Lucas Thom Dolloff

DIXFIELD - Lucas Thom Dolloff, 11, of Dixfield, died as the result of an accident on Oct. 2, 2006 at his home on the Dixfield Common Road.

He was born May 18, 1995, in Rumford, a son of James G. and Heidi Marion (Walton) Dolloff, Jr. He was a 5th Grade Student at the Dixfield Elementary School where he is remembered as always being kind and quick to cheer you up with a joke or a goofy smile.

His family remembers him as being someone who touched all the hearts of those who knew him and was very affectionate. He loved all animals, especially dogs and cats; liked to climb trees and go four-wheeling and enjoyed his mini bike.

He loved adventures in the woods out back behind his family's home and loved going to camp at Concord Pond. He excelled in all sports, was the two-time State Champion in wrestling and played offensive guard and defensive end in football and was an outfielder in baseball.

He is described as a "a good helper" and in the words of his dad, "a picture of contentment, no matter what he did." Lucas loved his family and friends very much and had many happy adventures with his favorite friend and cousin Sabin Lavorgna (family referred to the two of them as "peas and carrots") and longtime neighbors and friends Elliot and Dylan.

He is survived by his parents, whom he loved very much: James and Heidi Dolloff of Dixfield, a brother, Benjamin Dolloff, two sisters, Rebecca Dolloff and Rachel Dolloff, all of Dixfield; his paternal Grammie Janis Dolloff of Dixfield; grandmother, Karen Wolfe of TN; a grandfather, Larry Walton of Bryant Pond; maternal great-grandmother, Audrey Thompson of Rumford; paternal Great-Nanna, Mariette Dolloff of Rumford and Paternal Great-Grammie Carleen Philbrick of Mexico; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Dolloff, who died in Jan. of 1991; grandfather: James G. Dolloff, Sr., and great-grandfathers: Aubrey Thompson, Joseph Philbrick and Chester Dolloff.

Edward (Ed) Friel

NORWAY - Edward (Ed) Friel, 70, of Albany Township, died on Jan. 21, 2007 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 31, 1936 in New York City, NY to Edward and Grace (Malloy) Friel.

Mr. Friel was active in the Boy Scouts, and was a member of the American Legion in both Bethel and Locke Mills. He later transferred to the American Legion in Gorham, NH.

He was a life member of SFO Chapter 72, a member of DAV, VFW and a member of the Bethel Lions Club since June of 1976.

Mr. Friel greatly enjoyed all of his grandchildren, children, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed traveling, reading, Jimmy Buffett, good food, and a strong debate. Ed enjoyed every second of his life to the fullest.

He worked on a dairy farm in upstate New York from age 15 to 17 when he enlisted in the Army. After he did basic training at Fort Dix, he went to Fort Campbell jump school, which is the home to the 101st Airborne, then Special Forces. He served five tours in Vietnam.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gert; three sons, Patrick and his partner, Wanda of Maine, Michael of Colorado, and Louis and his wife, Shealine of Florida; two daughters, Diana Polli and husband, Steve of Maine, and Sandy Sepanek and husband, Jay of New York; three step-children, Orin Sprague and partner, Sara of Maine, Louis Sprague Friel and wife, Dawn of Maine, and Dawn Sprague Friel and her partner, Bob of Maine; grandchildren, Wayne Buck, Jr., Skyler Sepanek, Chuck and Adam Johnson, Sean and Megan Friel, Chelsey and Michael Friel, Jr., Robert and Brook Friel, Tony Drew and Adrianna Friel, Brenden and Meranda Friel; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Joan Ward and her son, Edward Jones Scaro of Maine.

Ed was predeceased by his parents; a son, Robert Friel; and his step-father, Frank Ward.

Floris A. Robin

SO. PARIS - Floris A. Robin, 71, of Hanover died on Oct. 8, 2007 at the Market Square Health Care Center, So. Paris.

She was born in Peru on July 19, 1936, a daughter of Lloyd and Mary (Hoar) Knox. She graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1953 and the University of Maine at Farmington Class 1972 with a degree in Education.

Floris taught school at the Andover and Bethel Elementary Schools and Special Ed until retirement June 2002. She was an active member of the Mexico Congregational Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend to all in need.

She was married in Rumford on Dec. 13, 1958 to Roger Lucien Robin, who survives of Hanover. Other survivors include her son, Michael Robin and fiancée, Celeste Freeman and her daughter, Allison of Gray; a brother, Gary Knox and wife, Sue of Connecticut; a sister, Lois Poole of Texas; a niece, Lisa Sagal and husband, Mikhail and their children, Scarlett and Liam of Rhode Island; a nephew, Christopher Knox of Rhode Island; a nephew, John Poole and wife, Edith and their children, Amelia and Matthew of Texas; and many loving friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and a nephew, Jeff Poole of New York.

