Bradley W. Touchette

BERLIN, NH - Bradley W. Touchette, 66, of 403 Second Ave., Berlin, NH, passed away on Sept. 4, 2008 at his home. He was born in Rumford, ME on October 11, 1941 and was the son of William and Annie (Hickey) Touchette. He resided in Maine until 1977 when he moved to the area. He had been employed by Maine Drilling and Blasting for 35 years and retired in 2001. He loved his dogs and his work.

Members of the family include his wife, Cora (Tucker) Touchette of Berlin, NH; four children, Tracy L. Herbert of Center Ossipee, NH, Bradley M. Touchette of Berlin, NH, William I. Touchette of Maysville, NC and Dawn M. Touchette of Sebago; 5 grandchildren; two sisters, Beatrice Gill of Peru, and Nancy Patenaude of Peru; two brothers, Ronald Touchette of Roxbury, and Maynard Touchette of Peru; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Ronald L. White Sr.

RUMFORD - Ronald L. White Sr., 48, died on November 17, 2008 at his residence on Waldo Street, Rumford.

He was born March 15, 1960 in Rumford, a son of Robert and Leona (Hodgkins) White. He had attended Mexico schools and Mexico High School and had served with the Maine National Guard.

Ronald had worked as a carpenter for G.L. Hodgkins for several years.

Survivors include his mother Leona White of Rumford; children, Dustin and Christina of Louisiana; three grandchildren; brothers, Robert White, Jr. and wife, Kim of Rumford, Rex White of Rumford, Roger White and wife, Karen of Rumford, Russell White and wife, Amanda of Mexico; sisters, Birdie Rocray and husband, Michael, Becky McDonald and husband, Kevin, and Rose Libby and husband, Rob, all of Rumford.

He was predeceased by a son, Ronald, Jr., and a daughter, Devon.

Melburn F. 'Hutch' Hutchins

SOUTH PARIS - Melburn F. "Hutch" Hutchins, 81, of Hanover, died on December 1, 2008 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, following a long illness.

He was born in Kingfield on December 19, 1926, a son of Emmons and Gelia (Weymouth) Hutchins. Melburn was a graduate of Strong High School Class of 1946.

He was employed for over 25 years with Boise Cascade. Prior to this he was employed with Foster Toothpick Factory, and was also a heavy equipment operator for the rebuilding of Rt. 2 where he met his future wife to be.

Melburn served in the US Army during WWII.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Bible Church in West Bethel and was active in the Awana Youth Group. He was instrumental in designing the race track which was used in many area churches.

Melburn was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a 20-year member of the American Legion Post #24, and a 10-year volunteer with Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

He was a talented woodcrafter and made therapeutic devices and games for rehabilitating patients. Melburn enjoyed his weekly card playing night with his Hanover friends. He also enjoyed his daily trips to McDonalds for coffee with his beloved wife Rose and their mill friends.

Melburn enjoyed beekeeping, farming, hunting, gardening, fishing, cooking and passed on his love of these hobbies to his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a quiet, humble and witty person. No tears just cheers.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the special care given to Melburn by the staff at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rose (Veillette) Hutchins; daughters, Rae Ann Hutchins Luce and husband, Ralph of Strong, Debra Swan and husband, Bruce of Springfield, Olivia Morrell and husband, Donald of Belgrade, Maureen Abbott and husband Tim of Phillips, and Gail Worcester and husband William of Hanover; a sister, Dorothy Curtis and husband, Wayne of Vasselboro; two brothers, Clinton Hutchins and wife, Goudrun of Pownal, VT, and Richard Hutchins of Portland; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Emmonzene Hutchins.

Graveside services will be held at St. John cemetery in the spring. If so desired contributions in his memory may be made to Western Maine Veteran's Advisory Committee 477 High St., South Paris, ME 04281.

Norman Gaudet

MEXICO - Norman E .Gaudet, 76, died on February 6, 2009 peacefully at his residence on the Swift River Road in Mexico with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Rumford on September 26, 1932 and was the son of Elwood and Rena May (Gaudet) McPherson. Norman graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1950. He had worked for Diamond International Corporation in Peru as a mechanic and retired after more than thirty years in 1988.

