James P. Picard

2002

ROCKINGHAM, N.H. —James P. Picard, 72, died Nov. 22, 2002, in Rockingham after a long illness.

He was the son of Lionel and Yvonne (Roy) Picard.

He was a graduate of Skowhegan High School, where he was active in sports.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Picard is survived by two daughters, Linda Dunbar of Canaan, Maine, and Susan Poulin of Auburn, Maine; one son, James Jr. of Skowhegan; one sister, Mary Panaggio and her husband, Raymond, of Skowhegan; one brother, Michael Picard and his wife, Rosie, of Mercer, Maine; one granddaughter, Megan Dunbar; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Robert; and a sister, Rosemarie.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.

Elaine Hall Averill

1918-2003

LEWISTON — Elaine Hall Averill, 84, of Wilton, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

She was born in Temple, Aug. 1, 1918, a daughter of Harry Isaac and Florence Barker Blodgett. She received her education in local schools and graduated from Farmington High School, class of 1937.

On Nov. 5, 1938, she married Charles W. Hall of East Dixfield. Together they spent many years traveling to agricultural fairs throughout Maine showing steers and oxen. Mr. Hall died Oct. 7, 1988.

She was a member of the Cooperative Extension for more than 50 years for which she was honored at the annual meeting in Orono several years ago. She was a 4-H leader as well as a longtime member of the Grange.

On Sept. 11, 1993, she married Albert Averill. After living in Bucksport, they returned to Wilton. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

Mrs. Averill worked at Purinton's Store in North Jay for eight years and then worked in the office at Forster Manufacturing, Inc. in Wilton before working in the business office at the University of Maine at Farmington. Following her retirement, she enjoyed seasonal work at Mount Blue Agway in Farmington.

She is survived by her husband, Albert of Wilton; a son, C. Richard "Dick" Hall and his wife, Gloria, of East Dixfield; a daughter, Betty Hartley and her husband, Walter, of Topsham; a sister, Mildred Vernesoni of West Paris; two grandsons, Randall and Rodney Hall, both of East Dixfield; two granddaughters, Jennifer Dimond of Portland and Beth Dimond of Winthrop; three great- grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Blodgett of Temple.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wiles Funeral Home, 136 High St., Wilton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Main Street, Wilton.

Those who desire may make memorial contributions in Mrs. Averill's memory to the Wilton Scholarship Association, PO Box 337, Wilton 04294 or to the First Congregational Church, UCC, PO Box 556, Wilton 04294, attn: Church Organ Fund.

Interment will be in the spring at the East Dixfield Cemetery.

John Scott Myron

1970-2003

WINSLOW — John Scott Myron, 32, of Benton Avenue, Winslow, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Readfield.

He was born in Waterville, Nov. 27, 1970, the son of Norman W. and Karen (Little) Myron. John had attended Messalonskee High School in Oakland. He was a member of the Apostolic Bible Church in Newport.

He is survived by a son, Cody Myron and a daughter, Misty Myron, both of Unity; his father, Norman W. Myron and his wife, Elizabeth, of Burnham; his mother, Karen Christy Caron and her husband, Thomas, of Oakland; his ex-wife, Michelle Meserve of Unity; a brother, Tavis Caron of Winslow; a stepbrother, Shane Wood and his wife, Rebecca, of Vassalboro; sisters, Michelle Feist and her husband, Manfred, of Burlington, Mass., Patricia Poulin and her husband, Keith, of Orlando, Fla., Pamela Rich and her fiance, Randy Hubbard, of Burnham, and Tammy Galbraith and her husband, Kevin, of Skowhegan; stepsisters, Jacqueline Wood of Bangor and Christine Cote of Old Town. He also had many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him very much.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend visiting hours from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville, where a public funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, with the Rev. Jacky Willhoite of the Apostolic Bible Church of Newport officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Apostolic Bible Church, 363 Moosehead Trail, Newport 04953.

Leona Mae Dennett Smith

1904-2003

AUGUSTA — Leona Mae Dennett Smith, 98, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.

She was born in Scarborough, March 24, 1904, the daughter of Leon and Emelyn (Milliken) Dennett.

Mrs. Smith was a very active member of the community. She loved serving and helping many organizations, including the Kennebec Valley Garden Club, the Republican Womens Club, the Augusta Women's club, the Order of Rebekahs and the Green Street United Methodist Church. During World War II, she was active in the Red Cross and received their medal for excellence.

Leona was a familiar sight on her porch at 28 Davenport St., where she was often called the "Mayor of Davenport Street". She was famous for knitting mittens, scarves, sweaters and caps for the children in the neighborhood and for the church. Her porch was a gathering place for children and they loved sharing their lives, dolls, plays and dances with her. Her cooking featured cookies and her famous "burned carrots."

Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Carroll Smith; her son, Robert L. Smith; her sister, Marguerite Quimby and her brothers, Carl, Don, Norman, Gordan and Roland Dennett.

