VIRGINIA P. BURTON

Hartland - Virginia P. Burton, 77, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in Pittsfield.
She was born on March 14, 1936, in Hartland, Maine, the daughter of Richard and Jenny (Stafford) Vanadestine. She attended the local schools, married Donald Burton and together they raised their family.
Virginia enjoyed barbeques, country music, shopping at Walmart and watching movies. She absolutely loved the Red Sox and was just beginning to enjoy football and hockey. She was an avid fan of WWE and “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson, was her favorite.
She is survived by her children, Donna Bires and husband, John, of Hartland, Heidi Stineford and husband, William, of LaGrange, Wesley Burton of Hartland, Laurie Call and husband, Dale, of Palmyra and Tammy Poulin and husband, Royce, of Newport; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 4 sisters, Edith Bell of Hartland, Barbara Vanadestine of Connecticut, Linda Bell and husband, Raymond, of Connecticut and Donna Peterson and husband, Warren, of Ripley.
She was predeceased by her father and mother; her husband, Donald Burton; 3 brothers, Archie, Carroll, Harold; and 3 sisters, Mary, Jaclyn and Beverly.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Village cemetery, in Palmyra.
Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

RUSSELL L. MARTIN

PITTSFIELD - Russell L. Martin, 95, of Pittsfield, ME and Seminole, FL recently passed away after a short illness at Bay Pines VA Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. Born in Lewiston, ME on August 31st, 1918 to Clyde E. and Clare G. (Barnes) Martin. He graduated From MCI and attended Northeastern University before entering the Army Air Corp with Lawrence Stafford and Kenneth Hamilton, also of Pittsfield, on December 7th, 1939. Two years before Pearl Harbor. While in New York City selling War Bonds, he met his wife, Marguerite C. Wikre, of St. Paul, MN, who was there on vacation with some girlfriends. He was discharged in May 1945 with the rank of Second Lieutenant. They lived for 8 years in St. Paul, MN before returning to Maine to take over his father’s business on Moose Pond.
He was a lifelong member of the Pittsfield Masonic Lodge and the World War II Memorial. An avid fisherman and hunter he was a member of the One That Didn’t Get Away Club as well as The Big Buck Club. He also had many trophies as Senior Champion from JW Parks Golf Course.
He is survived by his daughter Charlotte Fawcett of Seminole, FL, his sons Lowell Martin of Cambridge, ME, Greg Martin of Weston, MO, and Robert Martin of Seminole, FL. His grandchildren Brent and Courtney Martin; Jessica and Lydia Martin; Kristi and Kasey Martin; and Branden and Kerry Martin, as well as 5 great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife Marguerite and his son Kerry Martin brother John E. Martin, as well as, all of his childhood friends.
A spring burial is planned in the Pittsfield Village cemetery next to his wife and parents.

ELIZA J. LINT

STETSON - Our precious mother, Eliza Jane Lint, 88, left her long struggle behind on January 12, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Brenda. She was surrounded by her loving and caring family as she would have wished. Mama was greeted by her husband of 57 years, Earl Lint and her 2 loving sons, Earl “Timmy” and Dwight Lint. Mama was so happy to also be met by her Dad and Mom, Donald and Dorothy (Caldwell) Kinney; as well as her sisters, Dorothy, Mabel, Beulah, Bessie, Grace, and Ida; and 2 brothers, Clarence and Malcom Kinney. She was born in Blaine, Maine on July 2, 1925.
When she was 16 she moved to Connecticut with her sister Dorothy. Mama worked at the Taber Baseball Manufacturing Co. in Manchester, CT during World War II. After she was married , she was a homemaker and mother. In 1962, the family moved to Wallingford, CT, where she was employed at the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. In the early 80’s the family moved to Stetson.
Mama is survived by 2 daughters, Brenda Clark of Stetson and Barbara Ann and husband Bernard Beaulier of Portage Lake. She left behind her precious grandchildren and their spouses, Randy and Tina Randall, Margaret and Scott Bellefleur, Luke and Niki Bell, Frannie and Jim Hair, Frank and Kourtney Cook and Mabel Bell, Angel and Jack Zakharia, Tiki and Troy, Henry Beaulier and Laura, Larry Johnston, Mary Ann, David, Jack, James, Sabrina and Melissa, Wade and Sandy Wheeler and Danny Wheeler. She also left behind 31 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren, whom she loved and adored. Eliza also leaves her dear loving friend Beulah Butler of Stetson.
Friends called from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the Stetson Union Church, where funeral services were held at 1 PM Thursday, January 16th, with the Rev. David Ray, Sr. officiating. Spring burial will be in the Coboro cemetery, Stetson. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport.

