Gary Anthony Cormier

PALMDALE, CA -- Gary Anthony Cormier, 57, a native of Rumford and resident of Palmdale, CA, went to be with his Lord Jesus on March 29, 2012. At the time of his passing Gary was in his home, surrounded by many who loved him dearly.

He was born at the Rumford Community Hospital on May 25, 1954, the third son of the late Arthur J. Cormier, Jr. and his wife, Charlene Thompson Cormier, who resides in Rumford.

When Gary came into this world he was three years behind his brother, Michael, who resides with his wife, Starr in North Hollywood, CA, and 11 months behind his brother Eddie, who lives in Rochester, NH with his wife, Brenda.

Gary had a big dream at a very young age of being on the radio. After attending Rumford schools and graduating from Rumford High School in 1972, he started his career at the local AM station, WRUM. He moved on to become a well-known radio personality in New England on such stations as "The Eagle" in Auburn, WMOU in Berlin and WZPK "the Peak" at Mt. Washington.

Gary moved to Virginia in 1997, where he continued to display his radio talent on WYYD in the Lynchburg-Roanoke area for a few years before moving to Antelope Valley in California and a station in the high desert, KCEL.

The most important event in Gary's life came in October of 1972 when he was born again into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The impact of that moment remained in his heart from that time on, through good times as well as hard times. He could even be heard in the hospital hallways, telling anyone who would listen about his faith in Jesus. Those who were privileged to witness his passing and to hear his last words spoken on this earth were blessed to see him raise his arms and to speak the words,"Praise You, Jesus."

Those friends he loved to roller skate with at the Mexico rink in the late 60's; those loved ones he shared his music, his laughter and his tears, and his dry sense of humor with; those who crossed his path but for only an instant, such as the homeless man in Atlanta, the angel lady at the garage sale and many others whom only Gary knew.

In addition to Mike and Eddie, those mourning Gary's passing and yet rejoicing in his eternal life include his mother, Charlene Thompson Cormier of Rumford; brother, Tim and his wife, Jean, sister, Regina Child and her husband, John, brother, Andy and his fiancee, Debbie, and sister, Martha Moulton and her husband, Richard, all of Rumford, and sister, Maryann Williams and husband, John of Appomattox VA; Aunt Gloria Sites of Sabattus; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from all over. His departure is mourned by his best and longtime friend, Bill Oliver of Palmdale, whom Gary considered another brother.

The love and care he showed to Gary especially during the last four-plus years can never be fully appreciated. It was miraculous. The entire Cormier family acknowledges and extends the deepest thank you to Bill, whom we could never repay for all that he did for our beloved Gary. We, too have taken him in our hearts and call him brother.

A memorial service will be announced in the future in the Rumford Falls Times.
