Annie J. Chase

1920-2002

CLINTON — Annie Janet Chase, 81, wife of the late Herbert Leslie Chase, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at her residence. She was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Burnham, daughter of William H. and Angie J. (Flood) Huff.

In her younger years, she enjoyed bingo, playing cards, canning and gardening. Annie loved and admired her family and was happiest during large family gatherings.

Survivors include four sons, Basil Chase and wife, Lorna, of Burnham, Darrell Chase and wife, Marie, of Palmyra, Randy Chase and wife, Sonda, of Palmyra, Lee Chase of Clinton; five daughters, Celia Thurston and husband, Mike, of Belgrade, Charlene Inman of Palmyra, Athene Stedman and husband, David, of Hartland, Kathy Anderson of Burnham, Glee McLain and husband, Dale, of Clinton; sister, Nettie Chase and husband, Everett, of Pittsfield; special companions, her dog, Bear,and cat, Chippy; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, in 1993, and five brothers.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. Burial will be at Burnham Cemetery.

Koharig 'Kay' Christie

1923-2002

DOVER, N.H. — Koharig "Kay" Christie, 79, of 167 Henry Law Ave., died at home Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.

She was the mother of John Christie of Winthrop, Maine, president of Central Maine Newspapers.

She was born Jan. 10, 1923 in Dover and was a life long resident of that community. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and was employed for 38 years at the General Electric Co. in Somersworth, N.H., retiring in 1986.

In addition to her son, she is survived by a daughter-in-law, Janet Christie, also of Winthrop, and by a grandson, Nicholas Christie of Winthrop, a senior at Bates College in Lewiston; and by a brother and two sisters. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, and by a son and two brothers.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dover Point.

Memorial contributions may be made to Behavioral Health Services, 130 Central Ave., Dover NH 03820.

Allen R. King

1925-2002

NORTH BELGRADE —Allen R. King, 77, of North Belgrade, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at home after a long illness. He was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Fairfield, the son of Adele Perry and Joseph Alfred King, both of Shawmut. He graduated from Lawrence High School of Fairfield in 1942. He then joined the Armed Services and took his basic training at Fort Robison, Ark. He joined the U.S. Army 101st Airborne and trained as a paratrooper at Fort Benning, Ga. He was shipped to England and served three years in the European sector, taking part in the D-Day invasion of France and spent his tour fighting throughout France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Allen received the Bronze Star for fighting in the Battle of the Bulge in Bastone, as well as a number of other accommodations.

After an honorable discharge, he returned to Fairfield and enrolled in Cleveland Mortuary Science, where he earned an embalmers license in 1947. He then worked for Lawry Brothers in Fairfield as an embalmer for 10 years. In 1956, he moved to North Belgrade and started his own chicken business, specializing in broilers. He also worked for Keyes Fibre for 25 years in a variety of capacities, retiring in 1986.

Allen was active throughout his life in local, civic and community organizations. He was a member of the Elks for years and served as an Exalted Ruler for two years. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and Belgrade Commander for two years. He also served as a Belgrade selectman from 1975 to 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Mable Trask King of North Belgrade; and three daughters and two sons, Rita Ann King of Bellingham, Mass., Pamela Jean Ambrose of Moultonboro, N.H., Cynthia Lou Clapperton of North Belgrade, Allen R. King Jr. of Nashua, N.H., and Peter David King of Yukon, Okla. He has 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother, Lucille Doyle of Caribou, Elaine Pooler of Fairfield, Victory Babb of Richmond, Calif., and Frederick King of Fairfield.

He has two deceased brothers and one deceased sister, Ville King of Springfield, Mo., Rita King and Rene King, both of Fairfield.

Services will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery Chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16. Friends and family will gather at the home of Nellie King after the service. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Pine Tree Camp for Crippled Children, 114 Pine Tree Camp Road, Rome ME 04963. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.

Irene R. Mayo

1916-2002

WATERVILLE — Irene R. Mayo, 86, of Waterville, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born July 10, 1916, in Waterville, daughter of Napolean and Sara Veilleux. She attended school in Canada and graduated from Winslow High School in 1935. She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Lewiston. In 1941 she married Maurice Mayo, who died Feb. 9, 2002.

She worked as a hair dresser at Peter Pan Beauty Shop in Waterville. Later, she worked at the Osteopathic Hospital in Waterville. She lived in Waterville most of her life and during retirement, she and her husband spent 24 winters in Arizona.

Survivors include four children, Patricia Brown and husband, Charles, of North Vassalboro, Richard Mayo of Waterville, Susan Mayo of Farmington, N.H., and Timothy Mayo of Surfside, S.C.; two brothers, Noel Roderigue of Winslow and the Rev. Fernand Roderigue of Joliette, Canada; two granddaughters, Annie Kline and husband, Joseph, of Old Orchard Beach, and Maggie Owen and husband, Joab, of Manchester, Conn.; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Owen of Manchester, Conn.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Alma Quirion of Winslow and Palymre Dusek of Waterville; three brothers, Lionel Roderigue of Augusta, Raymond Roderigue of Winslow and Wilfred Roderigue of Alaska.

Irene was a member of the Rosary Sodality at Sacred Heart Heart Church of Waterville.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Sacred Heart Church, Pleasant Street, Waterville. Burial follows at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are conducted by Veilleux Funeral Home of Waterville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Homeless Shelter or Mount Mercy Academy.

