. of Bangor, Michael and wife Bobette Frappier of Hermon, and Richard Frappier, Sr. of Strong; 2 step-sons and their wives, William and Debra Reichert of Eliot and Gene and Fran Reichert of Holyoke, MA; a step-daughter, Lisa and husband Gerald Epp of Mechanicsville, MD; 2 brothers and their wives, Frank and Lynn Frappier of Homestead, CA and Hank and Roxanne Frappier of Troy, TX; a sister, Christine and husband Gordon Horne of W. Greenwich, RI; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday, January 25th at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Stan Griffin officiating. Spring burial will be in Clark’s Hill cemetery, Stetson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Penobscot Long Rifle Black Powder Club, c/o Jeff Durkee, 184 Stetson Road, Stetson, ME 04488.

Roger Lander Simpson

CORINNA - Roger Lander Simpson, 91, passed away January 4th, 2013 at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft after a brief illness. He was born February 17th, 1921 in Corinna, the son of Herbert and Edna (Lander) Simpson in the house where he spent his entire life. Roger graduated from Corinna Union Academy class of 1940 and on June 1st, 1945 married Muriel I. French. Roger held several jobs throughout the years, one of which was as substitute mail carrier, but his greatest joy was carrying on his father’s legacy as a Dairy Farmer, which he then carried on with his son.
Roger is survived by two children, a daughter Alice M. Duthie of Augusta and her friend, Steve Cogswell of Freeport; a son, Ronald H. Simpson Sr. and wife, Beth of Corinna; six grandchildren, Debbie Duthie of Augusta, Amy Webster of Old Orchard Beach, Adam Wyman and wife Kristen of Cambridge, Sarrah, Samantha and RJ Simpson of Corinna, four great grandchildren, Katie, Colby, Hunter and Emma; nephews, Kenneth and Keith Veazie; a special nephew, Eric Libby and several nieces and nephews; a brother in law, John French and wife, Charlene of Atkinson; a son in law, Thomas Wyman of Biddeford and many other extended family members. Roger was predeceased by his wife, Muriel, a daughter, Althea, a son in law, George R. Duthie, two sisters, Christine and Phyllis and a brother, Robert .
Roger along with his stories and wit will be greatly missed by his many friends and family including Elmer and Ann Zimmerman, Phil and Georgia Cossar, Arlene Hersey, Suzanna, Catherine and Karen Martin and Roger’s dog, Dick.
Those who wish may make donations to their local animal shelter or the Humane Society. Thank you to the staff of Mayo Hospital for their care and assistance.
A graveside memorial service was held at the Corinna Center cemetery, 1 PM Saturday, January 12th, 2013 with Pastor Sam McKeen of Cambridge officiating. Following the service, friends and relatives were invited to the farm for a time of refreshment and fellowship. Cathy J. Elderkin

PARKMAN - Cathy J. Elderkin, 56, died December 18, 2012, at her home in Parkman. She was born November 25, 1956, in Dover-Foxcroft, daughter of Arthur and Boneta (Morrill) Bailey.
She graduated from PCHS, class of 1975, and lived all of her life in Parkman and was an active member of the Parkman Grange.
Over the years she had worked as a waitress at various restaurants and also worked as a seamstress for Delongs and Creative Apparel. She owned the family business, Bailey Construction, with her husband and son before retiring to the simple life in her comfy cabin in the woods.
Cathy had a love for life. She lived life to its fullest. She enjoyed motorcycle rides with her husband, riding horses, taking care of and spending time with her barnyard buddies. Singing around the campfire seemed to be a favorite for her. She loved having large gatherings with family and friends and was one of the first people to organize a benefit if there was someone in need. Most of all she loved her husband, children and grandchildren. They were the light of her life as she was theirs. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She touched many lives and her memory will live on in all of us.
She is survived by her husband, David W. Elderkin; a son, Seth Elderkin and his wife, Tricia of Parkman; a daughter, Stacie Cole and her husband, Derek, and Shannon Noyes and her husband, Joe all of Parkman; 8 grandchildren, Bailey, Austin, Quentin, Kaileigh, Heston, Kadyn, Mitchel, Lexi; close friends, Rocky and Dean Rideout form Dover-Foxcroft.
She was predeceased by her parents, and an infant brother, Arthur.
No public services are planned at this time.

