Raymond Lewis

NEWINGTON, Conn. — Raymond Lewis, 78, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.

He was born April 1, 1922, in Waterville, Maine, son of Harriet (Carey) and Linwood Lewis.

Ray was one of the youngest members of Company G in Waterville when they were sent overseas at the beginning of World War II and was wounded in the Pacific area, receiving the Purple Heart.

He moved to Connecticut in 1960.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jeannette, in April 1994; his son, Greg, in February 2000; and his sisters, Florence, Hazel, Muriel, Dorothy, Lorraine and Thelma; and his brothers, Howard, Carroll and Ted.

Survivors include his daughter, Roberta Noyes, and grandchildren in South Canaan, Vt.; his son, Steve and his wife, Abby, and grandchildren, Joshua, Craig and Amber, in Newington; nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and a "special cousin," Teri Bolduc, and her family in Smithfield, Maine, and many other cousins in Maine.

There will be no visiting hours. A private service will be held Friday, March 30. Arrangements are by Newington Memorial Funeral Home in Newington.

Janis A. Michaud

FAIRFIELD — Janis Annette Michaud, 65, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at a Waterville hospital.

She was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Pittsfield, daughter of Edwin R. and Glenice E. (Brooks) Libby.

She married Robert J. Michaud, Aug. 30, 1963. She enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Robert J. Michaud, of Waterville; her twin daughters, Patricia Michaud, of Oakland, and Pamela Curtis, of Owls Head; two grandchildren, Andrew and Nicole Curtis, both of Owls Head; her siblings, Anita Wyman and her husband, Richard, of Palmyra, Jaye Staples and her husband, William, of Winslow, Lita York and her husband, Ted, of Shelbyville, Tenn., Ellie Richardson and her husband, Bruce, of Unity, Edwin R. Libby Jr., of Winslow, Gail McNally and her husband, John, of Jackman, and Pamela Pamphrey, of China; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements are by Lawry Brothers Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Dean A. Moore

SKOWHEGAN — Dean A. Moore, 68, of Skowhegan, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Sebasticook Health Care Facility in Pittsfield.

He was born Nov. 16, 1932, in Norridgewock, son of James O. and Glenys M. (Berry) Moore, and attended Skowhegan schools.

He served in the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s during the Korean War and ran the first planetarium for the U.S. Air Force in Chaunte, Ill.

He married Mary Wooten, July 18, 1952, in Paragould, Ark.

He was an auctioneer in Connecticut, owner of Moore's Trading Post, retiring in 1998, and returning to the family farm.

He was a member of the National Auctioneer Association, past member of the Moose Lodge in Connecticut, and served on the Board of Grievance of the National Auctioneer Association. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and snowmobiler.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years; his father of Skowhegan; five children, Victor (Darrell) Moore, Robert Moore and his wife, Mary, all of Hadlyme, Conn., Mark Moore, of Cobalt, Conn., Deanne Moore, of Cromwell, Conn., and Kendrick (Ricky) Moore, of Skowhegan; one stepdaughter, Guinda L. Reeves, of De Soto, Kan.; four brothers, James D. Moore, of Oakland, Kenneth Moore, of Torrington, Conn., David Moore and Steven Moore, both of Bantam, Conn.; sister, Sandra Whittemore, of Skowhegan; many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a special hunting friend for 35 years, Dick Bogart, of Deep River, Conn.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Wayne Moore, and his mother, Glenys Moore.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 261 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, at the Skowhegan Federated Church, Island Avenue, Skowhegan, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will be held at the East Skowhegan Cemetery in Skowhegan.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Somerset Animal Shelter, PO Box 453, Skowhegan ME 04976.

Jean M. St. Peter

ALBION — Jean M. (Long) St. Peter, 72, of Albion, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at a Waterville hospital.

She was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Madawaska, the daughter of John Long and Regina Breton.

In 1953, she married Leon S. St. Peter, and they have enjoyed 47 years of togetherness. She was a wonderful homemaker who was devoted to raising her children and being a loving wife. She enjoyed knitting blankets for her family, listening to Elvis and Conway Twitty, spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and also enjoyed watching "Walker Texas Ranger" with her husband.

Her special grandson that she will meet in heaven, David Leon St. Peter, passed away June 15, 1999.

Survivors include her husband, Leon S. St. Peter, of Albion; her children, Ricky St. Peter, of Gardiner, Allen St. Peter, of Albion, Roger St. Peter and his wife, Rose, of Auburn, Theresa Boucher and her husband, Peter, of Pittsfield, Germaine St. Peter, of Old Town, John St. Peter and his wife, Trina, of Waterville, and Jeff St. Peter and his wife, Sheila, of Oakland; grandchildren, Laura, John Jr., Anthony, Andrew, Wendy, Roger, Scott, Peter, Michelle, Jason, Samantha, and Christopher; two great-grandchildren, Kiana and Malinda; four sisters, a brother, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the funeral home with the Rev. John Wrigglesworth officiating. Spring interment will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Albion.

Ernest Bodine

HOULTON — Ernest "Moose" Bodine, 79, of Houlton, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Long Branch, N.J., son of Cedric and Evelyn (Hotalen) Bodine.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a sergeant of the medical detachment that opened the Army Air Corp Base in Houlton and was a guard for the World War II POW camps in Southern Aroostook.

