Lillian A. Corson

SKOWHEGAN — Lillian A. Corson, 81, a lifelong resident of Skowhegan, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison.

She was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Anson, daughter of Edward R. and Mildred (Conners) Gray. She attended Skowhegan schools.

She married Ralph M. Corson, Dec. 21, 1936, in Skowhegan.

She had been employed by Medwed Shoe Co. and Norrwock Shoe Co. as a handsewer and a handlacer for many years. She enjoyed dancing, knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles, and reading. She loved being with her family and friends.

Survivors include five daughters, Helen Knowles and husband, Gerald, Linda Fanjoy and husband, Victor, all of Skowhegan, Mary Miller and husband, Lawrence, of Norridgewock, Judy Mantor and husband, Dan, of Madison, Donna Parlin and husband, Ricky, of Mercer; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, with a funeral at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens. Donations may be made in her name to the Adult Daycare, Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center, c/o Jamie Doiron, 174 Main St., Madison ME 04950.

Herbert E. Rogers

EMBDEN — Herbert Ellis Rogers, 88, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at his home in Embden.

He was born Dec. 19, 1912, at the Morgan Farm at Dead River, the son of Arthur and Beatrice (Ellis) Rogers. He attended Flagstaff school and graduated from Stratton High School, June 6, 1930. He served in the CCCs for a short time following graduation.

He had worked in area sawmills in Flagstaff, Bingham and North Anson, and had lived in Dead River, Flagstaff, Bingham and North Anson until 1933, when he and his wife moved to Embden.

Herbert liked to work with wood. He made many fine pieces of furniture in the shop next to his home for his family, who greatly appreciated them. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Polly, for several years until her death May 7, 1997.

Four brothers, Robert, Lee, Guy and Frank Rogers also died previously.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy McLean of Embden, Judy Strout of Hull's Cove, and Jane Mole of Polson, Mont.; nine grandchildren, Gerald, Dale and David McLean, Linda Schick, Peter and Michael Strout, Alex, Merry Jane, and Erika Mole, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Rogers of Solon, and a sister, Marjorie (Sally) Cole of North New Portland; many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Flagstaff Cemetery in Eustis with the Rev. Arthur Rudman officiating. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Pine Tree Camp for Crippled Children, Pine Tree Society, PO Box 518, Bath ME 04530. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.

Doris E. Striar

BANGOR — Doris E. Striar, 90, of 9 McKinley St. in Bangor, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, after a long and productive life, during which she established a reputation for devoted friendship, joi-de-vivre and for not suffering fools gladly.

She was born Dora E. Mazick in Providence, R.I., July 6, 1911, the daughter of Rebecca (Resnick) Mazick and Max Mazick. On her side of the family she is still known as Dora.

She was the wife of Louis Striar of Bangor, who died in 1983. A 50-year survivor of breast cancer, she counseled women that life after that disease could be long and fulfilling. She was for many years, the passionate leader of the Bangor Chapter of Youth Aliyah, an organization devoted to saving Jewish children from Nazi persecution and getting them to what was then Palestine. Afterward, she became and remained an ardent Zionist, who devoted energy and resources to the State of Israel from its earliest beginnings. She was also the enthusiastic supporter of numerous charitable organizations in guiding St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor.

Doris was a member of Congregational Beth Abraham of Bangor where she was a life member of the Sisterhood. She was a lifelong member of Hadassah and Women's American ORT. Doris was also a member of the Jewish Community Council Center Women's League. Doris Striar's greatest love was for children, especially her granddaughters, great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

Doris Striar is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Myles and Lise Lange Striar of Boston, three granddaughters, Siri Striar and her husband, Francisco Hernandez, and their son, Emilio Ariel Striar Hernandez, all of Somerville, Mass., Johanna Striar of Seattle, Wash., and Maria Striar of New York City; and a sister, Sarah Saklad of Providence, R.I.

