Mary K. Beauchesne

RUMFORD -- A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Mary K. Beauchesne was celebrated on December 22, 2012 at Parish of the Holy Savior.

Fr. Robert Vaillancourt was the celebrant. Nick Puiia was the altar server. Mark Belanger was the organist.

Music selections were Ave Maria, Amazing Grace, On Eagles Wings and Fly Like A Bird. The Old Testament was proclaimed by granddaughter, Jennifer Vella. The New Testament was proclaimed by daughter, Paula Charette. The Prayer of the Faithful was offered by daughter, Teri Cote. Offertory Gifts were presented by granddaughters, Sera Charette and Melissa Goyette.

Pallbearers were grandchildren John Beauchesne, Jesse Charette, Steve Gerdner, Steve Roy, and honorary pallbearer was Ken Roy.

A reception served by the Daughters of Isabella was in the parish hall.

Services were under the care and guidance of SG Thibault Funeral Home, Rumford.

Sara Ann Lee

MEXICO -- Sara Ann Lee, 58, died on February 18, 2013 at her residence on Highland Terrace in Mexico.

Born in Rumford on September 17, 1954, she was a daughter of William and Eleanor (Applegate) Gaudin. She was a graduate of Stephens High School.

She was a volunteer for River Valley Animal Advocacy.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Lee of Mexico, and Nicole Lee and her companion, Bill Gurley of Rumford; two grandchildren, Autumn Marie Pollis and Joshua Ryan Pollis II of Rumford; and a sister, Elizabeth True of Rumford.

Funeral services will be held at the family’s convenience.

Faye Swygert

MCDONOUGH, GA -- Faye Swygert, 78, of McDonough , GA died on January 3, 2013.

She was born in Rumford, one of seven children to the late Alvin Arthur and Sadie Boyle Zinck.

Mrs. Swygert is survived by her husband, Hope Allen Swygert, McDonough , GA; children, Mark (Brenda) Swygert, Silverdale, WA, Cindy (Fred) Carter, McDonough, GA and David (Ashley) Swygert, McDonough , GA; brother, Henry (Mary Lou) Zinck, Rumford; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lilly-Ann Jane Hodgkiss

LEWISTON -- Lilly-Ann Jane Hodgkiss, infant daughter of Nicole Downs and John Hodgkiss II of Lewiston, was stillborn at 2:44 a.m. on December 25, 2012 at Central Maine Medical Center.

Lilly-Ann weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

Though she never spent any time with us, she touched many of our lives.

Survivors include her parents; Aunties Courtney Downs, Georgia Piawlock, Ryleigh and Dannika Taylor; Uncle Johnathan Gallant; Maternal Grandparents Heather Downs and Matthew Taylor; Paternal Grandparents Teresa and John Hodgkiss I; Maternal Great-Grandparents Barbara and Rick Gallant; Paternal Great-Grandmother Nancy Reynolds; Maternal Great-Great Grandpa Aime Fournier; Paternal Great-Great Grandmother Theresa Pelletier; and the many aunts, uncles and cousins of Nicole and John.

Lilly-Ann was predeceased by her Great-Great Grandmother Marylou Fournier.

Elijah "Scratcher" White, Jr.

WINDHAM -- Elijah "Scratcher" White, Jr., 77, of Windham, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on January 11, 2013.

He was born on Sept 1, 1935 in Mexico, a son of Helen and Elijah “Tiger” White Sr. Elijah grew up in Carthage.

Carrying on the White tradition set by his dad and uncles, Elijah spent his life as a fourth generation logger and small business man. He began at age 8 peeling fir trees for 10 cents a tree and in his teens he worked in the Carthage Sawmill and for Frank Rossi cutting trees. At age 16 he joined the Army National Guard and at 17 he joined the Air Force for four years, where he learned to be a mechanic.

When his brother Wayne returned home from the Army, they started a logging company, E&W White. Elijah finished his logging career last year working alongside his son, Lance White, in their company E&L Logging. Elijah was inducted into the Loggers Hall Of Fame in Rangeley on July 29, 2011.

