Nancie E. Gagne

1932-2002

RICHMOND — Nancie E. Gagne, 69, of North Street, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta.

She was born in Gardiner, Nov. 26, 1932, the daughter of Corneilus and Marguerite (Davidson) Murphy and graduated from Gardiner High School.

Nancie was a member of American Legion Post 132 Women's Auxiliary, Richmond. She enjoyed playing bingo, family functions and spending time with her grandchildren.

She also worked in the home health-care industry for several years.

Nancie was predeceased by her parents and brother, Corneilus Murphy.

She is survived by her sons, David Gagne of Litchfield, Daniel and his wife, Melissa Gagne, of Litchfield, and Douglas and Sean Gagne of Sabattus; daughters Darcie and her husband, Dale Oakes, of West Gardiner, Dawna Harris of Winthrop; sisters Joanie and Pattie; a brother, Michael; and her close companion, Spike Guiou of Richmond; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at Kincer Funeral Home, 14 South Pleasant St., Richmond, with the Women's Post 132 Auxiliary Unit holding a ceremony at 6:30, continuing with the memorial service at 7 p.m. with Father Blanchette officiating.

Dwain F. Haskell

1964-2002

PALERMO — Dwain Francis Haskell, 38, of Palermo, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Morrill of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born in Waterville, Feb. 19, 1964, a son of Francis (Bill) Haskell and Beverly (Willoughby) Haskell, both of Palermo.

He enjoyed driving trucks and attending stock-car races. He won second place in a pulp-loading competition at the Fryeburg Fair.

Survivors include one son, Brandon J. Haskell of Palermo; his mother, Beverly Haskell of Palermo; his father, Francis Haskell and special friend, Catherine Cleaves, of Palermo; his brother, Dusty and his wife, Pam, of Palermo, and brother and "best friend", Dwight and a special friend and companion, Linda Whiteside of Liberty; one sister, Dawn Haskell and special friend, Martin Witham, of Waterville; especially close friends Debbie, Brandon and Morgan Galloway of Liberty; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home-Gray Chapel, Windsor Neck Road, Windsor, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, with the Rev. Edward L. Hatch officiating. Interment will follow at the Smith Cemetery in Palermo.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 87 Elm St. Suite 203, Camden 04843.

Ruth P. Morrill

1910-2002

AUGUSTA — Ruth P. Morrill, 91, of Augusta, formerly of Brewer, wife of Adrian J. Morrill, died March 31, 2002, at an Augusta health-care center after a brief illness.

She was born in Brewer, April 23, 1910, the daughter of Benjamin and Edna (Clatt) Petrie.

Ruth was a 1929 graduate of Brewer High School and a graduate of Beal Business College. She worked for the Eastern Corp. in Brewer for a few years before starting her family.

Ruth lived in Brewer for many years where she was a member of St. Teresa's Parish. She lived in Augusta for the last 25 years where she was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish. Ruth was an avid gardener enjoying her house plants and was known to have had a green thumb. She will be remembered by many friends and relatives in the Brewer and Augusta areas and she will be remembered by the staff of Gray Birch, Augusta, where she received excellent care and made many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Adrian J. Morrill; two brothers, four sisters, and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Morrill.

Surviving are one son, John P. Morrill of Augusta; four grandchildren, Steven Morrill and his wife, Wendy, of Old Town, David Morrill and his wife, Cheryl, of Holden, Tracey Pomroy and her husband, Robert, of Glenburn, and Belinda Morrill of Old Orchard Beach; one stepgrandchild, Elizabeth Clark of Lincolnville; and several great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Joel R. Cyr, pastor, celebrant.

Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of departure for church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Brewer, later in the spring.

Merilda Paradis

1921-2002

AUGUSTA — Merilda Paradis, 80, of Fuller Street, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 30, 2002, at her home.

She was born in St. Benoit, Canada, Sept. 12, 1921, the daughter of Vital and Valerie (Thibodeau) Poulin.

Merilda had been employed by Gardiner Shoe as a fancy stitcher for 38 years. She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society and the American Association of Retired Persons.

She was a devoted wife and companion to both of her husbands. She was predeceased by her first husband, Adrien Tardiff, in 1970; her second husband, Adelard Paradis, in 1998; and two sisters, Yvonne Bineau and Rose Tondreau.

