Henry L. Hustus

1917-2003

CANAAN — Henry LeRoy Hustus, 86, of Canaan went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Skowhegan after a long illness.

He was born in Pittsfield on June 19, 1917, the son of Hiram and Mertie (Call) Hustus.

He served in the Army for four years during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved animals.

He is survived by his wife, Clara (Lawrence) Hustus, who he married 38 years ago; his sons, Jim of Westbrook, Larry of Canaan and a stepson, Tony Violette of Little Rock, Ark.; his daughters, Judy Burke of Lee, N.H., Janice Brawn of Garland and two step-daughters, Louise Dudley and Laurel Gustafson, both of Clinton. He leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by a sister, Irene; and a son, Jerome.

He attended Clinton Baptist Church where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4. Burial will follow at the Village Cemetery in Pittsfield.

Doris Kathryn Reynolds Hussey

1922-2003

WINSLOW — Doris Kathryn Reynolds Hussey, 81, of Winslow passed from this world into the waiting arms of her precious Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2003.

She was born on the family farm in Winslow on May 31, 1922, a daughter of George W. and Lucy (Shirley) Reynolds. She was educated in Winslow schools, graduating from Winslow High School in 1939.

On May 19, 1943, she married Forrest W. Hussey. After World War II, they made their home in the house they built on Patterson Avenue in Winslow.

She was a homemaker, devoting all her time to her family.

She is survived by her seven children, Michael and his wife, Peggy, of Keene, N.H., Tracy Chesser and her husband, Herb, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Suzon Morrison and her husband, Gary, of Winslow, Kelly Pearson and her husband, Jim, of Richmond, Erin Dyer and her husband, Scott, of Winslow, Patrick Hussey of Derry, N.H., and Peter Hussey and his wife, Verna, of Winslow; her brother, George Reynolds of Winslow; sister-in-law, Thelma Pearl of Waterville; sister-in-law, Dorita Hussey of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; brother-in-law, William Armstrong of Winslow; 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Pam Morrison; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Forrest, on Aug. 16, 1994; her sister, Shirley Reynolds Bourgoin, in June 1993; and her sister, Lillian Reynolds Armstrong in October 1994.

At her request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service was held on Monday, July 28, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Albion, officiated by her son-in-law, Pastor James Pearson.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Winslow Fire and Rescue Equipment Fund, c/o Chief Bill Page, 16 1/2

Benton Ave., Winslow, ME 04901.

And the Lord said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. SHALOM"

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.

Yvette L. Poulin

1918-2003

BUXTON — Yvette L. Poulin, 84, died July 20, 2003, at Seaside Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Portland.

She was born in Waterville, Aug. 2, 1918, the daughter of Francis Xavier Loisel and Amanda Audet Loisel.

She was a graduate of Waterville High School. She was employed at C. Perkins Co. for 25 years, retiring as a store manager in March of 1980 after 25 years of employment.

She loved reading, music, dancing, shopping with her daughters, having lunch with them and walking by the ocean. She was the last of 16 children.

She is survived by children Ronald Lachance and wife, Jean, of Old Orchard, Linda Ahlquist and husband, Robert, of Scarborough, Rae Ann Doughty and husband, Philip, of Gorham, Cynthia Hirning and husband, Fred E. Jr., of West Buxton, Julia Goyette and husband, Chris, of Standish; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Wilson Lachance, on Jan. 15, 1948, and by her second husband, Raymond Arthur Poulin, Oct. 25, 1973.

Visiting hours were held Wednesday, July 23, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday at St. Francis de Sales Church, 52 Elm St., Waterville, with the Rev. Ralph Boisvert officiating. Committal prayers and burial followed in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.

Allen Powell Heald Sr.

1929-2003

SOUTH PORTLAND —Allen P. Heald Sr., 73, of 134 High St., South Portland, died following a long illness on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at his home with family members at his side.

He was born Sunday, Nov. 17, 1929, in Solon, the son of Eldred Chalmers and Arla (Powell) Heald. He received most of his formal education through the Solon school system, attending sub-primary, through grade 12 in one building. He graduated from Solon High School on Thursday, June 12, 1947, the only boy in a class of 10. One month short of 42 years later, May 12, 1989, he finalized his formal education by graduating with honors from Westbrook College in Portland, receiving an associate's degree in business administration as an accounting major.

Mr. Heald was an active member of the National Right to Work Committee for 30 years and an adult member of the Boy Scouts of America in the 1960s.

His lifetime career in manufacturing was culminated with 10 years of instrument calibration at Data General of Westbrook, where he retired in January 1990.

His wife of 53 years, Barbara Marie (Burrows) Heald; two brothers, Eldred A. Heald and Roger A. Heald, died previously.

He is survived by a daughter, Jo-Ann Heald of South Portland; two sons, Allen P. Heald Jr. and his wife, Pamela, of Columbia, Mo., and Mark R. Heald and his wife, Suzanne, of Cornish; grandchildren, Shawn, James and Jeremy Benner of South Portland, Philip, Andrew and Alica Heald of Cloumbia, Mo., and William Heald of Biddeford; a great-granddaughter, Emma Benner of Portland; a sister, Mary H. Bishop of Skowhegan; many nieces and nephews.

At Allen's request there will be no services. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St. Madison. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Pulmonary Lifeline, c/o University of Maine, 96 Falmouth St., Portland, ME 04104-9300 or to VNA/Hospice, 50 Foden Road, South Portland, ME 04106.

