Cecile M. Siviski

YARMOUTH — Cecile M. Siviski, 81, of Yarmouth, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Brentwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Yarmouth after a lengthy illness.

The oldest of 10 children, she was born in Waterville, daughter of Joseph and Bernadette (Ducas) Nicholas. A lifelong resident of the central Maine area, she attended Fairfield schools and spent most of her life in Winslow, where she raised a family. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was a dedicated mother to her four children.

She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow for more than 50 years.

Her husband, Edmund "LaMouche" Siviski, died Oct. 7, 1972.

She had worked at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Library in Waterville until the age of 70 and was also a hairdresser at Evangeline Beauty Salon in Waterville during her younger years. She enjoyed family camping and fishing expeditions with her husband. She was very active with community service, volunteering for years in cancer and heart fund drives. An avid sports fan, she had been an active member and officer with the Winslow Athletic Boosters and the Winslow Music Boosters.

Survivors include three sons, Michael, and his wife, Kathy, of Winslow, Ronald, and his wife, Patricia, of Yarmouth, Peter, and his wife, Janet, of Lewiston; daughter, Paula Richardson, and her husband, Jay, of Cumberland; three sisters, Marion Will, of Scarborough, Adeline Paquette, of East Hartford, Conn., and Regina Gall, of Scarborough; three brothers, Edward Nicholas, of Chelsea, Robert Nicholas, of Winslow, and Norman Nicholas, of Winslow; four grandsons, Joseph, Matthew, Stephen and Scott; and five granddaughters, Elizabeth, Jenna, Jane, Melanie and Anya.

She was predeceased by two brothers, William Nicholas and Leo Nicholas; one sister, Jeannette King; and an infant daughter, Mary.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at St. John the Baptist Church, Monument Street, Winslow. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.

Herve R. Veilleux

AUGUSTA — Herve R. Veilleux, 80, of Mount Vernon Avenue, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Nicholson's Longterm Care & Rehabilitation Center in Winthrop after a long illness.

He was born in St. Benoit, Canada, July 17, 1921, the son of Henri and Clara (Vallee) Veilleux. He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and had been employed by J.J. Nissen's for more than 40 years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Annette J. (Roy) Veilleux; and two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Claude and Steve Veilleux, both of Augusta; two daughters, Claudette Bourassa and Carol Veilleux, and her longtime companion, Craig Dube, all of Augusta; two brothers, Benoit Veilleux, of Canada, and Gaetan Veilleux, of Augusta; four sisters, Elaine Roy, Cecile Vallee, Gisele Dulac and Francoise Pepin, all of Canada; and four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Kendall Street, Augusta. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta. Evelyn Labbe

AUGUSTA — A Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Evelyn Labbe, who died Nov. 27, was celebrated Friday morning at St. Augustine Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Patenaude, retired, officiating. Altar servers were Jerry Rancourt and Gerard Rouleau. Organist was David Stewart and soloist was Arthur Pare. The first reading was read by a grandson, David Fleury, and the second reading was read by a granddaughter, Barbara Getty. Taking part in the Offertory Procession were Mrs. Labbe's granddaughters, Sophia Latno, Amanda Latno and Susan Hanna. Words of Remembrance were offered by a granddaughter, Diane Arbour, and grandsons, Joseph Labbe and Dave Fleury.

There were representatives from the church, the Ladies of St. Anne Society, St. Agnes Circle Daughters of Isabella, Cushnoc Senior Citizens, Augusta Kiwanis Club, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and Augusta Fuel Co. Honorary bearers representing the Ladies of St. Anne Society were: Theresa Tardiff, Geraldine Grenier, Lorraine Douin and Jeannette Beaudoin; representing St. Agnes Circle Daughters of Isabella were: Joan Giroux, regent, Lorraine Trytek, Lorraine Noel and Rose Johnson; representing Cushnoc Senior Citizens were: Gracia Julien, Rita Dostie, Carmelle Gregoire and Laurette Arbour. Active pall bearers were: John Labbe, Peter Labbe, Daniel Fleury, Michael Labbe, Gerry Latno and Liz Lewis. Burial was in the family lot in St. Augustine Cemetery, Townsend Road, where the Rev. Patenaude read the committal prayers.

