CONNIE JENKINS MOODY

Hendersonville, NC — On August 31st, 2015, Connie Jenkins Moody of Hendersonville, NC passed away at age 64 after a long battle with COPD. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 41 years, Robert Moody and son Christopher, both of Hendersonville NC, as well as, step daughter Julie Steele and her husband Bill of Port Richey, FL. Family was everything to Connie and she will be greatly missed by six grandchildren- Adam and Riley Moody & Mary, Titus, Seth and Levi Steele; her brothers- Drake Jenkins and wife Christi, Craig Jenkins and sister Scotty Everett and her husband Gig of Sneadsferry, NC; her mother and father in law- Leola and George Moody of Pittsfield, ME and several nieces and nephews from Maine and North Carolina. Connie was predeceased by her mother- Vera Lee Wilt, her father- O.E. Jenkins, and daughter in law- Jamie Moody. Connie was remembered and celebrated at a service held September 5th at the Salem Baptist church in Sneadsferry, NC. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

FRANCIS N. “FRANK” HERRICK

FRANKLIN — Fancis N. "Frank" Herrick 78, of Franklin, died peacefully, at his home, Saturday August 22, 2015, following an illness. He was the husband of the late Carol Ann (Hixson) Herrick, who died in 2010. Born April 3, 1937, in Harmony, Maine a son of the late C. Merle and Mary I. (Paul) Herrick, he was a longtime Franklin resident. He was raised and educated in Harmony, and worked for Buckley & Mann, Inc. of Norfolk, before retiring several years ago. Francis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; he treasured spending time with his family, and following the Red Sox. He was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church and the Wrentham Family Group. He is survived by his children; Richard F. "Rick" Herrick of Franklin, and Debbie J. O'Brien of Bellingham, a brother Irving K. Herrick of Harmony, ME, 3 sisters; Marion Dangelo of Franklin, Ellen Dore and Dorothy Lombard both of Harmony, Maine, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and his faithful canine companion "Chester". Francis was the brother of the late Harland T., Vernal, and Ernest Herrick. Relatives and friends attended his funeral Saturday August 29th, at 9:15 AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St., followed by a funeral service in the Franklin United Methodist Church 82 West Central St. at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Union Street cemetery. Calling hours were Fri. from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Aliza Jean Family Cancer Foundation P.O. Box 124 Harmony, ME 04942. BETTY L. VARNEY

PALMYRA — Betty L. Varney, 75, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 1, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born October 3, 1939 in Jonesport, the daughter of Henry and Laura (Britton) Melanson.
She graduated from Newport High School in 1957. She worked for the local shoe shop hand sewing shoes and later drove a school bus for 24 years. She and her husband had their pilot’s licenses, and enjoyed flying their Cessna airplane. They also enjoyed fishing, tenting, and farming. Betty was a lover of all animals, especially her dogs, who she called her babies. Cooking, country music, and western movies were also great joys for her.
She is survived by her large and loving family, including her husband of 56 years, Millard Varney of Palmyra (their 57th anniversary will be October 15th); 3 daughters, Darlene Cray and husband Dean of Palmyra, Diane Davis and husband Scott of Guilford, and Denise Chamness and husband Mark of Palmyra; son, Dean Varney and fiancé Veda of Palmyra; sister, Darlene Badger of St. Albans; brother, Randy Melanson of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews, including special niece Cassie with whom she spent many special times; grandchildren, Jacob, Deanne, Carey, Elizabeth, Casie, Nathaniel, and Heather, will pass along her beautiful story to her 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Dicky.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Beacon Hospice Team who helped out with her care.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Palmyra Village cemetery.

