Richard F. Bolduc

WINSLOW — Richard F. Bolduc, 56, of Winslow, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 7, 1945, in Waterville, son of Romeo and Valida (Roy) Bolduc, and attended local schools, graduating from Waterville High School in 1964. That same year he married Francine Berry.

He was employed at the Chinet Co. in Waterville for 29 years on the wire crew.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Romeo Bolduc, and a brother, the Rev. Roger Bolduc.

He will always be remembered as being a family man.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Francine (Berry) Bolduc of Winslow; his children, Mark Bolduc and his wife, Rhonda, of Martinez, Ga., Jeffrey and his wife, Angela, of Bangor, Andrea and her husband, Aaron Culpepper, of Long Beach, Calif., and Kaitlyn Bolduc, of Winslow; grandchildren, Morgan, Jonathan, Melissa, Rebekah, and Angela; brothers and sisters, Connie Bolduc of Winslow, Adrienne Cyr of Waterville, Geraldine Quirion of Waterville, Virginia Poulin of Winslow, Pauline Roderick of Sturbridge, Mass., Gerard Bolduc of Fairfield Center, and Phil Bolduc of Winslow. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Isabel Hamlin of Winslow.

There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville, with the Rev. Ralph Boisvert officiating. Arrangements are by Veilleux Funeral Home in Waterville.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Waterville Humane Society, 120 Drummond Ave., Waterville ME 04901.

Charles W. Dunham

WINSLOW — Charles William Dunham, 83, of the China Road, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at his residence in Winslow.

He was born in Winslow, April 19, 1918, the son of William and Eva (Mayo) Dunham. He had lived in Holden for 32 years. The rest of his life, he lived in the family homestead in Winslow.

For 28 years he was a truck driver for St. Johnsbury. He had been a member of the Masonic order for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Mary (Sumner) Dunham; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Dorothy A.) Whitman, who resided with him, and Mrs. Bradford (Eva Addy Mae) Stevens of Citra, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and by a nephew, James Wells of Florida.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Marie Martha Gilbert of Gardiner, and by a sister, Jeannette Higgins.

There will be no funeral. Memorial donations in his memory may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Bangor St., Suite F, Augusta ME 04330. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.

Lois V. Mishou

AUGUSTA — Lois V. Mishou, 58, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Graybirch Drive, Augusta.

She was born in Waterville, Jan. 15, 1943, the daughter of Perley and Irene (Chute) Higgins. Lois graduated from Erskine Academy in South China, Class of 1961, and was a waitress at Christie's Restaurant in Augusta for many years. She attended the Riverside Congregational Church in Vassalboro and was a former member of the Cushnoc Grange 210, also in Vassalboro.

Lois enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Mishou, and a twin sister, Louise Baker.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Colson of Augusta; a brother, Everett "Skeet" Higgins of Litchfield; a sister, Christina Jerolmon of Vassalboro; two grandchildren, Casey and Christopher Colson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at the Riverside Congregational Church in Vassalboro, with the Rev. Lawrence Merckens officiating. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Vassalboro.

Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Riverside Congregational Church, c/o Joseph A. Dee, 30 Hayford St., Farmingdale ME 04344. Arrangements by Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta.

John B. Philson

OAKLAND — John Bertolet "Jack" Philson, 80, "the guy in the red hat" died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at the Ellis Cottages in North Belgrade following a long illness.

He was born March 16, 1921, in Springfield, Mass., son of George Hirst and Edith May (Bertolet) Philson. He graduated from Overbrook High School and attended Pierce Business College in Philadelphia. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943. Jack was a lieutenant junior grade pilot and navigator in the U.S. Naval Air Corps, having flown a PBY Space Catalina during World War II.

Jack lived many years in Elverson, Pa., and was vice-president of sales for the Cann & Saul Steel Forgings Co. in Royersford, Pa., retiring in 1976.

Jack had been a resident of Oakland since 1981 where he attended the United Baptist Church and was a member of the Decker-Simmons Post American Legion. He enjoyed stamp collecting and was a member of the Waterville Stamp Club.

