M. RAYMOND CORSON, JR.

HARTLAND - M. Raymond Corson, Jr, 78, died peacefully on Saturday, April 26, at his home in Hartland.
He was born on April 24, 1936, in Brighton, Maine, the son of Mahlon and Louise (Post) Corson Sr.
Raymond served our country in the United States National Guard. He was employed for over 30 years at the Irving Tanning Company in Hartland and also spent time working in the woods. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a very talented mechanic. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and loved being surrounded by his family. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and will be lovingly remembered.
He is survived by his children, Timothy Corson and his wife, Estella, of Corinna, Angela Wentworth and her significant other, Skeet Wentworth, of Skowhegan and Danny Corson and his companion, Missy Day, of West Athens; several grandchildren, Tonja Dodge, Joey Dodge, Desiree Sevon, Olivia Steenchifeld, Lee Woodman, Heather Dillingham, Rebecca Corson, Brittany (Corson) Woodman, Ella Lyon and Essa Lyon; several great grandchildren; his sister, Beatrice Linkletter of Harmony; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Sandra Gifford; his second wife, Margo Corson; a daughter, Tammy Roberts; and two brothers, Linwood Corson and James Corson.
A memorial service was held at 1 PM, Saturday, May 3rd, 2014, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, in Pittsfield. A committal service with military honors will be held in the summer at the Mt. Rest cemetery, Academy Street in Athens.
Care for the family has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

KENNETH E. HUNTINGTON

DETROIT - Kenneth E. Huntington 69 died unexpectedly April 26, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Bangor April 5, 1945 the son of Henry S and Hazel A. (Duran) Huntington. He was educated in Newport Schools and attended Newport High School.
Ken was a member of Company C, 262nd Army National Guard Engineering Unit, Newport, Maine. Ken served in this unit from 1962 1968.
Ken married Marvis Palmer in Newport on Nov. 16, 1963. Marvis predeceased him on June 23, 2010. They had been married for 46 years.
He was employed as a millwright for Agway Inc. for over 23 years. He was also employed at Cianbro in Pittsfield for 15 years retiring due to ill health.
Ken was an avid outdoors man enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and especially trapping. He was a member of the Maine Trappers Association. He was wildlife nuisance trapper for the local area. Ken also repaired and traded old traps.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy E. Parent of Plymouth, his son, Robert K. Huntington of Albion, one grandson, Adam K. Parent of Plymouth, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Marvis and one brother, Irving Huntington.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 1 PM May 22, 2014 at the Detroit Village cemetery, Detroit, ME with Rev. Ernest Campbell officiating.

VIOLA B. WATSON

CORINNA - Viola Bernice (Maudy) Watson was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta to Michael and Pearl (Binney) Maudy on September 4, 1925. She passed away at her home on April 28, 2014. Viola joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and began training in x-ray technology in Ontario where she met and eventually married Neal Watson of Toronto, Ontario while he was still in veterinary college. Vi and Neal moved to Dexter in 1953 where Vi raised 5 children: Susan, John, Laura, David and Millar, assisted in Neal’s veterinary practice, helped run the family farm and was active in the Episcopal church and the arts community. She was an accomplished painter, weaver, seamstress, bee keeper and gardener. She was very active in the Sebasticook Garden Club, Dexter Bridge Club, Dexter Jay Cee-ettes, the Make It Yourself with Wool competitions, Maine Spinners and Weavers Guild, the Cooperative Extension Service including starting 4-H Clubs when her children were young, and the Dexter Farmer’s Market, which is still running.
Viola will be sadly missed by her husband of 67 years; her 5 children; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren for whom she provided an enriched and creative environment, warm smile and wry wit.
She was predeceased by a son, Norman Herbert Watson, her parents Mitchell and Pearl Maudy and her brother Leonard Maudy of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.
A Memorial Service was held 11 AM, Saturday, May 3rd, at the Penobscot Lodge, Masons, #39, located at 200 Dover Road (Route 7) in Dexter.

LEONA MAY JOHNDRO

DETROIT - Leona May Johndro, 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Graveside services will be held in June at Corinna Village cemetery in Corinna, Maine.
Leona was the daughter of Edmund Joseph Johndro and Alta Barnes Johndro, and lived in Exeter, Maine before moving to Georgia in 2007. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Percy Johndro and Robert Johndro; and daughter, Julia Bell Damon.
Survivors include her son, Edward Hall (Mary) of Atkinson, Maine; daughter, Diane Zuloaga of Hartwell, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy St. Pierre of Connecticut, Isabelle McKeon of Texas, Jeanette Martin of Dexter, Maine, and Charlene Powell of Dexter, Maine; brothers, Eugene Johndro (Lottie) of St. Albans, Maine, and Richard Johndro (Glenda) of Milford, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. JOHN A. FISH, JR.