Her family would especially like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris. They went "above and beyond" many times for her.

Paul F. Trainor

ANDOVER - Paul F. Trainor, 63, of Pine Street, Andover, died on July 14 , 2007 at the family camp on the Covered Bridge Road.

He was born in Dorchester, MA on August 30, 1943, a son of Michael Andrew and Eleanor (Cavanaugh) Trainor. He had attended schools in Dorchester.

During the Vietnam War, he served as a Lcpl in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964.

For many years, he worked for the Wrentham State School in Wrentham, MA as a Direct Care provider and then owned and operated the Pine Ellis Bed & Breakfast and Hiker Lodge in Andover for many years until retirement in 2006.

Paul was a Communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church in Rumford. The dearest things to his heart were his wife and family, hikers, and his many friends over the years. He also had a deep appreciation of the outdoors and nature.

He was married in Norton, MA on Oct. 1, 1988 to the former Ilene Malouin Roberge, who survives of Andover.

Other survivors include a daughter, Michelle Tavares and husband, A.J of Massachusetts; two step-daughters, Denise and Dorinne Roberge of North Attleboro, MA; two step-sons, Roland Roberge and wife, Katherine of Norton, MA, Greg Roberge of Foxborough, MA; six grandchildren, Christian, Marie, Christiana, and Roland Eric Roberge of Norton, MA, Nicole Roberge of San Diego, CA, and Monique Roberge of North Attleboro, MA; a son-in-law, David Rousselin of Andover; a sister, Mary Mason of Massachusetts; two brothers, Joseph Trainor of Massachusetts, and Gerard Trainor of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Trainor, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Athanasius-St. John Church, Rumford. Interment at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Andover. Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford. Those who desire please contribute to the Andover Fire and Rescue Department, Andover, ME 04216 in his memory.

John F. Richardson Sr.

RUMFORD - John F. Richardson Sr., 75, died on April 29, 2008 at his residence on the East Andover Road.

Born in Rumford on July 3, 1932, he was a son of Merle and Angelina (Fisher) Richardson. He was a graduate of Stephens High School class of 1951. He served in the US Army from 1952 - 1954. He worked for Boise Cascade in the maintenance department until his retirement in 1986.

John was an individual who was proud to be an American. He believed in the backbone of the old American way. He was a believer in hard work, honesty, and frugality. He came from a line of hard working individuals and was quite proud of his heritage.

He took pride in his garden and looked forward to sharing its' produce along with a story or two with friends or strangers who happened to stop by. His patriotism was exemplified by his collection of eagles that he had acquired over the years.

Nothing was without value to John. He knew those who loved him well, and always seemed to find a treasure at a yardsale with someone else in mind. He was a true giver of the heart. John enjoyed chatting with friends and sharing stories from the past.

He always had advice or words of wisdom for any who would listen along with a joke or a prank or both. He was an avid "scrapbooker" keeping up on his grandchildren's schooling events and sporting activities.

He was very much interested in the lives of those he cared for especially Cerese, Sandra and Pea Soup. His home was his place where one was always welcome and one was sure to be given a bit of a history lesson and told a joke or two while visiting.

John embraced people. He was very much a true and loyal friend to many and a deep and saddened loss will be felt by those who knew and loved him. Any who had the gift of his friendship were truly blessed.

John enjoyed Grange Dinners and senior citizens bus tours. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Lester Richardson and his wife, Patty of East Andover; two daughters, Joan of Vermont and Kathy of East Andover; two brothers, Raymond Richardson of New Hampshire and Steve Richardson of Florida; a sister, Marie Jessup of Oregon; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and his daughter-in-law, Nancy Mercier and her husband, Wayne of Rumford.

He was predeceased by a beloved son, John Richardson, Jr.; four brothers, Merle "Scotty" Richardson, Pascal "Buck" Richardson, Roger Richardson and Richard "Dick" Richardson; and two sisters, Emma Viger and Lorraine Vodola.

Helen A. LeMay

DIXFIELD - Helen A. LeMay, 79, died on Sept. 1, 2008 at her residence on Bradley Street, Dixfield.

She was born in Mexico on Nov. 13, 1928, was the daughter of Alex and Priscilla (O'Leary) Arsenault. She had attended Mexico schools.

Helen was a Communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius - St. John Church in Rumford. She enjoyed music and loved her family.

She was married in Mexico in February of 1968 to Leonard H. LeMay, who died on Feb. 3, 1996.

Survivors include her sons, Daniel Hallock and wife, Linda of Dixfield, Richard Hallock and wife, Bernadette of Longview, WA; a sister, Irene Catenaro of Rumford; seven grandchildren, Danny Hallock and wife, Sarah of Mexico, Kevin Hallock and wife, Jenn of Farmington, David Crutchfield and wife, Kathy of Carthage, Len Hallock and wife, Amy of Longview, WA, Donna Pozzi and husband, Michael of Princeton, IL, Zach Hallock and wife, Ashley of Longview, WA, and Rick Degen; 11 great-grandchildren, Deagan, Baby Girl Danny, Zeck, Brody, Taylor, Nic, Lindsy, Austin, Dom, Nick and Kaylee Degen; and many nieces and nephews.

