Melba A. Flood

BURNHAM — Melba A. Flood, 84, of Burnham, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at a Fairfield nursing-care facility following a long illness.

She was born March 17, 1916, in Stetson, daughter of William and Adeline (Hubbard) Reynolds.

She was the widow of Herbert Flood.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy St. Louis, of Milford, and a sister-in-law, Carmelita Flood, of Burnham.

A graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Reynolds Cemetery in Burnham. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home of Newport.

Francis G. McBay

NEWPORT — Francis G. McBay, 78, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at a Pittsfield hospital.

He was born in Somerville, Mass., the son of William and Margaret (Boudreau) McBay.

He lived in Somerville for most of his life, resided for a time in Westford, Mass., and moved to Newport 14 years ago. Prior to his retirement, Francis was employed as a union truck driver for Hemingway Transportation for 30 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 25.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Ward) McBay, grandson, Scott McBay, and brothers, William McBay and Walter McBay.

He is survived by his loving companion, Edna Chambers, of Newport; children, George McBay and his wife, Cheryl, of Gulfport, Fla., Francis J. McBay and his wife, Diane, of Wilmington, Mass., Marjorie Dearborn and her husband, Richard, of Nashua, N.H., Sandra Marchetti and her husband, William, of Cambridge, Mass., Judy Bearfield and her husband, Jay, of Gulfport; sisters, Ruth Loveliss and her husband, Richard, of Somerville, Mass., and Laura Carty, of Rhode Island; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home, 374 Main Street (Rt. 38), Wilmington, Mass.

The funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home with a funeral Mass at St. Dorothy's Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick ME 04011; or to the Greater Boston National Spinal Cord Association, Health South, NERH Way, 2 Rehab, Woburn MA 01801.

Local arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home of Newport.

Andrew W. Nadeau

HARMONY — Andrew W. Nadeau, 68, of Harmony, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at a Portland hospital.

He was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Wellington, son of Henry and Alsadie (Huff) Nadeau. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a Deputy in the Maine State Grange, the treasurer of the Mainstream Grange in Harmony and the Overseer of the Wellington Grange. He was chairman of the Harmony Planning Board. He was the Service Officer in the Stott-Flanders American Legion Post 165 in Sangerville.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 26 years, Marie (Robinson) Nadeau, of Harmony; two sisters, Annie Rooks, of Wellington, and Ella and husband, Travis Blevins, of Florida; a brother, Phillip and his wife, Norma Nadeau, of Wellington; a half-sister, Rose Andrzejewski, of Hartland; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Dexter United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cecil Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Libby Cemetery in Harmony.

Gertrude Ramsdell

INDUSTRY — Gertrude Ramsdell, 80, of Industry, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, where she had been a patient for the past two days following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Chesterville, the daughter of Clifford R. and Ella L. (Johnson) Farrington, and attended the schools of Chesterville, Jay and Wilton, graduating from Wilton Academy in 1939.

She married Sherman Ramsdell, July 1, 1950, in Livermore Falls.

She was employed for over 25 years by Farmington Shoe Co., retiring in the early 1980s.

She was a member of Northern Lites Snowmobile Club of Industry. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling, camping, traveling with bus tours and dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Sherman, of Industry; a sister, Marion and her husband, Earl Wright, of Jay; a brother, Merton and his wife, Bev Farrington, of Jay; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Maxine Paul.

Visitation hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Adams Funeral Home, 108 Court St., Farmington, with the funeral starting at 2 p.m., the Rev. John Tolman officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Farmington.

William E. Shardlow Jr.

SKOWHEGAN — William E. Shardlow Jr., 79, of Frederick's Corner Road in Norridgewock, formerly of Farmington, died late Wednesday evening, Aug. 9, 2000, at the Willows Nursing Care Center in Skowhegan after an extended battle with cancer.

He was born April 17, 1921, in East Wilton on the family farm, the first child of William Edward Shardlow Sr. and Marion (Gilman) Shardlow. Bill, or Junior, as he was known to many of his friends, attended East Wilton schools and graduated from Wilton Academy in 1940.

He was a member of the Wilson Grange in East Wilton, serving as Master in 1949 and 1950, as well as a member of the State and National Grange. He was a member of the Franklin Lodge I.O.O.F. of Farmington.

During World War II, he worked with his father on the farm and also was employed at Bass Shoe Factory in Wilton. Later, he worked as a relief projectionist at the State Theatre in Farmington. He was employed at the Wilton Woolen Co. until the spring of 1955 when the mill closed.

In 1949 he married Anna May Small of Farmington. They moved to a small farm on the Farmington Falls Road, where they raised five children. He then was employed at Farmington Shoe Co. for 27 years and continued working at the State Theatre until 1983. With the shoe factory about to close and being 62 years of age, he decided to retire from both jobs in 1983. After retirement, he delivered the Waterville Morning Sentinel and the Portland Sunday Telegram.

Bill was very interested in history and genealogy and was a member of the Maine Genealogical Society. One of the highlights in his life was a USM baseball tour to the various major- and minor-league parks and games in the summer of 1997, when he had the opportunity to meet his childhood idol, Bob Feller. He always enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's school activities and attended the Eastern Maine High School Basketball Tournament in Bangor for over 20 consecutive years.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Anna Shardlow, of Wilton; two sons, William A. Shardlow and his wife, Sharon, of Windham, and Wilbur A. Shardlow and his wife, Naomi L., of Gardiner; three daughters, Christine O'Roak and her husband, J. Charles, of Searsport, Rachel Heath and her husband, David, of Farmington, and Mary Hyland and her husband, Randall T., of Searsmont; a brother, John Shardlow, of East Wilton; a sister, Betty Tobin, of North Attleboro, Mass.; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan and Matthew Shardlow, of Portland, Nicole Willey, of Milbridge, Tyson Shardlow, of Gardiner, Jared and Jonah Shardlow, of Searsport, Joshua and Holly Heath, of Farmington, and Rose and William Hyland, of Searsmont; two great grandchildren, Anna Shardlow, of Portland, and Cole Willey, of Milbridge; and a close personal friend, Jennie Lewis, of Norridgewock.