He enjoyed spending time with family and watching sports, and what he enjoyed most recently was traveling the country with his love, Sue Cousens, playing in poker and cribbage tournaments. He earned a Masters Award in the American Cribbage Congress in 2010. He survived many life threatening injuries like rabies (first to use penicillin in Rumford), gunshot ( hunting accident), broken neck and back (logging accident), and salmonella (medical mystery).

Elijah is survived by his Love, Sue Cousens of Windham; his siblings, Wayne White and wife, Emmy, Gloria Ellis and husband, Ron, and Ronnie White of Carthage, Meredith Robbins and husband, Randy of Dixfield, Doreen Smith and her husband, Dean of Tennessee; his children, Jo Spielvogel and husband, Stephen of Virginia, Laurie McCabe and husband, Dennis of California, Rosemary Deckard and husband, Brian of Kentucky, Lance White and wife, Tess of Dixfield; his stepchildren, Gloria Wilkins of Wilton, Michael Rice of East Dixfield and Gena Flagg of Farmington; and his 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Elijah was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Marie Conant of Waterville; his children, Elijah White III and Ladonna White; and his stepchildren, Terry Rice and Ricky Rice.

Public memorial services will be held at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld St., Dixfield at 11 a.m. on Friday with Rev. Eva Thompson officiating. Interment will be in the spring at the Newman cemetery in Carthage. The family suggests that those who desire consider memorial gift’s in Elijah’s memory to the Rangeley Logging Museum, PO Box 154, Rangeley, ME 04970.

Ronald J. Roy

LEWISTON -– Ronald J. Roy, 80, of Rumford passed away on January 11, 2013 at C.M.M.C. following a brief illness with his loving family by his side.

Ron was born in Rumford on Dec. 24, 1932 the son of Aurele and Lucy (Richard) Roy.

After graduating from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1952, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Berlin, Germany from 1953 to 1955, being discharged with a rank or Corporal. After returning from his military service, he married his high school sweetheart, Anna Robichaud, in Rumford on June 25, 1955.

He worked for H.P. Hood & Son until he and his wife purchased the Mexico Laundromat & Dry Cleaning in 1976, which they owned and operated until 2000.

Ron was a 30-year member of the Mexico Lions Club, a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion, LeParesseux Snowshoe Club, Rumford Falls Aerie #1248, F.O.E., and a volunteer with the Chisholm Ski Club. He was currently serving as the Chaplain and secretary of the Robert Shand Post #1641, V.F.W.

He enjoyed watching his beloved Red Sox and New England Patriots. He also enjoyed hunting camp with his brothers, bowling, fishing with his grandson, bluegrass festivals with friends and spending time with his family.

He was known for his outgoing personality, sense of humor and everyone looked forward to his jokes. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 ½ years of Rumford; his daughters, Cindy Gallant and husband, Mike of Roxbury, Sharon Sleis and husband, Bob of Northwood, NH, Karen Merrill and husband, Richard of Fairbanks, AK; his son, Timothy Roy and companion, Lacey Barcelou of Greene; grandchildren, Amy and Mike Gallant, Nicole Allen, and Kyleigh Roy; a great-granddaughter, Aliya Allen; his brothers, Richard Roy and wife, Joan of Payson, AZ, Leonard Roy of Rumford, Jim Roy and wife, Vivian of Dixfield, Jay Roy and wife, Tammy of Belton, TX; a sister, Barbara Doherty of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Ernest Roy of Lewiston.

Interment in the spring with Military Honors will be conducted at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. Friends are invited to contribute to The Arbor House, 300 Main St., Lewiston, ME 04240 in his memory.

Angelo P. Cocca

RUMFORD -- Angelo P. Cocca, 92, of Rumford, died on January 8, 2013 at the Rumford Hospital.

He was born in Rumford on July 29, 1920, the son of Marco and Cecelia (Filarmonica) Cocca. He had attended schools in Rumford.

During World War II he served as a PFC U.S. Army, Battery B 410th Artillery Battalion including the European African Middle Eastern Theater.

He was a mill worker for over 40 years and retired as a floor truck operator in 1982 from Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford.

