Magdalena 'Leni' S. Hinterhauser

1916-2002

MOUNT VERNON —Magdalena "Leni" S. Hinterhauser, 85, died unexpectedly at her home Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002.

She was born in Semlin-Franzda, Yugoslavia, Oct. 15, 1916, the daughter of Joseph and Maria Schumacher.

She married Peter Hinterhauser on Oct. 27, 1935, and they had two sons, Mathias and Hermann. They moved to the United States in 1956 and resided in Norwalk, Conn., until moving to Mount Vernon in 1978.

Leni loved to cook original German recipes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter, in 1985.

She is survived by her sons, Mathias Hinterhauser and his wife, Betty, of Mount Vernon and Hermann Hinterhauser and his wife, Joan, of Florida; four grandchildren, Carolyn, Debbie, Peter and Heidi; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Kaleb.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stevens Cemetery in Mount Vernon.

Theodore T. Trott

2002

RANDOLPH — Theodore T. Trott, 76, died unexpectedly at his home Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen Spear Trott; three sons and their spouses, Timothy and Lyra of Gardiner, Tracy and Merri of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Tyler and Carol of Randolph; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Bruce and his family of Eliot.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Thea Trott Pierce.

He was a graduate of Boston University School of Management with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

His professional life began in 1953 with the state of Maine as a statistician/economist, then with the U.S. Department of Labor as a regional economist. He returned to state government as a chief of data processing and then joined a private consulting firm specializing in data processing and criminal justice. He rejoined state employment as a fiscal manager and later as executive director in the field of criminal and juvenile justice. He later directed a juvenile restitution project for the Maine district courts and at retirement in 1991 was serving as a special staff person to the Maine Juvenile Justice Advisory Group, a part of the Department of Corrections. Subsequent to retirement, he worked for several temporary employment agencies, for the Maine Publicity Bureau and for Legal Services for the Elderly.

During World War II, he was a demolition specialist in the south Pacific with the Marine Corps. He built a home in Randolph in 1955 and resided there when in Maine, until his death.

At his request, there will be no service.

Arrangements are in the care of Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner.

Irma A. Morris

1905-2002

WINTHROP — Irma A. Morris, 97, a resident of Leeds, died Friday evening, Nov. 22, 2002, at the Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center in Winthrop where she had been resident since July.

She was born in Turner, April 18, 1905, the daughter of Eugene F. and Elizabeth Martin Alden. Irma received her education in Turner and was a graduate of Leavitt Institute, class of 1923. She also attended Farmington Normal School and taught school in Turner, Leeds and Durham.

She married George G. Morris of Leeds, March 5, 1927, in Auburn. Together they raised five sons and lived all their married life in Leeds. Her husband predeceased her June 20, 1983 and she continued living at her home in Leeds another 19 years.

Many people will remember seeing her as they would ride by, sitting at her kitchen table and looking out her picture window. She looked forward to visits from all her family, especially her grandchildren as they came along, and she enjoyed talking to her friends on the telephone.

In 2001 she was honored by the town of Leeds as its oldest citizen.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Roger and Anna Morris of Leeds, Malcolm (Mac) and Nancy Morris of Livermore Falls, and Wayne and Sheila Morris of Turner; a daughter-in-law, Jean Morris of Turner; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons, Glenn F. Morris, who died April 6, 1978, and Marshall E. Morris, who died Feb. 8, 1996.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at River Grove Cemetery in Leeds.

Foscolo J. Caprio, D.D.S.

1912-2002

PINE POINT — Foscolo J. Caprio, D.D.S., 90, of Scarborough Terrace, died at Pine Point Health Care Center, Nov. 19, 2002.

Born at his parents home in Newark, N.J., Nov. 14, 1912, he was the son of Raphael and Antonette Stefanelli Caprio.

He attended Newark public schools and graduated high school in 1931 as a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Surgery in 1937. While at the University of Pensylvania, he was a member of the Fauchard Dental Society and the Mask & Wig performance group.

In 1938 he opened his dental office in Newark, where he practiced until his retirement in 1976.

He married his beloved sweetheart, Eleanor Garrabrant, Aug. 5, 1939 and lived in Maplewood, N.J., for 53 years until moving to Scarborough to be near his son and daughter-in-law.

He served briefly in the Army Air Force Troop Carrier Command in Indianapolis, Ind., as an officer during World War II.

