Ernest F. 'Bud' Edgerly

TAMPA, Fla., — Ernest F. "Bud" Edgerly, 81, of Tampa, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital, Tampa.

He moved to Florida from Jefferson, Maine, 13 years ago and was retired from Gould Equipment Co., South Portland, Maine. He had been involved in real-estate management for many years after retiring.

He was a past member of the Lions Club, Riverton Couples Club, the Jefferson Grange and the Maine Club of Pasco County. He was a Mason and had participated in numerous minstrel shows in the 1950s and '60s.

A son, Ernest of Brunswick, Maine, two daughters, Linda Swanson of West Lebanon, N.H., and Sandra Russell of Tampa, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren survive him.

A memorial service will take place in Maine at a later date to be announced.

Arrangements are in the care of Prevatt Funeral Home, Tampa.

Patricia Morrison Nason

FAYETTE — Patricia Morrison Nason of Fayette, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at her home. She was 60 years old.

She was born in Conway, N.H., March 30, 1941, the daughter of Frank and Mildred (Delano) Morrison.

She loved spending time with her family and riding her bike. Patricia loved the outdoors and animals, especially her horses.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Clayton; her children, Pam Pettengill and her husband, Paul, George Nason and his wife, Betty, and Karen Nason; and two grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Pettengill.

There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at the Fayette Baptist Church. At the family's request, please dress casually for the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Light Radio Ministry, RR 3, Box 2360, Fayette 04349.

Arrangements are in the care of Cremation Services of Maine, Belfast.

Richard W. Michaud Ph.D

AUGUSTA — Richard W. Michaud Ph.D, 65, of Three Mile Pond, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Dec. 18, 2001.

He was born in Augusta, Nov. 6, 1936, the only child of Wilfred T. and Mary A. (Pelletier) Michaud.

He was raised on Sand Hill, and attended St. Augustine School and Cony High School. Richard graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor's degree in economics and later received his master's degree in social work from Boston University. He worked for several years in the Department of Human Services and served as the director of the Bureau of Maine's Elderly under Gov. Kenneth M. Curtis. In 1983, he earned a Ph.D from Southwestern University in Tucson, Ariz. He then went into private practice as Augusta Counseling Associates.

He was a Maine Guide who loved to travel, hunt and fish, and had a special love for Moosehead Lake. He was a member of the Augusta Elks Lodge and Le Club Calumet, and will always be remembered for his wit and wonderful sense of humor.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sandra, whom he married Sept. 11, 1993; his two daughters, Mary A. Michaud and her companion, David Vintinner of Manchester, and Suzanne M. Pooler and her husband, Michael of Oakland. He is also survived by four stepchildren, Ted Drummond and his wife, Bonnie, Timothy Drummond and his wife, Jeannie, Todd Drummond and his wife, Joanna and Susan Murray, and 9 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Katherine Mary Pooler, in May 2001.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta with Rev. Michael Gendreau, celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Pet Haven Lane, Augusta 04330 or the St. Augustine Restoration Fund, 1 Kendall St., Augusta 04330.

Marjorie Reynolds Walter

HALLOWELL — Marjorie Reynolds Walter, 92, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

She was born in Stamford, Conn., March 22, 1909, the daughter of Lester G. and Helen E. (Buxton) Reynolds.

Mrs. Walter received her education in Connecticut schools and had been employed by the Maine State Liquor Commission, retiring in 1969.

She was a volunteer at MaineGeneral Medical Center for several years and was an active member of the Winthrop Center Friends Church in East Winthrop.

She will be lovingly missed by her family and many friends who knew her as an amazing gardener, an avid reader and a constant knitter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; a daughter, Marilyn; and two brothers, Ray and Ken.

She leaves behind two daughters, Gail Perry and her husband, Courtland, of Augusta, and Phyllis Hughes and her husband, Harry, of Lusby, Md.; a brother, Douglas Reynolds, of New London, N.H.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.

Memorial and graveside services will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Winthrop Center Friends Church, 80 Winthrop Center Road, Winthrop 04364.

Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 68 Second, St., Hallowell.

Doris M. Chick

SOUTH PORTLAND — Doris Mabel Chick, 95, a resident of South Portland, died Feb. 3, 2002, at South Portland Nursing Home, where she was a resident.

Born in Monmouth, Dec. 22, 1906, she was the daughter of Arthur J. and Mabel T. (Millay) Chick.

A graduate of Bates College, she taught for many years in the school systems of Gray and Caribou, and Danbury, Conn.

Miss Chick was a member of the Congregational Church of South Portland and its Women's Fellowship, the Women's Literary Union, Connecticut State Teachers' Association and the National Education Association.

She is survived by a sister, Gertrude Chick of Portland, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers George H. Chick, Benjamin Chick and Arthur Chick Jr; and sisters Martha Kinney, Annie Pratt and Marian Chick.