He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius – St. John Church, a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion, Robert Shand Post #1641, VFW, and Gorizia Lodge #467, Sons of Italy.

He was married in Rumford on June 17, 1944 to Rita A Doirion, who died May 16, 1999 in Rumford.

Survivors include sons Peter Cocca and wife, Kim of Rumford, and David Cocca and wife Terry of Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren, Jesse Cocca of Rumford, Paul Sullivan of Portland, Jennifer and Angela Cocca of Lawrenceville, GA; great-grandchildren, Taylor Pelletier of Rumford, Tyler Cocca of Lawrenceville, GA, and Evan Breau of Rumford.

He was predeceased by his sister, Dora DeSalle; and three brothers, Jimmy Cook, Tony Cook and Michael Cocca.

A special thank you to the Rumford Hospital ER Staff and the Victorian Villa for their excellent care of Angelo.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted at noon on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, (Old Cemetery), Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Those who desire please contribute to the Victorian Villa, 26 Pleasant St., Canton, ME 04221 in his memory.

Harland G. Brown "H.B."

SECTION, AL -- Harland G. Brown "H.B." of Section, AL, formerly of Peru, died on Dec. 16, 2012.

He was born Sept. 20, 1950 in Rumford, the son of Roger and Laura Brown. He grew up in Peru with two sisters and two brothers.

Harland joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969. He was a member of Kilo Battery Fourth BW 11 Marine, Ross Combat Base RVN (Vietnam). He was honorably discharged in 1971. It was while stationed in Vietnam that he contacted "Agent Orange." His death was due to complications from this.

Over the early years, "H.B." worked at various body shops in the Mexico and Rumford areas. He also spent numerous winters in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area. He finally settled in Section, AL around 1998 with friends living in that area. He built a home and workshop to continue his passion "Wild Ride Customs."

Harland was well-known all along the east coast for his radical custom vans and cars. His first car after his discharge was a 1967 Mustang Fastback, followed by "Poison Ivy," a 1964 Impala lifted with a yellow and green paint scheme. He also did up a 1966 Chevy van with a painted desert scene and era correct "Keep On Truckin" painted on the rear. Next was a 1964 custom Corvair van.

Next came his most radical van "The Pink Vanther." He spent hundreds of hours shortening, wedging and fully customizing the complete van. Once again his famous "Jacked to the Heaven" look. You almost needed a ladder to get into it. This was featured in "Truckin" Magazine. Next was a 1964 Ford econaline van/pick-up. This was fully custom and painted green. It was appropriately named "Van Kermit." After that was a 1959 Chevy El Camino.

Harland's last radical van was a jacked-up four-wheel drive 1966 Chevy van. Because of his Marine background and his illness, he contacted in Vietnam, "H.B." named his "Agent Orange." Again, this was tricked out with murals, custom interios and wild orange paint scheme. His final custom was a 1932 Ford coupe, bright blue. His final days were spent finishing this.

Harland is survived by a son, Brandon Gorham of Massachusetts; his brother, Robert Brown and his wife, Brenda of Peru; his brother, David Brown of Rumford; sisters, Joyce Berry of Phillips, and Lois Brown and partner, Greg of Rumford; nephew, Dan Brown of Peru; and a niece, Lisa Adams of Phillips.

He was predeceased by his parents, Roger and Laura Brown; and nephews, Jason D. Brown and Eric Berry.

The family also thanks his friends in Section, AL who were there over the years and kept a close watch on him.

There will be a graveside ceremony with full military honors in the spring. A date will be announced later.

Donald Hodsdon

MEXICO -- Donald Hodsdon, 46, of Mexico died unexpectedly at his home on January 9, 2013. He was a resident of Mexico Avenue.

Born in Rumford on June 8, 1966, he was the eldest son of Roscoe and Lorrie (Jones) Hodsdon. He attended schools around the globe, graduating from Plattsmouth High School, Nebraska in 1984, later graduating from New Hampshire Trucking Academy.

He worked over 20 years for various long-haul trucking companies including Aulenbach Trucking. Donald touched the lives of many in the local community as an oil delivery driver for CN Brown and was also a volunteer firefighter for the town of Mexico. He loved coaching youth baseball, basketball and floor hockey.

