Emile A. Lacroix

AUBURN - Emile A. Lacroix, 85, passed away after a long illness battling cancer on May 4, 2009.

He was born on June 10, 1923, in Lac Drolet, Providence de Quebec, Canada.

On February 1, 1954, married Rolande Guay. They resided in Waterbury, CT for a period of time and relocated to the Rumford area. In Rumford, Emile made a living as a woodsman. His passion was working in the woods. He loved his work so much that he retired at the age of 76.

They relocated to Lisbon and then to Sabattus to be close to his grandchildren and sons and daughter. He loved his family and enjoyed them very much.

Emile had a great love for nature and respected all living things. His hobbies included gardening, reading, travel, making his daily trips to Tim Horton's to have coffee with a group that he had befriended over a period of time. He really enjoyed people and making new friends.

He believed that one should leave a place a little better than when one found it. He lived his life in gratefulness and in appreciation of others and for things that others did for him.

He leaves behind his beloved spouse of 55 years, Rolande Guay Lacroix; his children, James P. and Suzanne M. Lacroix Garneau, Richard J. Lacroix, Luke J. Lacroix; two wonderful grandchildren, Eric P. Garneau and Jennifer L. Garneau; and two remaining sisters, Marie-Paul Lacroix of Victoriaville, PQ Canada and Clemence Lacroix of Quebec City, PQ Canada.

He is predeceased by a son, Paul G. Lacroix, who passed away in May 1988; his brothers, Jean-Louis Lacroix, Jules Lacroix, Rene Lacroix; and sisters, Lucie Lacroix and Annette Eyman Lacroix; and his parents, Albert and Jeanne Lacroix

The family would like to extend their appreciation to doctors and nurses of Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, the doctor and nursing staff of Marshwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Lewiston and Dr. Austin and the nursing staff of the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Your tenderness, respect and dignity as you cared for him was amazing and was very much appreciated by him and his loved ones.

Elizabeth Jane (Spring) Andexler

LEWISTON -- Elizabeth Jane (Spring) Andexler, 53, of Andover passed away on May 19, 2011 in Lewiston after losing her battle with lung cancer.

She was born in Hartford, CT on January 12, 1958, the daughter of Joseph N. and Elizabeth (Griggs) Spring Sr. She graduated from Concord Carlisle High School in 1976.

She was a proud, loving, stay at home mom to her three children and an excellent wife to her husband. She also cared for her parents at their home in Scarborough during their declining years, visiting her dad daily to feed him lunch during his stay at the veterans home.

She attended the Apostolic Church of Rumford and was baptized in Jesus Name on July 1996 in the Swift River by her pastor David Willhoite.

She lovingly spent hours crafting bird houses, as well as painting pictures of animals, birds and flowers on flower pots in which she gave away as treasured gifts. She enjoyed spending the summer months by her pool with her Ya-Ya friends Helen, Terry, Bibbi, Sandy, Michelle, Brenda and Opie (her puppy dog).

She enjoyed spending her summer evenings at the coast listening to the beach surf from the wrap around porch of her parent’s retirement home on Prouts Neck with Cathy and Mike. She delighted in winning a good game of backgammon against her good friend, Greek, and playing cards with her childhood friend, Steve.

She loved opening her home and hosting for friends far and wide like Bob from Concord, MA, Missy from Scarborough, Marla from Bedford, MA, and Amy from Manchester, NH. She treasured the time she spent with her dad at the Sudbury Inn owned by her lifelong friend, Scott.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Paul Andexler of Andover; her children, Thomas E. Andexler of Andover, Steven B. Andexler of Andover, who is currently working in Afghanistan, and Michelle E. Pulk (Andexler) of Carthage; siblings, Joseph Spring, Jr. of Boxboro, MA, Margie Ray of Ashby, MA, Wilbur Spring of Kensington, CT and John Spring of Buxton.

We are forever indebted and thankful to staff of the Lewiston CMMC especially the ICU staff for taking very special care of Betty during her two and a half month stay. One of the highlights of her stay was allowing her daughter and fiancée to be wed in her hospital room. We arrived as strangers and left as part of a family.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Apostolic Church of Rumford, 135 South Rumford Rd., Rumford at 1 p.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to the Arbor House and sent to Central Maine Medical Center, Jeri Maurer, Guest Relations, 300 Main St, Lewiston, ME 04240, or Tupelo Children’s Mansion, P.O.
