Joseph P.H. Roy

MADAWASKA — Joseph P.H. Roy, 88, of Riverview Street, and formerly of Augusta and Sidney, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at High View Manor in Madawaska after a brief illness.

He was born in Augusta, Feb. 5, 1913, the son of Joseph Henry Roy and Johanna (McNamara) Roy and attended Augusta schools.

Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed for 33 years by Statler Tissue Co. in Augusta.

Joseph was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a member of Abnaki Council 334, 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, for many years.

His wife, Marie Rose (Guerette) Roy, died in 1972. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Irene Ellis.

Surviving is a son, Philip N. Roy Sr. and his wife, Lucy-Ann, of Sinclair; a sister, Mary Robichaud, of Augusta; two grandsons, Philip N. Roy Jr. and his wife, April, of Fairfield, and Peter S. Roy and his wife, Sherry, of Virginia Beach; a great-grandson, Jacob Roy, of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where officers and members of Abnaki Council 334, 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, are asked to meet at 7:30 p.m. to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Kendall Street, Augusta. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery in Augusta.

Danny E. Towle

SKOWHEGAN — Danny E. Towle, 50, of Skowhegan, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at the Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

He was born March 23, 1951, in Skowhegan, son of Everette and Beatrice (Berube) Towle, and attended Cornville and Skowhegan schools.

He married Sandy Hilton, July 7, 1971, in Cornville.

He was employed by Hight Chevrolet as an autobody man for 16 years.

He loved going to Deer Camp, snowmobiling, his town meetings every Thursday and being with family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy, of Skowhegan; children, Daniel, Crystal, Tracey and Jason Towle, all of Skowhegan; grandchildren, Aaliyah, Bridget, and Adam; sisters, Joanne Kingston of Skowhegan, Joyce Savage of Mercer, Judy Libby of Skowhegan and Juliet Towle of Skowhegan; good friends, Sheldon Worster, Shayne Fitzmaurice and Ken Dickey, all of Skowhegan.

He was predeceased by his parents, Everette and Beatrice Towle.

A service for Dan will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at his home at 26 North School St. in Skowhegan; friends and family are invited to attend. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home in Skowhegan.

Lillian F. Beale

FARMINGTON — Lillian F. Beale, 91, of Farmington, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2001, at the Pinewood Terrace where she had been a resident for over two and a half years.

She was born May 14, 1910, in Bangor, a daughter of Percy Dudley and Luella Maude (Ayer-Nye) Small. She received her education first in Brewer schools and upon moving to Hyde Park, Mass., completed her high school education at Hyde Park.

On Nov. 10, 1928, she married Frank Emery Beale Sr. He died Feb. 28, 1981. Lillian lived on the farm and enjoyed raising her family there. In addition to her family responsibilities, she had been employed in the laundry department at Franklin Memorial Hospital and in the dietary department at the University of Maine at Farmington. She also owned and operated a bakery in her home in Industry, often starting her homemade breads at 3 o'clock in the morning, her family recalls.

Mrs. Beale's culinary talents extended to not only baking, but decorating cakes for special occasions such as weddings, showers, birthdays and anniversaries. Over the years, she was the recipient of many well deserved ribbons at Farmington Fair for her baking. As recently as Nov. 8 of this year, she was presented a certificate and carnation honoring her 61 years of dedicated service to the Cooperative Extension Service (formerly Farm Bureau). She was president of the Industry Day Group Extension Homemakers for 30 years and was a member of the Red Schoolhouse Extension Homemakers. Her involvement and contributions to her community, which she so deeply loved, were extensive. She was a life-member of the Farmington Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star as well as the Purity Court No. 5, Order of the Amaranth, in which she was a former officer. She was a life-member and former lecturer for Crystal Lake Grange and was a member of Excelsior Pomona No. 5, Maine State Grange and National Grange. She and her husband held the distinction to serve as commander and president of the World War I Edwards-Philbrick Barracks and Auxiliary in the same year while at the same time holding those positions simultaneously at the state level.

Never one to be idle, Mrs. Beale also achieved 17,000 hours of volunteer work for Togus Veterans Hospital, using her talented hands to create knitted lap robes for the patients.