SANDRA MAY BIENKOWSKI

Plymouth, ME & Loving, NM - Sandra May Robinson, McLellan, Weymouth, Bienkowski, 60, passed away January 3rd, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas after a long battle with Diabetes. She was born June 5th, 1953 the daughter of Myron and Mary (Hacket) Robinson. She was a Certified nurses assistant last employed at Sanfield Rehab and Living Center in 1994. Sandy was a loving caring person who always welcomed people into her home. She enjoyed having her siblings and other relatives come stay with her in Maine for summers and sometimes longer. Many memories were made for all.. She enjoyed blending families with her family and the Weymouth family and later the Bienkowski family. She most recently enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her parents, and husband Stanley A Bienkowski, husband Ken Weymouth, granddaughter Mykle Lynn Harper, brother John Robinson, brother Donald Robinson, brother Donny (raised by her mother as her brother), and sister Mary (Robinson) Stanley. She is survived by, son Jason McLellan and wife Honey of Loving, NM. A daughter Nicole Bienkowski and husband Dave of Plymouth, ME. A stepdaughter Karen Gannetta of Bemiji, MN. Granddaughters Jade Harper of Plymouth, ME, Cheyanne and Jennifer McLellan of Loving, NM, and Kyara Serbus of Bemiji, MN. Brother Myron Robinson and late wife Candance Robinson of Randolph, MA, Sister Charlene Robinson and longtime boyfriend Thomas Kilmer of Gloucester, MA, Sister Colleen Labonte and husband Richard of Lynn, MA, Sister Diane Robinson of Beverly, MA, a brother Robert Robinson and wife Loretta of Wenatchee, WA. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Per her wishes she will have a private service during the summer.

BRUCE F. VIGUE

SKOWHEGAN - Bruce F. Vigue entered eternal life on Thursday, January 9, 2014 in Redlands, CA at the age of 79. He was born in Skowhegan, ME on August 19, 1934 to Francis C. and Marion E. (Raynes) Vigue. Bruce was a graduate of Skowhegan High School, class of 1952. He has been a resident in Riverside County in California since 1971. TSGT Vigue served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Stationed at various bases in Colorado, Alaska, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maine, Texas, California, Guam, Okinawa, Thailand and ending his Air Force career at Kincheloe AFB in Michigan with 21 years 8 months and 24 days of service. TSGT Vigue was a recipient of the Bombardier Award and the Air Medal with 13 Oak Leaf clusters for Meritorious flight achievements. TSGT Vigue is a member of the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots association for successfully striking targets located in Red River Valley of North Vietnam facing MIG’s, Sam’s & Guns defending those targets. Because of TSGT Vigue’s professional actions as a B-52 Tail Gunner, while at U-Tapao Thailand, TSGT Vigue shall forever be known as a “Bonus Dealer”, having dealt “Charlie” a Bad Hand!!! During TDY assignments to Guam, Okinawa and Thailand, TSGT Vigue completed two hundred ninety seven Southeast Asia B-52 combat missions.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, Bruce was employed with the US Postal Service at the San Bernardino service center as a Dock Supervisor for twenty two years. He was very proud to refer himself as a “Double Dipper”.
Bruce had many hobbies that included, deep sea fishing, target shooting (making special reloads for himself and his “shooting buddies”), prairie dog and wild pig hunting, Harley riding with his son, Rodney to Missouri, Death Valley and Arizona. He also went on several vacations where he would walk down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to camp for a week. Most of all Pops enjoyed his camp and cruising Lake Wesserunsett on his Pontoon Boat. From his cabin he would sit in his chair and watch the fish jump while he waited for Louie & Madelyn (Loons) to paddle around and dive in the rain or shine.
Bruce is a member of the American Legion Post 0426 in Yucaipa, CA, VFW Post 7865 in Madison, ME and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #0047.
Bruce (Pops) is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara in 2006. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of 52 years; son, Rodney K. (wife Pamela) of Bermuda Dunes, CA; daughter, Tina L. (husband Alan Meservey) of Lake Havasu City, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Cody, Bret, Kala Meservey and Chase Vigue; 1 Great Granddaughter; brother, Joel Vigue of Pennsylvania; and a very special brother-in-law, Everett Salsbury of Canaan, ME.
A Graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21st, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Riverside National cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA, staging area #3.