Survivors include a son, John Carl Philson of Kennebunk; three daughters, Peggy Lynn Philson Foose of Herndon, Va., Jeanne Carrell Philson Sommers of Norristown, Pa., and Muriel Ann Philson of Oakland; sister, Marianne Philson Peifer of Ventnor, N.J.; five grandchildren, Janice Kuiper Rinaldo, Abbott Farwell Philson, Adrienne Chase Philson, Tara Gye-Young Foose and Michael Hyeon Foose, and two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Noel Kuiper.

A memorial funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at the Oakland United Baptist Church, Church Street, Oakland. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home in Oakland.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Colby College, Mayflower Hill, Waterville ME 04901.

Henry L. Poulin

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. —Henry L. Poulin, 80, of Fox Ridge Drive in Bonita Springs, and Hammonds Grove in Manchester, Maine, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at his home in Bonita Springs after a brief illness.

He was born in Augusta, Maine, Sept. 22, 1920, the son of Odilon Poulin and Maximilienne (Lavallee) Poulin. Henry served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was involved in the battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe in the 340th Field Artillery Battalion.

Henry was a self-employed general contractor for most of his life. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a life member of the following organizations: Calumet Club, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge of Augusta, AMVETS Capitol Memorial Post 14, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Augusta, Military Order of the Cootie and Fitzgerald-Cummings American Legion Post 2 of Augusta. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Augusta and a member of the Augusta Country Club since 1956.

His first wife, Rachael Alice (Goulet) Poulin, died April 2, 1987. He was also predeceased by eight brothers, Richard, Laurent, Gabriel, Raymond, Robert, Clement, Arthur and Victor Poulin, and three sisters, Carmen Shaw, Gertrude Russell and Yvonne Veilleux.

Surviving is his wife, Alma (Janes) Green Poulin of Bonita Springs and Manchester; three children, Diane Stanewick and her husband, Peter, of Manchester, Ronald Poulin and his wife, Dawn, of West Gardiner, Maine, and Linda Gustafson and her husband, David, of LaCanada, Calif.; one sister, Anita Bailey of Jay, Maine; four grandchildren, Scott Curtis, Sean Curtis, Eric Gustafson and John Gustafson; one great-grandson, Nathan Curtis and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, and Sunday, Aug. 12, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Prayer services are scheduled as follows: members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles are asked to meet at 7 p.m. Saturday, members of Fitzgerald-Cummings American Legion Post are asked to meet at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; members of the Calumet Club are asked to meet at 7 p.m. Sunday, and members of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks are asked to meet at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial with military honors provided by the American Legion will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Condolences to the family may be made via the funeral home website: www.plummerfh.com.

Pentti O. Seppala

FARMINGTON — Pentti O. Seppala, 59, of Farmington, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his home in Farmington following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 16, 1942, in Farmington, the son of Osca and Aune (Kallio) Seppala. He attended Farmington schools, graduated from Farmington High School, Class of 1960, attended Farmington State Teachers College from 1960 to 1962, and graduated from Bliss College in Lewiston in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1966.

Pentti worked at Farmington Farmers Union for several years in the 1960s, than worked at International Paper Co. in Jay for over 29 years, retiring in 1995.

Pentti was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to run. He was a member of Mission Congregational Church UCC in West Paris.

He is survived by aunts, uncles and cousins. At Pentti's request there will be no visitation hours. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Fairview Cemetery in Farmington. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, 108 Court St., Farmington.

Marjorie M. Haggett

KINGFIELD — Marjorie M. Haggett, 96, of Kingfield, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at her home in Kingfield.

She was born May 27, 1905, in Portland, the daughter of Lewis M. and Emma G. (Kelley) Pearson, and attended the schools of Portland.

She married Burton Haggett in Portland, June 20, 1934; he died Dec. 9, 1961. In her younger years, she worked in Portland Drug Stores. She made her home in Kingfield for the past five years moving from South Portland to be closer to her family.

She was a 50-year member of Degree of Pocahontas. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star of South Portland, Kingfield Senior Citizens and the Kingfield Historical Society. She enjoyed TV, crossword puzzles and cribbage. Marjorie loved everyone that she met.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy and husband, Norman Trenholm, of Kingfield; a son, Burton N. Haggett Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Bar Harbor; four granddaughters, Bonnie and husband, Colby Robinson, Beverly and husband, Robert Moore, Marjorie I. Trenholm, Natalie and husband, Charles Twitchell, all of Kingfield; two grandsons, David Trenholm and his wife, Crystal, of Kingfield, and Matthew C. Haggett of Portland, Ore.; eight great-grandchildren, Katie, Danielle, Dorrie, David, Mickey, Emmaline, Kristin, Torin.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Leslie, Philip, and Ralph Pearson; one sister, Marion B. Miller.

