Gertrude A. Meader

OVIEDO, Fla. — Gertrude A. (Dubay) Meader, 84, of 3924 Neele Palm Place, Oviedo, died Thursday, May 17, 2001.

She was born in Anson, Maine, Sept. 17, 1916, the daughter of Joseph Dube and Rosanna Cote, of Anson.

Mrs. Meader was a retired administrative supervisor at Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, N.Y., and moved to central Florida in 1996.

She is survived by her son, James P. Hilton, of Oviedo; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. and Ian G. Hilton, of Oviedo, and Geoffrey W. Hilton, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Madison, Maine.

Arrangements are by Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Oviedo.

Evelyn K. Pushard

GARDINER — Evelyn K. Pushard, R.N., 86, formerly of Gardiner and Farmingdale, where she had lived with her grandson, Rick, and his wife, Melanie, on Outlet Road, died Tuesday evening, May 29, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She had resided the past five months at Walters Boarding Home, in Hallowell.

She was born in Gardiner, Oct. 3, 1914, the daughter of Percy and Mabel Knox, and graduated from Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing in 1937.

Mrs. Pushard was the widow of Clyde S. Pushard, who died Oct. 16, 1974.

She was night supervisor at Gardiner General Hospital from 1960 to 1965. She retired in 1987 following many years of service.

Mrs. Pushard was Past Noble Grand of Eureka Rebekah Lodge of Gardiner.

Four sisters, Virginia Humes, Marjorie Wright, Doreen Austin and Barbara Sprague, predeceased her.

Survivors include two sons, Clyde S. Pushard Jr., and his wife, Anne, of Canton, Mass., and Richard Loring Pushard Sr., and his wife, Charlene, of Chelsea; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 1. Burial will follow, in the family lot in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner.

Contributions may be made in her memory, to First Nazarene Church of Gardiner, Building Fund, RR 5, Box 1460 Gardiner 04345.

Pare service

AUGUSTA — A concelebrated Mass of Christian burial for Robert D. "Babe" Pare, who died May 25, 2001, was celebrated Wednesday morning, May 30, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Richard St. Cyr, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Paul Pare, of St. Paul Center, Augusta, Rev. Gilbert Patenaude, retired, Rev. George Hickey, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hallowell, and Rev. Raymond Lagace, O.F.M., Catholic Chaplain at Veterans Administration Hospital, Togus.

Organist was David Stewart and soloist was Tina Whitcomb. Altar servers were Patrick Jean and Gerard Rouleau.

The first reading was given by Michelle Caliandro and the second reading was given by Richard Roussel. The Offertory gifts were presented by Mr. Pare's brothers, Laurent and Laurier Pare.

There were representatives from the church, Le Club Calumet, officers and members of Abnaki Council 334-3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, officers and members of Abnaki Assembly 346-4th Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Andrew's Catholic Church, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, officers of Maine State Council Knights of Columbus, chaplain's office at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital, Togus, former employees of Augusta Supply Co., Augusta Pipe and Supply Co. and St Paul's Retreat Center.

Honorary pallbearers and honor guards were Sir Knight and Color Corps Commander Robert G. Weymouth, and Sir Knights Jerry Wilson, Keith Richardson, Joseph Majors, Richard Breton, Donald Brawn, Leonard Belanger, Elmer Dalbeck, Ted Frechette, Jerry Pepin, Patrick Jean, David Gauthier, Donald Masse and Ernie Morissette. On Tuesday evening, following the "Ritual of the Dead," service and honor guard duties, the Chalice was presented to Sir Knight Pare's brother, Laurent Pare, by Sir Knight Donald Brawn.

Active pallbearers, all members of Abnaki Council 334-3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, were J. Leo Lachance, Wallace Paquette, Paul Gilbert, Emile Lachance, William Carney and Rodney Waldron.

Burial with committal prayers were offered by Fr. Richard St. Cyr in the family lot in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta.

Arrangements were by Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

Alton J. 'Al' Brooks

JEFFERSON — Alton J. "Al" Brooks, 75, resident of 395 Augusta Rd., Jefferson, died Oct. 16, 2001, at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

He was born in Hartland, Feb. 14, 1926, a son of Frank Brooks and Mabel (Tuttle) Brooks Ames.