She was predeceased by a brother, Morris Mazick.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor, under the direction of Rabbi Fred Nebel. Interment will be at the Beth Abraham Cemetery, Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor. Memorial week will be observed at Doris's home, 9 McKinley St., Monday, immediately following interment until 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Due to the Sabbath, hours will resume 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Services will be held Monday through Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at 9 McKinley St. Those wishing to remember Doris in a special way may contribute in her memory to Youth Aliyah, c/o the Jewish Community Council, 6 State St., Bangor ME 04402-2066; The Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, c/o Susan G. Robin S. Rankin

GARDINER — A celebration of the life of Robin S. Rankin, who died Nov. 20, 2001, was held Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at the Christ Church Episcopal Gardiner. The Celebrant was the Rev. Bruce Alexander, pianist and soloist was Marcia Gallagher, time of remembrances were given by Larry Stewart, Rick Wilson, Anita Benoit, Laurie Dubois and Karol Shaw. Pallbearers were David Benoit, Jim Caston, Rod Dubois, Scott Ferguson, Bob Gurney and Bill Norwood. The committal prayers followed in the family lot at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner. Arrangements were under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.

Delmar A. Cooley

1931-2002

NORTH ANSON — Delmar Alton Cooley, 70, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Solon.

He was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Solon, the son of Wallace and Alma (Casey) Cooley.

Delmar was married Oct. 6, 1957, in North Anson to Glynes Lynds. He had been a resident of North Anson for the past 44 years and previously lived in Solon.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Glynes W. Cooley of North Anson; a sister, Vonetta E. Cooley of North Anson; three nephews and a niece.

A private graveside service will be held. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.

Armance M. Poissonnier

1906-2002

WATERVILLE — Armance M. Poissonnier, 95, of Waterville, died Saturday evening, June 1, 2002, at Oak Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center in Waterville after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 5, 1906, in St. Francoise, Canada, daughter of Alphonse and Alice (St. Jean) Boucher.

She was employed for many years at Mount Merici Convent and at Waterville Osteopathic Hospital in the kitchen until she retired.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alphie Poissonnier, whom she was married to for 47 years, who passed away May 23, 1994.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie Ouellette of Waterville; her stepbrother, George Myron of North Branford, Conn.; special niece, Theresa Roberge and her husband, Ernest, of Waterville; her grandchild, Michelle Ouellette of Waterville; several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 3 and 4, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A funeral will be held at a time to be announced, Wednesday, June 5, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 112 Silver St., Waterville. Committal prayers and burial will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.

Jason James Quimby

1981-2002

RANGELEY — Born in Farmington at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Aug. 6, 1981, Jason passed this life on Thursday, May 27, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident while returning from a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., with his brother and some friends.

Jason was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and baseball. He was a dedicated Boston Celtics fan with Larry Bird being his idol and favorite icon. It was a rare occasion for Jason to miss either a Celtics basketball game or a Red Sox baseball game. Jason constantly amazed his friends and family with hisgifted knowledge of sports trivia. Jason loved watching and attending NASCAR races, with Dale Earnhardt No. 3 being his favorite driver.

Jason attended both Rangeley and Gorham High Schools in Maine as well as one year at Orange High School in Hillsborough, N.C. Jason was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout and he loved to listen to and record music and enjoyed playing cribbage with his grandparents.

After experiencing life in Alaska for a year-and-a-half, Jason returned to North Carolina in February 2002 and was currently employed at Sports Endeavors in Hillsborough, N.C., where he made numerous friends with his always friendly disposition and that never ending smile. He was very good with children and as they looked up to him for support, as a gentle, loving person. He was very influential in a child's eyes.

Jason will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his family and friends. He is survived by his father, Arlow Tinker Quimby, of Hillsborough; his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Clifford Raymond, of Gorham; a sister, Deanna Dunham of Coplin Plantation; two brothers, Adam Quimby of Hillsborough and Nicholas Dunham of Bangor; grandparents, Jackie McGarvey and the late Russell McGarvey of Rangeley; grandparents, Barbara and Duane Quimby of Rangeley; a great-grandmother, Thelma Poland of Steuben; a niece,Maya, and a nephew,Adrian, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Main Street, Rangeley, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. Committal services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Rangeley. Following the services, all are invited to a comfort meal at the church undercroft, hosted by the ECW. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Deidra and Jason Quimby Memorial Fund (c/o Barbara Quimby), PO Box 48, Rangeley ME 04970. Arrangements are in the care of Wiles Funeral Home of Farmington.