PALMYRA & NEWPORT - John A. Fish, Jr., 63, died peacefully April 19, 2014 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his family. John led a long battle with MS and other health problems. He has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour and other family members. No more suffering and pain!
He was born June 1, 1950 in Milo a son of John Fish, Sr. and Gloria (Nason) Fish. He attended schools in Milo and CT. He worked at various jobs in CT and ME. John was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and many friends. He loved camping with his wife and step children. In addition to his loving wife of 28 years, Barbara of Newport, he is survived by his mother, Gloria Stinson of Dexter; a brother, Donald Fish of CT; 4 sons, John Paul, Scott, Steven, and David Fish, all of CT and VA. He is also survived by his step children, which he helped raise and was a great father to, Stacey Stinson of Newport, Christina Robbins and fiancé Alan Farrar, both of Hermon, and Dale Robbins of Newport. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and a new granddaughter due in June. He will be greatly missed by his special sister in law, Brenda and husband Richard Jackson of Newport. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters in law. He was predeceased by his father, and father in law, the Rev. Theodore Stinson, with whom he was close to. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Graveside committal services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, June 7th at the Sebec Village cemetery, with his brother in law, the Rev. James Stinson officiating. A gathering after the burial will be held at Barbara’s home at 32 Elm Street, Newport. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Donations to assist the family with final expenses may be made to Mr. Richard Jackson, 55 Lunt Road, Newport, ME 04953.

ARNOLD W. BICKFORD

PITTSFIELD - Arnold W. Bickford, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in Bangor, Maine.
He was born on October 26, 1926, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Laforest and Angie (Pushaw) Bickford. He served our country both in the United States Navy and United States Army. He married Ruth Ann Killam May 8, 1954 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage together until her passing on February 16, 2009.
Arnold was employed by Northeast Shoe of Pittsfield, Maine until his employment with Cianbro Corporation, where he retired after 22 year of service driving tractor trailer hauling heavy equipment to various project sites. He thoroughly enjoyed driving and had a keen sense of finding little road side food shanties that specialized in unique food that he would share with his fellow drivers.
During the weekends, his wife, family and their circle of close friends would routinely gather and socialize by having cook outs and other functions. Annually, during hunting season he enjoyed spending time with his close friend, Harvey Martin and others at Harvey’s hunting camp on St. Albans Mountain telling jokes, playing poker and the other things they all enjoyed doing while in each other’s company. He and his wife loved their Siamese cats, Ginger and Paws and will be lovingly missed and remembered.
He had many friends and was often referred to as “Poison Tongue” for his ability to tease and “push the right buttons” until they figured out what he was doing, often times too late.
After retiring he enjoyed golfing daily with his ole friends, nicknamed the “Grumpy Ole Men”, followed by their infamous tail gating in the parking lot prior to starting their daily routines. Likewise, he was a daily patron of the local Elks Lodge #2713 or what he commonly referred to as the “Office”, where he and his friend Mike McGowan and others would joke with one another and play “Pull Tickets” in an effort to win money for entertainment.
For many years he enjoyed making beef jerky and distributing it to his friends and acquaintances in an expression of kindness; especially to his son and daughter-in-law’s two dogs that were greatly appreciative.
He is survived by his son, Brian Bickford and his wife Tamara, of St Albans, Maine; four grandchildren, Ryan Bickford and his wife Heather, of Corinna, Liza Whitaker and her husband, Howard, of Pittsfield, Patrick Bickford and his wife Kacey, of Nashua, New Hampshire and Riley Bickford of Metairie, Louisiana; three great grandchildren, Cole and Andrew Whitaker and Declan Patrick Bickford; special cousin, Marcia Bickford, special friends, Blackie Reynolds of Pittsfield and Richard McNichol of Hartland.
He was predeceased by his parents; loving wife, Ruth Ann Bickford; and brother, Roland Bickford.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Monday April 21st, 2014, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield with Glenn Nichols officiating. Following the memorial service there will be a celebration at the Elks Lodge in Pittsfield from 2 to 4 PM. All are welcome. A private committal service will take place in the Village cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SCPA, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton, Maine, 04605, in Arnold’s memory.

