LESTER E. PARKHURST

Sun City Center, Florida and PITTSFIELD, Maine — Lester E. Parkhurst of Sun City Center, Florida/Pittsfield, Maine, died December 7, 2014. The Parkhurst family will have a memorial service, in his honor, July 25, 2015 at the First Universalist Church of Pittsfield from 12 PM till 2 PM.
There will be a brief service after which friends can gather for refreshments and a chance to visit with Ruth Parkhurst who is looking forward to being among old friends.
This is to be an informal affair where Jack, Doug, Jeanne, Carol, and Rick Parkhurst will be there to greet visitors.

ROSALINDE J. PARKER

CORINNA — Rosalinde J. Parker, 77, died July 5, 2015 at a Dexter heath care facility. She was born July 10, 1937 in Erlangen, Germany, a daughter of Wilhelm and Margarete (Schott) Wolfel. On June 19, 1954, she married Wilfred Parker. She attended a trade school in Germany for 2 years and received her GED at Nokomis Regional High in Newport.
She had been employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, the Dexter Shoe Company, and as a cook at several area restaurants. Rosalinde retired as a cook from Dexter Health Care after 22 years. She attended the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, she is survived by 2 sons, Bill and wife Erin Parker of Gulfport, Mississippi and Gerald Parker of Killeen, TX; 3 daughters, Christa Parker of Corinna, Regina Graham, Audrine and husband Wyman Bunker, all of Newport; a sister, Elsa Kahler of Barre, Ontario, Canada; son at heart Craig Parker and his wife Corinna of Corinna, 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Timothy Parker; a brother Joseph Wolfel; and a great grandson, Dominic Kuntz.
Funeral services were held 11 AM, Thursday, July 9th at the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield, with Associate Pastor Alex Oakes officiating. Friends called from 10 AM until the time of the services. Burial will follow at the Morse’s Corner cemetery, Corinna. Memorial donations may be made to Manna Ministries, 629 Main Street, Bangor, ME 04402. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Chapel, Corinna.

DON L. FULLER

NEWPORT — Don L. Fuller, a well known local artist, died July 4, 2015. Private burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.

WYATT EARL PARKER II

LEVANT — Wyatt Earl Parker II, 9, died unexpectedly July 7, 2015 as the result of a fire in Hermon. He was born October 4, 2005 in Bangor, a son of Wyatt and Christy (Story) Parker I. He attended Carmel Elementary School and would have entered 5th grade at Caravel Middle School in Carmel this fall. Wyatt enjoyed softball, catching frogs, and fishing with his dad.
He is survived by his parents of Levant; 2 brothers, Wriley and Wronan Parker of Levant; 2 sisters, Kristie Moulton of NH, and Kristian Ellingwood of Bradley; maternal grandparents, Judith and Alan Bechard of Waterville, and James and Nancy Story of Carmel; maternal great grandparents, Robert and Jennie Rideout of Atkinson; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Winfred and Lorraine Parker; and his uncle Winfred “ Rob” Parker, Jr.
Graveside funeral and committal services were held at 11 AM Friday, July 10th at Riverside cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to assist with funeral expenses, c/o Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, ME 04953.

DOROTHY E. MITCHELL

CORINNA — Dorothy E. Mitchell, 89, died June 27, 2015, at the Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. She was born in Bangor, October 11, 1925, the daughter of Robert L. and Juanita (Puckett) Benson of Saponac, Maine.
She graduated from Corinna Union Academy, salutatorian of the class of 1944.
She married David Ervin in 1945 and they resided in Corinna. They had a farm and large gardens where Dorothy worked hard to provide for her family.
Dorothy lived a full life as wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed people and welcomed many into her home, including many foster children. Dorothy was a woman of faith, which she enjoyed sharing with others. She was a long standing member of Pleasant Street Christian Church in Corinna. She was an avid reader of a variety of literature, especially the Bible, and she liked growing flowers.
She is survived by seven children, Carol Ervin of Dexter, Robert Ervin of Corinna, Aloyse Larrabee and her husband, Carlton “Stan” Larrabee Jr., of Dexter, Susan Newell of Clifton, Lucretia Smith of Plymouth, Brian Ervin and his wife, Erika of Levant, and Michael Ervin and his wife, Susan of Waterville; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Nellie House of Corinth; many cousins; nieces; and nephews.
She was predeceased by one grandson.
The family is thankful for the people at Pittsfield Community Home for their good care and support of Dorothy for the last two and a half years; and also the Sebasticook Valley Hospital staff for their help and care at the time of her passing.
Friends and relatives called Wednesday, July 1, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, at the Corinna Chapel of Crosby & Neal, 68 Exeter Road in Corinna. Funeral services were held at 11 AM, Thursday July 2nd, at the Pleasant Street Christian Church in Corinna with Pastor David Chenoweth officiating. Interment follwed at the Nutter cemetery in Corinna.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Pleasant Street Christian Church.

