Earl B. Stevenson

2002

KNOX — Earl B. Stevenson, 77, of Knox Ridge, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2002.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Ronald Stevenson's home. Refreshments will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Grace Stevenson, 333 Belfast Road, Knox ME 04986-4014, for a scholarship in Earl's name for further education. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home of Belfast.

Edmond E. Turcotte

1918-2002

SKOWHEGAN — Edmond E. "Babe" Turcotte, 83, went to be with his maker Saturday, July 27, 2002, at his home with family by his side after a long, hard illness.

He was born Nov. 6, 1918, the son of Frank and Marie (Prevost) Turcotte.

He was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 128th General Hospital in England. He retired from SAD 54 in 1980 as a boilerman.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of 57 years; two sons, Edmond Jr. and wife Debbie of Skowhegan, and Leonard and wife Susan of Portland; two grandsons, Eric of Skowhegan and Jay and wife Ellen of Bitburg, Germany; a special person, Kris Croteau; one sister, Cathrine Holmes of Skowhegan; brother, Leonel Turcotte of Norridgewock; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours at the request of the deceased.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon, Wednesday, July 31, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Water Street, Skowhegan, with the Rev. Maurice Morin officiating. A private committal service will held at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery. Cremation was under the direction of Direct Cremation of Maine of Belfast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HealthReach HomeCare Center, 251 North Avenue, Skowhegan ME 04976.

Elizabeth M. Wright

1940-2002

MIAMI, Fla. — Elizabeth M. Wright, 62, of Miami, died peacefully Friday, July 12, 2002, at Baptist Hospital of Miami after a courageous three year battle with lung cancer.

She was born July 2, 1940, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Marion (Grover) McHugh of Needham, Mass. She graduated from Needham High School and attended Bridgewater State University. After graduation, she moved to Florida where she resided until her death.

She had been employed by the airline and retail industries and most recently had worked for the Century 21 Real Estate Agency in Homestead, Fla.

She loved nature, her animals, bird houses and the state of Maine. She was devoted to her family, her faith, her church family and many friends.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Wright and his wife Diane of Miami; her sister, Ann Marie Doherty and her husband John C. of Waterville, Maine; her six nieces and nephews, Dr. Jacqueline M. Doherty of Boston, Charles R. Doherty of South Burlington, Vt., Maureen E. McCann and her husband John of Oakland, Maine, Kevin R. Doherty of San Francisco, Calif., Sean M. Doherty, also of Waterville, Maine, and Kathleen A. Hubert and her husband Larry of Scarborough, Maine; one great-nephew, Shea F. McCann of Oakland, Maine, and one great-niece, Taylor A. Hubert of Scarborough, Maine.

A funeral was held Monday, July 15, at the Baptist Church of the Redlands, Homestead, Mass., with the Rev. Bill Baggett presiding. Memorial tributes were given by Sally A. Swank, Jacqueline Doherty and Kevin Doherty. In her honor, bagpipes played the song Amazing Grace. Visiting hours were held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Bibber Funeral Home on Saturday, July 20. A burial prayer service and interment were held at the Ocean View Cemetery, Wells, Maine. Fred W. 'Ted' Closson

1927-2002

NORRIDGEWOCK — Fred Wheaton "Ted" Closson, 75, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Woodlawn Nursing Home of Skowhegan, after courageously battling cancer. He was born June 5, 1927, in Benton, son of Fred W. and Lily (Petchey) Closson. He attended Corinna Union Academy, served his country in World War II at Guam with the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was employed many years at Eastland Woolen Mill of Corinna and VanBrode Milling of Clinton, Mass.

Ted loved being surrounded by his family and friends visiting and playing games. He loved music, playing golf, sports and in his earlier years enjoyed flying his plane. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church, where he sang in the choir.

He was predeceased by his parents. Ted will be sadly missed by his wife, Cora of 33 years; his son and wife, Thomas and Brenda Closson; son and wife, Stephen and Susan Closson; his daughter and husband, Susan and Bill Strickland; stepson and wife, Rick and Marion VanArsdale; stepson and wife, Mark and Linda VanArsdale. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 7 McClellan St., Skowhegan. Interment will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity E.F. Church, 7 McClellan St., Skowhegan ME 04976.

Stephen M. Perkins

1956-2002

CLINTON — Stephen M. "Steve" Perkins, 46, of the Hinckley Road in Clinton, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, after a short illness.

Steve was an electronics engineer for Valmet, SCI, and Hathaway Shirt Co., all of Maine.

Born Sept. 29, 1956, in Sunbury, Pa., son of Charles S. and Pauline (Marshall) Perkins, he graduated in 1974 from Adirondack Central School of Boonville, N.Y., and attended Jamestown Community College, Jamestown, N.Y., and the University of Maine at Orono, and Kennebec Valley Technical College of Fairfield.

Steve was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post in Fairfield. He also enjoyed music, boating and other outdoor activities.

Surviving are his parents, Pauline A. Marshall Perkins of Lyons Falls, N.Y., and Charles S. Perkins of Lowville, N.Y.; his maternal grandmother, Catherine Smith Marshall of Waterville; one brother, Charles S. Perkins II, Alexandria, Va.; two sisters, Shirley Perkins Czajka of Old Forge, N.Y., and Mrs. Andrew (Katharine) Manning of Lowville, N.Y.; one niece and three nephews. Steve is also survived by his former wife and longtime friend, Ms. Christine Re of Freedom, and stepdaughter, Ms. Jessica Cail of Marina Del Re, Calif.

