2LT Andrew Neal Caldwell
1985-2008
Hampden - Andrew Neal Caldwell, 23, died accidently while hiking on Pike’s Peak in Colorado. Andy passed on from this world on Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Andy was born in Bangor March 3, 1985 to Avery J. and Deborah (Neal) Caldwell. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his incredible work ethic, devotion to others, and love of the outdoors.

Andy grew up in Hampden and attended the local school system there. From a young age Andy always kept busy with youth hockey and track and field. At Hampden Academy, Andy built the most enduring friendships of his life while running cross-country, track and field, as a captain of the hockey team, and in the school band. Through his tireless work-ethic, he was consistently an honor roll student, and a member of the National Honor Society. Andy was commissioned a second lieutenant from the United States Military Academy at West Point in the spring of 2007. Andy’s experiences at West Point played a central role in developing his reputation as a dedicated, common-sense leader. During his time at West Point, Andy competed in the Sandhurst Competition, and attended Mountain Warfare School.
Following his completion of the Infantry Officer Course, Airborne training, and Infantry Mortar Leader Course in Ft. Benning, Georgia; Andy was assigned to the 3-61 Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division out of Ft. Carson in Colorado. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his incredible work ethic, devotion to others, and love of the outdoors.

Andy is survived by his father Avery J. Caldwell of Hampden, his mother Deborah N. Caldwell of Winterport, his brother Matthew N. Caldwell of Orono, Aunts Cynthia M. Neal of Chicago, Priscilla G. Neal-Thompson of Germany, Rebecca I. Cassese of New Hampshire, several cousins and many close friends who will all miss him terribly.

Visiting hours will be held 2-5 P.M., Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden where a funeral service will be held to celebrate Andy’s life at 4 P.M. Monday, October 6, 2008. Interment will be private at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Andy’s memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or Manna Ministries, 629 Main Street, Bangor, ME 04401.

BRENDA J. CONLEY

PRESQUE ISLE - Brenda J. Conley, 53, died Saturday night Nov. 20, 2004, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility after a long illness. She was born Dec. 1, 1950, at Presque Isle the daughter of Milford and Rebecca (Gardiner) Conley. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Class of 1969. She served in the U.S. Air Force for 13 years, and worked in landscaping in Florida. She is survived by her mother, Rebecca Conley of Presque Isle; a son, Donald Z. Smith of Worchester, Mass.; four sisters, Nancy Carmichael of Key West, Fla., Carolyn Fox, Susan Boutot, and Louise Walton; all of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, and a brother, Gary Conley. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Fairmount Cemetery with Pastor Larry Palmer officiating. Donations may be made in memory of Brenda to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St. Suite 160-B, Portland, ME 04101-2406. Arrangements by Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.

MARION E. 'DUDDY' FOLSTER

OLD TOWN - Pastor Ron Chaffee will conduct a celebration of Duddy's life 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, in the Old Town United Methodist Church, a place and community she loved very much and where all are invited to gather after the service to share memories and stories. HELEN M. PAGE

LINCOLN - Helen M. Page, 76, wife of the late George M. Page, died unexpectedly, Nov. 19, 2004, in Lincoln. She was born July 19, 1928, in Burlington, the daughter of Harry J. and Myrtle V. (Sibley) Soucie. Helen was a foster mother for more than 30 years and raised several children. She held that job until the time of her death. She worked for KFI for many years, and at the school. Just a few months ago, she took a job as a greeter at Wal-Mart. She is survived by 10 children, Claudette Day and Charles of West Enfield, Christine Page, Deborah Taylor and Vernon, Susan Pinkham and Timothy Baker, and Lisa Savage and Mike Tibbetts, all of Lincoln; George Page and Bonnie of Farmington, Connie Birmingham, and Michael Page and Nancy, all of Lincoln, Kimberly Thomas of Dover and Thomas Page of Lincoln; two brothers, Howard Shorey and Edythe of Burlington, and David Thompson and Marion of Florida; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, George; she was predeceased by a son, David Allen Page, as well as several brothers and sisters. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tim Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery.