Moose was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed tying flies commercially and was written up in several national publications. His most notable creations were the Rainbow Ghost, Red Phantom, and Aroostook Maid, selling these throughout the country. He was a master fly tier and enjoyed teaching this craft to children and others. Moose was a master pipe fitter and member of UA Pipe Fitters Local 716 in Herman. He was a member of Monument Lodge No. 96 in Houlton, St. Aldemar Commandery No. 17, Aroostook Chapter No. 20, and Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor. He and his family enjoyed their camp in Dark Cove on East Grand Lake for several decades.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, MaryLouise (Higgins) Bodine, of Houlton; one daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Carl Young, of Mount Airy, Md., and one son, Matthew and his wife, Nancy Bodine, of South China; one brother, Paul K. Bodine, of Absecon, N.J.; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, grandnephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 1, at the Bowers Funeral Home in Houlton, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral will be held at noon, Saturday, June 2, at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Flye officiating. Interment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery.

Diane Pratte Demers

MADISON — Diane Pratte Demers, 91, of Lac Megantic, Quebec, formerly of Madison, Maine, died peacefully Friday, April 27, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lac Megantic following a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 5, 1910, in Lac Megantic, daughter of Azilda (Payette) and Alfred Pratte. In 1940, she married Joseph Demers. In 1950, they moved to Madison, where they lived until they retired to Lac Megantic in 1976.

Grammy Demers's greatest joys were her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lac Megantic and formerly of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Madison.

Survivors include two sons, Jean and his wife, Jo, of Embden, Maine, and Raymond and his wife, Wanda, of Madison; five grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife, Naomi, of Fort Pierce, Fla., Jay and his girlfriend, Sandra, of Newburgh, Maine, Troy, Raymond Jr., and Bruce Demers, of Portland, Maine; four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Germaine Byrns and her husband, Michel, of Lac Megantic, Lucienne Pratte Poulin, of Montreal, and Rita Fontaine and her husband, Alphege, of Sherbrooke; a sister-in-law, Clemence Lessard Pratte, of Lac Megantic, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joe; a brother, Roger Pratte; two sisters, Lena Badeau and Carmelle Rodrigue.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lac Megantic on April 30, and interment followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Lac Megantic. Arrangements were by Jacques & Fils.

James A. Florio

HARTLAND — James A. Florio, 84, of Hartland, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his residence.

James was born May 10, 1917, in the Bronx, N.Y., son of James and Helen (Nickel) Florio.

He served as a warrant officer in the Pacific Arena during World War II on air sea rescue boats. He retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in 1972, moving to Maine to enjoy hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of over 62 1/2 years, Melrose (Aitchison) Florio; two daughters, Pat Arnone, of Plantation, Fla., and Ann Florio, of Lewistown, Pa.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, June 1, at the D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral will be held at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Jamie Cahill officiating.

Gordon S. Parsons

UNITY — Gordon S. Parsons, 87, of Unity, passed away Thursday morning, May 31, 2001, at a Waterville nursing facility.

He was born in Freshwater, Newfoundland, Jan. 1, 1914, son of the late Frederick T. and Tryhenia (Penny) Parsons.

He entered the U.S. Army, Nov. 3, 1942, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged Nov. 30, 1945, with the rank of Tech 5.

He married Virginia E. Mullin, Dec. 31, 1948, and they shared 52 years of togetherness.

For several years, he owned and operated a restaurant in Massachusetts. Later he owned and operated Redi-Peel Potatoes Co. in Unity.

He was a 50-year member of the Star in the West, Lodge No. 85, A.F.&A.M. of Unity.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia E. Parsons; son, Paul G. Parsons, of Skowhegan, and daughter, Donna V. Parsons, of Stanley, N.C.; brother, Raymond Parsons and his wife, Shirley, of Unity, and sister, Dorithy Tucker and her husband, Emerson, of Reading, Mass.; sister-in-law, Stella Parsons, of Lexington, Mass.

A brother, Roy Parsons, predeceased him.

Interment will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are by Lawry Brothers Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Hershell F. Winship

SARASOTA, Fla. — Hershell F. Winship, 80, of Sarasota, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001.

Captain Winship, U.S. Air Force (retired), was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Thorndike, Maine, and attended public schools and college in Maine prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941. He rose rapidly through the ranks in the military, flew 25 combat missions in B-17 aircraft from England and was subsequently assigned to positions in the Soviet Union and France.

Returning to the United States after having served for 27 months in the European Theater during World War II, Captain Winship continued his military career, serving at several bases in the United States and two tours in Korea. He was decorated eight times and awarded ten service medals, including the Purple Heart.

Subsequent to his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1962, Captain Winship was employed as a personnel officer with the State of New Hampshire until 1975 when he was forced to retire due to ill health.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Free and Accepted Masons and the National Grange.

In addition to his widow, the former June Nickless, Captain Winship is survived by a daughter, Deborah Holliday, of Tampa, and son, Blaine, of Miami; two grandchildren, Brian, of Tampa, and Kathryn, of Los Angeles, sister, Phyllis Williamson, of Yarmouth, Maine, and a brother, Robert, of Unity, Maine; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial is to be in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. Toale Brothers Funeral Home has been in charge of arrangements.
