Theodora 'Teddy' Lee Levy

1951-2002

OAK BLUFFS, Mass. —Teddy Levy, of 66 High St., Winthrop, Maine, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 26, 2002, while vacationing with friends on Cape Cod.

Teddy was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Dec. 16, 1951, the daughter of Diane and the late William Smithgall. She lived in several towns in New York state, graduating from Berlin High School in Berlin, N.Y. in 1970.

She moved to Maine in 1977, settling in the old Maxwell farm house (always a work in progress), where she raised not only her own children but touched the lives of numerous others with her Teddy Bear Day Care. Most recently, she worked for Sage Dining Services at Kents Hill School, a job she truly loved because she got to "mother" a bunch of kids again.

Teddy also worked as a waitress in several area restaurants and was a manager at Sally's Steakhouse. She met the love of her life while working at the Senator Inn, and Norm and Teddy were married in December 1980. They spent countless hours together touring the state, from the western mountans to the bays and beaches, all up and down the coast, particularly Popham Beach, which held a special place in her heart.

Teddy was a tireless worker, well known for her tremendous work ethic. But more than anything, she loved a good time. She was always the life of any party. Whether it was a fraternity get-together, a family reunion or a wedding, you could hear Teddy from anywhere in the room, and if there was music, you would always find her on the dance floor.

Teddy loved to cook and watch people eat, especially her family. Her Thanksgiving spreads were legendary.

She will be sadly and forever missed by her husband, Norman of Winthrop; her two children, Gannett of Boulder, Colo., and Esther of Bangor, Maine; her mother, Diane Smithgall of Winthrop; her sister, Gail Smithgall of Readfield, Maine; her brothers, Frank Smithgall of Winthrop and Howard Smithgall and his wife, Brenda, and their children, Nathan and Glen, of Lochbuie, Colo.; a special aunt, Audrey Roesel of Winthrop; and her dear uncle, Steve Jones and his wife, Joann, of Highland Village, Texas, and Harpswell, Maine.

Teddy dearly loved and was loved by her in-laws, Frank and Ann Rowe of South Thomaston, Maine; her sisters-in-law, Kristina Rowe of North Fort Meyers, Fla., Frances Daley and her husband, Thomas, and their daughter, Isabel, of New Haven, Conn., Cheryl Rowe-Deroche and her husband, Peter, and their children, Gabe, Aleda and Annie, of Toronto, Ontario; her great friend, Lois Feith of Winthrop; and numerous cousins and friends throughout the Northeast and Colorado.

In accordance with Teddy's wishes, there will be no funeral. However, there will be a celebration of Teddy's life at our house on High Street at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.

Please, in lieu of flowers, send a donation in Teddy's name to the American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Road, South Portland 04106.