Irvin J. Devoe

CORINNA - Irvin J. Devoe, 72, died peacefully December 28, 2012 at his residence. He was born June 19, 1940 in Presque Isle, a son of Clarence and Velma (Tompkins) Devoe. He had been employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna and Seaman’s Rugs in Dexter. Irvin was a member of the Detroit Apostolic Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Connie of Corinna; 2 daughters, Irene and husband Rev. Glenn Wittmeier of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Donna and husband Dana Peirce of Glenburn; 2 brothers, Clarence Devoe and Donald Devoe, both of Presque Isle; a sister, Hazel Case of Perham; 4 grandchildren, Tonia, Joshua, Dana, Jr. “D.J.” and Alexander; 1 great granddaughter, Ella; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Burton Devoe; and 3 sisters, Helen Downs, Geneva Devoe, and Inez McIntyre.
Friends called from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, January 3rd, at the Detroit Apostolic Fellowship, 19 Main Street, Detroit, where funeral services were held 1 PM Friday with the Rev. Rosendo Longoria officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Chapel, Corinna. Spring burial will be in the Morse’s Corner cemetery, Corinna. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 170 U.S. Route One, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.

Gervais E. Ronco

DEXTER - Gervais E. Ronco, 69, died December 28, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 1, 1943, in Dexter, the son of Edmond and Avis (Judkins) Ronco Sr.
He worked as a supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department, for the Town of Dexter for many years. He was an avid hunter and trapper, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, RosaLee (Webber) Ronco of Dexter; 5 daughters, Cheryl and her husband, Rev. Robert DeLeon of Dexter, Deborah and her husband, Rev. Bartram Dilks of New Mexico, Laura and Her husband Rev. Michael Noel of New Brunswick, Canada, Sally and her husband, Rev. Terry Kennedy of New Brunswick, Canada, Nancy and her husband, Joshua Sanders of Plymouth; a son, Peter Ronco of Georgia; 19 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Edmond Ronco Jr.
Private funeral services will be held at the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Dexter. Spring burial will be in the West Garland cemetery.

Bernard A. Lamb

PITTSFIELD AND HARTLAND - Bernard A. Lamb, 93, died January 3, 2013 at a Hartland healthcare facility. He was born February 3, 1919 in Fiskeville, Rhode Island, a son of Patrick and Mary (Ashey) Lamb. He moved to Maine in 2009. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a Master Sergeant. His military career was from 1940 to 1956. Bernard was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a trade embalmer for many years in Rhode Island. He enjoyed cooking, reading and gardening. Everyone he knew will miss his sense of humor.
He is survived by 2 sons, Bernard, Jr. “Bernie” and wife Trudy Lamb of Pennsylvania, Alan and wife Chris Lamb of Ohio; 3 daughters, Frances and husband Paul Weldon of Florida, Maureen Lamb and her companion Peter Reynolds of Rhode Island, and Diane and husband Don Briggs of Plymouth; a sister Elsie Oliver of Rhode Island; 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; several nieces nephews and friends, who will miss him dearly; and his beloved canine companions, Sammy and Jake.
Bernard was predeceased by his wife Norma; 2 daughters, Anne Kennemer and Cathleen Lamb; 2 brothers, Henry and Thomas Lamb; and 3 sisters, Margaret Bicknell, Rita Havens, and Katherine Rouselle.
There will be no services at this time. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Maine. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish may leave written tributes at www.CrosbyNeal.com

Bruce M. Welch

PITTSFIELD - Bruce M. Welch, 47, passed away unexpectedly from a tragic accident on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in Pittsfield.
Bruce was born on June 15, 1965, at EMMC in Bangor, Maine, the son of Maurice Bradford and Delina (Paradis) Terrio. He attended Newport Elementary and graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1984. As a youth, he was baptized at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. He held multiple positions at Pike Industries in Fairfield and was employed by them for over 20 years.
Bruce was a very likable guy, always smiling and had a strong work ethic. He enjoyed attending the stock car races and driving his recently purchased go-kart at Thundering Valley Raceway in St. Albans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his family and friends. He loved spending time with family and friends and appreciated all the simpler things in life. He was selfless; always putting others first.
He is survived by his son, Corey Welch and his companion, Jessica Girroir, of Pittsfield; his soon-to-be born grandchild; his companion, Gale Lizzotte of Pittsfield and her two sons, Jon and Derrick; mother, Delina (Dee) Terrio of Newport; brother, Steven Welch and wife Lucy of Newport; sisters, Deborah Welch of Bangor and Brenda Welch of Newport; half brother, Robert Bradford; half sister, Marsha Bradford; uncle, Tim Paradis and wife Carol of Newport; aunts, Lillian Sawyer of Corinna and Nancy Bellfleur of Pittsfield; great aunt, Mary Jane Alan of Newington, Connecticut; friend and mother of Corey, Tammy Faloon of Newport; dearest friends, Tom McNeil, Sandy Wishart and the Brooks family, all of Pittsfield; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Maurice Bradford; step father, Harold Terrio; father-in-law, Galen Faloon; grandparents, Emile and Clarissa Paradis; godparents, Vic and Louise Poulin; uncle, Ernest (Red) Paradis; uncle, Robert Bellfleur; and extended family members, Eugene and Hazel Welch and Leland Welch.
A celebration of life was held from 2 to 4 PM, Saturday, January 5th, 2013, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield.