Mr. Brooks had been a resident of Jefferson for the past 15 years and had formerly resided in Milford, N.H., for 20 years. He and his wife wintered in Estero, Fla.

He owned and operated Brooks Farm Marine in Jefferson, with his wife. While living in Milford, they owned Brooks Lawn & Garden for 18 years. Mr. Brooks had also been employed at W.R. Grace Co., Nashua, N.H., for several years.

He was a life member of the Harley Sanford Post 4368 VFW, Milford, the VFW, Washington, and American Legion, Waldoboro. Mr. Brooks was raised in Benevolent Lodge 7 F&AM, Milford. He was past master of Riverside Lodge 135 F&AM, Jefferson, a member of the William Pitt Tavern Lodge 1789 F&AM, Strawbery Banke, Portsmouth, N.H. He was a former member of Bektash Temple, Concord, N.H., where he had served as a member of the Color Guard and the Legion of Honor. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Sword of Bunker Hill, Gaspee Order 99, Providence, R.I., Araba Temple, Fort Myers, Fla., where he was member of the Tin Lizzies, Kora Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Lewiston, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Lodge Council Chapel Consistory, Valley, of Nashua. He was a former member of National Campers & Travelers.

He was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Whitefield.

Mr. Brooks was an Army veteran, having served in World War II, and was a member of the 76th Division. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal Medal, U.S.A. Commendation Medal, U.S.A. Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Purple Heart Medal and the Bronze Star.

He was predeceased by his stepfather, Horace Ames; a son, Alton, "Butch" Brooks Jr.; and a brother, Clayton Brooks.

Family members include his wife of 38 years, Donna E. (Bashaw) Brooks, of Jefferson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey A. and Gretchen Heald Brooks, of Milford, Gary A. and Debbie Brooks, of Seabrook, N.H,; two daughters, Barbara J. Korenthal, of Toms River, N.J., and Bobbie Ann Silvia, of New Jersey; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm St., Milford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Patrick Church, 34 Amherst St., Milford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick 04011.

Wayne D. Stearns

NAPLES — Wayne D. Stearns, 62, of Harrison Road, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.

He was born in Stoneham, a son of C. Adrian and Elizabeth R. Dudley Stearns and attended local schools. Mr. Stearns was a graduate of Norway High School and Gorham State College. He received his master's degree in media technology from Boston University.

He served in the National Guard and the Army reserves.

Mr. Stearns taught industrial arts at Bridgton High School and was on the building committee for Lake Region High School, where he served for 26 years as director of the audio-visual department. He was instrumental in introducing computer technology into the Lakes Region school district. As media director, he provided staff development and photography classes. At Lake Region High School, he developed one of the first student-run cable news stations in the state.

As a master electrician, he owned and operated his own electrical contracting business. For many years, he coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams. Mr. Stearns was a founding member of the Naples Rescue Unit, where he served for 25 years. Always a teacher at heart, his greatest joy was providing instruction to rescue personnel. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, music and woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, Linda, of Naples; two sons, Steven, of Old Orchard Beach, Jeffrey, of Stoneham; his stepson, Jason Moen, of Casco; his stepdaughter, Jaime Moen, of Westbrook; his brother, Donald, of Ellington, Conn.; his cousin, Marilyn Pfeltz, of Naples; his nephew, Eric Stearns, of Portland; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Naples United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Casco.

Robert Edward Lewia

FAYETTE — Robert "Bob" Edward Lewia, 69, of Fayette, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 16, 2001.

He was born in East Winthrop, July 4, 1932, the son of Raymond and Gertrude (Gilcrest) Lewia. He was educated in Winthrop schools.

Bob was a plumber by trade and had been employed by several companies in the area.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

Bob was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Estelle Swift.

He is survived by his three sons, Keith Lewia, and his wife, Lyneta, of Wilton, Timothy Lewia, of Fayette, and Craig Lewia, of Biddeford; two daughters, Tammi Leavitt, and her husband, Tim, of Winthrop, and Robbin Mullen, and her husband Jeff, of Wayne; two sisters, Ruth Perry, and her husband, Buster, of Winthrop, and Dorothy Belanger, and her husband, Lucien, of Winthrop; five grandchildren and several cousins and nieces.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Lakeview Cemetery, Route 2, Wilton.

Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Pet Haven Lane, Augusta 04330.

Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.