She was a member of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church in Farmington and was a member of Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Lewiston and now Waterville. She was a member of both the Strong and Farmington Senior Citizens and had served on the Board of Directors. She also was a member of the Farmington Senior Citizens Kitchen Band. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing beano and working on her crafts which included knitting, crocheting, sewing, cross stitching and making homemade Indian dolls. She also enjoyed spending time watching football and baseball games on television.

Her survivors include one daughter, Barbara Titcomb and her husband, Richard Titcomb, of Farmington; two sons, Frank Beale Jr. and his companion, Jacqueline "Jackie" Payne of Farmington and George Beale and his wife, Beverly Beale, of Industry; one brother, John Small of Fort Pierce, Fla.; three grandchildren, Troy Beale, Rodney Titcomb and Louise T. Tyler; four great-grandchildren, Lisa Burrill, Angela Burrill, Eric Titcomb, Heather Titcomb, and one great-great granddaughter, Kayla Bard, several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, Galen Holmes and Roy Holmes, and two sisters, Mildred H. Atkins and Irene S. Dunn.

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. with a public O.E.S. service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Wiles Funeral Home, 137 Farmington Falls Road, (U.S. Rte. 2 & 27) Farmington.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, from the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, Academy Street, Farmington. Those who desire may give gifts in Mrs. Beale's memory to the Pinewood Terrace Resident Activity Fund, Attn: Bob Bourassa, 136 Rosewood Drive, Farmington ME 04938. Private family committal service at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.

Lucien G. Boutin

WATERVILLE — Lucien G. "Pete" Boutin, 88, of Waterville, passed away late Sunday evening, Nov. 25, 2001, at Oak Grove Rehabilitation & Living Center in Waterville.

He was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Lewiston, son of Gaudias and Mary Jane (Laflamme) Boutin.

He was the husband of Cecile (Murray) Boutin, who died March 2001.

He worked many years for Liberty Cleaners then retiring from Admor Cleaners in Waterville.

He enjoyed woodworking in his shop and also loved fishing.

He was predeceased by his wife, a sister, Geraldine Flibbert, brother-in-law, Franklin Pooler, brother-in-law, Carl Flibbert.

Survivors include three sisters, Florence Pooler of Waterville, Rose Roy of Mount Vernon, and Pearl Ahearn of Bridgewater, Mass.; two brothers, Donald and Robert Maheu, both of Winslow; two step-grandchildren, Kathy Burbank and Timothy Murray, both of Augusta.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Francis Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville. Arrangements are through the Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville.

Madge T. Frederic

STARKS — Madge T. Frederic, 90, of Starks, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at her home in Starks after a long illness.

She was born in Norridgewock, Feb. 28, 1911, the daughter of Ira B. and Jessie Julia (Holt) Taylor. Madge was a graduate of New Sharon High School, Salutatorian, class of 1930, and attended Farmington Normal School.

She married Glenn A. Frederic, Nov. 23, 1932; he died in January 1984. She grew up on the family farm in Mercer where she transported her younger brothers and sisters to school by horse and sleigh. Madge also assisted her father in running the Davis Ferry across the Sandy River and sometimes served as ferrywoman. She taught at the Beans Corner School in New Sharon and the Hilton and Village Schools in Starks.

Madge worked with her husband Glenn on their dairy farm in Starks and was employed for several years in area shoe and corn shops. She was a member of the Starks Church of Christ and its Progressive Club, holding a number of offices in both, and taught Sunday school. Madge served a term on the Town of Starks School Board. In 1988 she was recognized by the Maine Broadcasting System and American Institute for Public Service for extraordinary public service (Jefferson Awards Program).

She enjoyed knitting, gardening, reading, and get-togethers with relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Glenn, in 1984; son, Burton, 1981; foster-son, Ronald McDonald; and eight siblings.

Survivors include son, Dr. Paul B. Frederic and his wife, Liz, of Starks; daughter-in-law, Joan Frederic of Madison; her three sisters, Addie Miner of Plano, Texas, Eva Blazer of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mae Ellis of Sixes, Ore.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Adams Funeral Home, 108 Court St., Farmington. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Church of Christ, Locke Hill Road, Starks, with the Rev. Jeffery Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the Frederic Cemetery in Starks. A reception will follow at the Church of Christ Memorial Hall in Starks. Donations in Madge's name may be made to Church of Christ, c/o Rev. Jeffery Scott, RFD 1, Box 440, Starks ME 04911.

