Arbour Service

A Mass of Christian burial for Muriel I. Biron Arbour, who died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, was celebrated Saturday morning, May 27, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Seavey, pastor, officiating.

Altar servers were Juan Guzman and Robert Paradis. Organist was Linda McCormick, and soloist was Sharon Paradis. Eucharistic minister was Joan Adams.

The first reading was given by a granddaughter, Michele Fox, and the second reading was given by a granddaughter, Betty Poulin. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by a sister-in-law, Laurie Arbour. Taking part in the Offertory Procession were granddaughters, Melinda Fox, Lisa Finneran, and Barb Lavoie. Words of remembrance were read by a grandson, Rob Poulin, and a poem was read by a granddaughter, Melinda Fox.

There were representatives from St. Andrew's Catholic Church, St. Andrew's Senior Citizens, Happy Family Senior Citizens, and Cushnoc Senior Citizens.

Honorary pallbearers representing the Cushnoc Senior Citizens were Marie Louise Lachance, Germaine Parlin, Alice Fortin and Muriel Giroux. Active pallbearers were Fred Anderson, grandsons Derek Albert and Brian Arbour, sons-in-law Richard Fox and Robert Poulin, and grandson-in-law, Robert Finneran.

Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery, where Rev. Seavey offered committal prayers.

Arrangements were by Plummer Funeral Home, Augusta.

Marion A. Babb

RICHMOND — Marion A. Babb, 88, formerly of Kimball Street, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Amenity Manor in Topsham after a short illness.

She was born July 19, 1911, in Plaistow, N.H., the daughter of John and Jenny (Jordan) Huntington, and graduated from Litchfield Academy, class of 1930.

Marion was a dedicated mother and homemaker during her children's growing years. She later went to work for Etonic Shoe in Richmond.

She was an avid sports fan and attended all the sporting events while her children were growing up. Marion continued this love, watching the local children and their children participating in the sporting activities. Rain or shine you could find her in attendance at soccer, baseball, softball and basketball events. She was made an honorary member of Richmond High Schools "R" Club, an honor she was very proud of and cherished dearly.

Marion always found time to visit and talk with friends, especially when they were home bound. She was very active in the communities' organizations, member of the Dresden-Richmond Methodist Church, Richmond American Legion Women's Auxiliary for more than 54 years, past women's auxiliary president, chairman of poppy sales and delegates to Girls' State, life member of the Electa Chapter of the Eastern Star in Bowdoinham, and former member of the Richmond Booster Club.

She enjoyed her children, family, traveling and helping people.

Marion was predeceased by her husband, William Babb, in 1980; son, Ronald James Babb, in 1957; brothers, John, Horace, Floyd, Nathan Huntington, and sister, Clara Hayes, of New Hampshire.

Survivors include her sons, Roger Babb, of Brunswick, and James Babb, of Bowdoinham; daughter, Cheryl Temple, of Topsham; brothers, George and Percy Huntington, of Randolph, and sister, Helen Howard, of Richmond; her grand- and great-grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Lane Babb of Virginia, Debra Wentworth of Topsham, Ronald and Brooke Babb of Bowdoinham; great-grandchildren, Levi III and Ryan Wentworth of Topsham, Tyson McGee of Pittston; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 2, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 3, at Kincer Funeral Home, 14 South Pleasant St., Richmond, with a Women's Auxiliary service being held at 7 p.m. on Monday followed by an Eastern Star service.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at the Dresden-Richmond Methodist Church with pastor Margaret Queior officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery. There will be refreshments served following the services at the Richmond American Legion Post 132 on Carding Machine Road; all are welcome.

Donations in memory of Marion may be made to: Hospice of Midcoast Maine, 58 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick ME 04011. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Dora LeClair

AUGUSTA — Dora LeClair, 83, formerly of Bangor, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, June 29, 2000, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Graybirch Drive, Augusta.

She was born May 4, 1917, in Old Town, daughter of Lewis and Alice (Thibodeau) LeClair.

Dora had been the cook for the president at the University of Maine at Orono before retirement. She had resided for many years at Finson Road Boarding Home in Bangor and enjoyed cooking, reading and spending time with her pet birds.

Dora thoroughly enjoyed her special outings with her friend and guardian, Fran. She will be greatly missed by the staff and residents at Finson Road as well as by her very special friend.

Survivors include a brother, Wilbur LeClair, of Orono.

There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner, with the Rev. Gilbert Patenaude officiating. Arrangements are by Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home of Augusta.

Fred J. Todd

AUGUSTA — Fred J. Todd, 86, of Augusta, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at the Augusta Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Center.

He was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Westfield, son of Whitney and Blenda (Seeley) Todd, attended Westfield High School and graduated from Hallowell High School in 1931.

He married Vellora Trueworthy in 1939.

He was a dairy farmer in Brooks for more than 30 years.

He was a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge 136 in Monroe and enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing bridge.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1994, a son, Linton Todd, in 1979, and two sisters, Gladys Watson and Bertha Lenentine.

