CASTINE - Memorial services for Louise C. Brown, 90, who died March 7, 2004, at Lincoln, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Trinitarian Congregational Parish Church, Main Street, Castine, with the Rev. HALSEY DEAN
CHAPMAN - Halsey Dean, 94, died Friday morning, April 9, 2004, at a healthcare facility in Mars Hill. He was born June 19, 1909, at Chapman, the son of George and Myrtie (Dudley) Dean. He lived in Chapman all his life, liked horses and enjoyed telling and listening to horse stories. Mr. Dean worked as wingman on the snowplow for the state of Maine. He was a member of the Christ Gospel Church in Presque Isle. He is survived by his wife, Mildred B. (Langley) Dean of Chapman; a son, Elwood Dean and his wife, Dorothy, of Poway, Calif.; a daughter, Lois J. Cobb and her husband, John, of Ashland; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle with the Rev. Galen Doody officiating. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Southside Cemetery, Mapleton, later this spring.

ERIC C. DAUB, M.D.
LINCOLN - Eric C. Daub, M.D., 37, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Lincoln. He was born on Feb. 19, 1967, in Escondido, Calif., the son of Jean and Leland Daub. Dr. Daub earned a bachelor of arts in biology at the University of California, in Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1990, where he met his wife, Elisabeth. After graduating from New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y., in 1995, Dr. Daub completed his internship and residency training at Central Washington Family Medicine in Yakima, Wash., in 1998. He served as a staff physician at Mt. Home Air Force Base in Idaho from 1998-2000 and also at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts through 2002, earning the rank of Major. Dr. Daub earned the distinction of Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practioners and was certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Live Support, Neonatal Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support. From July 1, 2002, Dr. Daub served as the chief medical officer for Health Access Network, a federally funded community health center in Lincoln and was the vice president for the Penobscot Valley Hospital Medical Staff. He was actively involved and shared in the development of the primary care, outreach, mental health care, dental health care, and patient support services that now are accessible to all patients in the northern Penobscot County region. Though his absence leaves a great void at the health center, the important work he did to help build a strong foundation for the organization to assure health care to those most in need carries on. His areas of particular interest in his professional role were the development of a quality improvement program, disease management programs, and implementation of electronic medical records. Dr. Daub is survived by his wife, Elisabeth; his daughters, Emily, age 7, and Elyse, age 4; his parents, Jean and Leland Daub; and his three sisters, Karalee Newburg, Kris Winder, and Kimberly Karn. Though known to many as an "MD," he is fondly remembered by his children as "My Daddy," for this is what "MD" meant to them. Dr. Daub shared with his wife and daughters their newfound interest to develop their skills riding their horses. Their most recent accomplishment and cherished memory was for the four of them to ride together at one time. One of Dr. Daub's favorite hobbies was gourmet cooking. He also spent time enjoying nature surrounding his home, kayaking, mountain biking and road biking. Dr. Daub is sadly missed by his family, friends, co-workers and patients. A public visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln. Following a private family graveside service in the morning, a public memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 12, at the Congregational Church on School Street in Lincoln, with the Rev. Carolyn Metzler officiating. Immediately following the service, friends and relatives are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Waterfront in Lincoln. GLORIA J. STROUT
LEWISTON - Gloria J. Strout, 53, of East Avenue, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at her daughters home after a long illness. born March 11, 1951, in Mount Dessert Island, the daughter of Ira and Charlotte (Patterson) Strout. She was a graduate of Mount Dessert High School. She enjoyed tole painting and knitting. Prior to her illness she was employed by Bantan Wood Products. She is survived by her mother of Burnham; a daughter, Tammy Kimball and her fianc‚, Michael Hewett, of Lewiston; a son, Wade and his wife, Nicole Strout, of Bass Harbor; four sisters, Donna Phelps of Englewood, Fla., and Boothbay Harbor, Marcia Damon of Burnham, Beverly and her husband, Brian King, of Burnham, Trudy White of Augusta; four brothers, Clifford Strout of Poland, Eugene and his wife, Roberta Strout, of Bar Harbor, Clayton and his wife, Denise Strout, of Manset, and Arnold and his wife, Sue Strout, of Dixmont; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father; her long time companion, William Felker; one sister, Nancy Dunkel; and one brother, Dennis Strout. Services will be private. Spring Burial will be in Newport, to be announced later in the spring by the family owned Pinette Funeral Homes.