Dube service

AUGUSTA — A concelebrated Mass of Christian burial for Leo B. Dube, who died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, was offered Wednesday morning at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard St. Cyr, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Gilbert Patenaude, retired. Organist was David Stewart and soloist was Jeannette Beaulieu. Altar servers were Jeannette Beaudoin and Patrick Jean.

The first reading was given by a grandson, Aaron Forbes, and the second reading was given by a grandson, Joshua Forbes. The Prayer of the Faithful was given by a granddaughter, Christina Cloutier. The offertory gifts were presented by Mr. Dube's daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Keith Forbes and Carol and Greg Cloutier. Words of remembrance were shared by Keith Forbes.

There were representatives from the church, Disabled American Veterans,Abnaki Council 334, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Le Club Calumet,Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Dow Roofing, Marine Corps League, CushnocSenior Citizens, American Legion and Roadway Express.

Honorary pallbearers representing the Cushnoc Senior Citizens were Simon Thibodeau, Mike Marceau, Emile Lachance and Leo Soucy. Active pallbearers, all grandchildren, were Aaron Forbes, Joshua Forbes, Dom Cloutier, Christina Cloutier, Isaac Forbes, Ben Dube, Brandon Dube, Derek Dube, Justin Cloutier and Alison Dube.

Committal prayers were offered at the cemetery by the Rev. St. Cyr. Military honors were provided by the U.S. Army Mountain Rangers out of Fort Drum, N.Y. Taking part in the Honor Detail were Warrant Officer 1 Mitchell Watson, Pvt. 2 Jose Perez, Pvt. Sara Rubin, Pfc. Ariel Rodriguez, Pfc. Aaron Haggard, Pfc. Ivan Carrasquillo, Spc. Shilo Barker, Pfc. Eduardo Sanchez, Sgt. 1st class Christopher Clemens and Pfc. Alicia Kantor. Taps was played by a grandson, Joshua Forbes. The American flag was presented to Mr. Dube's wife, Adela, by Warrant Officer 1 Mitchell Watson.

Burial followed in Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Andre M. Boutin

CHINA — Andre M. Boutin, 60, of China, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 5, 2002, at a Waterville hospital with his wife and son by his side.

He was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Lac Megantic, Quebec, son of Raoul and Jeannette (Poisson) Boutin. He served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged as a private. He married Thelma L. Merrow, Dec. 26, 1964.

Andre was employed as a quality control manager by the Scott Paper Co. in Winslow for 33 years before retiring.

He was a member of the China Lake Association and had served as treasurer for 14 years. In the early 1990s, he opened an antique clock-repair business known as A.B. Clock. He was known as the "clock doctor" to many people. He was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (No. 115540) and the American Watch Institution (No. 23205) Chapter 89, where he also served as treasurer for three years.

In his leisure time his passions were fishing and duck carving, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father and a brother, Pierre Boutin.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Thelma L. (Merrow) Boutin of China; his children, Marc Boutin of Melrose, Mass., Michelle Boutin of Alexandria, Va., and Melina Soper and her husband, Robert, of Kensington, N.H.; his mother, Jeannette Boutin of Sarasota, Fla.; three brothers, Francois Boutin of Waltham, Mass., Roger Boutin of Auburn and Steve Boutin of Sarasota; two sisters, Paige Lester and her husband, John, of Sarasota, and Suzanne Thorburn and her husband, Ray, of Sarasota; three grandchildren, Brandon, Patrick and Abigail; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the China Baptist Church in China with the Rev. Ronald Morrell officiating. Contributions in his memory may be made to the oncology department, MaineGeneral Medical Center-Thayer Unit, 149 North St., Waterville 04901.

Arrangements are by Lawry Brothers Funeral Home in Fairfield.

MaryAnn Milcetic

HALLOWELL — MaryAnn Milcetic, 39, of Hallowell, formerly of Franklin Lakes, N.J., died Jan. 30, 2002 in Hallowell.

She was the beloved daughter of Ann Milcetic of Franklin Lakes and John Milcetic, who predeceased her, and dear sister of Paul Milcetic of Maryland, John Milcetic of New York and Joseph Milcetic of Franklin Lakes.

There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Green Street United Methodist Church, 13 Green St., Augusta.

Donations may be made in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 560 Sylvan Ave., Englewood Cliffs, N.J. 07632.