Visitation hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Kingfield United Methodist Church in Kingfield. On Tuesday, Dec. 4, visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress Street, Portland, with a service at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Forrest City Cemetery in South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Main Street, Phillips. Friends wishing may make donations in her memory to Macular Degeneration Research, 15825 Shady Grove Road, Suite 140, Rockville MD 20850-4022; or Eastern Paralyzed Veterans, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton NH 03086.

Ray M. Hathaway

ST. ALBANS/TROY — Ray M. Hathaway, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at a Pittsfield hospital.

He was born July 31, 1915, at Troy, the son of Oscar and Edna (Morton) Hathaway. On Dec. 24, 1935, Ray married the former Frances Walker.

He was a past selectman, road commissioner and volunteer fireman for the Town of Troy for many years. He was self-employed as a dairy farmer for 30 years until his son, Clifton, took over the family farm. Ray and Frances both worked at the Good Will-Farm in Hinckley for 11 years. He later served as caretaker at Island Apartments in Fairfield until the Flood of 1987, when they moved to St. Albans where he continued as a caretaker at Fairhaven Terrace.

He was a member and past deacon of Shawmut Baptist Chapel, where he also sang in the choir for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Frances Hathaway of St. Albans; a son, Clifton and his wife, Maxine Hathaway, of Dexter; a daughter, Edna and husband, Ralph Flagg, of Dixmont; a sister, Gladys Haynes of Dexter; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Victor Hathaway.

Private visitation will be held Saturday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport. A public graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the family lot, Rogers Cemetery, Troy, with the Rev. David Johnston officiating. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Shawmut Chapel, PO Box 222, Shawmut ME 04975.

Dale E. Huff

BENTON — Dale E. Huff, 44, of Benton, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at the MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville, following a long illness.

He was born Feb. 10, 1957, in Pittsfield, son of Charles A. and Thelma (Houston) Huff.

For many years, Dale was employed as a store clerk, working in Oakland, Fairfield, and for his brother in his store in Burnham.

Dale loved animals especially horses. He trained horses and enjoyed horse back riding, line dancing movies and country music. He was a former member of the Silver Spur Riding Club in Sidney.

Survivors include his mother, Thelma A. Vashon of Burnham; his lifetime partner, Raymond Gould of Benton; two sisters, Jackie and her husband, Mervin Rowell, of Pittsfield, and Wanda Reynolds of Benton; three brothers, Stuart and his wife, Susan Huff; twin brother, Dave and his wife, Gloria Huff, and Mark Huff, all of Burnham; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Charles A. Huff; his stepfather, Clifford Vashon; his brother, Charles Huff; and a special friend, Jacqueline Vashon.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport, where a funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. that evening with the Rev. Jon Ouellette officiating. Friends who wish are encouraged to make donations to the family to help with expenses. Donations may be sent to Thelma A. Vashon, 99 South Main St., Burnham ME 04922; or Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport ME 04953.

Arlene Seekins

WATERVILLE/HARTLAND — Arlene Seekins, 82, of Waterville and Hartland, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at a Waterville hospital.

She was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Hartland, daughter of Etta and Clayton Stedman, and graduated from Hartland Academy, class of 1937.

Survivors include her husband of 17 years, James Seekins of Waterville; one brother, Halver Stedman and his wife, Sandra, of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister-in-law, Thelma Stedman; two sons, Gareth Southard and wife, Verna, of Burnham, Halsen Heald and wife, Sharon, of Huntsville, Texas; two daughters, Lotena Hall and husband, Phillip, of Hartland, Janis Castonguay and husband, Richard, of Corinna; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; one niece, Lynada Hendrick of Yuma, Ariz., and one nephew, Edison Duffy Stedman, of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepson, Philip Seekins of Hartland.

She was predeceased by a brother, Alden Stedman, and a niece, Christina Thomas.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Village Cemetery in St. Albans. Arrangements are by D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