Carl G. (Andy) Anderson

SCARBOROUGH - Carl G. (Andy) Anderson, 88, passed away on December 5, 2008. He was the dedicated and loving husband of Helen (Ward) Anderson since 1944.

He was born in Portland on June 14, 1920, and resided at Ram Island Farm, Cape Elizabeth, until 1941. He attended Cape schools and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School, where his predominant interest was in athletics.

He was an outstanding athlete in both baseball and basketball and was chosen as captain of the basketball team. He also became quite a drummer of the garage band variety, pounding out his big band favorites! Carl then attended Hebron Academy and Northeastern Business College.

He served in the US Army for four years during World War II. He then went on to a 42-year career as an accountant with the Oxford Paper Company and its successors, the Ethyl Corporation and Boise Cascade Paper Co.

In 1959, he was transferred from Portland to Rumford, where he and his wife raised a family. Carl was involved with several service organizations, for many years volunteering as district finance chairman for the Boy Scouts of America, treasurer of the Dollars for Scholars project, and a member of the USCG Power Squadron.

Carl had a keen interest in following sports. He was a long time supporter of high school basketball and in later years he particularly enjoyed watching college basketball, as well as his beloved world champion, the Boston Red Sox.

After retiring in 1982, Carl and his wife took up residence in Scarborough while wintering in St. Augustine, FL. His family summered at Brandy Pond in Naples, and Popham Beach in Phippsburg - or in whatever location the family could all be together cruising on his boat, while lounging, laughing, loving and water skiing!

He is survived by his wife, Helen Anderson of Scarborough; his daughter, Judith Golin and her partner, Brian Voght of Durham; his daughter, Corinne Piper and her husband, Neil of Gorham; and his son, Gary Anderson of Portland, formerly of Denmark. In addition, he leaves five grandchildren: Heather Jackson and her husband, Chris of Bowdoinham, Allison Glessner and her husband, Michael of Portland, Brooke Anderson and Dylan Anderson of Fryeburg, and Scott Golin and his wife, Emily of Boston, as well as three great-granddaughters.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Sigrid Anderson of the country of Sweden and Ram Island Farm; a brother, Henry; a sister, Anna; and son-in-law, Roger Golin.

Robert Edwin Gallant

RUMFORD - Robert Edwin Gallant, 74, passed away after a long illness on January 23, 2009, at his residence on Erchles Street, Rumford, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Rumford on January 4, 1935, a son of Edwin and Florence (Ahearn) Gallant. He attended Rumford schools and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1955.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958, which included a tour in Okinawa with the rank of Sergeant.

He was a mill wright at Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford for 42 years until retirement, and also served as a shop steward for the Local 900 Union.

Bob was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion, and a Life Member of the Rumford Maine Lodge #862, B.P.O.E. He enjoyed carpentry and loved to do building construction at his home and at their camp at Garland Pond. He enjoyed his yearly trip to Old Orchard Beach, spending time with his family, and being with his friends. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.

Bob had 34 years of sobriety and worked with the AA Program. He also counseled and supported people who requested help from him in the program. He had trained for and did part-time counseling with the supportive services at Boise Cascade Paper Company for alcohol abuse and was a member of the Western Regional Council on the state level to establish supportive help.

He was married Sept. 9, 1961 in Mexico to the former Karen Deraspe Gallant, who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include a son, Brian E. Gallant and wife, Lisa of Bath, and their children, Bryanna and Carissa Gallant; two daughters, Gayle Gallant of Rumford Point and her fiancŽ, Dan Hodge, and her son, Jason McPherson of Peru, and Susan Gallant Coulombe and husband, Donald and their daughter, Mariya of South Rumford; a brother, Edwin Gallant and wife, Janice of Portland, and their daughter, Amy Sue Hamilton and husband, Matt and children, Maxwell, Hannah, and Jackson of Brunswick; a sister, Jane Glaser and husband, Wayne of Trinity, FL, and their two sons, Craig and Kurt Glaser of Florida; many cousins, nieces, nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Cheryl Wade.

His family would like to thank the many medical people who helped nurture and medically care for him over the many years, including Maine Medical Center Kidney Transplant Program, Wilton Umbagog Dialysis Center, Medcare Ambulance Service, the Rumford Fire Department, The New England Rehab Hospital of Portland, The River Valley Medical Staff, the Rumford Veterans Clinic, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and to all the many of Bob's physicians and nursing staff that never gave up trying to help him to have a better day through all his surgery recoveries and rehabilitations.