AUDREY A. GARLAND

HARTLAND - Audrey A. (Heath) Garland, 80 passed away peacefully Jan. 15, 2014, with her daughter Jean and son-in-law Ralph by her side at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. She was born Sept. 26, 1933 in Hope, Maine the daughter of Fred and Verna (Hastings) Heath.
Audrey was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shirley B. Carter Post 4298 VFW in Dexter. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Audrey loved to knit and crochet. She will be remembered for her baby sets and blankets which she won a National Ribbon for.
Her daughter Jean would like to thank the doctors and nurses who took care of her mother at Sebasticook Valley Hospital.
Audrey was married to George R Garland who predeceased her on December 18th, 2008. She is survived by two daughters. Her youngest daughter who has been by her side these past couple of months, Jean and her husband Ralph Starbird of St. Albans, two grandchildren, Christopher Starbird of Mahwah, NJ, Jessica and her husband Eric Peavey of Detroit, two great grandchildren, who meant the world to her, Jordon and Dylon Peavey of Detroit, her oldest daughter Judy Dungan of Florida and three grandchildren; the late Jimmy Dungan, Rebecca and Joshua of Florida. Audrey will also be remembered by her dear friend Emily who was her neighbor for many years.
At Audrey’s request, she will be cremated and her remains buried along side of her husband George at the Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery in the spring of 2014.

DAVID A. LARNER

NEWPORT - David A. Larner, 79, died January 14, 2014 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born July 5, 1934 in Bangor, a son of Arthur and Katherine (Moore) Larner. David worshiped our creator as a Jehovah’s Witness. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed time spent with loved ones and friends, as well as boating, diving, building houses, aviation, tinkering and repairing things.
In addition to his intended wife, Gertrude Lawler of Newport, he is survived by his children, Dennis Larner of Cocoa Beach, FL, Davine Traften of Brunswick, GA, Benjamin Larner of Appleton, and Mark Larner of Bakersfield, CA; his step-children, Michael Marin of Bakersfield, CA, Christine Colby of Palmyra, and Gerald Marin of Augusta; a brother, James Larner of Bangor; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
A gathering for close friends and family in remembrance of David was held at the home of Gerry and Christine Colby, 73 Warren Hill Road, Palmyra, at 1 PM, Saturday, January 18th. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish may leave written tributes at www.CrosbyNeal.com

JOHN F. AYER

FT PIERCE, FL - John F. Ayer, 82 passed away peacefully on January 19, 2015 in Fort Pierce, Florida. John is survived by his wife Marilyn of Ft Pierce Florida, children William Ayer and wife Sissy of Detroit Maine, Charlene Brown and husband Brian of Absecon NJ, John Ayer and wife Lynn of Plymouth Maine, Colleen Crawford and husband Jeff of Detroit Maine, Ben Ayer and wife Sara of Newport Maine, and Fred Ayer and wife Chris of Newport Maine. He also had many grandchildren and great grandchildren Eric Neal wife Courtney with Ethan, Gavin, Carson and Kellen, Seth Brown wife Mariko, with Wade Mayako and Sachiko, Nicki Reily and husband Jim, Darrell Crawford wife Erica with Cole, Nathan and Kyle Ayer, and Bailey and Emily Ayer John was predeceased by his mother Willietta Morse and father John Ayer also three sisters Patricia Lawerenson, Colleen Compton and Elizabeth Pono.
John graduated from Farmington High school in Farmington Maine where he played basketball and worked on the family farm. It was in Farmington that he met his wife Marilyn, they married in 1954 John and Marilyn were married for 60 years raising 6 children. He often said the things in life he cherished the most and his greatest accomplishment was his family. He lived in many towns throughout Maine but always called Newport home till moving to Fort Pierce Florida where he resided for the last 21 years. John was a true jack of all trades from construction to road crew worker, Policeman and Fireman. He was a wonderful husband and a great Dad. He was a true friend, who many labeled as “honest” and a hard worker two things he was proud of.
John was a lifetime member of Fraternal Order of Elks first the Bangor Maine Lodge and then Ft Pierce Florida Lodge. He was also active in the Tall Pines Community as Chairperson of Bingo for many years and helping on the Pioneer Club with special activities and events. He will be greatly missed for his humor and wit.
The family wished to thank the staff of AbbyJean Russell where John had been a resident for a short time. You all made him feel very special, you not only took care of him you helped to take care of us too. Thank you to Treasure Coast Hospice for making the final days much easier. There will not be any services final internment will be in Newport Maine at a later date. Arrangements by Haisley Funeral Fort Pierce Florida.