Marilyn J. Turner

MADISON — Marilyn J. Turner, 69, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, the Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

She was born March 19, 1932, in Princeton, the daughter of Neil E. and Cordelia (Norton) McCannell.

She married Stuart M. Turner, Oct. 13, 1951, in Princeton. Marilyn had been a resident of Madison for the past six years and previously lived in Jackman.

Marilyn had a love for life and was especially fond of playing bingo. She was a devoted wife and mother and thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren. She and Stuart recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Four brothers, Oscar, Willis, Donald, and Norton McCannell, and a sister, Joyce McCannell, all died previously.

She is survived by her husband, Stuart M. Turner of Madison; her children, Alan S. Turner and his wife, Carol, of Hampden, Anne M. Duplessis and her husband, Alan, of Jackman, Scott M. Turner and his wife, Jean, of Jackman, Eric M. Turner of Jackman, Kent N. Turner of Jackman, and Heidi L. Turner of Madison; her grandchildren, Brandy Duplessis of Madison, Stephanie Turner of Jackman, Kristen Turner of Hampden, Jessica Turner of Jackman, Joshua Turner of Jackman, Nolan Turner of Hampden, Brooke Turner, Erica Turner and Matthew Turner, all of Jackman, Gabrielle Lindsey of Madison; her brothers, James E. McCannell of Vienna, Va., and Neil McCannell of Lewiston, and sisters, Florence Inman of Waterville and Ruth Anne McCannell of Weston; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison, with the Rev. Jay Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Redington-Fairview General Hospital, c/o Sue Forbus, PO Box 468, Skowhegan ME 04976; or to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division Inc., 52 Federal St., Brunswick ME 04011.

Maxine H. White

MADISON — Maxine H. White, 74, of Madison, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville.

She was born May 10, 1927, in Bangor, the daughter of Oscar and Lillian (Ramsey) Colson, and graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1945.

She had been a resident of Madison since 1952 and was a communicant of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Madison.

Her husband, Richard White, and a son, R. Daniel Cook, died previously.

Survivors include a daughter, Francine Roy of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Tammy, Holly and Jason Roy, all of Fairfield; brother, Norman Colson and his wife, Antoinette of Arizona; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Therese LeBlanc of Madison, John and Ida Zion of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison with the Rev. Georges Plante officiating. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division Inc., 52 Federal St., Brunswick ME 04011.

Herbert E. Rogers

EMBDEN — Herbert E. Rogers, 88, who died Nov. 24, had lived in Embden since 1993, not 1933.

Carroll F. Brown

OLD TOWN — Carroll F. "Cappy" Brown, 63, of Old Town, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002.

He was born Jan. 4, 1939, to Ara and Jennie (Rugan) Brown. He graduated from Old Town High School, class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1962.

He was employed by Old Town Pulp Products, General Motors Corp. in Tarrytown, N.Y., and retired from Bangor and Aroostook Railroad.

Cappy was a life member of the BPOE Lodge No. 1287 and a member of the American Legion, Post No. 75, Old Town.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Allan Brown.

Survivors include two sisters, Wilma Stevens of Canaan and Bobbi McLaughlin of Milford; three brothers, Philip and his wife, Ginger Brown, of Stillwater, Steven Brown of Spring Hill, Fla., and Richard Brown and his companion, Karen Baker, of Milford; four nieces and four nephews, five great-nieces and eight great-nephews, but especially his niece, Danielle and her husband, Todd Harris, and their three beautiful children, Ariana, Jordan and Noah, whom he adored and visited on a daily basis; many cousins, including his dear friend, Frannie Costigan.

He is also survived by an endless list of special people whom he loved and was loved by them in return. Cappy touched many lives with a simple smile, by a card to someone who might otherwise not receive one, a funny joke, a "great" T-shirt, or by helping out just by being the generous soul he was.

He will be sadly missed by his wide circle of friends at the North End along with friends at the River's Edge Restaurant in Madison and by the "girls" at the Governor's Restaurant in Old Town. Cappy will also be missed by all those who were blessed by his presence at Canaan Superette in Canaan and Tim's Store in Old Town.

Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 287 South Main St., Old Town, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. Friends and family members will be given the opportunity to share a thought or special memory of Cappy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Ronald McDonald House, 654 State St., Bangor ME 04401; or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