CHARLES W. ANDERSON

DEXTER & MONSON - Charles William Anderson, 61, died March 28, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. Charlie was surrounded by his children and sister Martha Crossman as he passed after his five year battle with cancer. He was born November 3, 1952 in Hartford, CT, and moved to Dexter with his father. He lived in Oakland with his aunt and uncle, Hilma and Perlie Pulcifur, and beloved cousin Selma, while his father worked at Pratt Whitney in CT. During his school years he lived in Dexter with his dad Elwood “Andy” Anderson and “mom” Barbara Anderson, and attended Dexter schools.
Charlie was a clever carpenter and a crafty cribbage player. He was known to be a great pool player and was known as “8 ball” by his friends. He loved fishing and hunting and shared this joy with his children and grandchildren, who all have special memories of “wetting a line.”
He loved his 2 daughters, Sonja Anderson and Missy Anderson, and the children of his heart, Gene Woodard, Carla Sherrard, and Jennifer Dole. Grandpa Charlie was loved by his fishing buddies, his 9 grandchildren, Jessi, Kegan, Kayli-Gene, Cloe, Shad, Bryce, Gaige, Taylor, and Jaydon.
A celebration of his life will be held 1 PM Saturday, April 12th, at the Dexter Fire Station on Church Street. This will be a laid back celebration of Charles’ life.
A Dad leaves his mark on the world through his children and grandchildren. “Remember to always thank the caregivers and nurses.”

ROBERT “BOB” GUDROE

CORINNA - Robert Edward Gudroe, 76, died March 29, 2014 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his family. He was born December 22, 1937 in Lewiston, a son of Edward and Marjorie (Whitman) Gudroe. He graduated from Dexter High School, Class of 1956.
Bob was a 30 year member of the Corinna Fire Department, a Past Master and 50 year member of Parian Masonic Lodge, Corinna, and a member of the 946th Transportation Company, Army Reserves in Dexter. He was a maintenance supervisor at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna for many years, a foreman at Dexter Shoe Company, and retired from Charleston Correctional Facility (Mountain View) Maintenance Department. Bob was highly regarded in the community.
He was a lifetime member of the Maine Trapper’s Association, the National Rifle Association, and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. In his early years, he enjoyed playing town league softball and was also fondly remembered as a Little League coach. Bob built their camp in 1963 on Center Pond in Sangerville. He spent many good times there with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Willey) Gudroe of Corinna; three children and their spouses, Wanda and Chip Butler of Newport, Alan and Dee Gudroe of Lakeland, FL, and Diana and Ralph McNaughton of Newport; a sister, Brenda Dinopoulos of Corinna; 6 grandchildren, Jarrett Butler, Nicholas Butler, Adam McNaughton, Brandon McNaughton, Rachel (Gudroe) Jeffs, and Marcy (Gudroe) Stevens; and 15 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sisters, Beatrice Weeks and Phyllis Bemis; and a grandson, Ryan Butler.
Friends called from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, April 2nd at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, where a masonic service was held at 7 PM. Funeral services were held 2 PM Thursday at the chapel with the Rev. Michael Wilbur officiating. Spring burial will be in the Corinna Village cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Corinna Fire Department, c/o of the Town of Corinna, 8 Levi Stewart Drive, Corinna, ME 04928.

ALTHEA “DOTTIE” FINNEMORE

CORINNA & CORINTH - Althea Louise Finnemore, 77, died April 1, 2014 at a Brewer nursing home surrounded by her family. She was born April 6, 1936 in Houlton, a daughter of Coburn and Dorothy (McKinney) Finnemore, Sr. She graduated from Newport High School and the University of Maine at Farmington. Dottie taught school in Maryland for a time before moving back to Maine. She later co-owned Berg’s Store in Brownville Junction and Berg Enterprises in Corinna. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother.
Dottie is survived by 2 sons, Scott E. Trask of Corinth, and Rick and wife Hyein Berg of Vassalboro; a daughter, Vicki J. Trask of Newport; a brother, Victor and wife Debbie Finnemore, and a sister, Jeanne “DeeDee” Scott, all of Florida.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Gary L. Trask, her second husband, Ralph A. Berg, a son, Terry A. Trask, and two brothers, George Finnemore and Coburn Finnemore.
Funeral services were held at 1 PM on Sunday, April 6th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will occur later in the spring at Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna.

GILBERT J. NICHOLS

DETROIT - Gilbert J. Nichols, age 80, passed away unexpectedly on March 24, 2014.
He was born August 3, 1933 in St. Albans to Wallace and Josphine (Hinton) Nichols. He worked for many years as a home sewer for Dexter Shoe and at Eastland Woolen Mill. He enjoyed camping, 4 wheeling and his dog Copper.
He was predeceased by his wife Delores Nichols and his two sons, William “Gibby” Vais and Gilbert J. Nichols Jr.
He is survived by Diana Perkins and Roger Sheppard of Harland, Ronald Vais and Carol Odom of Enterprise, AL, Brenda Temple and fiance Kirk Taylor of Exeter, Duayne and Sandi Jean Vais of Detroit, Jeff and Dotti Nichols of Burnham, Frank and Jeanie Nichols of Hartland and Edward and Polly Nichols of Pittsfield, sister-in-law Norma Mooney of Rogers, CT, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Per Gilbert’s wishes a private spring burial for family is planned.
