Fred E. Whittemore

DIXFIELD -- Graveside services with military honors for Fred E. Whittemore, who died on December 21, 2011, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday (his 89th birthday) at the Riverside cemetery in Dixfield (at the intersection of Canton Point Road and Rt. 2).

Friendship will follow at the American Legion Hall in Dixfield.

Franklin G. Bean

RUMFORD -- Funeral services for Franklin G. Bean of Rumford were conducted on February 27, 2012 at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Edward Gammon officiating.

Music selections were How Great Thou Art, The Old Rugged Cross, and His Eye is on the Sparrow.

Words of remembrance were given by his sons, Laird and Andrew Bean.

Laurent F.J. Boulanger Sr.

TEKOA, WA -- Laurent F.J. Boulanger Sr., 69, of Tekoa, WA, formerly of Meredith, NH, passed away on April 8, 2012 of heart failure. He had been a patient of the Tekoa Care Center for the past seven years.

He was born in Rumford on June 30, 1942, the son of the late Louis L. and Leah M. (Grimard) Boulanger. He attended St. John Catholic School and Stephens High School in Rumford.

While living in Maine, he was employed as a butcher. He later moved to Meredith, NH, where he worked as a machinist for Lewis & Saunders of Laconia, NH, later relocating to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, continuing as a machinist. In 1995, he suffered a heart attack and became disabled, then relocated to the Seattle, WA area and moved to the Tekoa Care Center.

Larry was an avid sportsman as he loved to hunt, fish, camp and snowmobile. He always loved and enjoyed time spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his seven children, Lisa Boulanger of New Hampton, NH, Laurent Boulanger, Jr. of Denton, TX, Linda Seaman of Spokane Valley, WA, Leanne Reruink of Madison, SD, Stephen Boulanger of Dover, DE, Jennifer Monty of New Hampton, and Heather Boulanger of New Hampton; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his brothers, Edward (Susan Brant) Boulanger of Claremont, NC, Jacques Boulanger of Rumford and Dennis (Lucienne "Cookie") Boulanger of Meredith; his sisters, Jeanine Hall of Rumford, Denise (Clayton) Libby of Dixfield; a brother-in-law, James Parisi Sr. of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gerard Boulanger, and his sister, Phyllis Parisi.

Harry Lewis Francis

AUBURN -- Harry Lewis Francis, 96, a recent recipient of the Boston Post Cane for Dixfield, died on Apr. 30, 2012, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born on Dec. 23, 1915, in Otisfield, a son of Elroy Boardman and Hazel (Briggs) Francis. He was educated in Dixfield schools and went on to take business courses at LaSalle Classical Institute.

In 1939, he married Ruth Wright Jacobs. She died in 1995. They made their home in Dixfield where he worked as a manufacturing supervisor for Stowell MacGregor from 1938-60.

He later worked at Forster Manufacturing in Stratton as the vice president and general manager and also at Banton Brothers in Newport as general manager.

During the interim, he owned and operated Francis Market in Dixfield from 1967-73. He returned to Stowell MacGregor in 1970 as a sales manager, retiring in 1981.

Harry was a life member of the Sugarloaf Grange and was active over the years in the Dixfield Historical Society, Dixfield Fire Department, the local Lions Club, was a Dixfield Library Trustee and involved in the Dixfield Planning Board. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing and the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his companion of six years, Genella Wright Deberri of Dixfield; his children, Llewellyn Keith Francis and his wife, Helen of Searsport, George

Louie Jacobs and his wife, Patricia “Pat” of Greene and Joyce Jacobs Andrews of Portland; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; siblings, Quimby Francis of Mechanic Falls, Florence “Skeet” Wright of North Jay and Christine Hoffman of Hartford, CT.

He was predeceased by a companion, Margo Cunningham; grandchildren, Matthew Lanpher and Lynne Giles; and siblings, Alice Whittemore, Harland, Omar and Bernice Francis.

Betty Gallant Frankle

RUMFORD -- Gravesides services for Betty Gallant Frankle will be held at noon Saturday at St. John's Cemetery, with Fr. Philip Tracy officiating.

She was born and raised in Mexico, and passed away on Dec. 6, 2011 at her home in Bangor.

Therese M. LeBlanc

RUMFORD -- Therese M. LeBlanc, maiden name Dupuis, will have a funeral service at noon Friday at the Holy Savior Catholic Church.

After the service, there will be a gathering in the church hall.

All her children -- Vivian LeBlanc, Jean LeBlanc, Louise LeBlanc, Francine Bernard and Paul LeBlanc -- will be present for the services.

Therese was preceeded in death by her loving husband, Florent "Flungo" LeBlanc, on July, 2009.

