Carl Walter Maschino

PITTSTON — Carl Walter Maschino, 91, of Route 27, Pittston, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001. at the Robinson Health Care Facility in Gardiner.

He was born in Roslindale, Mass., May 26, 1910, the son of George and Mary Hass Maschino.

Carl was a master millwright for many years. He had been employed for 15 years at Hyde Windless. After his retirement, he spent nearly 30 years operating C. Walter Maschino Sharpening and Sales, in Pittston. During the 1940s and '50s he operated Maschino's Greenhouse, in South Gardiner.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Ayer Maschino, on Sept. 22, 1984, and by his second wife, Margaret Petersen Maschino, on May 5, 1998.

He is survived by his two sons, Jerome E. Maschino, and his wife, Mary, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jacob F. Maschino, and his wife, Vivian, of Pittston; six grandchildren, Jacob F. Maschino Jr., of Chelsea, Mary Mercier, of Gorham, Heather Messer, of Pittston, Karl J. Maschino, of Fairfax, Va., Sara Jadik, of Baltimore, Md., Anna Maschino, of Gardiner; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at St. Joseph's Church, Gardiner. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, South Gardiner.

Arrangements are in the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.

Leo B. Dube

AUGUSTA — Leo B. Dube, 73, of Trueworthy Avenue, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical and Regional Office Center, Togus, after a long illness.

He was born in Drummond, Canada, March 24, 1928, the son of Emile and Bertha (Albert) Dube.

Mr. Dube was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a prisoner of war during the Korean War while serving in the Army.

He had been employed by Hudson Pulp and Paper where he worked for 25 years. He also owned and operated Dube's Garage for 14 years. Mr. Dube was a member of Abnaki Council 334 Knights of Columbus, Le Club Calumet since 1949, Cushnoc Senior Citizens, Catholic Order of Foresters and was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Edgar Post 1.

He was predeceased by a brother, Romeo Dube, and a great-grandchild, Calib L. Dube.

Mr. Dube is survived by his wife of 49 years, Adela "Della" (Page) Dube, of Augusta; three sons, Robert R. Dube, and his wife, Ann, of Vassalboro, Paul E. Dube, of Wilton Manners, Fla., and Bertrand L. Dube, and his wife, Paula, of Vassalboro; two daughters, Barbara A. Forbes, and her husband, Keith, of Glenburn, and Carol M. Cloutier, and her husband, Greg, of Old Orchard Beach; a brother, Laurent "Larry" Dube, of Augusta; a sister, Laurette Zita Bolduc, of Lewiston; and an uncle, 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Officers and members of the Calumet Club are asked to meet at 7 p.m., members of the Disabled American Veterans are asked to meet at 7:15 p.m., and officers and members of Abnaki Council 334, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, are asked to meet at 7:30 p.m. to recite prayers for their departed member.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will follow in the new Maine VeteransMemorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 5 Kendall St., Augusta 04330 or to the DAV Association, c/o Gary Burns, DAV Office, P.O. Box 3151, Togus 04330.

Those who cannot attend the services may leave condolences on the funeral home Web site at www.plummerfh.com.

Peter R. Cummings

PITTSTON — Peter R. Cummings, 44, of Stage Road, Pittston, died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 14., 2001 at his home.

He was born in Gardiner, July 26, 1957, the son of Robert C. and Bernice E. (Brigham) Cummings.

A graduate of Gardiner High School Class of 1975, he was a self-employed carpenter.

He had relocated in 1975 to Phoenix, where he had been employed as a carpenter, building custom-built homes. He moved in 1985 back to Maine, where he continued building custom-built homes in the Freeport and Falmouth areas.

Peter enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the outdoors.

He is survived by his brother, Richard (Dick) Cummings, and his wife, Patty, of Pittston; two nephews, Dominic Bunker, of Randolph, and Jason Cummings, his wife, Tracy, and their daughter, Jada, of Skowhegan; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the First Congregational Church of Pittston, with Rev. John Pokrifka officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Pittston.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Uplift Inc., Outer Central Street, Hallowell 04347.

Nikita Botkin

RANDOLPH — Nikita Botkin, 75, of Randolph, died on Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at the MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch in Augusta after a long illness.

Mr. Botkin was born in Antibes, France, Jan. 8, 1926, the son of Gleb and Nadine Konshin Botkin.

He was the grandson of the personal physician to the family of Russian Czar Nicholas II. The Bolsheviks killed his grandfather in 1918, along with members of the Czar's family. Nikita's father escaped across Siberia and was rescued by the Japanese. Nikita Botkin's family settled on Long Island, N.Y., where he attended school through high school.

He served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked in advertising for McGraw-Hill, in New York City, and in local government for Montgomery County, Md., until his retirement in 1977. In Montgomery County, he was the head of the county's Division of Printing and Mail Services.

Mr. Botkin moved in 1989 to Randolph, where he had been active in community affairs. He served as a Randolph selectman from 1992 to 1996, and was safety officer of the Randolph Fire Department. He was a member of the Gardiner Ambulance Committee, and served on the Gardiner Area Wastewater Committee, the Randolph Budget Committee and the Randolph Planning Board.