Donald was married in Lewiston on June 6, 1992 to Karen Trepanier, who survives of Mexico. Other survivors include his three children, Heather of Rumford, Eric and Zachary of Mexico; his parents, Ross and Lorrie of Roxbury; his mother-in-law, Doris Trepanier and sister-in-law Rebekka Trepanier of Lewiston; three brothers, Archie and his wife, Amy, Roy and his wife, Renee, and Ray, all of Roxbury; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Paul J. Davis

RUMFORD -- Paul J. Davis, 77, died on January 7, 2013 at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Cumberland Street in Rumford.

Born in Portland on July 16, 1935, he was a son of Frank Paul and Christine (Jordan) Davis. He was a graduate of Rangeley High School and served in the United States Air Force.

He worked for Ripley and Fletcher and Fontaine’s as an oil delivery driver. He was a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion.

He was married in Rumford on February 23, 1957 to Shirley M. Glover, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include three daughters, Susan Dugas and companion, Herb Hamilton of Lisbon Falls, Wendy Poole and husband, Robert of New Hampton, NH, and Katherine Williams and husband, Andy of Sabattus; two sons, Matthew Davis and his wife, Lisa of Belmont, NH, and Randall

Davis and his companion, Betty Webb of Rumford; four granddaughters and three great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by a son, James Michael Davis.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Greenwood cemetery in Dixfield.

Sheldon Campbell

SOUTH PARIS -- Sheldon Campbell, 87, of Canton, died on Feb. 17, 2013 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in South Paris.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1925, in Canton, a son of, Ralph E. and Maude (Cummings) Campbell Sr. He attended Canton schools.

Sheldon enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Mar. 28, 1944 and served until June 14, 1946. He was sent from New York on a yard craft barge that traveled throughout the Panama Canal, on to Pearl Harbor, the Philippines and Guam. He was the last remaining officer that served on that craft.

After returning home and starting a family, he returned to active duty with the Seabees in 1968, leaving his wife and seven children to serve his country again for a year. Throughout his life he always stood for those who served and was extremely proud of his own service record. A true military person at heart, he never forgot those that went before him.

He grew up on a farm with eight siblings, knowing what hard work was from a young age, having to take care of livestock before and after school. In adulthood, he maintained a love for farming in his spare time. He loved to hay on his McCormick Deering tractor and later with his John Deeres. He continued raising livestock over the years. He loved to attend animal and farm equipment auctions.

Sheldon worked at Oxford Paper Company in maintenance, retiring after 41 years.

Some of his favorite moments were the Sundays he and his wife would take off on unknown adventures ending up on a farm somewhere to visit. Other favorite times were watching his children with their horses and ponies. He also enjoyed family celebrations and holidays.

He is survived by his wife, Norma J. (Davis) Campbell of Canton, whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage to on Oct. 18, 2012; his children, Sheryl Campbell and Peter Hines of Bowdoinham, Marcia (Campbell) Cummings and her husband, Rick of South Paris, Maria Amero of Turner, Jacalyn Whittemore of CT and Cindy Holland of Canton; son-in-law, Mark Blanchette of Canton; brother, Neil Campbell of Canton; sister, Annie Chamberlain of Worcester, MA; grandchildren, Steven Campbell, David Hutchins, Marc-Eric and Matthew Amero, Jason Holland, Dawn Daigle, Darcy Holland, Scotty and Ashley Whittemore, Amber and Amanda Evans, Shandi Averill, Briann and Samantha Blanchette; great-grandchildren, Dominique and Kelsey Hutchins, Cameron Amero, Aubury and Colton Daigle, Tristen Whittemore, Connor, Gracie, Colby and Madelyn Averill.

He was predeceased by two children, Cheri Blanchette and Sherwood Campbell; a granddaughter, Sarah Bragg; and siblings, Eleanor, Marguerite, Polly, Ralph, Frank and Carlton.

Memorial services with military honors will be held at noon on April 5, 2013 in the chapel at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
