Cecile Martin Dumas

1919-2002

PORTLAND — Cecile Martin Dumas, 83, of Rangeley, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Nortre-Dame-des-Bois, Canada, Jan. 2, 1919 daughter of Tancrede and Marie Martin. She attended L'École Menagère in Montreal with the Grey nuns.

She married Liniere Dumas May 4, 1940 in Rumford. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1990. Cecile was a very devout Catholic and was a member of Saint Luke's Catholic Church for fifty years. She was also an active member of the Catholic Women's Club.

In July 1952 she convinced her husband to buy the Pine Tree Restaurant in Rangeley. They moved seven children to the apartment over the restaurant and ran it from 1952 to 1974. The Pine Tree Restaurant was home to lots of Rangeley kids. They spent time eating homemade french fries and listening to the juke box. They were always welcome, and many worked there in the summertime. Two more children and the purchase of the Pine Tree Frosty followed. The Frosty was a booming business. In addition to great ice cream, homemade pies and soups lured in the customers.

Cecile loved to knit and crochet. Over the years, she made countless sweaters, mittens and gloves for her loved ones.

In 1984 Cecile and Lynn retired to spend time in their home on Grand View Avenue. For the past eight years, Cecile had taken lots of trips to visit family. She attended graduations and weddings of her grandchildren. Such a proud grandmother ... how she loved her children and grandchildren. Her apartment at the Rangeley townhouse was lined with photographs of all 16 grandchildren and numerous family photos.

Cecile was predeceased by her husband, Liniere Dumas; her brother, Clement Martin from New Jersey; three children, Lisette Lawe, Suzanne Pelletier and Louis Dumas; and one grandson, Nolan Dumas.

Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Rangeley, where a funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Rangeley in the spring.
