Annabelle E. Woodard

PITTSFIELD — Annabelle E. Woodard, 72, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 28, 2001, at the Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, following a long illness.

She was born May 6, 1929, in Winterport, daughter of George and Violet (Staples) Wood.

Annabelle was a longtime employee of Dexter Shoe Co. of Dexter and Sandler Shoe Co. of Harmony.

She was a loving devoted mother, who loved to knit and sew. She would knit mittens for anyone in need. She was a loving caring person and received the WABI-TV 5 Good Samaritan Award. She also loved playing Skip Bo with her friends Cece and Evelyn. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Harmony, Skowhegan and Pittsfield.

Survivors include six sons, Sheldon Woodard and his wife, Donna, of Harmony, Marlon Woodard and his wife, Karen, of Guilford, Duane Woodard and his wife, Rose, Donn Woodard and his wife, Georgia, of Detroit, Darrell and his wife, Patty, of Pittsfield, Dennis and his wife, Pat, of Corinna; one daughter, Glenden Lockwood and her husband, Jim, of Milo; two brothers, Floyd Wood of Wellington, Bob Wood of Farmington; a sister, Mary Cobb of Harmony; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a special sister-in-law, Zelma Wood of California, very special friends, Lenea and Barry Walker, Joe and Tammy Walker.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, with the Rev. Scott Black officiating. Burial will follow at the Chadbourne Cemetery in Harmony.

Edward L. Morency

TOGUS — Unintentionally omitted from the survivors of Edward L. Morency was a sister-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Morency of Winslow, the widow of Ernest J. Morency.

Edson D. Hubbard Sr.

UNITY — Edson D. Hubbard Sr., 92, a 70-year resident of Unity, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Thayer Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center, Waterville.

He was born June 10, 1909, in Burnham, son of Hosea and Estella (Cook) Hubbard.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was predeceased by his wife, June (Reopelle) who died in 1980, as well as a son, Frankie, who died in 1975.

Survivors include his children, Harold Hubbard of Thorndike, James Hubbard Sr. of Unity, Beverly Knowles of Unity Plantation, Joan Hubbard of Unity, Larry Hubbard of Albion, Edson D. Hubbard Jr. of Winslow, Stanley Hubbard of Machias, Timothy Hubbard of Thorndike and Ronald Hubbard of Unity; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

A spring graveside service will be held at the Pond Cemetery in Unity. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Depot Street, Unity.

Marjorie E. Jenckes

1918-2002

FARMINGTON — Marjorie Evelyn Jenckes, 83, of Farmington, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, April 3, 2002, at Franklin Memorial Hospital with her son, Cal, at her side. Marjorie was lovingly cared for during her illness by her family, the health care providers at Androscoggin Hospice and Franklin Memorial Hospital as well as many friends and volunteers from our community.

Marjorie was born in Haverhill, Mass., and attended schools in Haverhill and Providence, R.I. She graduated from high school in Providence and later attended business school where she received secretarial training.

She played basketball for her high school and taught Sunday School at her Methodist church. During her business career her secretarial skills were highly regarded at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and Colt Firearms in Hartford. She retired from Connecticut Natural Gas before moving to Farmington in 1984.

Marjorie enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, the "sea shore", volunteering at the hospital and being with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ray Jenckes of Farmington, who passed away in 1997.

She is survived by a son, David Jenckes and his wife, Penny Hood, of Farmington, a son, Calvin Jenckes and his wife, Sherry Jenckes, of Farmington, and a daughter, Claudia Randall and her husband, Jake Randall, of Gore, Okla. Marjorie is also survived by eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Marjorie's life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Old South Congregational Church in Farmington.

Ernest H. Smith

1938-2002

NEW SHARON — Ernest H. Smith, 84, of New Sharon, died early Thursday morning, April 4, 2002, at his home on the Starks Road.

He was born in New Sharon, March 20, 1918, a son of Clarence B. and Fannie (Moore) Smith, and attended New Sharon schools.

On May 22, 1938, he married Blanche Jenkins; she died in March of 1991.

Ernest was employed as a truck driver throughout the state of Maine for over 32 years and later worked for Suburban Propane Co. in Augusta for 10 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member and Past Master of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 123 AF & AM of New Sharon and was a Past Master of the New Sharon Grange. He enjoyed hunting and square dancing.