Patricia E. “Patty” Thibodeau

RUMFORD -- A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Patricia E. “Patty” Thibodeau was celebrated on January 31, 2012 at Parish of the Holy Savior.

Fr. Philip Tracy was the celebrant. George Gionet was the altar server. Mark Belanger was the organist.

Music selections were Hosea, Like a Child Rests, We Will Rise Again, Fly Like a Bird. Readings were proclaimed by Barbara Doherty. A poem entitled “To Those I Love” was read daughter Sheryl O’Leary.

Pallbearers were Michael LaPointe, Nathan Billings, Jamie O’Leary, Jerry Hamel, Paul Hamel and Richard White.

A reception followed at the Eagles club.

Spring Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.

Services were under the care and guidance of SG Thibault Funeral Home, Rumford.

Albert M. Wells

AUBURN -- Albert M. Wells, 93, of Dixfield, died May 4, 2012 at the Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born in Rochester, NH on January 5, 1919, the son of Arthur and Anna (Miller) Wells. He graduated from Rochester High School and from the Philadelphia Textile School.

Albert began working as a Boss dryer in textile mills but eventually switched to working at the Chisholm Paper Mill and then at International Paper Mill as a supervisor in the Coating Prep Department until retirement in the early 1980’s.

Albert and his wife resided in Readfield for many years and upon retirement did extensive traveling and then moved to Florida for over 30 years. They had recently moved to Dixfield to reside with their daughter Susan Holmes.

He was married in Dalton, MA to the former Frances Rose Conahan for over 69 years. Survivors include his wife of Dixfield, ME; daughters Susan Holmes and husband Jon of Dixfield, Linda Dudley and husband Dani of Albany, NY; Grandchildren Scott Holmes and wife Jennifer of Dixfield, Julie Dickson and husband Chris of Rumford, Luke Weber and wife Stacey of Cleveland, OH, Laura Maxium and husband Eric of Cleveland, OH, Nell DeAlmeida and husband Joleo of Brazil, Morgan Dudley and Breanne Lipper and husband David of Altamont, NY; Great Grandchildren Jordan, Benjamin, Calob, and Samuel Holmes of Dixfield, Taylor Dickson of Rumford, Ethan, Emma and Sophie Weber of Cleveland, OH, Macau DeAlmeida of Brazil; and was predeceased by his parents and a daughter Carol Weber.

Foster S. Horne

NORWAY –- Foster S. Horne, 72, died on April 7, 2012 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. He was a resident of Lovejoy Hill Road in Peru.

Born in Rumford on Jan. 6, 1940, he was a son of Edmund and Dorothy (Foster) Horne. He graduated from Mexico High School class of 1959.

He worked for Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Rumford on the paper machines. Foster was a 50 year member of King Hiram Lodge and was also a member of the Kora Temple Shrine.

He was married in Newry on Oct. 13, 1990 to Mabel E. Jamison, who died in Dixfield on May 1, 2010.

Survivors include a daughter, Terry Hathaway and her husband, Mark of Attleboro, MA; a son, Ralph Horne and his wife, Barbara; the mother of his children, Brenda Swan of Dixfield; a son-in-law, Rodney Farrar of Dixfield; a sister, Betsy Waleik and husband, Dan of Peru; step-daughters, Kaye Abbott and husband, Donald of Dixfield, Karen Ruprecht and husband, Albert of Wilton, and Debby Wentworth of Dixfield; two step-sons, Keith Virgin and wife, Denise of Hartford, Robert Bernard and wife, Tish of Peru; a sister-in-law, Gloria Donahue of Peru; and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Naomi Jean Farrar; his parents; and his wife, Mabel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Peru United Baptist Church on Main Street. Interment later in the spring in the Greenwood Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute to the Farrar Children Fund, c/o Franklin Savings Bank, 155 Congress St., Rumford, ME 04276 in his memory.

Jerome (Jerry) Charles Kaul

BREWER/ORRINGTON -- Jerry C. Kaul, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family April 7, 2012 after a 47-year battle with type I diabetes. He was born July 18, 1935 in Rumford, son of Julia (Beeaker) and Charles (Kaulakis) Kaul. He graduated Stephens High School and entered the United States Air Force.

He served as Captain in the 71st SAC. He piloted a KC97G air refueling tanker. It was the dream of his life! He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. As a civilian, he graduated UMO with a BS in business administration and retired after 28 years with GTE.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, Papa and friend. He enjoyed family, planes, travel, fishing, hunting, Lithuanian heritage, community service with Lion's Club, pranks, jokes, and lots of laughter.

Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Vivian (Nelson) of Orrington; two sons, Richard J Kaul and wife, Sue of Millinocket, and Michael C. Kaul and wife Lynn, of Manchester, NH; daughter, Lynne Kaul Cox and husband, Dan of Orrington; grandsons, Richard II and Cory Kaul, DJ Cox, and Benjamin Kaul (USMC); one granddaughter, Mikayla Kaul; sisters, Patricia Hopkins of Rumford and Barbara Buxton and husband, Rick of Orwell, VT; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends across the country.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents; sister, Mary Ann; and grandson, Ryan.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at S.G. Thibault Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Monday, May 7 at Parish of the Holy Savior. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in Jerry’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 169 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101.

Joan G. (Gaudet) Lacroix

HAVERILL, MA -- Joan G. (Gaudet) Lacroix, 77, of Lawrence, MA, died on April 8, 2012 at the Penacook Place Nursing Home, Haverhill.

She was born in Rumford on July 7, 1934, daughter of the late Peter and Madeline (Poirier) Gaudet. Educated in the Maine school system, Mrs. Lacroix moved to Lawrence in the mid 1950’s.

She was employed at the former Western Electric/AT&T, Malden Mills and Textron. Mrs. Lacroix enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and knitting.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Haigh of Methuen, MA, Anna Lepine and husband, Richard of Kingston, NH, and Cheryl Wright of Florida; a son, Robert Lacroix of Haverhill; a brother, Raymond Gaudet of Dixfield; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Lacroix, who died in 1995, mother of the late Louis Lacroix, who died in 1979, and Kathleen Bolduc, who died in 2005, and mother-in-law of the late John Wright, who died in 2011.

Joel Lincoln

ANDOVER -- Joel Lincoln, 25, died on April 9, 2012 at his residence in Andover after a life long battle with Muscular Dystrophy.

Born in Worcester, MA on August 28, 1986, he was a son of David and Robin (McFall) Lincoln. He was a graduate of Telstar High School Class of 2005.

Survivors include his parents, David and Robin Lincoln of Andover, two sisters, Heather Lincoln of Andover and Janelle Thuotte of Maine; a brother, Evan Lincoln and his fiance, Amber of Lewiston; Paternal grandfather, Robert Lincoln and wife, Betty of Manchester, CT; paternal grandmother, Marilyn Cartwright and husband, Eddie of Pawtucket, RI; maternal grandmother, Gail Colmer of Ft. Myers, FL; and a niece, Makenzy Lincoln of Lewiston.

M. Gwendolyn Moore

REGION -- M. Gwendolyn Moore, 87, passed away on April 11, 2012.

She was born on August 20, 1924 to Ozro and Minnie Parker. She lived in Wayne during her early years where her parents ran the Parker House.

Gwen graduated from Winthrop as salutatorian of her high school class. During the war, she worked as a bookkeeper for the railroad in Portland where she met her future husband.

Upon her marriage to Fred Moore in 1946, they moved to Rumford, where they raised their five children. During summers, Fred and Gwen resided on Pocassett Lake in Wayne where Gwen provided services to the Ladd family.

They lived in Rumford until Fred retired in 1980, at which time they moved back to Wayne. In late 2011, they moved into an assisted living facility in Bedford NH, where Fred predeceased her last October. Since then Gwen had been living comfortably while she took great pleasure in telling stories of her past and keeping her visitors and the facilty staff laughing.

Gwen is survived by her son, Terry Moore of Rumford; her daughters, Karen Arsenault of Manchester, NH, Judy White of Essex, VT and Brenda Wurrey of Londonderry, NH, and their spouses, Ray Arsenault, Frank White, and Fred Wurrey. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by Fred, her son Dick and daughter-in-law, Pauline Moore.

Plans are being made for a memorial service in late May. Anyone wishing to honor her memory, please make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.

Albert H. Soucy

DIXFIELD -- Albert H. Soucy, 71, of Dixfield, passed peacefully on April 7, 2012.

He was the youngest born to Rudolph F. and A. Bessie Soucy on May 14, 1940.

After graduating from Stephens High School, Class of 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving four years. Upon his return to Rumford, he married Marjorie (McKinnon) on May 2, 1970, and spent 42 years together, raising two daughters.

Al was a big-hearted man who always had a smile on his face. Most Saturdays you could find him yard saleing. Al and Margie also enjoyed their trips to Foxwoods, but his greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters and spoiling them!

Al leaves behind his wife, daughter Kathy Richard, her husband Jerry and their daughters Natalie and Emily of Rumford, and daughter Darcy Soucy of Auburn.

Al was predeceased by his parents; sister, Eva May Frechette and her husband, George; and brother, Joseph Soucy.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at SG Thibault Funeral Home, where a Time of Sharing and Remembering will follow at 6. Interment will be at a later date in St. John Cemetery. If so desired, contributions in Albert’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.