Norman was a member of the Rumford Falls Aerie # 1248, F.O.E.., Mexico Lions Club, and the Webb River Sportsmen's Club.

He was married in Rumford on September 15, 1962 to the former Susan Day, who survives of Mexico. Other survivors include their children, Mark Gaudet and his companion, Rhonda Gallant of Mexico, Robert Gaudet and wife, Karin of Mexico, Deborah Milligan and husband, Mark of Rumford, Mary Thurston and husband, David, Jr. of Mexico; grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea and Dylan Gaudet of Mexico, Tamarah Sue and Robert Lyle Gaudet of Mexico, Andrea, Brittany, and Travis Milligan of Rumford, Matthew Thurston of Mexico; and a brother, Donald McPherson and wife, Janice of Mexico.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Andrea Lynn Milligan.

Graveside services will be conducted at St. John Cemetery, Rumford in the spring at the family's convenience.

Louise May Wing Vaughn

FARMINGTON - Louise May Wing Vaughn, 73, died on Feb. 28, 2009 at the Sandy River Center for Health Care in Farmington. She resided at the Rumford Community Home, Rumford.

Born in Dixfield on Feb. 2, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Rose Anna (Richard) Wing. She was a graduate of Dixfield High School with the class of 1955.

She loved to play bingo, do crafts and spend time with her family and friends.

She was married in Rumford on May 12, 1956 to the late LaForrest A. "Buddy" Vaughn, who died in Rumford on June 1, 2006.

Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Brown and husband, Robert of Lakeland, FL, Marie Richard and husband, Larry of Rumford, Ericka Ducas and husband, Jason of Bridgton; a son, Allen Vaughn and wife, Joy of Mexico; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Buster Wing and wife, Jessie of Dixfield, George Wing, Sr. of West Peru, Archie Wing and wife, Charlene of West Peru, Alton Wing of Canton; and a sister, Florence Porter and husband, Frank of Dixfield.

She was predeceased by her husband, Buddy Vaughn; two sons, Bruce and David; a granddaughter, August; and three sisters, Margaret, Ruth and Barbara.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the Demerritt cemetery in West Peru.

Harry Jasper Perry

WINSLOW - Harry Jasper Perry, 89, died peacefully April 3, 2009 with family by his side.

He was born Dec. 14, 1919 in Mexico, the son of the late Frieda (Crabtree) Perry and Jasper Perry. Harry was married for 65 years to Betty (Sharlow) Perry.

After graduating from Mexico High School in 1937, Harry joined the Navy and attended flight school at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. He also attended the University of Georgia.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Harry married Betty Sharlow of Livermore Falls. They moved to Rumford where Harry was a leader in the business community, owning and operating the McKenna & Perry Auto Body Shop and the Rumford Wild Animal Park, which became Maine's largest zoo. He also owned a small air field in South Rumford and was a well respected flight instructor and pilot for over 60 years.

Harry was active in the Rumford community; serving as a board member to numerous local organizations. He was a member of the Kora Shriners, Elks Club, Masons, and the Quiet Birdmen of America. He served as chairman of the Maine Aeronautics Committee. His close friends called him "Mr. Bridge of Waterville" as he taught many to enjoy the game of bridge. Harry started a duplicate bridge game at the Muskie Center in Waterville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Perry; and his two daughters, Bonnie-Lou Stone and family of Bangor, Vicki Perry of Winslow; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Sharlow of Winslow. Bampa will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Fletcher Alfred "Rocky" Johnson, and family of Gainesville, VA, Jodi-ann Johnson and family of Scarborough, Hannah Perry of Winslow; and six great-grandchildren.

Harry was predeceased by an infant son, his parents and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at the Winslow Congregational Church, 12 Lithgow St., Winslow, with the Reverend Francis Merritt officiating. Private Interment will be at the Maine Veteran's Memorial cemetery in Augusta. Those who wish to remember Harry in a special way may contribute to the Harry J. Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of Mountain Valley High School, 799 Hancock St., Rumford, ME 04276.