William F. Turner

1947-2002

CHELSEA — William Fennell Turner, 55, of Chelsea, beloved husband of Celeste and loving father of Ben and Adam, died unexpectedly Friday, May 31, 2002, at his home.

He was born May 25, 1947, in New York City, New York. In 1951 Bill's family moved to Togus, where his father, Dr. Fennell P. Turner, worked as the Chief of Surgery at the Veterans Administration Center for more than 30 years.

Bill attended Cony High School in Augusta and Erskine Academy in South China and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy on the USS John F. Kennedy during the Vietnam era. Upon completing his tour of duty, he attended the University of Maine at Augusta, where he met his soul mate and time-traveler Celeste Rancourt. They were married in December of 1970 and Bill continued his studies and graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in mathematics.

Bill worked as a marine worm digger for many years in the Wiscasset tidal region. He was a man of nature. He was a sustainable wood harvester at his Chelsea home, which he built with the help of Celeste and their sons, Benjamin of Augusta and Adam of Portland. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family, leaving them with fond memories of weekly visits to the family summer cottage on Damariscotta Lake and their annual tenting pilgrimage to Prince Edward Island.

Bill was well known for his patience, quiet strength and good nature, which earned him the nickname "Cool Breeze" at the State Bureau of Health and Vital Statistics where he worked as a computer programmer analyst for several years. Bill was also a Real Estate Broker and a member of the Kennebec Valley Board of Realtors.

He was predeceased by his mother, Vera Alice (Thompson) Turner, on Nov. 24, 1998, and his father, Dr. Fennell Parrish Turner, on April 23, 2002.

In addition to his beloved wife and loving sons, he is survived by his sister, Margaret T. Schuler and her husband, Kenneth, of Buckfield; brothers-in-law, Kenn Rancourt and wife, Jocelyne, of Auburn, and Peter Rancourt and wife, Kristan, of Hermon; sisters-in-law, Dianne Cates and husband, Gerry, of Waterville, and Sheila Bonefant and husband, Don, of Oakland; an uncle, John Pickett Turner and his wife, Jeanne, of Juno Beach, Fla., and an aunt, Sally Turner of Vero Beach, Fla.; special lifelong friends, Lew and Laura Randall of Waterboro, Peter and Debe Loughlin of Gorham, Reg and Jane Harvey of Wallingford, Conn., and several nieces, nephews, greatnieces, greatnephews, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Staples Funeral Home, Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Bill's life will be held at St. Joseph's Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Jefferson Village School Playground Fund, c/o Robert McDaniel, Jefferson Village School, 37 Washington Road, Jefferson ME 04348; or to the Chelsea Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Joseph Mills, Hallowell Road, Chelsea ME 04330; or to the charity of one's choice.

Grace K. Wyman

1911-2002

PITTSFIELD — Grace K. Wyman, 91, of Pittsfield, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Sebasticook Valley Nursing Home in Pittsfield.

She was born March 13, 1911, in Plymouth, daughter of Hanson and Gillian (Edminster) Cookson. She graduated from Maine Central Institute, class of 1931, and attended Beal's Business College in Bangor.

She was the widow of Weldon F. Wyman, who died in 1967.

She worked in area woolen mills, most recently Wright's Woolen Mill.

She was a member of Pittsfield First Congregational Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Alvah and Mildred Wyman of Palmyra; two granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa and Ron Allen of Raleigh, N.C., and Lory and Charles Glidden of Pittsfield; two sisters, Novella Rogers and Lucille Weed, both of Pittsfield; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at First Congregational Church, Park Street, Pittsfield. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery in Pittsfield. Arrangements are under the direction of D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, PO Box 423, Pittsfield ME 04967.

Doris B. Laliberte

1922-2002

WATERVILLE — Doris was survived by daughter Paula Trask and her husband, Carl, of Winslow.
