Edwin O. Monroe

WHITEFIELD — Edwin O. Monroe, 79, of Route 17, a longtime heavy equipment operator, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, following a brief illness.

He was born in Norwich, Conn., Dec. 3, 1921, the son of Edwin and Ruth (Reed) Monroe.

He attended Connecticut schools and moved to this area at the age of 18.

Edwin married Blossom Mabel Lowden in 1945.

He worked for Raymond Harris Construction, Augusta Iron Works, Bridge Construction for 25 years, A.E. Andrews for 13 years, the Leonard Kelley Farm, and Ben Pushard. Edwin also worked for Roland Bragg at Nobleboro Building Movers, and for the past several years worked with his son at Frank Monroe Construction.

He loved to plow snow, and was working at the time he was taken ill, shortly before he died. He was a skilled heavy equipment operator and welder all his life, operating all types of bulldozers.

His wife died March 5, 1996. He also was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Harris, and a grandson, Pvt. John Raven, who was in the Air Force.

Surviving are his son, Frank M. Monroe, and wife, Melissa, of Whitefield; his two stepsons, Ernest Raven, and his wife, Lillian, of Tennessee, and Dennis Raven, and his wife, Lucille, of Delta Junction, Alaska; six grandchildren, Allen, Paul, Ernie, Tammy, Tracy and Tina Raven; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Gray & Pratt Funeral Home, 5391 Windsor Neck Road, Windsor, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, with Rev. Branan Becknell, pastor of Windsor Memorial Baptist Church, officiating. Committal and burial will follow, in Resthaven Cemetery, Route 32, Windsor.

If desired, the family suggests memorial gifts to Windsor Memorial Baptist Church, Attn: Church Addition Fund, RR1, Box 1800, Windsor 04363. Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Agnes Eva Lizotte

AUGUSTA — Agnes Eva Lizotte, 92, of Grey Birch Drive, formerly of Kennebec Plaza, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Grey Birch Drive, following a long illness.

She was born at St. David, July 3, 1908, the daughter of Jules Lizotte and Elizabeth (Sirois) Lizotte.

Eva was a member of Sisters of the Presentation of Mary for 29 years, in Sherbrook, Quebec, and in New Hampshire. She also worked in Cambridge, Mass. for many years.

While a resident of Augusta, Eva was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, and 11 brothers and sisters, Louise Cyr, Gladys Veilleux, Katherine Bell, Gilberte Peters, Jane Madore, Marie Lizotte, Louis Lizotte, Eddie Lizotte, Levite Lizotte, Dennis Lizotte, and Joseph Lizotte.

She is leaving, with love, many nieces and nephews, as well as many devoted friends at Grey Birch.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, St. Andrew's Street, Augusta. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Church, Capital Campaign Fund, RR 10, Box 1350, Augusta 04330.

Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

Robert N. DeLisle

VASSALBORO — Robert Norman DeLisle, 75, of Cross Hill Road, Vassalboro, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Waterville, following a courageous battle with End Stage Renal Disease.

Surviving are his wife and best friend of 48 years, Priscilla (Jones) DeLisle, of Vassalboro; his sons, Robert B., and his wife, Joanne, of Heath, Mass., Darryl G., and his wife, Nancy, of Hubbardston, Mass., Christopher J., and his wife, Brenda, of Randolph, Andrew C., and his fiancee, Katherine McIver, of Oakland; his daughters, Cynthia L. Kustra, and her husband, Walter, of Petersham, Mass., and Rebecca J. DeLisle, of Augusta; and eight grandchildren. Surviving sisters are Gladys Sweeney, of Oceanside, Calif., Lucille Curtwright, of Kanob, Utah, Doris Valois, of Leominster, Mass., Estelle Goselin, of Norwich, Conn., and Loretta Ettore, of Schenectady, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews.

He attended schools in Athol and Leominster, Mass. Robert served with the 23rd Navy Seabees during World War II. He worked many years as a restaurant manager in Massachusetts, and later in Connecticut as a mold polisher. Upon retirement, he moved to Maine with his wife.

He loved cooking, antiques, fishing and gardening. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, Mass., where a memorial service will be held later in the spring.

Friends and relatives may send a donation in Robert's memory to Dialysis Memorial Fund, MaineGeneral Medical Center, 149 North St., Waterville 04901.

Arrangements are by Direct Cremation of Maine.

Ernest P. Fisher

FARMINGDALE — Ernest P. Fisher, 81, of Littlefield Lane, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Twin Cedars Boarding Home following a long illness.

He was born in Augusta, Feb. 15, 1920, the son of William Fisher and Lillian (Bennett) Fisher.

Mr. Fisher served honorably in the Army during World War II.

His wife, Rhoda (Harvey) Fisher, died Sept. 28, 1976.

Surviving are three sons, David Fisher, of Augusta, William Fisher, of Hallowell and Michael Fisher, of Lake Worth, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Tucker, of Walterboro, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until an 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, April 2, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, with Rev. Stephen Tolander, chaplain of Veterans Affairs Center at Togus, officiating. Mr. Fisher will be laid to rest in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.

Russell H. Jack Sr.

MOUNT VERNON — Russell H. Jack Sr., 94, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge, Augusta.

Mr. Jack was born May 28, 1907, in Topsham, the son of Fred and Mary (Quint) Jack, and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1923.

After working two years in a mill at Lisbon Falls, he entered the University of Michigan and graduated in 1930 with a degree in music.

Mr. Jack taught music in several Maine schools, including Falmouth and Pittsfield High Schools. Following an 11-year tenure at Edward Little High School, in Auburn, he became director of music for Weymouth, Mass., public schools, a position he held for 17 years. While in Massachusetts, he received his master's degree in education from Boston University.

