B. ROLAND BABCOCK PHOENIX, Ariz. - B. Roland Babcock, 77, passed away Sept. 30, 2003. He was born on Dec. 6, 1925, in Bangor, to Harry B. Babcock and Eva Hope Babcock. Roland was a graduate of Bangor High School and the University of Maine. He served

ROBERT B. DUNNING JR.

BANGOR - Robert Blaisdell Dunning, 74, of Bangor, died Oct. 1, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Bangor, the son of Robert Blaisdell Dunning Sr. and Frances (Willey) Dunning. He attended schools in Bangor and Hampden and graduated from Husson College, Class of 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Robert was manager of the paint, building materials and hardware for 33 years at the R.B. Dunning Co. of Bangor. He was a former member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, had been an active volunteer for the United Fund and a former member of the Masons and Anah Shriners. Surviving are his wife, Elaine (Ambrose) Dunning of Bangor; one son, Robert B. Dunning III of Hiram; and one niece, Frances A. Dunning. He was predeceased by two sons, James A. Dunning and David M. Dunning; one brother, John K. Dunning and a sister, Mary B. Lenihan. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A graveside service for the family only will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in his memory for those who wish may be made to Respiratory Therapy, care of Eastern Maine Charities, EMMC, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, ME 04401.

RAYMOND A. GOODSPEED (10/02/2003)
RAYMOND A. GOODSPEED HERMON - Raymond A. Goodspeed, 90, died Oct. 1, 2003, at a Brewer health-care facility. He was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Hermon, the son of Chester and Georgia (Dunham) Goodspeed.

JANET M. HEWES

BREWER - Janet M. Hewes, 69, fell asleep Sept. 29, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Brewer, the daughter of Ralph and Regina (Russell) Inman. Janet's smile and laughter was intoxicating, and she had no greater joy than her family and loved all without any boundaries. She loved God with all of her heart, soul, and strength and now is laid up for her a crown of life, which she will receive at the return of her Lord, Christ Jesus. She is survived by four sons, Scott Blythe of Ohio, Walter Wain III of Old Town, Todd Hewes of Verona, Brent Hewes of Levant; four daughters, Candi Morin of Greenfield, Wanda Dellairo of Eddington, Robin Wain of Holden, Kimberlee Hewes of Brewer; one sister, Diane Roy of Bradley; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two special cousins, Gloria Cyr, Jimmy LaGuff, both of Bangor; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews and many other dear friends. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with Michael Cox officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer, following the service.

JOHN H. HIGGINS CHARLESTON - John H. Higgins, 74, died Sept. 29, 2003, at his residence. He was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Charleston, the son of Lawrence and Geneva (Farmer) Higgins. John was born and raised in Charleston.

GLORIA A. LYONS

TRENTON - Gloria A. Lyons, 55, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2003, at a Bangor hospital, following a brief battle with lung cancer. She was born in Ellsworth, March 24, 1948, the daughter of Alison S. and Ida L. (Moon) Lyons. Gloria worked at Jackson Lab for 13 years, where she had made many advances, and most recently was working in the Cryo Laboratory as a technician. She was a strong advocate for stem cell cancer research. Gloria was a Den Leader for the Hancock Troop of Boy Scouts, of which her grandsons were members. She was also a faithful blood donor to the American Red Cross. Gloria is survived by a son, James Day and his wife, Bobbie Jo, and their children, Sarah and James, Jr.; a daughter, Rene Becker and her husband, Ronald, and their children, Brandon, Joshua, and Jessica, all of Lamoine; a step daughter, Melissa Pinkham and her husband Dwayne, and their children, Emily, Melanie, and Dwayne, all of Franklin; two brothers, James Lyons and his wife, Penny and their children, Laura and Amanda, all of Trenton; and John Frye and his wife Laura and their children, Desiree and Brock, all of Franklin; and many special friends and family members, Shirley Moon, Myrna Parker, Liz Libby, Jim and Linda Rich and family, Roy Coombs, Patricia Faulkingham, Edward Griffin, Robert Anderson, Terry Robbins, Lucky and Diana Day and family, Erwin York, and her supervisor, Sian Clements. She was predeceased by her husband, James Donald Day; a stepson, Raymond York, and a stepgrandson, Raymond York, Jr. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth. Interment will be private. Gifts in memory of Gloria may be sent to the American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.

CHARLES WORTHINGTON MANSFIELD (10/02/2003)
CHARLES WORTHINGTON MANSFIELD YARMOUTH - Charles "Charlie" Mansfield, 62, died unexpectedly Tues-day, Sept. 30, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Portland. He was born Feb. 26, 1941, in Newburyport, Mass., a son of Frances Ames Mansfield and the late Robert Mansfield.