HELEN M. CARSON
BANGOR - Helen Mary Carson, 96, died April 8, 2004, in Bangor with dignity and grace. She was born Jan. 13, 1908, in Bangor, the daughter of William G. and Mary A. (Stone) Carson. Miss Carson was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a member of the Maine Retired Teacher's Association. She taught in the Bangor school system for 44 years. Surviving are four nieces, Helen Cochrane, Margaret McGill, Constance Sprague, Cynthia Coyne; two nephews, William Magee, H. Stanley Carson; four great-nieces, Kelly Cochrane, Christine Bragg, Abigail Bragg, Kathleen Sprague; seven great-nephews, Richard Cochrane, Daniel Carson, Sean, Cory, Robert and Andrew Magee, and Benjamin Sprague; one sister-in-law, Catherine Carson; a close friend, Juanita Corson. She was predeceased by three brothers, William T. Carson, Joseph H. Carson and H. Stanley Carson; and by one sister, Mary M. Magee. The family acknowledges with appreciation the staff of Engel Place at Ross Manor for their friendship and care of Helen. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kevin Holsapple, Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at Brookings-Smith. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., after the service.
JULIE L. WILSON
BREWER - Julie L. Wilson, 35, went to be with her Lord on April 9, 2004, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 6, 1968, in Bangor, the daughter of William and Jennie (Wilson) Roberts. Julie attended Multiple Handicap Center, Bangor and was known at school as "Cookie." She enjoyed listening to music, especially Dean Martin and music from Sesame Street. Surviving are her loving mother, Jennie A. (Wilson) Roberts Gomm and her husband, Alfred Gomm, of Brewer; one brother, William Roberts II of Levant; one sister, Kimberly Roberts of Bangor; many aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be remembered by her caretakers, Pam McCarthy of Holden and Dawn Bisson of Glenburn; and her favorite nurse, Jane Meade of Brewer. She was predeceased by her father, William Roberts; and her grandparents, Edwin and Hazel Wilson. Services will be private. JOHN R. MCNALLY
BRADFORD - John R. McNally, 42, the husband of Veronica (Lord) McNally, died April 7, 2004, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Aug. 20, 1961, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Arnold) McNally. He was an Army veteran of the first Gulf War and had worked as a tractor-trailer driver and instructor. Surviving in addition to his wife of Bradford are three children, Rachel McNally of Manchester, N.H., and Christopher and Dakota McNally of Bradford; his father of Bradford; and his mother, Dorothy Carter and her husband, Bill, of Hampstead, N.Y.; a brother, Brian McNally of Sanford; a sister, Tina Early of Conway, N.H.; three step-children, Drusilla, David and Aimee Bernard, all of Bradford. A graveside funeral and military committal service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Williams Cemetery
in Bradford with the Rev. Donald Booker officiating. Arrangements are by the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth.

WOODLAND - Vernon K. Skidgel, 71, died April 8, 2004, at Caribou. He was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Woodland, the son of Jerry and Carrie (Libby) Skidgel. Private family funeral services will be held at the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery.
ROXIE G. SLATER
CALAIS - Roxie G. Slater, 77, of Calais died April 8, 2004, at a Calais hospital. She was born April 21, 1926, in Milton, Nova Scotia, daughter of Edwin and Sophia (Fraelic) Hartlen. Roxie was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert "Bert" Slater; five brothers; and four sisters. Surviving are three sons, Ronald Slater and his wife, Barbara Larsson, of Smithfield, Andrew Slater and his wife, Bonny, of Calais, and Allan Slater and his wife, Wendy, of Calais; a daughter, Lynn MacIntosh and her husband, Tom, of Economy, Nova Scotia; three sisters, Marguerite Bush and her husband, Derek, of Lady Lake, Fla., Amy Simpson of Brookfield, Nova Scotia, and Dorothy Freeman and her husband, Russell, of Milton, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Dana, Jessie, Tony and Chris; and the daughters of Bonny Slater, Andrea McClanaghan and Angela Harrington and their families; many nieces and nephews. SOUTH THOMASTON Colonel Edward Bradlee Sleeper, USAF, Retired, 67, decorated Viet-nam Veteran and recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, husband of Astri T. Sleeper, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after being diagnosed with Leukemia less than two weeks ago. Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 12, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock St., Rockland. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Village Cemetery, South Thomaston. CALAIS - Herman (Milton) Thornton, 83, died April 8, 2004, at a Calais hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Scotch Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada
, the son of Herman and Mary (McLeod) Thornton. He was a World War II Royal Canadian Air Force Veteran. Milton attended St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Calais. He was a member of the St. Croix Lodge No. 46 AF & AM of Calais and the International Square Dance Club. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Harold Thornton; two sisters, Emma Sullivan and Mary Tucker. Surviving are his wife, Thelma (Ross) Thornton of Calais; two sons, Milton Thornton and his wife, Jill, of Baring, Garry Thornton and his wife, Carole, of Lubbock, Texas; one daughter, Barbara Lara and her husband, Jose, of Calais; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Spring graveside services will be in the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating.