Leona is survived by her daughter, Jean Bache-Wiig and her husband, John; her brother, Stanley Dennett; her grandchildren, Robert L. Smith Jr. and his wife, Ruth, Sharon Carter and her husband, Roger, Mark Smith and his wife, Diane, Terry Smith, Eric Bache-Wiig, Carol Bache-Wiig, Joseph Cloutier, Robert Cloutier, Debby Cloutier and Sherrill Cloutier; her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jeffrey Carter, Christopher and Nicole Smith, Thomas Smith and Cheranne Bennett.

There will be no visiting hours.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Green Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jan Davis officiating.

Spring burial will be in the Coombs Mills Cemetery, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Green Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, 13 Green St., Augusta 04330.

Theresa Marie Benner

1930-2003

NORRIDGEWOCK —Theresa Marie Benner, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the Sandy River Nursing Home in Farmington.

She was born in Connor, Sept. 10, 1930, the daughter of Paul and Aurore (Corbett) Soucie. She graduated from Caribou High School, class of 1948, where she was the captain of the girls basketball team. She went on and graduated from Una's School of Cosmetology in Skowhegan.

She married Lloyd Benner in Norridgewock, Oct. 29, 1949. He passed away in 1985.

Theresa was a prize winning artist. She loved skiing, snowmobiling, the outdoors, antiques, and photo collecting. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She and her husband were partners in Benner Antiques in Norridgewock. Theresa loved animals, especially her poodle, Honey.

She is survived by three daughters, Darlene Jones of Norridgewock, Lisa Lord of Skowhegan, and Jennifer Hamel of Skowhegan; three sons, Stephen Benner of Waterville, Lloyd Rocky Benner of Norridgewock, and Kim Benner of Norridgewock; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also her special friend, Gerald Palmer of Bingham, and a very special life long friend, Dawn Poirier of Norridgewock.

She was predeceased by her sister, Ida Rogers.

Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m Thursday, Jan. 30, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at the Norridgewock Community Baptist Church, Main Street, Norridgewock.

John Scott Myron

1970-2003

WINSLOW — John Scott Myron died very unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003.

He was born Nov. 27, 1970.

John was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and friend. His life was too short, but he left us with many good memories.

He will be greatly missed by his mother and father, Chris and Tom Caron of Oakland; his father, Norman Myron; his brother, Tavis Caron and his fiancee, Nikki Lacomb, of Winslow; his sister and her husband, Tammi and Kevin Galbraith of Skowhegan, and sisters, Patricia, Pamela and Michelle. He will be especially missed by his two children, Misty and Cody Myron, and his only love, Michelle; also many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at the China Baptist Church, China Village. Please join us.

Danica S. SanFillippo

1996-2003

UNITY — Danica S. SanFillippo died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Thayer Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Waterville at the age of 6.

She was born in Bangor, April 13, 1996, a daughter of Peter and Lisa (Champgagne) SanFillippo.

Danica came into this world a miracle from God. She had a flame in her, a light that drew people to her. Danica would have been 7 on April 13, 2003. She had one brother and four sisters. She was in the first grade at Mount View Elementary. Her favorite subjects were recess and computer time.

Danica had a perky sense of humor, and though she couldn't talk, she had a way of communicating with everyone she knew. Danica was a very happy little girl who loved to dance, sing and listen to rap music with her sisters, roller skate and swim. There wasn't anything Danica wouldn't try. She had a zest for life and determination to overcome obstacles in her life admirable of most adults. Danica was a gift to her father and me and the joy she brought into our lives is infinite. She loved everyone and touched everyone who knew her in some small way. I feel honored to be her mother and her presence with us is eternal.

Your family loves you Danica. You will be deeply missed.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Jerome and Joyce Audet.

She is survived by her parents, Lisa Collins and Peter SanFillippo, both of Unity; her sisters, Krista Jurdak, Dina Collins, Anna Collins, and Cameo SanFillippo; one brother, Robert Jurdak III; aunts, Stephanie Carter and Jenny SanFillippo; uncles, Danny SanFillipo, Joe Champagne, and Mark Carter; paternal grandparents, Mabel SanFillippo of Waterville, and Carlos SanFillippo of California; and cousins, Jennifer, Renee, Michael, Michaela, Mariah, Bailey, Amber, Israel, and Ryan.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Maine and Depot streets, Unity, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Rick Boyden officiating.

Arrangements are in the care of Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Unity.

Robert D. Seeley

1961-2003

ANSON — Robert D. Seeley, 42, of Anson died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born Jan. 2, 1961, in Skowhegan and attended school in Anson. He worked several years as a cook in Portland.

Mr. Seeley is survived by his mother, Catherine S. (Turner) Maheu and her husband, Robert, of Anson; three brothers, Donald M. Seeley Jr. and his wife Janice of Madison, Ricky E. Seeley of Washington State and Edmund P. Seeley of Auburn; five sisters, Kathy M. Cousineau and her husband Gerard of Madison, Sally J. York of Florida, Celeste A. MacDonald and her husband Dale of Madison, Sueann M. Carrasco and her husband Michael of California and Angela D. Longley and her husband Mike of Livermore Falls; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Seeley, and his brother, Miles L. Seeley.

Services will be in the spring at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Western Mountains Cremation & Funeral Service, Farmington.