KATHLEEN ALICE (SHOREY) CARPENTER

ORLAND - Kathleen Alice (Shorey) Carpenter, 55, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Dec. 4, 2003, at her home, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born Dec. 11, 1947, in Verona, the daughter of Alice L. (McLeod) and Albert W. Shorey Sr. She graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1966. She worked for many years at the Colonial Travelodge, Ellsworth, and was currently employed at the Bucksport Motor Inn. She enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, doing crafts, traveling to warm places, and going to the beach. Her greatest joy was her daughter and grandchildren. Kay was a special person who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Raymond I. Carpenter, of Orland; her daughter, Lesley Bryant and fianc‚, Eddie Mahoney of Orland; grandchildren, Noelle, Dylan, and baby Jacob due to arrive in January, whom she was looking forward to greeting; step-daughter, Melody Parlan of Penobscot; step grandchildren, Morgan, Megan, and Shawna; sister, Linda Wilbur and husband, Cornelius "Neil," of Hancock; brothers, Albert Shorey Jr. and wife, Sally, of Florida, William Shorey and wife, Gloria, of Bucksport, Roland "Sandy" Shorey of Verona, Stanley Shorey and wife, Roberta, of North Penobscot; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many special friends including Bob and Gail Kenney of Bucksport and Florida, and Frank and Patty Coombs of Prospect. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was predeceased by sister, Eleanor (Shorey) Hackett; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Shorey. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St. Bucksport, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves officiating. Visitation will be 12 p.m. until time of service. KATHLEEN (RAND) FENTON

BREWER and BANGOR - Kathleen Mildred (Rand) Fenton, 81, wife of William T. Fenton, Jr., died Nov. 20, 2004, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born July 14, 1923, in Harrington, the daughter of Harry J. and Julia E. (Nash) Rand. She was a graduate of Harrington High School and attended Machias Normal School. Kathleen was a family person. Her favorite activity was to take the whole family, including the pets, on picnics in the woods, parks or by lakes. Her great love was her camp at Spring River Lake in Hancock County. Kathleen enjoyed so many summers, not only with her immediate family, but with her brother's and sister's families. Surviving are her husband, William T. Fenton Jr. of Brewer; four children, Judith Ann Mason and her husband, Nathan Jr., of Gouldsboro, Nancy Lynn Fenton of Brewer, William T. Fenton III and his wife, Rebecca, of Eastbrook, Karen Janine Bilotta and her husband, Raymond, of Port Orange, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Nathan Mason III, Natalie Raulerson, Donald Grevencamp, Candice Grevencamp, Brenna Fenton, Benjamin Fenton, Daniel Fenton, Nicholas Bilotta, Michael Bilotta, Caitlin Bilotta; six great-grandchildren, Justin Grevencamp, Samantha Mason, Nathan Mason IV, Reilly, Liam, and Griffin Johnson; one brother, Robert Rand of Ellsworth; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Caswell Wood of Ellsworth. She was predeceased by one sister, Geraldine Wood. Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service in celebration of her life will be held at 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Hospice of St. Joseph, St. Joseph Healthcare Park, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.

RICHARD A. WINSLOW

BUCKSPORT - Richard Arthur Winslow, 84, died Nov. 19, 2004, at the Maine Veteran's Home, Bangor. He was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Stockton Springs, the son of Warren and Orrie (Nealley) Winslow. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He worked in various agricultural positions and retired from Delta Chemicals. He loved the outdoors, feeding the birds and squirrels, and the companionship of his cat, Spike. He lived at the Maine Veteran's Home for the last year which he enjoyed immensely, and was well taken care of by the staff. A special thank you is extended to the staff of the E-Unit for the excellent care he received. Richard was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Vivian M. (Palmer) Winslow in 1999; and all of his siblings. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and many friends including those at Bucksport Square Apartments. A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.