Francis E. Crowley

2002

CLEARWATER, Fla. —Francis E. Crowley, 88, of Clearwater, died at his residence Aug. 1, 2002, under the care of hospice.

Born in Greenville, Maine, he moved to Florida from Augusta in 1977.

Mr. Crowley was graduated from Greenville High School, Higgins Classical Institute, and the University of Maine, class of 1937.

He was a mechanical engineer and consulting engineer, retiring as a civil service employee of the state of Maine.

Mr. Crowley was past master of Columbia Doric Masonic Lodge 149, Greenville, member and past patron of Miriam Chapter 40, Order of Eastern Star, Dover-Foxcroft, past president and charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Greenville, life member of the Kiwanis Club of Augusta, and a volunteer with the local hospice foundation.

Surviving family includes his wife of 60 years, Ruth L. Levensalor Crowley of Clearwater; a son, William F. (Bill) Crowley of Farmingdale; a granddaughter, Cheryl Skaggs of Colorado; and great-grandchildren Jessica and Tanya Smith.

A memorial funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at the Hospice House Chapel, Largo.

The family prefers if you wish, contributions to the Hospice Foundation of the Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo 33770-9850.

Arrangements are in the care of Curlew Hills Funeral Home, Palm Harbor.

Marie E. Dostie

1905-2002

AUGUSTA — Marie Edith Dostie, 97, formerly of Mount Vernon Avenue, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Augusta, April 23, 1905, the daughter of Augustin Cloutier and Angelina (Mathieu) Cloutier.

Mrs. Dostie was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She had been employed by Bates Manufacturing Co. for 20 years and by E.E. Taylor Shoe Co. for 10 years while raising 12 children.

She was an extraordinary person with many natural talents. She could tat, crochet, sew, quilt and make braided and hooked rugs. As a young mother, she would make many of her children's clothes. Over the years, in her "spare" time, she tatted beautiful ladies' handkerchiefs, crocheted countless afghans and made about 100 quilts. She shared most of these items with family and friends.

Marie Edith was predeceased by two husbands, Albert Soucy and Alonzo Dostie. She was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Soucy, and a daughter, Ann Marie Gagne.

Surviving are five sons, Herman Soucy and John Soucy of Largo, Fla., Rene Soucy of Manchester, N.H., George Soucy of Belgrade, and Arthur Soucy of Mount Vernon; five daughters, Albertine Labbe, Theresa Smith, Gloria Fleming and Rose Couture, all of Augusta, and Constance Beckim of Gardiner; one brother, Rosario Cloutier of North Whitefield; two sisters, Marion Fortin and Reinette Dearborn, both of Augusta; one stepson, Gabriel Dostie; two stepdaughters, Rachael Violette and Pauline Gauthier; 42 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. Albert E. Flood

1944-2002

WATERVILLE — Albert E. Flood, 57, known to all as "Ed," died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in a vehicle-pedestrian accident while working in Windsor on Tyler Road.

He was born Dec. 3, 1944, in Burnham, the son of William Huff and Albert Huff, and mothers Laura Huff and predeceased by Elizabeth Flood.

Survivors include his former spouse and companion, April Flood; sons Albert Nutter and Richard Nutter, daughter Rhonda Cote; five grandchildren, Justin and Megan Nutter, Brian and Ross Cote, and Kobe Nadeau; four brothers, Brian Huff, Rod Huff, Roger Huff and Tim Huff; three sisters, Janet Frost, Lila Casanaugh and predeceased by Nan Duprey; many nieces and nephews; and also a close friend, Wanda Reynolds.

He had been employed by Lucas Tree since 1966. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. His No. 1 passion was collecting antiques. He loved spending time with his family and bowled for many years on a league. He was known to everyone as a simple, gentle kind and caring man. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Rhonda Cote, 11 Wentworth Court, Oakland 04963, to be used for a charity in Albert's name.

Wayne P. Gero

1950-2002

AUGUSTA — Wayne P. Gero, 52, of South Belfast Avenue died unexpectedly July 26 in Fayette.

He was born in Greensboro, N.C., July 17, 1950, the son of Alvah Gero and Yvonne (Poulin) Gero.

Wayne had been employed by Bath Iron Works as a welder for several years.