Survivors include two daughters, Dawn McCourt and her husband, Dennis, of New Sharon, and Sharon O'Brien of Port Charlotte, Fla.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Arlene Witham of New Sharon.

A public graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Fairview Cemetery in Farmington. Those who desire may make memorial contributions in his memory to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, PO Box 797, Wilton ME 04924. Cremation services are being provided by the Wiles Funeral Home, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, 778-5911.

Daniel C. Flannery

1946-2002

BINGHAM — Daniel Charles Flannery, 56, died unexpectedly at his home Wednesday, June 5, 2002.

He was born July 5, 1946, in Skowhegan to Robert and Arlene (Robinson) Flannery. Dan graduated with the class of 1965 from Oneida High School in Oneida, N.Y. He served with the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he was employed at dairy farms in New York, until he returned to Maine in 1973. Dan was employed with Scott Paper Co. of Winslow for 19 years and most recently was employed in the lumbering industry in Somerset County.

Dan enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking his grandchildren for rides on his 1947 Ford tractor and his annual Flannery-Hutcheon family reunions.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sharon (Stewart) Flannery of Bingham; his sons, Will Flannery and his wife, Vivki, of Presque Isle, and Ryan Flannery of Bingham, and special friend, Hannah Hinkley of Winthrop; a daughter, Carrie Peabody and her husband, Robert, of Solon; two loving grandchildren, Cody Daniel and Miranda Kathlyne Flannery of Presque Isle; his mother, Arlene Flannery of Bingham; two brothers, Thomas Flannery and his wife, Penny, and Robert Flannery of Bingham; two sisters, Mary Jane Vaughn of Bingham and Patricia White and her husband, Barry, of Lakeville, Mass.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the 1st Congregational Church on Meadow Street in Bingham with the Rev. Douglas W. Drown. Interment will be at the Robinson Memorial Cemetery in Moscow. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home of Bingham. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Melcher Memorial Athletic Field, or to a scholarship fund of your choice, c/o Valley High School, PO Box 669, Bingham ME 04920.

Robert W. Harding

1919-2002

BENTON — Robert W. Harding, 83, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Maine Veterans Memorial Hospital at Togus.

He was born in Clinton, Jan. 18, 1919, the son of Carroll M. and Mabel (Densmore) Harding. He attended Winslow High School. Robert entered the United States Army, July 30, 1942, in the 3436th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company. He served in the Aleutian Islands campaign during World War II and received the Purple Heart on June 17, 1943. On Dec. 2, 1944, he was honorably discharged as a private.

On Aug. 8, 1946, he married Ruby Gurney and together they shared 55 years. For 18 years he was employed in the sheet metal department at the Maine Central Railroad. He was also owner and operator of Riverdale Dairy Farm and was cattle dealer until he retired.

Mr. and Mrs. Harding enjoyed 18 winters in Brandon, Fla. He was a mason for 55 years, belonging to the Waterville Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed family barbecues and lobster.

He was predeceased by a brother, Merlon Harding.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruby Harding of Benton; two sons, Robert G. Harding and his companion, Joyce Lovett, of Benton, and Daniel A. Harding Sr. and his wife, Nance, of Benton; five grandchildren, Jason Harding of Exeter, N.H., Daniel A. Harding Jr. of Benton, Jody Levasseur of Benton, Jaime Lang of Concord, N.H., and Neal Lang of Clinton; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Anthony, Casey, and Ben; two sisters, Geraldine Jackson and Irene Clement of Waterville; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, with the Rev. David Johnston of the Shawmut Chapel officiating. Burial will follow at Falls Cemetery in Benton. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville MD 20852-9813.

Maurice Leroy Lawler

1922-2002

REEDLEY, Calif. and HARMONY, Maine — Maurice L. Lawler, 79, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002, in Reedley following a five month illness.

He was born in Oakfield, Maine, July 4, 1922, the son of Marshall and Virgie (Shorey) Lawler. Maurice grew up in Harmony and in December was drafted into the U.S. Army. On April 28, 1944, while stationed in Kansas, he married Maryann Wedel. After his marriage, he received his orders to be transferred to the Pacific. He was involved in the landing at Leyte, Philippines, where he narrowly escaped death from both gunshot wounds and malaria. At one time he was listed as missing in action and presumed dead.