Survivors include a son, Keith E. Todd, and his wife, Sharon, of Belgrade; brother, Alfred Todd, of Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Kristin, Kevin, Julie, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Joella and James; and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at the Kenney Cemetery, Reynolds Road, Brooks, with arrangements by Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home of Augusta.

Murray H. Litchfield

BRUNSWICK — Murray Horace Litchfield, 81, of Magean Street, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Mid Coast Hospital.

He was born in Brunswick, Oct. 24, 1918, the son of Horace L. and Carrie M. Cairns Litchfield. He attended Brunswick schools, and was a 1937 graduate of Brunswick High School.

Mr. Litchfield received additional schooling at Bell Telephone Laboratory, in New York, Philco Training School, and the RCA Laboratory, in Camden, N.J.

During World War II Mr. Litchfield was one of the first Americans permitted to study the British radar system and also worked to remove IFF equipment from incoming planes.

He then went to work for Western Electric, in New York, and assisted in the building of the radar model for the B-29, which had not yet been built.

On June 10, 1948, he married Edith Toothaker.

Mr. Litchfield then went to work for Northern Electric, in Brunswick, as a television repairman, where he worked for 20 years. For 15 years, until retiring in the 80's, Mr. Litchfield worked as a biotechnical engineer for Mid Coast Memorial Hospital.

He was a longtime ham radio enthusiast who communicated with people all over the world. His station was W1KJU. He also enjoyed photography, and developed his own pictures as well as producing bromoil prints.

He was active with the Pejepscot Historical Society, and took particular interest in Civil War hero Joshua Chamberlain. He was also active with the Maine Maritime Museum, in Bath.

He was predeceased by a brother, Russell Litchfield, on Jan. 18, 1993.

Surviving besides his wife, of Brunswick, are a son and daughter-in-law, Murray and Cheryl Litchfield, of Bowdoinham; five daughters, Mrs. John (Lorna) Lavigne, of South Harpswell, Mary Wiley, of Richmond, Mrs. Charles (Donna) Wall, of South Carolina, Mrs. Timothy (Kathy) Vaughn, of Bowdoin, and Mrs. Eric (Dawn) Sargent, of Brunswick. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Carroll Pennell officiating. Interment will follow, in Varney Cemetery, Brunswick.

Memorial donations may be made to Pejepscot Historical Society, for Joshua Chamberlain preservation and historical development, 158 Maine St., Brunswick 04011.

Irma T. Gordon

BRUNSWICK — Irma T. Gordon, 84, of Water Street, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Mid Coast Hospital, in Brunswick.

She was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Orono, the daughter of Otis O. and Ethel (Loundsbury) Taylor. Irma graduated from Orono High School.

She was employed over a 50-year span by Wilson's Dollar Store, in Winthrop, as a clerk, manager, and for the last 10 years of her employment, as a buyer for the store.

She was a master cook, according to her family, and particularly enjoyed knitting and making afghans for her friends, acquaintances, and family. Irma's friends and family were very special to her, and it was important to her that she correspond with them on a regualr basis. She will be dearly missed by them all.

Mrs. Gordon was predeceased by her husband, Charles M. Gordon Sr., on Jan. 21, 1980, and by her sister, Kathleen Haley.

She is survived by her son, Charles M. Gordon Jr., and his wife, Andrea, of Brunswick; and six grandchildren, Alexis Gordon, of Los Angeles, Calif., Kara Gordon, of Mineola, N.Y., Nicholas Gordon, of San Francisco, Calif., and Alexander, Blake, and Jackson Gordon, all of Brunswick.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Roberts Funeral Home, 26 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. Irma will be laid to rest next to her husband, in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, at a later date.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to CHANS Hospice Care, 50 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick 04011.

Mariel J. Ingraham

SOUTH PASADENA, Fla. —Mariel J. Ingraham, of South Pasadena and Augusta, Maine, passed away at home under hospice care on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000.

She was the wife of former longtime Augusta City Councilman Alden L. Ingraham.

In Augusta she worked for Maine Municipal Association, Maine Municipal Bond Bank, Medical Care Development, and Universalist Church.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and Augusta Country Club.

Mrs. Ingraham was predeceased by her son, Eric T. Macomber, in 1982.

Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Allen L. Ingraham; her daughter, Susan Vanderwood, and children, Amanda, Andrea, and Max Burr, and Graham and Zane Vanderwood, of Langley, Wash.; stepchildren, Carol Michaud, Bryce and Scott Ingraham, and their children, of Maine; her sister, Karen Burney, of Florida; a brother Robert Peice, of Massachusetts; cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at a later date, in Augusta.

Donations may be made to hospice.

Phyllis M. McGray

AUGUSTA — Phyllis (Merchant) McGray, 84, of Augusta, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Graybirch Drive, Augusta.

She was born Feb. 28, 1916, in South Gardiner, the daughter of Charles and Viola (Bryant) Merchant.

Mrs. McGray was employed by the state as a secretary for 34 years, the last 20 of those years as secretary to the commissioner of finance and administration. She retired in 1970.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visiting hours or funeral service. Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her husband, Cecil, in Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Pet Haven Lane, Augusta 04330.

Arrangements are by Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta.