CARL E. GRAY

NEWPORT — Carl Edward Gray, 87, died June 29, 2015 at his daughter’s residence in Dexter. He was born January 17, 1928 in Newport, a son of James and Emma (Brewer) Gray. He graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1946 and worked for many years at H. P. Hood Company in Newport. He married Opel Green on November 9, 1948 by the Rev. John Miller. He was an active member of the People’s United Methodist Church in Newport. His life was his family, and he especially loved his grandchildren more than words can say.
He is survived by 3 children, Larry Gray of Newport, Sherry Rogers, Bonnie and husband Gil Levesque, all of Dexter; 2 brothers, Sidney and wife Carol Gray, and George Gray, all of Newport; and 2 grandchildren, Tyler and Amber Levesque; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Opal; and a daughter Karen Ann.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 18th, at the Riverside cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to the People’s United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 182, Newport, ME 04953. Those who wish may leave written condolences at www.CrosbyNeal.com

BEVERLY ANN DOORE

GARLAND — Beverly Ann Doore, 82, the wife of Maurice C. Doore, died peacefully June 19, 2015 at a Bangor Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was born May 18, 1933 in Corinth, the daughter of Llewellyn and Gladys (Bickmore) Cobb. She lived her childhood in Corinth and Dexter and has been a resident of Garland since 1962. She was a homemaker who loved gladiolas, carnations, playing piano, knitting socks and mittens and playing with her grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 64 years are four daughters, Rita West and husband, Ronald, Donna Merry and husband, Gordon, Brenda Doore and a very special daughter, Amy Sue Doore; a son, Micheal Doore and wife, Debbie; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Beverly was predeceased by a son Maxwell Charles Doore, two brothers, Carl and Llewellyn Cobb and three sisters, Marie Dowling, Ruth Storman and Kathryn Sibley.
Friends called at the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth from 1 to 2 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2015 until time of services at 2 PM with Pastor Kirk Mellon officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery, Garland

LEON EARL GRAY

NORTH NEWPORT & FARRINGTON POST, NORTH CAROLINA — Leon E. Gray, 91, died February 14, 2015 in Raleigh, NC. He was born January 29, 1924 in North Newport, a son of Wilbur and Leona (Brooks) Gray. He attended the one room Hubbard school in North Newport and graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1942. He was active in athletics and the debating club. Leon also graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. While living in New York City, he also attended New York University. He was employed as a combustion engineer and also served as a professor at NYU.
He is survived by his sister Evangeline Matijczyk of North Newport; his 3 children, Leon Earl Gray, Jr. and Jacqueline Ann Gray, both of NC, and Karen Maurine Gray of Levant; 4 grandchildren, Kim, Clark, Jeff Gray, and Amanda Stein, all of NC; 2 great grandchildren, June and Elliott Gray.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Opal Cox Gray; and a sister, Evie Tasker.
Memorial services were held at 2 PM Thursday, June 25th, at North Newport Christian Church with Theresa Gray officiating. Interment followed at 2:45 PM at the North Newport cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.