Joseph A. McKenney

1913-2002

WATERVILLE — Joseph Andrew McKenney, 89, of Waterville, died suddenly at his home, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002. He was born March 8, 1913, in Brunswick, son of Europe and Lucy (Peterson) McKenney.

Joe worked for the Maine Central Railroad for over 50 years before retiring and is remembered for his untiring work ethic and his deep love for his family. He instilled in his sons a deep respect for honesty and trustworthiness.

He will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends. He was a longtime Cub and Boy Scout leader and loved to go tenting with his family. Joe was a member of the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Helen F. McKenney of 19 Johnson Heights in Waterville; his eldest son, Peter and wife, Joan, of Oakland, his youngest son, Nicholas and wife, Beryl, of Gorham; and a brother, Wallace of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Joe was predeceased by a son, Theodore, a brother, Europe McKenney Jr., and a sister, Hildred McKenney Simpson.

There will be no public services and burial will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements by Redington FH of Waterville.

Wendall E. Mosher

1906-2002

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Wendall E. Mosher, 96, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at his home, Burnside Avenue. Born Sept. 3, 1906, Davenport Hill, North Jay, Maine, son of Lewis and Lelia (Perry) Mosher. After graduating from University of Maine at Orono, he was Extension Service office manager for 15 years, auditor for the National Dairy Association for four years, then managed family dairy farm, North Jay, 1949-63. From 1965-86, he was at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as research lab animal caretaker. He was an orchardist of 300 varieties of dwarf apple trees. He researched/recorded the history of Davenport Hill and Mosher genealogy.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Heaton) Mosher; sister, Elizabeth Gallagher; five brothers, Lawrence, Vern, Cleon, Reginald, and Glenn Mosher.

Survivors include son, Henry Mosher of Gray, Maine; four daughters, Athalie Southard of Killeen, Texas, Ruth Harlow of East Livermore, Maine, Sara (Sally) Giesmann of Carleton, Mich., Susan Toms of Norristown; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial service with details later to be held in North Jay, Nov. 16, followed by burial at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton. Memorial contributions are requested to The MGH Fund, Massachusetts General Hospital, PO Box 55242, Boston MA 02205-8098. Gifts may be made online at www.mghfund.org.

Mary E. Robinson

1931-2002

AUGUSTA — Mary Elizabeth Robinson, 71, of Dusty Lane, and formerly of East Moriches, Long Island, N.Y., died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Gray Birch Drive, Augusta, following a long illness. She was born in South Hampton, Long Island, N.Y., June 11, 1931, the daughter of Walter F. and Margaret S. (Smith) Robinson, and graduated from Center Moriches, NY High School, in 1947, and Brooklyn College, N.Y,, in 1958.

She had been employed by Mid-Maine Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville, for over 25 years and had previously worked at the Augusta General Hospital.

She was predeceased by her father, Walter F. Robinson Sr.; a brother, Frank H. Robinson, and a nephew, Gregory R. Baker.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret S. (Smith) Robinson of Long Island; a brother, Walter F. Robinson Jr. and wife, Diana, of Hector, N.Y.; a sister, Elaine M. Baker of Augusta; a sister-in-law, Shirley Robinson of Bremerton, Wash.; six nephews, John W. Baker and wife, Tammy, of New Sharon, William A. Baker and companion, Brenda Rowe, of Augusta, Scott F. Baker of Augusta, James Robinson of Hector, N.Y., Geoffrey A. Robinson and wife, Erica, of Seattle, Wash., and Dale Robinson and wife, Helen, of Bremerton, Wash.; two nieces, Karin E. Boutin and husband, Michael, of Augusta, and Glenda Robinson Bianco of California; several cousins, great-nieces and -nephews.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Nazarene Drive, Augusta. A committal service will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Center Moriches, N.Y. Donations may be made to: HealthReach Hospice, PO Box 829, Waterville ME 04903-0829. Marilyn A. Shorey

1946-2002

OCALA, Fla. — Marilyn A. Shorey, 56, of Ocala, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala.

She was born in Augusta, Maine, Sept. 3, 1946. She moved to Ocala eight months ago.

She had been employed at Carlton Woolen Mill in Winthrop, Maine, for 25 years. She graduated from Mid-State Business College and was employed as a medical transcriptionist for Dr. Karl Colbath.

She loved doing crafts, woodworking, bingo and traveling.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Bertie F. Shorey of Ocala; two sons, Brian Shorey and wife, Mandy, of Augusta, and Scott Shorey of South China, Maine; two sisters, Patricia Richards of Vassalboro, Maine, and Beverly Wyman of Elizabeth, Colo.; two grandchildren, Brandon and Emily; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Isiah M. Boivin

2003-2003

AUGUSTA — Isiah Matthew Boivin passed away peacefully at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in his sleep due to SIDS.

He was born Jan. 10, 2003, in Augusta. His memory will live on in the hearts of his mother, Michelle A. Berryman, and his father, Rayno M. Boivin. He will be sadly missed by his brother and sister, Caleb and Brandy Boivin, both of Augusta. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Michael and Christine Berryman of Augusta, paternal grandparents, Randal Boivin and Karen Morey of Augusta, maternal great-grandparents, Marie and Barry Lawson of Augusta, paternal great-grandparents, Maynard and Jennie Boivin of Florida, uncles, Randy Boivin and fiancée Laura, Christopher Berryman, Andrew Berryman and Joseph Berryman, aunt, Cecilia Berryman, and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. A graveside service will be announced in the spring.