SHARON WEEKS

ST. ALBANS - Sharon Weeks, 62, home to be with her Lord January 16, 2015 after fighting a long battle. She was born February 20, 1952 in East Corinth, a daughter of Raymond and Lorraine (Lambert) Elliott. Sharon graduated from Central High School, Class of 1970 as valedictorian of her class. She worked for Metropolitan Life in Bangor and transferred to Waterville where she became office manager. When the Waterville office closed she was asked to return to Bangor. After 25 years of service she took early retirement in order to care for her mother. After her mother passed she worked as bookkeeper for the Town of St. Albans. Sharon married Earle Osborne Weeks on May 5th, 1973. They had a wonderful life together for 41 years. They especially enjoyed retirement cruising to Hawaii, Alaska, the Panama Canal and many locales in the Caribbean. They wintered in Florida and traveled across the United States twice. These are cherished memories.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Wonderful times were shared playing tennis, biking, hiking, camping and ice skating. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family. She spent much of her free time walking miles through the woods with her golden retrievers seeking out new adventures.
Sharon was baptized into the Methodist Church at age 9 and was always a faithful servant. She was a strong Christian woman who led her family by example. She will be remembered as a kind, caring person with a big smile for everyone no matter what struggles she faced in life. She was a member of Grace-Linn United Methodist Church in Hartland, the United Methodist Women, a member of the Hartland-St. Albans Lions Club, and was a past member of the Oakland Sunshine Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters, Angie Weeks-Knapp of Harmony, Tammy Christianson of Sidney, and a son in law she considered to be her son, Nathan Christianson; 2 brothers Philip Elliott and wife Annabel of Cape Coral, Florida, Richard Elliott and wife Patricia of Decatur, Alabama; 4 grandchildren, Barrett, Abigail, Joshua, and Joseph; and 2 aunts, Eva and Norma; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 20th, at Grace-Linn United Methodist Church, 8 Seekins Street, Hartland with Pastor Jim Boughman officiating. Spring burial will be in the Crocker cemetery, St. Albans.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Aliza Jean Family Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 124, Harmony, ME 04942. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home in Newport, Maine.

WALTER L. IRELAND

CORINNA & DEXTER - Walter Lyman Ireland, 102, an incomparable son, brother, husband and father passed away January 12, 2015 after a brief illness at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born November 1, 1912 in St. Albans, a son of Lyman and Bertha (Nutter) Ireland.
He graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1931, where he loved playing basketball. He also enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics games whenever they were on TV up until his passing. Walter will always be remembered for his giving heart and helping others. He loved hunting and fishing with all his many friends, and enjoyed working in his workshop where he spent many hours building a beautiful boat, furniture, tables and countless other items for his family and friends. He worked as a carpenter in Bangor for many years building houses and then became the wheel alignment specialist for Perley Hartley in Corinna for over 27 years.
Walter is survived by 2 daughters, Peggy Kaufman of Dexter and Elaine Levenseller of Milton, Florida; 4 special grand-daughters, LeAnn Kaufman, Christine Moulton, Teresa Emery and Shannon Cousins; 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Arlene (Bryson) Ireland; and 2 sisters, Madeline Anderson and Florence Brown.
Graveside committal services will be held in the spring at the Corinna Village
cemetery on the Stetson Road. Arrangements are by Crosby& Neal Chapel, Corinna. Those who wish to remember Walter in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Stewart Library Building Restoration Project, Town Office, 8 Levi Stewart Drive, Corinna, ME 04928.

EDWIN H. MOWER

GORHAM - Edwin H. Mower, 89, formerly of St. Albans, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the Gorham House in Gorham, Maine.
He was born on March 9, 1925, in St. Albans, the son of Philip and Marjorie (Heath) Mower. He spent most of his life in St. Albans, graduated from Hartland Academy in 1943 and proudly served in the European Theatre in the Army Air Corp during World War II. While in the service, he attended college in Ohio and later at Husson College in Bangor, Maine.
He was employed by Wirthmore Feeds in Corinna and later was the store manager of Agway in Fairfield until his retirement. He was very active and loved to play golf and was proud of his three “holes in one.” He enjoyed riding motorcycles, skiing, and piloting small aircraft. His first plane was a Taylorcraft which he kept on Big Indian Lake in St. Albans during the winter. He liked taking his wife and family on trips and to attend “fly-ins” in central Maine. Later on he had a Cessna airplane which he kept at the Pittsfield airport. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and golf tournaments.
He and his wife wintered in Zephyrhills, Florida, for almost 30 years. They spent the rest of their time at their home on Big Indian Lake in St. Albans where they enjoyed spending time with their family and life-long friends. For the last couple of years, they resided at the Park Residences in Waterville and recently moved to the Gorham House. They had a wonderful life together.
He was a member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge #95 in Hartland as well as the Anah Shriners in Bangor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Irene (Small) Mower, of Gorham; daughters, Karen Weymouth and husband, Peter, of Scarborough and Edwina Brown of Standish; son, Chris Mower of St. Albans; daughter-in-law Irene Mower of Bath; grandchildren, Ian Weymouth, Eli Weymouth and wife, Nicole, Heath Mower, Matt Brown and wife, Maureen, and Tyler Mower and wife, Katie; great grandchildren, Emily and Eli Weymouth; sister, Winafred Russell of St. Albans; one niece; and three nephews. He will be dearly missed by his wife and family.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Victor Mower; and a sister, Priscilla Dunn.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Crocker cemetery, Dexter Road, St. Albans, Maine. Military honors will be presented for his service to our country. Additional details to be provided at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Gorham House for their compassionate care.
Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home.
