FLORENCE (MORRISSEY) BRAYSON

EXETER — Florence Mary Caroline Brayson, 96, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, peacefully shutting her eyes and leaving to go with Jesus. She was born December 22, 1919 in Grand Falls, NB, Canada to Harry and Grace (Moran) Morrissey. Her father died while she was very young and her mother later married Harry’s younger brother James Morrissey. They eventually moved to River de Chute, New Brunswick and raised their large family there.
Florence married C. Michael Brayson in 1939, moved to Maine, and raised a family of 9 children, living first in Old Town and then in Exeter. While in Old Town she cleaned homes in the Old Town/Bangor area. After moving to Exeter, she opened her heart and home to care for elderly state hospital patients. Florence was a wonderful cook and loved to feed anyone who came across her path. Even after being admitted to Bangor Rehab more than 3 years ago, her first words of greeting were, “Have you had lunch (dinner, whatever) yet?” She received her G.E.D. at age 70 and was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Snows Parish.
Florence will be remembered by all who knew her for her love of music. She began singing as a child and never stopped. She remembered the words to numerous old time songs and until her last day, could be found sitting in her wheelchair in the hallway singing away, smiling at everyone who passed.
She is survived by a sister, Anita Rattray; a brother James Morrissey; her children, daughters Pearl Hawes and Elvin of Moscow, Doris and Dale Watson of Carmel; Linda and Darrell DeLong of Cape Coral, FL and Sebago; Marie and Paul Fields of Steep Falls. Her surviving sons are Michael Brayson of Franklin, VT, Robert Brayson of Charleston, Jerry and Carol Brayson of Exeter, and John Brayson and special friend Ann Martin of Corinna; son in law Duane Brasslett of Old Town. She is also survived by many adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of whom she loved with all her heart. There are many nieces and nephews scattered all over the world who will miss her as well.
Florence was predeceased by a daughter Charlene (Brayson) Brasslett, and all of her brothers and sisters except for two mentioned.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 16th, at St. Anne’s Church, Free Street, Dexter, with the Rev. Father Emile Dube officiating. Friends called from 9 AM until the time of procession to the church at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Dexter. Memorial donations may be made to a local food pantry.

CHARLOTTE ANN (MCATEE) GRAY

PLYMOUTH — Charlotte Ann McAtee Gray passed away on the morning of February 27, 2016 after a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final days. Charlotte was born January 29, 1937 in Dixmont. She was the daughter of Alexander and Augusta (Straight) McAtee, and attended schools in Plymouth and Newport. Her father trained and drove harness horses, and in her younger years Charlotte was often found at harness racing tracks throughout Maine, either betting on her father’s horses or helping him out in the paddocks.
She married Ralph Gray in 1956. Like a number of Mainers at that time, Charlotte and Ralph lived in Connecticut for a few years with their two daughters before returning to Plymouth. That's where their son was born, and where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Charlotte worked in area woolen mills and shoe shops for many years, before her husband's health forced her into early retirement to become his full-time caregiver. She and Ralph were active in the American Legion, and Charlotte was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Plymouth Grange.
Charlotte was known for her quirky sense of humor - often at the expense of the younger children who would slink away in embarrassment. Only as they got older did they see her humor and some even adopted it! Right to the end she left her family with a good story to be told for years to come. Along with her sense of humor, Charlotte had a love for adventure and fun. She loved country music and was always ready to dance. She was the first in her family to show her children and grandchildren a love of motorcycles and dirt bikes. She loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, walking or just feeding and listening to the birds. She had an uncanny ability to remember everyone's birthdays, numbers, and the nicknames of her younger school mates after many years.
She is survived by sister Shirley Dunivan and husband Berl of Plymouth; her children Toni Pinkham of Orono, Donna Carrigan and husband Don of Walpole, son David and wife Michelle of Plymouth; and a special "son" Bradley Stewart of Lagrange. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Charlotte was predeceased by her wonderful husband of 53 years, her parents and brother Bernard "Sonny" McAtee.
Friends called from 5 to 7 PM Thursday, March 3rd, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Rev. Bob Emrich had a brief time of remembrance and family will share a few memories of Charlotte at 6 PM.
Graveside committal services will be held in the spring at Sawyer cemetery, Plymouth. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074. Written condolences may be expressed at www.CrosbyNeal.com

Ena worked outside the home while the children were growing up but was also the bookkeeper for the family construction company. She will be remembered for keeping exceptional books. She enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and, at an early age, sang on WLBZ and with Pick and the Pine Tree Mountaineers. Even when Alzheimer’s disease affected her mind, she continued to sing hymns with her beautiful voice, blessing the residents and staff at the home with all the correct words.