He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Eleanor, and his loving son, Kenneth and daughter-in-law, Sharon, of Scarborough.

A private burial was held Nov. 25 at Black Point Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Maine Children's Cancer Program, 100 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough 04074.

Verne A. Rowe Jr.

1925-2002

AUGUSTA — Verne A. Rowe Jr., 77, of Augusta died Nov. 25, 2002, at an Augusta hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Hallowell, May 6, 1925, the son of Verne A. Sr. and Lorraine Rowe.

He worked locally in the shoe industry.

Verne was predeceased by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lorraine Rowe of Augusta; his children, Verne Rowe III of Gardiner, Patti Bouchard, Mark Rowe and Wayne Rowe, all of Farmingdale, Cheryl Derups of Hallowell, Cindy Webb of Augusta and Glenn Rowe of South China; a brother, Edward O. Rowe of Farmingdale; two sisters, Joy Noland of Hallowell and Judy Lizotte of South Berwick; 11 grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 2-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Kennebec Valley Assembly of God in Chelsea. Flowers will be accepted at the church 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Arrangements are in the care of Cremation Services of Maine, Belfast.

Philip L. Getchell

1918-2003

AUGUSTA — Philip L Getchell, 84, died Jan. 25, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Gray Birch Drive, Augusta.

He was born in New Sharon, Aug. 31, 1918, the son of Albert Ervin and Helen M. (Seavey) Getchell. He was educated in the schools of New Sharon and Kents Hill, graduating from Kents Hill School in Readfield.

He married Phyllis G. Hardy in November 1939. She died in August 1989.

He worked with his father at A.E. Getchell Lumber Co. in West Mount Vernon; was in partnership with his father, racing horses; and then worked at O'Connor Buick Pontiac in Augusta for 15 years as a mechanic until he retired in 1984. Later in life he enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling and gardening.

He was a former member of the Mount Vernon Valley Masonic Lodge AF & AM and the Readfield Grange. He was a member of Readfield Senior Citizens and of Dunn's Corner Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Dean Getchell and his wife, Carmelita, of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Olive Vining and her husband, Everett, of Farmington, Alberta Cloutier and her husband, William, of South Portland, and Martha Fifield of Falmouth; two grandaughters, Kimberly Fletcher and her husband, Cliff, of Readfield, Dulcey Laberge and her husband, Michael, of Augusta; a grandson, Shawn Getchell and his companion, Maureen Corrigan, of Brooklyn and Long Island, N.Y.; one great-grandson, Dillon Fletcher of Readfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Philip was predeceased by his wife of 49 years and two sisters, Blandine Buzzell of New Sharon, and Pauline Davis of Wilton.

The visitation time is 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Adams Funeral Home, Court St., Farmington, where a funeral service will follow, with the Rev. John Tolman officiating. Interment will be in the spring at New Sharon Village Cemetery.

Phyllis Whitten Ludwig

2003

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. —Phyllis Whitten Ludwig, 90, of Ormond Beach, formerly of Augusta, Maine, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Ormond Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Augusta. She was a 1933 graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Sorority.

She was a state of Maine retiree and moved from Augusta to Ormond Beach in 1977.

She was an American Red Cross social worker in Guadalcanal and Hawaii during World War II. She was a member of the Women's Club, New Horizons Club and Operda Club, all in Daytona. She was a Pink Lady at Ormond Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and various hand work; and crossword puzzles. She also was an avid bridge player.

Mrs. Ludwig is survived by her stepchildren, Stephen Ludwig of Vero Beach and Charlene Moody of Camden, Maine; two sisters, Arline Wilcox of Ormond Beach and Verne Hinds of Portland Maine; and six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Donations in Mrs. Ludwig's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

George Vannah

1912-2003

WALDOBORO — George Vannah, 90, of Cross Street died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport after a short illness.

He was born in Waldoboro on Aug. 14, 1912, the son of Ernest and Florence (Gross) Vannah.

He had been employed for many years at Medomak Canning Co. in Winslows Mills. George was predeceased by his parents and 13 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Fitch) Vannah; three daughters, Louise Brown and her husband, Nelson, of Jefferson, Nancy Moore of Jefferson, and Bonnie Orff and her husband, Burton, of Washington; one son, Ernest and his wife, Colleen, of Waldoboro; two sisters, Hallie Simmins of Augusta, and Helen Miller of Thomaston; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no service.

Arrangements are in the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, Belfast.
