Raymond R. Tobey

WINSLOW — Raymond R. Tobey "Hubcap Man," 40, of Winslow, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus, Waterville.

He was born Dec. 2, 1960, in Winslow, the son of Harold and Rose (St. Onge) Tobey.

He graduated from Winslow High School, class of 1980, and owned and operated Ray's Towing and Snow Plowing. He also sold hubcaps for many years in Winslow. A great NASCAR fan, he sold many NASCAR collectibles.

He was predeceased by his father, Harold Tobey, in 1978.

Survivors include his mother, Rose Tobey, of Winslow; one sister, Carolyn, and her husband, Larry Ricker, of North Vassalboro; one brother, Bernard Tobey, and his wife, Linda, of New Zealand; his grandmother, Edith Farris, of Winslow; and several aunts and uncles.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park St., Waterville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, with Rev. Russell Chase officiating. Spring inurnment will be held in Greeley Corner Cemetery, Palermo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rose Tobey, Route 3, Box 5780, China Road, Winslow 04901.

George J. Wallingford Jr.

AUGUSTA — George J. Wallingford Jr., 75, of Gage Street, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his residence.

He was born in Auburn, Sept. 1, 1925, the son of George J. Wallingford Sr. and Grace (Merrow) Wallingford.

Mr. Wallingford was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

He had been employed as a civil engineer in the papermaking industry for most of his career.

Mr. Wallingford was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness, of Augusta, a former member of Civil Defense and an avid stamp collector.

Survivors include two nieces, Janis Camilleri, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Carol Dawn Walter, of La Habra, Calif.; two nephews, David Woodbury, of Hiram, and Thomas Woodbury, of Houston, Texas; and a cousin, Barkley Goodrich, of Falmouth.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Kingdom Hall, 36 Eastern Ave., Augusta.

Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery, at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

Harry V. Tome

BOWDOINHAM — Harry V. Tome, 72, of River Road, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his home.

He was born in Topsham, July 9, 1928, the son of John and Edna Trufant Tome, and attended Coombs High School in Bowdoinham.

Mr. Tome married Pauline M. Colby in Brunswick, Oct. 2, 1954. Mrs. Tome died Nov. 5, 1977. In 1982, he married Carlyn J. Brawn Tome in Bowdoinham.

He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Tome was employed at Main Street Garage in Bowdoinham for many years, and in 1965 went to work in the Public Works Department at Brunswick Naval Air Station.

He was creative and enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, lunchtime cribbage games at Brunswick Naval Air Station, and was known as a person who could repair anything. He especially enjoyed his family Easter egg hunts.

He was a member of Mere Creek Golf Course, American Legion Post 202, and a founding member of the Bowdoinham 5 a.m. Coffee Club at the Landing Restaurant.

Mr. Tome was predeceased by four brothers, J. Burton Tome, Walter Tome, Frank Tome and Clarence Tome; and three sisters, Olga Moore, Pauline Tourtelotte and Alice Skelton.

Besides his wife, of Bowdoinham, he is survived by a son, Dennis C., and his wife, Rachelle Tome, of Bowdoinham; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Lorrie) Frizzle, of Bowdoinham, and Mrs. Gregory (Debra) Tait and Mrs. Cliff (Sherry) Colville, both of Scarborough; two brothers, Arthur "Buzzy" Tome, of Bowdoinham, and Fred Tome, of Lisbon Falls; three sisters, Carolyn Reynolds and Frances Brawn, both of Richmond, and Christine Litalien, of Bowdoinham; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with American Legion Post 202 conducting a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 30, with Rev. Daniel Joyce officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in the spring, in Bay View Cemetery, Bowdoinham.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nazarene Church of Bowdoinham or Bowdoinham Fire Department, c/o Jack Tourtelotte, Bowdoinham 04008.

Diane N. Carroll

PALERMO — Diane N. Carroll, 50, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001, after an extensive battle with cancer.

She was born June 16, 1950, at Carroll Plantation, and was lovingly raised in Palermo by her aunt and uncle, Merle and Hattie Severance.

Diane attended Palermo Consolidated School and graduated from Erskine Academy in 1969.

She was a caring homemaker and a part-time substitute teacher at Palermo School.

Diane enjoyed her crafts of all types, and touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Robert Carroll, of Palermo; sons, John Carroll, and his wife, Rhonda, of Freedom, and Kevin Carroll, of Palermo; two grandsons, D.J. and Aaron McKinnon, of Freedom.

She also is survived by her half-sister, Gail Nickless; two half-brothers, Kevin and Edward Byers; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Palermo Christian Church.

Friends and relatives may send a donation in Diane's memory to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division, Inc., 52 Federal St., Brunswick 04011.