CHARLIE R. PHILBRICK

PITTSFIELD — Charlie R. Philbrick, 69, a resident of both Pittsfield, Maine and Pinellas Park, Florida, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in Pittsfield.
Charlie was born on November 18, 1945, in Dexter, the son of the late Robert and Shirley (Sevey) Philbrick. At eleven months, he moved to Pittsfield and was well known for his horses on Hartland Avenue and all the sleigh and hayrides. He attended the Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Maine Central Institute with the class of 1964.
Charlie was employed by the Maine Central Railroad for 40 years working as a Carman. He also worked at the Corner Citgo for fifteen years before purchasing in 1978. He, his wife, Rae, and two sons, owned and operated CR Philbrick and Sons for 30 years in Pittsfield. He also did repair service in the afternoons and weekends at the Pool and Spa Place in Pittsfield.
He was a charter member of the Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge #2713, a member of the Pittsfield Driftbusters Snowmobile Club, the Pinnacle Ski Club and the Somerset Ridge Runners ATV Club. Charlie loved taking four wheeling trips all over the state on his favorite Arctic Cat.
After retiring, Charlie and Rae were blessed to have been able to spend eight wonderful years traveling together. They spent 3 weeks in both Alaska and the Panama Canal. Throughout their life together they visited several different countries. Charlie truly loved his family and being able to be together. He enjoyed traveling for the Railroad and always kept a bag packed and ready to go. He was an avid shuffleboard player and liked co-chairing the team in Florida. Bocce was a favorite of his as well. He was a hardworking man and took great pride in his work. He was a pillar in his community and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Rae Philbrick of Pittsfield and Pinellas Park, Florida; two sons, Brian Philbrick and wife, Cathy, of Palmyra and Steve Philbrick and wife, Lillian, of Detroit; his three grandchildren, B.J. Philbrick, Bradley Philbrick and Danielle Shaw; and great granddaughter, Destiny. Pep’s grandchildren and granddaughter were his pride and joy.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 7, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield, with Rev. Glenn Nichols officiating. A gathering immediately followed at the Elks Lodge, 140 Middle Street, Pittsfield. The committal was private with immediate family at the Village cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, in Pittsfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sebasticook Valley Hospital, 447 North Main Street, Pittsfield, Maine, 04967 or to the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, Maine, 04074, in Charlie’s memory.

Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

GERALD E. DODDS

NEWPORT — Gerald “Jerry” Ervin Dodds, 69, died peacefully on June 16, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 7, 1946 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. He had a special love for model trains and was an avid collector of them.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sherry A. Dodds of Newport; daughters, Rhonda Dodds Burton and her partner Sean Newhall of Dunnellon, FL, Denise Dodds Cleveland and husband Christopher of Plymouth, and step daughter, Colleen Kennington of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Christopher and partner Jen, Andrew, Bryant and wife Megan, Morgan and partner Marcus, Tiffany, Jacob C., Alexis, Jacob K., and Ayden; sisters, Carrie Ann and husband Duane, Brenda and Donna; 6 great grandchildren; many special nieces, nephews, friends and adopted family.
He was predeceased by his mother and step father Rennie Doris (Tidwell) and Donald Nichols, I; brother, Donald Nichols, II; and brother-in-law, Richard Vittum.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family at Pine Grove cemetery in Hartland. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.

WAYNE HAWES, SR.

STETSON & CARMEL — Wayne Allen Hawes, Sr., 70, died unexpectedly June 5, 2015 at his residence. He was born July 9, 1944 in Carmel, a son of Guy and Dorothy (Emery) Hawes.
He served in the Army National Guard through the Newport Armory and worked as a heavy equipment operator with Alan Dorr Construction in Hermon until 2000. He then worked at his son’s business, Wayne’s Auto Sales in Carmel until 2007. In the past he was an avid hunter. In more recent years, he enjoyed golf, playing cards, woodworking and the slots.
He is survived by his wife, Lois (Underhill) Hawes of Stetson; 2 sons, Wayne II and wife Dianne of Carmel, Brian Hawes and his significant other, Katrina Surdick of Etna; 2 daughters, Dennell and husband Christopher Baker of Stetson, Deanna and husband Spencer Preble of Hancock; 2 brothers, Gary Hawes of Massachusetts and Guy and wife Naomi Hawes of Carmel; 2 sisters, Joyce Richards of Scarborough and Janet Hawes and her significant other, Donald Jordan of Carmel; 5 grandchildren, Cortney Hawes, Cameron Hawes, Kyle Ham, Dylan Ham, and Alexis Hawes; several nieces and nephews; a special mother-in-law, Kathleen “Kay” Underhill of Stetson; and his friend and mother of his children, Velma Shaw of Skowhegan.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Richard and Maynard Hawes; a sister Joan Bush; and a brother in law, David Richards.
Memorial services were held at 2 PM Wednesday, June 10th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, where friends called from 1 PM until the time of services. Pastor Al Worden officiated. There was a celebration of Wayne’s life that followed the services at the home of Willie Underhill, 1131 Mullen Road, Stetson. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 23312.