TIMOTHY ARTHUR GRIGNON

HARTLAND — Timothy Arthur Grignon, 52, passed away September 2, 2015, at his home in Hartland. He was born January 15, 1963 in Dexter, the son of Edward Sylvester and Florence Sonja (Woodman) Grignon.
He attended Nokomis Regional High School. On December 24, 1998 he married Joanne Badger in St. Albans. He was employed by Champ Carpentry, Inc and was president from 2000 to 2008 and was a self employed carpenter. He was a member of the Palmyra Christian Fellowship and enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, ATV riding, doing back flips (gymnastics), dancing, and New England sports.
Tim is survived by his wife, Joanne Grignon of Hartland; 3 daughters, Tamara Pomerleau and husband Joe of Winslow, Carrie Pike and husband Kurtis of Bangor, and Heather Butler and partner Travis McPheters of Guilford; 2 sons, Lawrence Mogor of Orlando, Florida, and Heath Butler and partner Patty Tonche of Hartland; granddaughters, Kaydance Sheridan, Izabella Butler, Ashlynn Vosburgh; grandsons, Logan Almeida, Dominic Vosburgh, Iziah Pike, Xavier Pike, Gavin Butler, and Zander Pike; father, Edward S. Grignon of St. Albans; mother, Florence Woodman Grignon of St. Albans; 2 brothers, Steven Estes and wife Kelly of Hartland, Edward “Buster” Grignon and partner Shelly Dubois of Hartland; 3 sisters, Sonja Tompkins and husband Bob of Hartland, and Debora Grignon of St. Albans, and Julie Whipple and husband Dan of Canaan; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 9 to 11 AM at the Irving Tanning Community Center/Hartland Consolidated School.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in Tim's memory to the Timothy A. Grignon Memorial Fund c/o Florence Grignon, 87 Pond Road, St. Albans, Maine 04971.

JULIA E. NELSON

CORINNA — Beloved wife, Julia E. Nelson, 66, died September 9, 2015 after a long illness. She was born April 19, 1949 in Greenville, the daughter of Charles and Zelma (Ryder) Stevens. She attended Monson schools and graduated from Nokomis Regional High.
Julie had been employed at the Dexter Shoe Company and was a lunch lady at Nokomis Regional High in Newport. She volunteered at Sebasticook Valley Hospital and was a member of the Red Hat Society, Newport Chapter.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dennis Nelson of Corinna; 2 brothers, Charles and wife Gail Stevens of Newport and Kent Stevens of Monson; 3 sisters-in-law, Rebecca Pitcher of Corinna, Roberta and husband Rodney Scott of Garland, and Sue Stevens of New Jersey; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In 2001, she was predeceased by her daughter, Heidi Nelson and brother, Robert Stevens.
Graveside and committal services will be held 2 PM Monday, September 14th at Morse’s Corner cemetery, Corinna, with the Rev. Terry McKinley officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Chapel, Corinna. JANE A. BLAISDELL

RIPLEY — Jane A. Blaisdell, 68, also known as Mimi to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully November 6, 2015 at her Ripley Pond home at 6 Downing Drive with family by her side. She was a loving wife and one of the most wonderful mothers and grandmothers that anyone could ask for. She was married to Raymond for 48 years. They owned and operated the Mainely Crafts Store in Dexter.
In addition to her husband Ray, she is survived by two wonderful sons, Kevin of Eliot, and Brian of Lebanon; as well as her precious grandchildren, Delainy, Ali and Tommy.
Her wishes were to be cremated and her ashes to be placed at the family camp’s pond in Garland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s memory may be sent to Maine Highlands Credit Union, Box 233, Dexter, ME 04930 to benefit the education of her grandchildren.

DEAN A. HENRY

PALMYRA — Dean A. Henry, 59, passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2015 in Canaan. He had worked at Pride, loved fishing, poker and he loved the outdoors. He will be loved and missed by many.
Dean is survived by his mother, Phillis Later; 2 daughters, Kiki Garfield and Renee Bolton; a granddaughter, Ariana; numerous brothers and sisters. Also he is survived by his friends, Benny Flood and Bobby Daigle. He was predeceased by his father and his sister, Rebecca L. Chase.
A celebration of life was held on November 7th. A burial will be held in the spring.