BARBARA F. MCNAMARA COLUMBIA, Md. - Barbara F. McNamara, 88, left this life on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. McNamara who was the past International President of the International Brotherhood of Fireman & Oiler's Local Union.

ABIGAIL 'GAIL' A. OUELLETTE

NEW VINEYARD - Abigail "Gail" A. Ouellette, 72, of New Vineyard, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, 2003, in Farmington. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca J. Wetherbee and her husband, Paul; two grandchildren, Kathryn J. and William P. Wetherbee, all of Veazie. Relatives and friends may call 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Western Mountains Cremation & Funeral Service, Farmington. A Memorial Service will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Old South Congregational Church, Farmington.

EVERETT R. ROBERTS

SOUTH GOULDSBORO - Everett R. Roberts, 62, died Sept. 22, 2003, at a Jonesport healthcare facility. He was born Jan. 21, 1941, at South Gouldsboro, the son of Merrill and Effie (Myrick) Roberts. Everett worked all his life as a clam and worm digger all along the Downeast Coast. He is survived by his three daughters, Lorretta Ashmore and her husband, James, of East Orland, Geraldine Webber and her husband, Kenneth, of Machias, and Kimberly Roberts of Bangor; one son, Everett Roberts Jr. of Massachusetts; his sister, Merrilene (Roberts) Johnson and her husband, Lewis, of Cherryfield; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Mary Lou Roberts in 1992. A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the South Gouldsboro Cemetery, South Gouldsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 445, Ellsworth, ME 04605, to assist the family with his final expenses.

CAROL ANN VERNALL

PRESQUE ISLE - Carol Ann Vernall, 53, died Oct. 1, 2003, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born July 25, 1950, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Hayward and Marion Clara (Perley) Cray. Carol had been employed at Burrells in Presque Isle and loved working at the Northern Maine Fair. She loved chatting online, her cats, fishing, and enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Terry Vernall, of Presque Isle; four daughters, Julie Tompkins, and her fianc‚, Philip Palmieri, of Presque Isle, Diana Boutot and her husband, Curt, of Nashville Plantation, Sherri Kern and her husband Walter, of Caribou, Shelley Palarge and her husband, Marius, of Easton; step-daughter, Amanda Vernall, of Washburn; a sister, Debbie Cyr and her husband, Randall, of Presque Isle; her grandchildren, Mindy, Todd Jr, Josh, Derrik, Dylan, Macie, Ethan and Klairissa; several nieces and nephews; her mother-in-law, Marion Wortman of Fort Fairfield. She will be remembered by lifetime best friends, Cheryl Miller of Presque Isle and Geraldine Beckwith of Washburn. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Alfred Irving celebrant. RUBY CARLSON WILLIAMS

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Ruby Carlson Williams, 96, wife of the late Honorable Matthew Williams, died Sept. 30, 2003, at a local nursing home. She was born June 16, 1907, in Monson, the daughter of Hugh and Astrid (Hanson) Carlson. A graduate of Monson Academy, she also attended the University of Maine. She worked as a teacher and then as a secretary in her husband's law office. Mrs. Williams was a founding board member of Thayer Parkway. She chaired the rental committee and was treasurer of the organization for many years. She was the recipient of the Holmes Award from Foxcroft Academy in 2001, and was a member of the Miosac Club and the Percolator Club in Dover-Foxcroft. She is survived by two sons, M. Carlson Williams and his wife, Carolyn, of Glastonbury, Conn., Donald F. Williams and his wife, Brenda, of Junction City, Kan.; a daughter, Dione W. Hutchinson and her husband, Frederick, of Lamoine; six grandchildren, Juliana Graham and her husband Dale, of Orrington, Karen Prest and her husband, Al, of Roslindale, Mass., Kari Williams of Glastonbury, Conn., Mark Williams and his wife, Tasha of Richmond, Va., Nicole Williams and Shawn Williams, both of Junction City, Kan.; four great-grandchildren, Ben and Brian Shaw, Brittney and Jacob Prest; a special nephew, Norman Anderson of Honesdale, Pa. Friends are invited to call from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Kenneth Dale officiating. Burial will be in family lot in Rural Grove Cemetery. SHEILA MCDONALD GILMAN - NEWPORT - Sheila McDonald Gilman, 67, beloved wife of Goodwin O. "Goody" Gilman of Newport, died peacefully Friday, March 5, 2004, after fighting a brief, but courageous battle with leukemia. She was born Oct. 26, 1936, at Salem.

REV. DR. PAUL V. MALICOTE BANGOR - Rev. Dr. Paul V. Malicote died March 5, 2004, at a Bar Harbor healthcare facility. He was born April 7, 1917. Paul was a minister with the United Church of Christ. He served the Maine Sea Coast Mission in Jonesport.