Dianne Margaret Rowe

2003

PORTLAND — Dianne Margaret Rowe, 61, of Codman Street died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at her residence unexpectedly.

She was born in Augusta, the daughter of Albert and Esther Washuk Learned, where she attended schools graduating from Cony High School class of 1960. She also attended nursing school in Waterville.

Dianne was employed as an LPN at MaineMedical Center, Seaside Nursing Home, the former Osteopathic Hospital of Maine, and at Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse Infirmary.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

She enjoyed boating, gardening, and following the golf careers of her cousins, Martha White and Penny Cummings. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She leaves a son, David Rowe Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Westbrook; two daughters, Tracy and her husband, Jeffrey Morris, of Portland and Debra and her husband, Randy White, of Cape Elizabeth; one sister, Mary Lou and her husband, Robert Egts, of St. Simons Island, Ga.; one brother, Steve and his wife, Barbra Learned, of Augusta; five grandchildren, Janessa White, Matthew and Meaghan Morris, Devin and Joshua Rowe.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., where prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will be private. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Barbra Bush Hospital for Children, c/o MMC 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, ME.

Lawrence Norwood Savage

1916-2003

SKOWHEGAN — Lawrence Norwood Savage, 87, of Skowhegan died Sunday, July 27, at his home in Skowhegan.

He was born in Cornville on May 6, 1916, the son of Arthur L. and Lizzie (Bigelow) Savage.

He was a life-long resident of Skowhegan, graduating from Bloomfield Academy and Skowhegan High School where he excelled on the football field and is a member of the Skowhegan Football Hall of Fame.

He was a welding instructor and welder at Bath Iron Works, Camden New Jersey Shipyard and South Portland Shipyard during World War II, building submarines for the U.S. Navy.

Along with his wife, Althea, he owned and operated Savage Oil Co. retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Skowhegan Exchange Club, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a lieutenant in the Skowhegan Fire Department.

He loved fishing at Canada Falls and driving his Unit No. 1 oil truck. He was known to many as "Larry" and "Gramp" he will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Althea Lancaster of Skowhegan; sons, Lawrence Savage II of Bingham and David Savage and wife, Cheri, of Skowhegan; grandchildren, Carlton and Michael of Skowhegan, Kristina of Portland, Jennifer of Boston, Christian and Laura of Portland and John of Skowhegan; great-grandchildren, Sean and Ryan of Skowhegan.

He was predeceased by an unnamed twin daughter, Constance Loraine Savage; brothers, Lionel and Carroll Savage; sisters, Evelyn Holt and Eleanor McGowan.

Friends and family are invited to call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery, Skowhegan.

Pauline (Brown) Wing

1918-2003

WATERVILLE — Pauline (Brown) Wing, 85, of Waterville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Thayer Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Waterville shortly after arrival.

She was born May 28, 1918, in Augusta, a daughter of John and Arda Brown.

Pauline attended Cony High School and was a proud graduate of Gates Business College.

She married Douglas A. Wing on March 14, 1941, and remained his wife for 62 years.

Pauline was an avid rose gardener. She enjoyed playing Beano and in her spare time she loved to knit sweaters, mittens and scarves for her family and friends. Pauline loved completing crossword puzzles and watching "Wheel of Fortune," but nothing compared to experiencing a Red Sox or New England Patriots victory.

She never missed an appointment to get her hair done by her close friend and confidant, Donna Robbins. Every summer she made a point to travel to her favorite part of the coast, Pemaquid. Some of her most enjoyable times were spent with her children and grandchildren on her yearly vacations to Florida. They all have fond memories of her visits.

Pauline is survived by her husband, Douglas A. Wing of Waterville; her children, Susan Wing Loney, Daniel Douglas Wing and David Allen Wing, all of Miami, Fla.; her grandchildren, Sean Peter Loney, Brittany Susan Loney, Sarah Elizabeth Wing and Chelsey Jane Wing, all of Miami, Fla.; and by her best friend, Donna Robbins.

Pauline was predeceased by her sister, Charlene Elliott of Augusta.

A private memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 27, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Augusta. She was laid to rest beside her mother and father. She will be dearly missed. Arrangements were with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.

Carl Horne

1917-2003

WATERVILLE — Carl Horne, 86, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, with his family at his side.

Carl was born on the family farm on March 3, 1917. He was the 6th generation to operate the farm that was settled by his ancestors in 1768.

He married Dorothy Daley in 1941. Together they had an award winning Holstein dairy herd of which he was very proud. He sold milk for 40 years, mostly to Smiley's Dairy in Winslow. He also drove a Winslow school bus for 25 years.

He graduated from Winslow High School in 1935, where he lettered in football, basketball and track and won a state gold medal in the high hurdles.

Carl was the son of Robert Stratton Horne and Charity Hodges Horne. He was predeceased by three sisters, Marion Hale, Barbara Lindvall and Aileen Barter and a brother, William Horne.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Daley Horne; his children, Carla Burnham and husband Charles of Bath, Diana Robie and husband Frederich of Winslow and Robert Horne and wife Nancy of Gorham; his grandsons, Matthew, Timothy and Andrew Burnham, Fred, Robie and Ben Horne; and a granddaughter, Melissa Robie; as well as eight great-grandchildren; two cousins, and several nieces and nephews.

Carl will be sadly missed by all.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2.