Nikita Botkin is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ruth Botkin, of Randolph; four children, Clinton Botkin, of Damascus, Md., Kris Cox, of Williamsburg, Va., Sandra Holcomb, of Damascus, and Theresa Randall, of Gaithersburg, Md.; three stepchildren, John Norris, of Mount Airy, Md., Jeanne Norris, of Germantown, Md., Jim Norris, of Boyds, Md.; two sisters, Kyra Botkin, of Augusta, and Marina Schweitzer of Great Falls, Va.; and five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and two great-grandsons,

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Congregational Church, United Church Christ of Gardiner. If desired, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec Valley, or the Randolph Fire Department.

Arrangements are in the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.

Barbara Jane Oak

PEORIA, Ariz. — Barbara Jane Oak, 60, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at her home in Peoria.

She was born in Augusta, Maine, and moved to Arizona from Hallowell, Maine, in 1982.

She worked for the Bank of Maine in Augusta for 20 years, then for American Express in Phoenix for 16 years.

Her survivors include her brothers, Norman Oak, of Sabattus, Maine, Earl (Barbie) Oak, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Robert Oak, of East Groenbush, N.Y.; her sisters, Elsie Hamilton, of West Springfield, Mass., Norma Peddle, of Phoenix, and Dorothy Ryder, of Lincolnville, Maine; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 North 103rd Ave., Sun City, Ariz.

Contributions in her memory are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Walter T. Anthony

SEABROOK, N.H. — Walter T. Anthony, 71, of 88 Folly Mill Road, died Oct. 15, 2001, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass.

He was born June 11, 1929, in Augusta, Maine, the son of Sidney S. and Aline E. (Palisoul) Anthony.

Mr. Anthony was a graduate of Maine Central High School and the Institute, of Pittsfield, Maine. He was an aircraft mechanic for United Airlines at Boston's Logan Airport for 45 years.

He was a veteran of the Navy, serving during World War II.

He was a member of the Down East Fish & Game Society of Maine; the International Association of Machinists Local 1726, of East Boston, Mass.; the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association; and the Northern Timber Cruisers, of Millinocket, Maine.

Family members include his wife, Johanna H. (Owen), of Seabrook; one son, Sidney S. Anthony, of Seabrook; and one daughter, Gretchen L. Anthony, of Seattle.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, N.H., where . a service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. Burial will occur in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.

Peter Mark Peaslee Jr.

JEFFERSON — Peter Mark Peaslee Jr., 16, passed away Nov. 24, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Peter was born in Rockport, May 30, 1985, the son of Peter and Lucille Leigh Peaslee, Sr.

He attended Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta, where he studied academics, building maintenance and his favorite, heavy equipment. He was also a student at Gardiner Area High School and was working hard to complete his studies so that he could graduate early and go to work in his family's construction business.

Peter loved dirt bikes and riding with his best friend, Billy. He enjoyed spending time and fooling around with his brother and sisters and working with his parents in their construction business.

His family said, "He enjoyed life to its fullest and loved new adventures." He liked guns but was not a hunter. He loved his dog, Dixie.

He loved spending time with his grandparents, who passed away this year. He loved everyone and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Forrest and Bunny Peaslee; and his maternal grandparents, Lucille and Archie Leigh.

He is survived by his parents, Peter and Lucille Peaslee Sr., of Jefferson; a brother, Joey Peaslee, and his companion, Lauri, of Sidney; sisters K.C. Peaslee, of Jefferson, and Denni Lee Peaslee, and her companion, Kyle Crooker, of Jefferson; niece Arizona Lee, of Jefferson; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.

Committal will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Jefferson, with Rev. Warner Howard officiating.

Arrangements are by the Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.

Marie Anne LeBlanc

AUGUSTA — Marie Anne LeBlanc, 86, of Lafayette Street, died Sunday Feb. 3, 2002, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glendridge Drive after a long illness.

She was born in Augusta, Aug. 15, 1915, the daughter of Ovila and Helene (Beaulieu) Sirois.

Mrs. LeBlanc had been employed at Bates Manufacturing Co., Edwards Division for 45 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens and the American Association of Retired Persons, and a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society and the Daughters of Isabella.

Mrs. LeBlanc loved to knit and crochet. She was an avid gardener and liked taking long trips. She was a wonderful homemaker who could really cook.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Dominic and Gerard Sirois; and a sister, Louise Beaudoin.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Florian O. LeBlanc of Augusta; three daughters, Lorette Towns of Mount Vernon, and Constance Bossie and Gloria Dubord, both of Augusta; two sisters, Amanda Zayac and Noella Nowland, both of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where members of Abnaki Council 334 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 7:30 to offer a prayer service for Brother Knight Florian O. LeBlanc's wife.

A Mass of Christian burial will be be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta. Spring burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.

Those who desire may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland 04101-2406.