Leola May Dubreuil

FARMINGDALE — Leola May Dubreuil, 76, of Farmingdale, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the home of her daughter following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 28, 1925, in Nobleboro, the daughter of Orville and Mildred (Vinal) Sidelinger.

Leola worked at Bath Iron Works during World War II, was employed more than 30 years at several local shoe factories, including Hallowell Shoe, and worked as a nurse's assistant at McGinnes Nursing Home.

Mrs. Dubreuil loved animals and was accomplished at crafts, especially crocheting.

She was a longtime member of the Nazarene Church, in Gardiner.

Leola was predeceased by two sisters, Madeline Russell and Katherine Everslage.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Griffin Nason, of Farmingdale; a grandson William Carl Griffin; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Stacy; a brother, Fred Sidelinger; and two sisters, Lillian Rollins and Alice Tracy.

Relatives and friends may visit from noon until a 2 p.m. service Friday, June 1, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Burial will follow, in Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta.

William H. Fisher

PALERMO — William H. Fisher, 48, of Cain Hill Road, formerly of Augusta, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 27, 2001, at his residence.

He was born in Portland, April 10, 1953, the son of Ernest P. Fisher and Rhoda (Harvey) Fisher, and attended Cony High School, in Augusta.

Mr. Fisher served in the Navy during peacetime.

He was employed by B&M Security and Flagging for several years, and was previously employed by Al's Double R Taxi, in Augusta, for many years.

Bill was a member of Second Baptist Church of Palermo.

Surviving are two sons, William L. Stevens, of Hallowell, and Bruce Atter, of Augusta; two daughters, Crystal, and Stacy Atter, of Augusta; two brothers, David A. Fisher Sr., of Palermo, and Michael E. Fisher Sr., of Lake Worth, Fla.; one sister, Mary Tucker, of Walterboro, S.C.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Those who wish, may leave condolences to the family on the funeral home Web site at: www.plummerfh.com.

Diana V.M. Gibson

HALLOWELL — Diana Vaughan Marvin Gibson, wife of George W. Gibson, of Hallowell, died of cancer Monday, May 28, 2001, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Gibson, a sixth-generation descendant of Benjamin Vaughan, who settled in Hallowell in 1797, was named Hallowell Citizen of the Year in 1992.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Union Street, Hallowell. The Rev. Nancy Platt will officiate.

Following the service, everyone is invited to attend a reception at the Vaughan Homestead, Litchfield Road, Hallowell.

Arrangements are by Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, Augusta.

Forest P. Greenier

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. —Forest P. Greenier, 98, of New Port Richey, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Helen Ellis Hospital, Tarpon Springs.

He was born June 4, 1902, in Limestone, Maine, the eldest son of Alfred and Helen Cyr Greenier, of Caribou, Maine.

He was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. most of his life, and worked in the Augusta, Maine, and Presque Isle, Maine, offices as a supervisor, retiring in 1964. As a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, he worked when telephone poles were set by hand and roads in northern Maine were rolled in the winter, not plowed.

He enjoyed the outdoor life, particularly fishing and golf, which he played in Maine during summers and at home during the winter months in sunny Florida until age 92.

He was predeceased by his wife, Laura Garrison Greenier, in 1997, four brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Greenier is survived by one sister, Sadie Monteith, of Trumbull, Conn.; eight children, Elizabeth and Ed Griffin, of Presque Isle, Forest C. and Nancy Greenier, of Winthrop, Maine, Jean and Pete Bartlett, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Donna and Al LaValley, of Bernardston, Mass., Peter and Beverly Greenier, of Mapleton, Maine, Paul and Launa Greenier, of North Monmouth, Maine, Robert Greenier, of New Port Richey, and Andrea and Ed Hicks, of Elfers; 24 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held later this summer, in Westfield, Maine.

G. Jefferson Harris

MADISON — G. Jefferson Harris, 63, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 29, 2001, at his home on Russell Road, Madison.

He was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Portland, the son of George M. Harris and Isabella (Gatten) Harris, and had resided in Madison and Skowhegan since 1958.

Jeff was an elder in the Skowhegan Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed studying the Bible with numerous residents of Somerset County. He enjoyed walking in the woods, gardening, reading vintage westerns, biking and many outdoor activities. He was an accomplished folk and bluegrass guitarist and made an album of folk music as part of the duo "The Two Brothers" in the 1960s.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Mitchell Harris, William Harris and James Harris.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Marlene (Burkhart) Harris; son Matthew E. Harris, and his wife, Melissa, of Hanover, Pa.; a daughter, Gretchen L. Harris, of Rockland; two brothers, Stephen Harris, of Portland, and Eric Harris, of Kittery; five sisters, Virginia Crim, of Gaithersburg, Md., Ellen Cranford, of Savannah, Ga., Linda Petrell, of Milford, Catherine Harris, of Skowhegan, and Alana Shaw, of Athens.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, U.S. Route 201-N, Madison.