EMMA JEAN GUSTIN

CORINNA — Emma Jean (Saunders) Gustin, 80, passed away October 29, 2015 at a Bangor hospital.
She was born February 16, 1935 in Houlton, a daughter of Thomas and Dora (McKinnon) Saunders. She attended Houlton High School and when she was in her 30’s she went to night school at Nokomis Regional High and received her diploma.
Emma Jean worked at the Dexter Shoe Company, Snowflake Canning Company, Project Ride, and was a caregiver for several people. She was a great seamstress and cook, especially for making the best yeast bread in the family. She also enjoyed gardening, yard saling, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Blakena and husband Jeffrey Scott of St. Albans, and Holly and husband George Mullis of Corinna; 3 sons, Patrick and wife Laurie Gustin of Corinna, Kirk and wife Cassie Gustin of St. Albans, John Gustin of Corinna; and stepson Delmont and wife Sue Benjamin of New York; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Emma Jean was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Gerald Gustin, her youngest daughter Elaine Davis; grandsons, Little John Gustin, Donald Davis Lovley, and Mark Gustin; brothers, Willis, Ralph and Charles Saunders, and sister Lois Clark.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Stillwater Health Care in Bangor, where she was known as “the Queen” for her beautiful clothes, jewelry, scarfs and hats. Many found her to be humorous, not knowing what she would say next. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to visit her and found her also to be very entertaining.
Family and friends called from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, November 2nd, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services were held at 2 PM on Tuesday at Deeper Life Assembly, 97 Higgins Road, Pittsfield. Committal services will be held immediately following the funeral at the Higgins cemetery, Bowden Road, Corinna. All are invited for food and fellowship of Emma Jean’s life at the church following the committal service. Friends and relatives who wish may make memorial donations in Emma Jean’s memory to Deeper Life Assembly.

CAROLYN E. REED

HARMONY — Carolyn E. Reed, 97, died peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2015, in Dover-Foxcroft.
She was born on March 19, 1918, in Harmony, Maine, the daughter of Carroll and Bessie (Lacey) Deering. She graduated from Harmony High School, married , raised her family and spent her entire life in her home town.
Carolyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. One of her favorite things was going out to eat every Sunday with her sisters. It was something she looked forward to. She was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed very much.
She is survived by her son, Bruce York and his wife, Connie of Harmony; her daughter, Glenda Sawyer and husband, Arnold, of Gorham; her grandchildren, Bruce Jr, David, Dottie, Vince and Karen; great grandchildren, Jessy, Joe, Vicki, Sam, Colby, Avery, Chad, Tyler, Derek and Mitchell; great great grandchildren, Colton, Noah and Summer; sister, Ruthie Post of Cambridge; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Vi Cookson and Maxine Hardy; and her beloved dog, Misty.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, A. Marble Reed; three sisters, Polly Sawyer, Dossie Rowell and Barbie Hume; two brothers, Francis Deering and Donnie Deering; grandson, Stephen Sawyer; and her beloved pets, Buffy, Honey and Tiny.
The family would like to express their gratefulness for the loving care of mom to Dr. Donald Debois; caregivers, Pam Pomerleau, Cindy Bussell, Nickie Annis, Kelly Branum, Diane Perkins and Kelly Cooper. Your kindness and compassion was so appreciated.
The family will be having a private time of remembrance.

CARL L. CROSS II

PALMYRA — Carl L. Cross II, 54, went to live with the Lord on Wednesday, November 4th 2015. He was born in Hartland to Carl L. Cross I and Judy (Webber) Cross on December 15th 1960. He graduated from Nokomis and lived out his dream to attend Maine Maritime Academy, which he graduated from in 1983 with a degree in engineering. He worked for Cianbro for 20 plus years doing a job he loved. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, tinkering on projects, and being outside.
He is survived by his mother and father, his sisters, Vicki Householder, Rebecca Boyden, and Deborah Collins; his three children, Amanda, Vanessa and Carl; his grandchildren, Dryden, Audrie, Delanie, and Reid; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.
His family will hold a potluck and celebration of his life on Saturday, November 14th from 1 to 3 PM at the Irving Tanning Community Center, 62 Elm Street, Hartland, Maine 04943.