In 1960, Mr. Jack had the opportunity to return to his beloved state of Maine as a professor of music at the University of Maine at Farmington, from which he retired in 1975.

He was associated with Farmington's Maine Music Camp for more than 50 years and eventually became director. He was also director of the Shriner's Band, in Lewiston, for 11 years.

Russell was an avid hunter and fisherman, and delighted in his annual trips to the Merrimachi River, in Canada, during the salmon season. His love of the outdoors was exceeded only by his zeal as a horticulturist. Following his retirement, he added a greenhouse to his home in Mount Vernon and spent many happy years growing an assortment of plants, flowers and vegetables for family and friends. He was the quintessential "green thumb."

Mr. Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janet (Locke) Jack; two sons, Russell H. Jack Jr., of Kalabash, N.C., and Ronald B. Jack, of Bowdoinham; one daughter, Patricia J. Mosher, of Pembroke, Mass.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, with Pastor Carl Storms officiating. Burial will be Monday, in Milan, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kora Temple Shrine, 11 Sabattus St., Lewiston 04240.

Ruth E. Baird Smith

DRESDEN — Ruth E. Baird Smith, 77, of Dresden, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 25, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, because of complications from accidentally breaking her foot in several places.

She was born June 24, 1923, in Hope, the daughter of Frank H. Baird Sr. and Ellen M. Bridges Baird.

She worked at the Harding Plant, Eton Shoe, Etonic Shoe, Auerbach Shoe and did practical nursing and cooking.

Ruth's passion in life was her family, and she loved nothing better than putting smiles on the faces of family members. She always gave a kind word of praise and a helping hand where and whenever she could.

She enjoyed her flowers, going for long rides and reading.

Ruth was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her husband, Lowell I. Smith, of Dresden; daughter, Sandra E. James, of Wiscasset; two sons, Charles L. and Susan Curtis, of Bowdoinham, and David V. Curtis and Alice Fraser, of Gardiner; three brothers, Frank H. Jr. and Geneva Baird, of North Berwick, Edwin W. and Virginia Baird, of South Berwick, and Robert H. Sr. and Louise Baird, of Alna; two sisters, Inez V. and Dick Parsons, of Oxford, and Judy A. Greenleaf, of Alna. She also leaves eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; 22 nieces and nephews, and 45 grandnieces and grandnephews.

She will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner St., Auburn.

Rose A. (Blouin) Ennis

WINDSOR — Rose A. (Blouin) Ennis, 69, of Route 17, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.

Born in Somersworth, N.H., Aug. 5, 1931, she was the daughter of Louis and Rose L. (Gendron) Blouin.

Rose attended Commercial High School there, and was married to Clifton A. Ennis, in Newmarket, N.H., on Dec. 3, 1961.

She and her husband had lived in Texas and Missouri during his tour of duty in the Air Force. The couple moved to this area in 1971, living first in Whitefield, and later in Windsor.

Rose was employed at Bernard's Foodland, in Augusta, and also was a clerk at the Togus Veterans' Administration Hospital retail store. She was a communicant of the Catholic Church. Rose enjoyed spending time with all of her family. She was an avid and talented needlepoint craftswoman.

In addition to her husband of 40 years, Clifton A. Ennis of Windsor, she is survived by two daughters, Diane (Gazda) Johnson and husband, Stephen Sr., of Berwick, and Noleta Demmons and husband, Ralph, of Rockland; three grandsons, Stephen Johnson Jr. and fiancee, Michaela Smith, of Fredericksburg, Va., Scott Johnson and girlfriend, Shannon McLaughlin of Somersworth, N.H., and Shawn Johnson Sr. and wife, Melissa (Cwiertniewicz) Johnson, of Somersworth; her granddaughter, Morgan Demmons, of Rockland; and her great-grandson, Shawn Johnson Jr., of Somersworth.

Her daughter, Joanne Gazda Butler, died in 1983, and her brother, Robert L. Blouin, died in 1993.

No visiting hours are planned. Funeral and committal prayers will be offered at noon on Monday, July 30, 2001, at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Chapel, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, with Rev. Michael J. Seavey, of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Augusta, officiating. Burial will follow the service.

If desired, the family suggests memorial gifts to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta 04330. Arrangements are by Gray & Pratt Funeral Home, 5391 Windsor Neck Road, Windsor.

William G. Waldron

PORTLAND — In Portland, July 23, William G. Waldron, 65, of Falmouth. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at State Street Church, 159 State St., Portland. Visiting hours will be held Friday, 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Jones, Rich, & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.

If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to the William G. Waldron Memorial Fund for the Sea, Maine Community Foundation, 1 Monument Way, Portland 04101.

Daniel Wayne Van Sickle

WHITEFIELD — Daniel Wayne Van Sickle, 40, of Wood Lane, and formerly of Spring Street, Gardiner, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, after a long illness.

He was born in Gardiner, Dec., 14, 1951, the son of Gerald S. and Mary V. Marston Van Sickle.

He was self-employed and a member of the Eagles Club.

He is survived by his mother, Mary V. Marston Crane, of Winthrop; two sons, Derek Witt, of Clinton, Utah, and Joshua Van Sickle, of Augusta; one brother, David S. Van Sickle, of Texas; two sisters, Judy A. Crawford, of Glen Allen, Va., and Nancy L. Van Sickle, of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, one uncle, four nieces, two nephews and two cousins.

Burial services will be private at Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner. Arrangements are under the care of Amesbury-White Funeral Home, 39 Washington Ave., Gardiner.