Herbert E. Dunham

GREENWOOD - Herbert Elton Dunham, 78, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather died at his residence on May 27, 2009 with his family by his side.

He was born in Greenwood on July 1, 1930, the son of Rupert C. and Rowena A. (Ring) Dunham and was educated in Locks Mills Schools and graduating from Woodstock High School in 1948.

Herb was active playing baseball in high school and later coaching, having coached three generations of ball players in his family. He joined the U.S. Army in November 2, 1950 and served until December 19, 1951 having served in the 7th CAV REGT and earned the Purple Heart.

Herb had worked for over 40 years at Echo-Tebbetts and Gilbert Manufacturing and had served the town of Greenwood as selectman and tax assessor for 19 years. Herb had lived his entire life in Greenwood with the exception of the time he served his country in Korea.

In his later years, he wrote a book "Pebble on a Faraway Beach" which told of his sad and hellish year as an infantry grunt on the front lines in Korea. He was an avid Red Sox fan, an avid reader and had a complete set of Zane Grey books with the exception of one.

Herb was an honest man who loved animals and his "Beloved Mountain."

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rowena Cummings Dunham of Greenwood; four children, Debra Dunham of Bryant Pond, Brian L. Dunham and his wife, Suzanne of Greenwood, Gary H. Dunham and his wife, Kathleen of Albany, New York and Alan C. Dunham of South Glens Falls, New York; one sister, Elouise Howe and her husband, Eddie of Bryant Pond; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Dunham of Greenwood; step-children, Joseph Hebert and his wife, Pamela of Greenwood, Dolly Olson of Bryant Pond, Crystal Lake and her husband, Albert of Greenwood, Jeannine Wing and her husband, Gary of Bryant Pond, Marilyn Howe and her husband, Charles of Oxford, Theresa Koskela and her husband, Kenneth of West Paris, Paul Hebert and his wife, Kathy of Bethel, Anthony Hebert and his wife, Ruthy of West Paris and Donald Hebert of Greenwood; grandchildren, Jeremy Brian Dunham, Amanda J.M. Dunham and Daniel A.R. Dunham, all of Bryant Pond and Eric M. Berard of Greenwood; 15 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the Jackson-Silver American Legion on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Pastor Lloyd Waterhouse officiating.

Memorials in Herb's memory are suggested to the Greenwood Recreation Dept., P.O. Box 180, Greenwood, ME 04255, to be used for the Dunham Field Fund.

Alfred 'Skip' Ferland Sr.

RUMFORD - Alfred "Skip" Ferland Sr., 92, of Middle Avenue, Mexico, died on July 21, 2009 at the Rumford Hospital.

He was born July 15, 1917 in Mexico, the son of Arthur and Mary (McDonald) Ferland, Sr. and had graduated from Mexico High School.

He purchased and reconstructed the Frosty Delite Ice Cream stand on Main Street in Mexico which he and his wife operated for 20 years. He designed and constructed the ice-cream cone that is operating to this day on the ?new"Frosty Delite.

In his earlier years he was a milkman for Ferland?s Dairy, top salesman for Sears, a member of the N.R.A., served in the Maine National Guard, served in WW II, and was a member of the Mexico Fire Department for 34 years.

He was married Nov. 26, 1938 to the former Dorothy Eva Vaughn, who died in Ocala, FL on December 4, 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Schadlick of Concord, NH, and Laurie Gilbert and husband, Bruce of Falmouth; a son, Alfred ?Butch? Ferland, Jr. of Peru; a brother, Henry ?Squeak? Ferland and wife, Joan of

Winterport; grandchildren, James Schadlick and wife, Gretchen of Phoenix, AZ, Glen Schadlick of Concord, NH, Heather Kierstead and husband, Sterling of So. Portland, Adam Gilbert and wife, Brooke of Steep Falls; and eight great-grandchildren.
