Harry Clayton Lawler

1942-2003

GRAY — Harry Clayton Lawler, 60, of Leavitt Avenue, died suddenly on Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at his home.

The son of Beatrice Mary Bruns, he was born in Portland on Sept. 7, 1942, and lived in Gray with his brother, Charles Lawler Bruns, and his family.

He graduated from Pennell Institute in 1961, where he participated in various sports and was a key member of the basketball team that won the 1961 Class M State Championship.

He joined the Air Force, using the buddy system with Norm Wilson, and served from 1962-68 with a tour of duty in Thailand.

He retired from the MDOT after 25 years of service and subsequently worked in construction. Dayton Sand and Gravel currently employed him.

He was active in a variety of sports throughout his lifetime, both as a participant and as a fan. He was an avid golfer and belonged to Poland Spring Golf Club. He participated in the weekly MSGA Golf Tournaments.

He was an active member of Saint Gregory's Parish, where he was a Eucharistic minister. He also was active in the American Legion Post 86 in Gray and the Eagles Club in New Gloucester.

He is survived by his son, Shawn Lawler; and his ex-wife, Gerry, both currently living in Texas; in-laws Buck and Louise Hastings; nephew Brian Hill of Florida; his brother, Charles Lawler Bruns, of Gray; and a large extended family.

Harry was recently very active in supporting and assisting in the fund-raising events for Danielle Hall (a young woman waiting for a heart transplant at Boston Children's Hospital) and the family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers. A memorial gathering will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the Gray American Legion Post 86, Lewiston Road, Gray. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in Gray Village Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Lavoie will be the celebrant. Gray Village Cemetery is located directly across from Exit 11 of the Gray Turnpike.

Edward F. Macomber VIII

1945-2003

PITTSTON — Ed's time here with his family and friends ended Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003.

His family and being home with Wanda, his wife of 18 years, was his love. Ed was very proud of all his children and enjoyed his community and friends.

Ed loved going to sea and professionally he spent 39 years traveling around the world. Though he spent so much time at sea, the center of his life was coming home. Ed was a wonderful man with a big heart and a gift for storytelling.

Ed was born on April 16, 1945, at Boston Lying-In Hospital in Boston, the son of Priscila (Clifford) Macomber and Edward F. Macomber VII. He grew up in Plymouth, Mass.

As a boy, he was involved in Boy Scouts, was the president of 4-H, was involved in DeMlay/Masonic Temple and held all the offices in that organization. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1963.

Ed attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzard's Bay from 1965-68, earning a bachelor of science degree in nautical science. He was a member of the rifle club there. Upon graduation, Ed entered the Navy, where he served from 1968-71.

Ed was awarded a Conphiblant Letter of Commendation, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service medal with two Bronze Stars for his service to the nation.

He was employed at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Getty Fleet Corp., Liberty Maritime Corp., Crest Tankers, Inc., Dyn Marine Services and currently for Maersk Lines LTD.

Ed was involved in the Marco Polo Expedition with National Geographic Society on the USNS Kane in 1995. At this time he was named the honorary mayor of a small town in Italy.

He was a lifetime member of the U.S. Naval Institute; Massachusetts Maritime Academy Alumni Association; the VFW in Plymouth; the American Legion in North New Portland; member of the Masonic Temple in Plymouth, but attended local lodge meetings; and the Order of the Eastern Star Marion Chapter 63.

Hunting, fishing and the Pittston Fair were all activities that he enjoyed. When he was home, he enjoyed being associated with the Pittston Fire Department.

Ed was predeceased by his grandfather, Arthur Clifford "Barky," who was a significant influence in his choice of career. He was also predeceased by his father, Edward F. Macomber VII, and two brothers, Robert and William.

Survivors include his mother, Priscilla (Clifford) Macomber of Hawaii; his wife of 18 years, Wanda Pinkham Burns-Macomber, of Pittston; three sons, Edward (Bic) F. Macomber IX, of Searsport, N.Y., Matthew Clifford Macomber and wife, Melissa, of Plymouth, and Travis W. Burns of Pittston; three daughters, Janet (Jamie) Mooney and husband, Patrick, of West Virginia, Katherine Macomber of Machais and Grace Pinkham Macomber of Pittston; his nephew Sean R. Macomber and wife, Marcia, of Unity; two grandchildren, Caitlin Mooney and Devan Burns; one grandniece, Hailee Macomber; and two grandnephews, Ethan Macomber and Cade Macomber; also several nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.

Visiting hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a 10 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9. Burial will follow in Lexington Flats Cemetery, North New Portland. Please join the family in celebration of Ed's life at 6 p.m. Saturday evening, Aug. 9, at the Community Hall on the Pittston Fairgrounds, Route 194, Pittston.

Harold F. Markham

1933-2003

CHELSEA — Harold Markham, 70, of Chelsea, departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003.

Harold was born April 26, 1933, the son of Ray and Ina Markham of Chelsea.