He was predeceased by a sister, Laura DeMillo, of Jay.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, Wiles Funeral Home, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Farmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Wilson Grange or to the Maine Genealogical Society, c/o Wiles Funeral Home, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, ME 04938.

John K. Murphy

PORTLAND — A celebration of the life of John K. Murphy, former executive editor of the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at F. Parker Reidy's, 87 Exchange St.

The Old Port restaurant was a popular spot with Mr. Murphy and his co-workers from the newspaper office, a block away.

The event will be hosted by the two surviving children of Mr. Murphy, Ellen F. Barnett of Spencer, West Va., and Dr. Robert Murphy of New Haven, Conn.

Mr. Murphy died on April 28, 2000, after complications from a heart attack.

He began his 40-year career as a reporter at the Kennebec Journal in Augusta, his hometown newspaper, and retired as executive editor 10 years ago. He lived in Clearwater, Fla.

Isaiah J. Desrosiers

BENTON — Isaiah J. Desrosiers, 12, of Benton, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville following a long illness.

He was born June 8, 1988, in Bar Harbor, the beloved son of Daniel and Ginger (Gow) Desrosiers. Isaiah was in the sixth grade at Benton Elementary School.

Isaiah was an active volunteer at the Fairfield Knights of Columbus and attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Fairfield. He was a karate student at Huard's, active in the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered at the Humane Society Waterville Area animal shelter. He was involved in Native American culture and attended several Pow-Wows.

He was predeceased by his paternal great-grandfather, Jean-Guy Desrosiers.

Besides his parents of Benton, survivors include a brother, Joshua, and two sisters, Liana and Carissa Desrosiers; paternal grandmother, Rolande Jones, of Melborne, Fla., and maternal grandparents, Jackie Gow, of West Gardiner, and Charles and his wife, Donna Gow, of Augusta; great-grandmother, Edith Allard, of Augusta; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, High Street, Fairfield. Burial will follow at the Reynolds Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Road, Casco ME 04015; or the Humane Society Waterville Area, 120 Drummond Ave., Waterville ME 04901; or Make A Wish Foundation of Maine, 126 Mystic Ave., Rockport ME 04856.

Adah L. Dyer

VASSALBORO — Adah Louise Dyer, 80, of Vassalboro, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at a Waterville nursing home.

She was born July 25, 1920, in Bangor, daughter of the late Frank E. and Mildred L. (Evans) Riley.

She married Ralph B. Dyer, Oct. 29, 1939; he passed away Aug. 26, 1991. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Zephyrhills, Fla.

She enjoyed researching genealogy, was an avid reader, loved tending to her flower garden and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her three children, Thomas A. Dyer and his wife, Faye, of Vassalboro, Raymond F. Dyer and his wife, Lois, of Vassalboro, and Martha M. Winzler and her husband, Fred, of Vernon, Conn.; five brothers, Clyde Riley, of Falmouth, Mass., Walter Riley, of Belfast, Lewis Riley, of Liberty, Frederick Riley, of Winterport, and Howard Riley, of Swansville; three sisters, Edna Kenney, of Belfast, Doris Patterson, of Bangor, and Eunice Palmer, of Belfast; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.

A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the North Vassalboro Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Mount Solitude Cemetery in Monroe.

Gary A. Kinney

NORRIDGEWOCK — Gary A. Kinney, 53, of Norridgewock, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, as a result of an industrial accident.

He was born Nov. 9, 1947, in Skowhegan, son of Reginald I. and Blanche A. (Abbott) Kinney, and graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Feb. 1, 1968, to Jan. 31, 1972; he was in Vietnam from June 1969 to June 1970 and received two air medals for participating in aerial flights in extremely hazardous conditions.

He was employed by the H.E. Sargent Construction Co. from April 1970 to January 1975. He ran a farm in partnership with his Dad from January 1975 to June 1977, after which he bought the farm. He sold the farm April 15, 1989. He was then employed by S.D. Warren, May 1, 1989. He received special commendations this year from SAPPI for outstanding work performance, of which he was very proud.

He was a member of Local 9. As a farmer, he served on the following committees, Eastern Artificial Insemination Coop as part of the advisory council, as an alternate delegate and then as a delegate; Soil & Water Conservation Service on the nominating committee and an alternate on the Somerset County Committee; served as director on the Dairy Herd Improvement Association; and a member of the Farm Bureau. He loved to farm and help out other farmers and his friends on their farms. He enjoyed working even on his time off. He was a wonderful man, who will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila A. (Wilkinson) Kenney, of Norridgewock; son, Daniel A. Kinney, of Waterville, and daughter, Melissa L. Kinney, of Skowhegan; his father, Reginald I. Kinney, of Norridgewock; brother, Wayne I. Kinney, of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Pamela A. Wilkinson and her husband, Donald, of Norridgewock, and Patricia A. Mitchell and her husband, Alan, of Smithfield; foster brother, Robert Rodzen, of Madison, and foster sister, Phyllis Truex, of Florida; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ellery and Valta Wilkinson, of Skowhegan; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 261 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Community Baptist Church, Main Street, Norridgewock, with the Rev. Cecil Jones and pastor Jay Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset View Cemetery in Norridgewock.