He was a member of United Bikers of Maine.

Surviving are a son, Brashua Gero of Manchester, N.H.; two brothers, Roland A. Soucy of Franklin and Joseph Soucy, Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Carmen Peters of Hudson, Fla., and Dolly Tyndall of Monroe, N.C.; and a special cousin, Shirley Rocque of Augusta.

There are no public visiting hours planned. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Plummer Funeral Home, Augusta.

Geraldine Winnifred Brown

1917-2002

WALDOBORO — Geraldine Winnifred Brown, 85, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro.

She was born in Yarmouth, March 1, 1917, the daughter of Maurice Llewellyn and Renie Fay (Curit) Coffin, and attended local schools, graduating from North Yarmouth Academy in 1934. She married her husband, Wallace Edgar Brown Sr. in 1937. He served as deputy secretary of state for many years and predeceased Gerrie in 1988.

Survivors are a daughter, Lillian Dollof and her husband, Ronald, of Waldoboro; a son, Wallace Brown Jr. and his wife, Sharon of Gardiner; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Hathaway and his wife, Ellen, of Cumberland, Wynnie Hathaway and her husband, Thomas Stoup, of Miami, Debora Tanner and her husband, the Rev. Mark Tanner, of Skowhegan, Linda Pease and her husband, Alan, of Warren, Heather Basson and her husband, Jody, of Naylor, Ga., Andrew Dolloff and his wife, Sherry, of Gorham, and Matthew Brown and his wife, Rona, of Gardiner; 16 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Winnifred in 1968; her sisters, Adelaide Thompson and Charlotte Albright; and a baby brother, Maurice Coffin.

Geraldine moved to the Gardiner-Augusta area in 1939. She worked in the State House as a clerk typist for many years. She was a licensed lay preacher of the American Baptist Church and also held a lay preacher's certificate in the United Church of Christ. She held pastorates in South Gardiner, Pittston and Gardiner. For many years, Gerrie had a caring and attentive nursing home Ministry.

She was a 65-year member of the Grange, serving many years as an officer in Yarmouth and Gardiner Granges. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Meenahga Grange in Waldoboro. She also served in the Cumberland and East Kennebec Pomono (County) Granges. In the Maine State Grange, she was a member of the Women's Activities Committee and with her husband, Wallace, established the Grangers Memorial Fund, serving as its first chair person from 1984 to 1988. Geraldine was a member of the Assembly of Demeter of the National Grange.

Gerrie was a great performer, entertainer and artist. She entertained grangers, senior citizens and others in local dramas, minstrel shows, grange meetings and senior citizen gatherings. Her dramatic and humorous monologues will long be remembered. She loved being a clown in many local parades, especially the Yarmouth Clam Festival.

In her later years, Gerrie was a long-time resident at Cape Elizabeth Home in South Portland, Ledgeview, Seaside, Park-Danforth and for the last several months at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Tuttle Road United Methodist Church in Cumberland, with the Rev. Mark Monson Alley officiating.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Tuttle Road Methodist Church, 52 Tuttle Road, Cumberland 04021. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visiting hours.

Arrangements are in the care of Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth.

Dorothy Pearl 'Dot' Adkins

1918-2003

AUGUSTA — Dorothy Pearl "Dot" Adkins, 85, of Augusta, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Graybirch Drive, after a short illness. She was born in Lewiston, Jan. 7, 1918, the daughter of Allie and Gladys (Benjamin) Chaffee. She grew up in Winthrop and attended Winthrop schools.

Dot married Gerald Adkins, Aug. 15, 1936, and together they raised four children. Together she and her husband, "Jerry," owned and operated Jerry's Log Cabin, a well known local restaurant, for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Adkins also enjoyed being a homemaker and loved visiting her children and grandchildren. She also liked writing and reading poetry.

Dot was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; her brother, Lewis Chafee; and her sister, Nellie Howard.

She is survived by her son, Donald Adkins of Coopers Mills; her daughters, Geraldine Frost of Manchester, Sally St. Pierre of Sidney and Penny McCay of Florida; a brother, Harold Chaffee of Winthrop; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way; along with several nieces and nephews.

At Dot's request, there will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Spring burial will be at the Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland 04101;