Harold was survived by his wife, Linda Markham of Chelsea, and her children, George Weston III and Sherry McLaughlin. He also leaves behind many family and friends including sons Mark Markham and wife, Mary, of Greenville, S.C., Les R. Walker and wife, Rebecca, of New Sharon; daughters K-Marie Markham Griffin and husband, Pete, of Moose River, and Claudia Walker of Day, Fla.; as well as a host of wonderful grandchildren.

Harold will be remembered as a fun and loving father and grandfather. Harold was an avid model airplane hobbyist, motorcyclist, gardener and lover of the outdoors.

A time of remembrance will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Kennebec Valley Assembly of God, located at 44 Hallowell Road, Chelsea.

Flowers can be sent ahead to Kennebec Valley Assembly of God.

Patsyann Evelyn "Sally" Paul Quimby

1942-2003

CANAAN — Patsyann Evelyn "Sally" Paul Quimby of Salisbury Road died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, following a brief but brave battle with lung cancer, surrounded, as she lived, by her family.

She was born in Portland at Mercy Hospital, April 2, 1942, a daughter of Herbert Francis and Caroline Josephine Sewall Paul.

On Jan. 31, 1976, she married David Lloyd Quimby in Caribou. They raised their family in Caribou and moved to the Waterville area in 1987.

She is survived by her husband, soulmate and best friend, David Lloyd Quimby; their five children, Terrance Leigh Carter and his wife, Patricia, and daughters Jessica and Jennifer, of Standish, Colon Leigh Carter Jr., his wife Cynthia, and their children Ian and Hillary of Gardiner, Ruth Evelyn Bragdon Rose, her husband, Christopher, and their children, Charles and Emily of Harpswell, Kevin Scott Bragdon of Waterville, and Lisa Jean Pickard Boivin and her children, Austin Wing, Ashley Wing and Bradley Boivin of West Gardiner. She is also survived by three brothers, George Edward Paul and his wife Viola of Waterville, Peter Herbert Paul of Canaan, and Matthew Delano Paul of Florida; and a sister, Mary Theresa Paul Edgecomb and husband, Jeff, of Augusta; and by many, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Her special friend Obeline Plourde Morrill of Caribou also survives her.

She was predeceased by her mother in 1951; her father in 1986; two brothers, Nathan Gray Paul in 1974 and Patrick Francis Paul in 1970; and a grandson, Bryan James Carter in 1990.

Family and friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond, and Monday Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church, 273 Water St., Skowhegan.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the church, with Father Chouinard officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Hartland Road, Canaan.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Topsham ME 04086.

Marvin R. Lovely

BURNHAM — Marvin R. Lovely, 71, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland.

He was born March 11, 1929, in St. Albans, the son of Bert and Lena (Emery) Lovely.

Mr. Lovely was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, being stationed in Germany.

He married Edwina Curtis, Aug. 5, 1978.

For over 20 years he was employed by Cianbro, first as a state certified licensed mechanic, and later retired as a truck driver.

He was a member of American Legion, in Waterville, and National Rifle Association.

Marvin enjoyed talking on citizens' band radio, hunting, and fishing. He loved being a father and grandfather.

Mr. Lovely was predeceased by three children, Blaine, Wanda, and Cindy Lovely, a brother, Ransford Lovely, and a baby sister, Geraldine Lovely.

He is survived by his wife, Edwina Hight Lovely, of Burnham; seven children, Mary Allen, and her husband, Dane, of Hartland, Beverly Chase, and her husband, David, of Burnham, Randy Hight Lovely, and his wife, Shelly, of Hartland, Debbie Braley, and her husband, Jody, of Burnham, Brenda Lovely, of Pittsfield, Linda Lary, and her husband, Carl, of Hartland, and Timothy Lovely, of Pittsfield; two sisters, Myrtle Lovely Marble, of Hartland, and Deanna Lovely Tilton, of Pittsfield; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5. Burial will follow, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland.

Lucy B. Plummer

AUGUSTA — Lucy B. Plummer, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness.

She was born in Caribou, July 29, 1917, the daughter of Temperance and Sandy (Skidgell) Towers.

Lucy spent her life as a homemaker, and was involved in many children's lives as a special grammy, especially to Wendy Moore.

She loved to spend time at camp, in Eustis, with her family and friends. She enjoyed visits to the coast, and stopping at yard and lawn sales. Her many cats were an important part of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Plummer, and two sons, William Spaulding, and Arthur Kenney.

Surviving are a son, Edward Spaulding, of Waterville, and his children, Bert, Edward, William, Timothy, Daniel, and Roy Spaulding, and Lisa Madore, son, Roy Spaulding, of Lebanon, Conn., who, because of illness couldn't be here and wanted her to know he loved her very much, and his children, William, John, Sherri, and Jennifer Spaulding, and Loretta Lathe, son, Thomas Giddings, of Selena, Ala., and his children, Charles, Montgomery, and Renee Giddings; daughter, Loretta Rabassa, of Fairfield Center, and her children, Vicki Tourtelotte, Nancy Wood, Ernest, Juliann, Diana, and John O'Connor; and granddaughter, Heidi Kenny. Also surviving are a sister, Stella Skidgel, of Gardiner; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Allen Cemetery, Route 17, Chelsea.