The body was cremated in Maine by Direct Cremation of Maine. There will be no services or calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the Fryeburg Academy Library Fund, 152 Main St., Fryeburg ME 04037, in Steve's memory.

Joseph W. Wilde Jr.

1948-2002

FARMINGTON FALLS —Joseph William Wilde Jr., 54, of Croswell Road in Farmington Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. He was born May 11, 1948, in Waterville, son of the late Joseph William and Lena Avis (Roex) Wilde Sr.

On June 30, 1965, he married the former Jena Marie Linscott in South Portland and together have been lifelong residents of the Farmington area.

He was a combat engineer in the U.S. Army serving three tours of duty in Vietnam. He attended the University of Maine at Farmington and worked in the woods. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, going to lawn sales and entertaining friends. He loved animals and cooking for his family.

In addition to his wife of 37 years, survivors include three sons, John J. and wife, Judy, of Farmington, Richard W. and wife, Crystal, of Farmington, and Joseph W. Wilde III of Farmington; two daughters, Lori-Ann Mosher and husband, William, of Fryeburg, and Angel A. Wilde and friend, Reginald Armor of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren, Jessica Cole, James Cole III, William O. Wilde, and Lawrence A. Wilde; a great-granddaughter, Alexandra Cole; sister, Joyce Stillman and husband, Walter, of Norridgewock; nephew, Benjamin Cormier of Augusta.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a nephew, Michael Cormier, who died in 1982.

Relatives and friends may call on the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Western Mountains Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, with a funeral following at 4 p.m. Interment will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Should friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Wilde's memory to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 550 Industry Road, Farmington ME 04938.

Beverly G. Brooks

1921-2003

WATERVILLE — Beverly G. Brooks, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at her home in Waterville. She was born March 9, 1921, in Winslow, the daughter of Octave and Mamie (Roux) Rousseau.

She was employed for 30 years at the Harris Baking Co. of Waterville and then for seven years at a nursing home in Florida.

She accomplished a lot in spite of learning disabilities and was known affectionately to everyone as "Aunt B."

Survivors include two nephews and two nieces, whom she helped raise, Patrick and Lawrence Burns, both of Waterville, Catherine Burns of Canaan and Patricia Towers of Sidney; several other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dog, Molly, whom she loved.

A spring graveside service will be held at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville. Arrangements are under the direction of the Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Literacy Volunteers, Waterville Affiliate, 71 Boston Ave., Winslow ME 04901.

Margaret A. (Paradis) Cook

1937-2003

SKOWHEGAN — Margaret A. (Paradis) Cook, 65, of Skowhegan died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Woodlawn Nursing Home of Skowhegan. She was born Aug. 25, 1937, in Lewiston, daughter of Emilien L. Paradis and Mary Elisabeth McShane.

She married Frederick Burnham and spent most of her life as a homemaker. She loved to cook, spending time with her family and caring for her cats that meant so much to her.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Burnham of Skowhegan and Michael Burnham of North Carolina; one sister, Irene Paradis of Skowhegan.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. Burial to take place at the convenience of the family.

Madeline R. Higgins

1913-2003

HARTLAND — Madeline R. Higgins, 89, slipped away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield surrounded by her loving children.

Madeline was born Nov. 19, 1913, in Stevensville, the daughter of Sylvanus and Agnes (Argraves) Grass Roach and attended Fort Fairfield schools.

She married Harold Higgins, June 7, 1952, and moved to Hartland in 1954. She was a homemaker most of her life.

She was a member of the Hartland Full Gospel Church, a former member and past president of the Hartland and St. Albans Senior Citizens, and for the past five years had been a resident of Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She enjoyed cooking, especially making her famous "doughnut" and also loved playing bingo. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Higgins; brother, Donald Grass; sister, Phyllis Wharton; an infant son, Sylvanus Brown; son, Robert Brown and his wife Margaret; two grandsons, Robert A. Brown II and Raymond Brown; a great-grandson, Jacob K.E. Hughes.

Survivors include three sons, Dale E. Brown and wife Dianne, Donald Brown and wife Romona of Hartland, Ralph Brown and wife Bonnie of Palmyra; three daughters, Betty Foolbear of Fayetteville, N.C., Paula and husband Earl Hughes, Ella and husband Hadley Buker of Hartland; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. Spring interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Hartland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hartland Helping Hands, c/o Debbie Cooper, 14 Rice Land, Hartland ME 04943.

Norton I. Scott

1919-2003

CHESTERVILLE — Norton I. Scott, 83, of Stinchfield Road in Chesterville died Sunday morning, Jan. 26, 2003, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville. He was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Torrington, Conn., a son of the late Harley J. and Addie B. (Landon) Scott.

During World War II, he served in U.S. Army and on July 9, 1959, he married the former Mabel E. Wheeler in Southington, Conn. Norton was self-employed for many years, taking over his father's plumbing, heating and electrical business in Connecticut.

He was a longtime member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Farmington where he served as organist and played in the church orchestra. He was an accomplished musician playing the organ, piano and violin. He was an avid reader, a published writer and poet, and an artist. He was an active volunteer for local nursing homes, entertaining the residents with his music.

In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by two sons, Nelson S. and his wife Bettina of Farmington, David N. and his wife Susan of East Wilton;a brother, Nelson H. of Farmington; six grandchildren, Samantha, Caitlin, Danielle, Benjamin, Rebekah, Matthew.

Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 268 Perham St., Farmington. A funeral will be conducted following visitation at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Brian H. Rebert of New Hope Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Arrangements are under the care of Western Mountains Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington. Should friends so desire memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Scott's memory to the New Hope Baptist Church, PO Box 786, Farmington ME 049385.