After his discharge, Maurice and his family settled in McPherson, Kan.,where he was employed as a truck driver for 25 years. Following his retirement, they moved to California to be closer to their three sons and their families. Maryann passed away Aug. 28, 2001, after 57 very happy years of marriage.

He is survived by three sons, Monty, Merle, and Mark Lawler, all of California; two grandchildren, Michael of California and Melissa of Idaho; a great-grandson, Matthew of Idaho; two sisters, Eva Butler and Waneta Neal, both of St. Albans, Maine; four brothers, Hector Lawler of Oklahoma, James Lawler and Earle Lawler, both of Harmony, Charles Lawler of Palmyra, Maine.

He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Frank, Freeland, and George Lawler, Freda Fanjoy, and Alice Harriman.

Lorraine M. Lessard

1936-2002

CLINTON — Lorraine M. Lessard, 66, died at her residence in Clinton after a long illness Wednesday, June 5, 2002.

She was born in Waterville, March 28, 1936, the daughter of Richard H. and Irene (Pooler) King. Lorraine was a Waterville High School graduate.

She had worked at C.F. Hathaway Shirt Co. for 45 years. She was a very caring person and was loved by all.

She is survived by a daughter, Vonda Lessard of Portland; a son, Todd Lessard and his wife, Angela, of Old Orchard Beach; her mother, Irene Pooler King of Clinton; two sisters, Joyce Hachey and husband, Frank, of Winslow, and Nancy Smith with John Burns, both of Clinton; her best friend, Terry Johnston of Waterville; special cousin, Joan Kane of Winslow; and by many friends at C.F. Hathaway Shirt Co. in Waterville; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Richard H. King, and a sister, Beverly Gagne.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at St. John the Baptist Church, 47 Monument St., Winslow, with the Rev. Paul Plante officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston MA 02115; or to the Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville ME 04901. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.

Oura Mary Pelletier

1916-2002

BINGHAM — Oura Mary Pelletier, 85, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

She was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Stockholm, the daughter of Jean Batiste and Alexina (Rossignol) Roy.

She was married Oct. 23, 1933, to Docite Joseph Pelletier. She had been a resident of Bingham for many years. She was employed at Quimby Veneer Mill in Bingham for 23 years and also worked in the kitchen at Thompson's Restaurant for five years. She was a communicant of St. Peters Catholic Church in Bingham.

Her husband, Docite Joseph Pelletier, a son-in-law, Douglas P. Dolan, and two brothers, Adelard Roy and Oscar Roy, died previously.

She is survived by three daughters, Sylvia J. Dolan, Sylviana T. Rolfe and her husband, Rodney, and Gloria Anne Lancaster and her husband, Gary, all of Bingham; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Althea Roy, several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, at St. Peters Catholic Church on Owens Street in Bingham with the Rev. Marcel Chouinard officiating. Interment will be at Robinson Memorial Cemetery in Moscow. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate Inc., PO Box 346, Augusta ME 04330-0346.

Charles O. Wyman

1910-2002

NORTH ANSON —Charles Oran Wyman, 91, died peacefully at home with his family by his side Wednesday, June 5, 2002.

He was born July 29, 1910, in Troy, the son of Calvin C. and Gladys (Smith) Wyman. He entered the Pownal State School in June of 1920 and was discharged Jan. 4, 1933. Charles served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Grace Moore in 1946. Charles was a born again Christian who loved the Lord, his most loved interest were, fly-tying, fly fishing, story telling and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

His former wife, Grace (Moore) Lucas, died previously.

He is survived by a son, Richard Wyman and his wife, Suzanne, of Moscow, his daughters, Nancy Grover and her husband, Ronald, of North Anson, and Linda Dufault and her husband, James, of Moscow; a stepson, Carl Moore Sr. and his wife, Ruth, of North Anson, stepdaughter, Tina Lucas of Madison; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Hebert Wyman and his wife, Marcia, of Illinois, and Jasper H. Wyman and his wife, Phyllis, of Pittsfield; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Robinson Memorial Cemetery in Moscow with the Rev. Richard Berry officiating.