MONROE 'BUD' E. CROWLEY

COREA - Monroe E. Crowley died Dec. 22, 2004, after a short illness. He was born March 8, 1924, in Corea, the son of Harvard Crowley and Dorothy (Jordan) Crowley. Mr. Crowley worked in the fishing industry before becoming postmaster of Corea. He retired in 1986 after 29 years of service. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army in the CBI Theater, where he received a Bronze Star, Victory Medal and the China War Memorial Medal. He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 109, member of the American Legion Post No. 207, Franklin Vets Club, 50 year member of the Knights of Pythias Schoodic Lodge No. 129, Pine Tree Basha and Merrill's Marauders Association. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Myrick Crowley; son, Donald M. Crowley and Jynes Albee of Winter Harbor; grandsons, Donald, Michael and Kevin Crowley; niece, Pearl F. Barto and her husband, Roger; nephews, Jacob and James of Winter Harbor. He is also survived by his stepfather, Olis August of New Hampshire; and brother-in-law, Granville H. Follett of Winter Harbor. Bud enjoyed many years of recreational fishing with his dear friend, Emmanuel "Manny" Young and he will miss visiting Ray Perry's R.C. Flying Field. No services are planned until spring. The family suggests that if friends desire, they may make contributions in Bud's memory to the Knights of Pythias, Box 33, Gouldsboro, ME 04636. Arrangements are by Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.

GENEVA M. IRVINE

MATTAWAMKEAG - Geneva M. Irvine, 79, wife of the late George Irvine, died Dec. 22, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born May 25, 1925, in New Canada, the daughter of Billy J. and Laura (Michaud) Gagnon. Geneva loved doing handwork, crafts, knitting, crocheting, sewing. She also enjoyed the many outings she had with her friends. She is survived by a son, Robert P. Irvine and his wife, Janna, of Old Town; a daughter, Rhonda M. Higgins and her granddaughter, Kayla, of Lisbon Falls; two sisters, Dora Dumond and Martha Jarrett, both of Ft. Kent; a brother, Gilman Gagnon and his wife, Lorraine, of Warehouse Point, Conn.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many great friends. In addition to her husband, George, she was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Fisher. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Myles Cyr officiating. Spring interment will be in Mattawamkeag Cemetery.

LYNNE M. (GRAY) KELLETER

ORONO - Lynne M. (Gray) Kelleter, 39, died Nov. 20, 2004, at her home in Orono. A complete obituary and funeral arrangements will be published in Wednesday's edition of the Bangor Daily News by Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer.

MARIA BABIN

FORT KENT - Maria Babin, 88, died Dec. 20, 2004, at a Fort Kent healthcare facility. She was born in Fort Kent, Sept. 13, 1916, the daughter of Noah and Modeste (Gagnon) Michaud. Maria was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 9609 and the Ladies of St. Anne, both of Fort Kent. She also belonged to the Retired Maine State Teachers Association. She taught school in Fort Kent for 36 years. Maria enjoyed arts & crafts and will be dearly missed, especially for her smile. She is survived by four sons, David and his wife, Rose Babin, of Fort Kent, Dana and his wife, Rose Marie Babin, of Plainville, Conn., Don and his wife, Theresa Babin, of Fort Kent, and Robert and his wife, Kathy, of English Town, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to both her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, David Babin Sr. in 1991; two brothers, Ludger Michaud and Raoul Michaud; two sisters, Rita Joseph and Theresa Bouchard. Friends may call at 8 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home in Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Fort Kent, with the Rev. Claude Gendreau officiating. Spring burial will be in the parish Cemetery, May 18, 2005. In her memory, those who wish may donate to the Forest Hill Manor Activity Fund, 25 Bolduc Ave., Fort Kent, ME 04743 or to the Senior Citizen Center, 20 Pine St., P.O. Box 403, Fort Kent, ME 04743. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