Survivors include three stepsons, Leon Paradis of Florida, Donald Paradis of Windham and Patrick Paradis of Augusta; a stepdaughter, Joan Houghton of Yarmouth; a brother, Avenant Poulin of Augusta; four sisters, Valeda Quirion, Albertine Poulin, Alphonsine Lachance and Simone Poulin, all of Augusta; eight stepgrandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews; and several cousins and several special friends.

Relatives and friends may visit 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where officers and members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 9:30 a.m. to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Kendall Street, Augusta. Burial will be in the spring at St. Augustine Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 5 Kendall St., Augusta 04330.

Dorothy (Bourque) York

1918-2002

COOPERS MILLS —Dorothy (Bourque) York, 83 of Rockland Road, who most recently resided at Windward Gardens, Camden, departed this earth to walk with her Lord on Saturday, March 30, 2002, from Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Dorothy, known to friends and family as "Dotty", was born in Waterville, Oct. 30, 1918, a daughter of Henry J. and Adelina (Chapais) Bourque, the youngest of three children.

She was a graduate of Waterville High School. In May 1946 she married Walter R. York of Coopers Mills, where she resided most of her life.

She worshipped regularly at St. Giles Episcopal Church in Jefferson, where she sang in the choir for many years.

Mrs. York had been an active member of the Rebekahs Lodge in Coopers Mills and a life member and past Matron of Lake View Chapter 179, Order of Eastern Star, in Jefferson. She was also a grand representative for the Eastern Star, providing her with the chance to do what she loved, to travel around the country and to attend meetings.

She had been employed by Central Maine Power Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1979.

Mrs. York was predeceased by her husband, Walter R. York; a brother, Royal Bourque, and a sister, Hilda Fletcher.

She will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by her children, Brian R. York and his wife, Diane, of South China, and Roberta G. York and her long-time companion, Thomas Palmer, of Augusta; her beloved grandchildren, Jason, Erin and Adam York; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4 in the Fr. Leonard Leclair Memorial Chapel at the old Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.

Arrangements are in the care of Plummer Funeral Home, Augusta.

Richard Donald 'Don' Gregoire

1926-2002

AUGUSTA — Richard Donald "Don" Gregoire, 75, of Glenridge Drive, formerly of York Street, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge after a long illness.

He was born in Sanford, Oct. 18, 1926, the son of Simeon D. and Maude (Pierce) Gregoire.

Mr. Gregoire was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta, and was a former member of Abnaki Council 334 Knights of Columbus.

He was a self-employed painter and owner of Dick Gregoire Painter and Paper Hanger.

Mr. Gregoire was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond Gregoire and Wilfred Gregoire.

Mr. Gregoire is survived by his wife, Constance E. (Cote) Gregoire of Augusta; two sons, Michael B. Gregoire of Augusta and Stuart R. Gregoire of Castleton, Vt.; three brothers, Leonard P. Gregoire of Augusta, Simeon D. Gregoire Jr. of Leavittown, Pa., and Robert Gregoire of Bloomfield, Conn.; a sister, Marlene O'Neill of Manchester, N.H.; six grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maine Chapter, P.O. Box 8730, Portland 04104 or American Diabetes Association, Maine — Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, Conn., 06150-1160.

Arrangements are in the care of Plummer Funeral Home, Augusta.

Arnold service

MANCHESTER — A funeral service for Joseph Edward Arnold, who died May 24, 2002, was held Thursday, May 30, at the Manchester Community Church.

The Rev. Ernest Johnson officiated. Special music was provided by David Stewart, Arthur Pare and Annabelle Curtis. A letter to their father was read by Joe's daughters, Arlene Gagnon and Gail Arnold.

Pallbearers were Herbert Rollins, Alton Hartung, Lionel Gilbert, Ron Newton, John Whitehouse, Tim Whitehouse, Steve Burroughs and David Popolizio. Honorary pallbearer was Howard Schwarz.

Representatives attended from the Manchester Fire Department, Kennebunk Beach Realty, The Flower Cart, Manchester Extension, Rotary Club of Augusta, Togus Veterans Affairs, Winthrop Business and Professional Women's Club, Augusta Chapter, Spirit of America and the American Legion.

The burial took place Monday, June 3, at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Military honors were given by the Kennebec Valley Honor Guard and taps was played by Joe's friend, Roger Whitney. Arlene Gagnon read a poem and the committal prayers were recited by Reverend Johnson. The flag was presented to Joe's wife, Claudia, by Richard Emerson.