A graveside service will be held at Ridge Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Monmouth, in the spring.

Arrangements are in the care of Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, Monmouth. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Arthur J. Chick Scholarship Fund, c/o Monmouth Academy, Academy Road, Monmouth 04259.

Frederick Kent

FARMINGTON — Frederick "Ralph" Kent, 98, of Farmington, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

Frederick, who always liked to be called "Ralph," was born at Fayette Corner, March 10, 1903, the son of Frederick Toman Kent and Lillian (Staples) Kent. He was a direct descendent of the founder of Kent's Hill School (the fifth or sixth generation), where he graduated. He married Celia Knight in 1924 and was married for 62 years, until her passing in 1987.

During their life together, they ran a dairy farm, which they acquired in 1943, in East Vassalboro for many years until he gave up farming in 1962. They belonged together to East Kennebec Pomona Grange 25.

Ralph also belonged to Vassalboro Grange 322 (1926), where he received his 25-year silver star certificate in 1951 and became a 50-year Golden Sheaf member in 1976; Neguemkeag-Vassalboro Lodge 54 (1946), where he held the Lodge's Golden Cane as "eldest member," which he received in 1994; Sovereign Grand Commanders Council; Scottish Rite Consistory; and the Order of Eastern Star.

In 1989 after falling and breaking his hip, he went to live with his niece and her husband, Barbara and Pete Gordon, in the Fairbanks area, three miles north of Farmington. He remained in their home until his move to Jacob's Ladder Boarding Home in Madrid in 1999. He remained there for two years, until he went to Edgewood Living Center in Fairbanks.

In 1991 he traveled with his nephew, Eugene Kent, to England in search of the "Halls of Kent" and was able to received valuable information on its location.

Survivors include his sisters, Thelma Farwell of Windham, N.H., and Betty Clark of Millbury, Mass.; his niece, Barbara Gordon of Fairbanks, and nephew, Eugene Kent, of Hudson, Fla., and many other nieces and nephews in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine.

He was predeceased by his wife, Celia Knight Kent, and his sister, Theda Tohlke of North Hampton, N.H.

A graveside service will be held in the spring under the direction of the Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park St., Waterville.

Franklin 'Butch' Burnham

1947-2002

WINTHROP — Franklin "Butch" Burnham, 54, of Winthrop, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at his residence after a long illness.

Butch was born in Lewiston, June 16, 1947, the son of Reginald and Velma (Keene) Burnham. He attended schools in Monmouth and Winthrop.

Prior to his illness, Mr. Burnham worked for Aetna Pumps, AMS and the paper mill in Jay.

Butch enjoyed hunting, ice fishing and everything to do with National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, once winning a trip to see the Daytona 500 in Florida. He even raced his own stock car at Oxford Plains Speedway in the 1970s. When not tinkering in his garage, Butch could often be found driving around town in his prized truck.

Mr. Burnham was predeceased by his half-brother, Kirk Burnham, in 1997, and his father, Reginald Burnham, in 2001.

He is survived by his son, Darin Burnham and his wife, Leanne, of Waterville; his mother and stepfather, Velma and Clifford Quinney of Spring Hill, Fla., and Winthrop; his brother, Ron Burnham of Winthrop; his stepmother, Patricia Burnham of North Monmouth; two half-sisters, Karen Burnham of Leeds and Kimberly Torza and her husband, David, of South Windsor, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Susan Burnham of North Monmouth, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Spring burial will be in the Glenside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham Mass. 01701-4688.

Clifford A. Fortier Jr.

1925-2002

AUGUSTA — Clifford A. Fortier Jr., 77, of Cony Road, formerly of Oakland, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Maine Veterans' Home, Augusta, after a long illness.

He was born in Jackman, March 19, 1925, the son of Clifford A. Fortier Sr. and Mary-Ann (Chamberland) Fortier-Baker.

Cliff served honorably in the Marine Corps during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient.

He had been employed by Care Free Homes of Winslow for 15 years and was previously employed by Gardiner Paper Mill for 5 years.

Cliff was a member of American Legion Post 5 of Waterville and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps League.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan (Morneault) Fortier, and a stepdaughter, Diane Poulin.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Carol Champagne of Augusta; two half-sisters, Deanna Allarie and her husband, Roger, of Augusta, and Joan Lapointe of Bradenton, Fla., and Old Orchard Beach; four stepgrandchildren, Scott and Roger Poulin, Richard Millett and Lori Gagnon; six step great-grandchildren; a stepson-in-law, Roger Poulin Sr. of Augusta; a nephew and several cousins.

At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be offered Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will follow in the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Capitol Campaign, St. Andrews Street, Augusta 04330.

Arrangements are in the care of Plummer Funeral Home, Augusta.
