Pearley A. Duguay

WEST PARIS -- Pearley A. Duguay, 79, of Swett Avenue in Mexico, died on March 13, 2012 at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris following a brief illness.

He was born in Mexico on June 4, 1932, a son of Desire and Evelyn (Strout) Duguay.

Pearley was educated in Mexico schools.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54.

Pearley was employed as a machinist with Boise Cascade for many years.

He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior.

Pearley was a member of the American Legion.

He loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and four wheeling.

Surviving are his son, Wayne A. Duguay and wife Nancy of Spruce Head, ME; a daughter Jodie L. Grant and husband John of Mexico; a sister, Hilda Rouleau of Rumford; five brothers, Lewis Duguay and wife Ann of Mexico, Kenneth Duguay and companion Andrea of Rumford, Raymond Duguay and wife Jackie of Mexico, Thurl Duguay and wife Joan of Rumford, and Robert Duguay and wife Gertrude of Carthage, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Jennifer Duguay, Kurt Duguay and Kenneth Grant; and a brother in law Maurice Allen and wife Clara of Mexico.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Arlene, a sister Theresa and a brother Desire Duguay, Jr.

Catherine “Gloria” Lavorgna

RUMFORD -- Catherine “Gloria” Lavorgna, 77, died on Jan. 19, 2012 at the Rumford Hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was a resident of Osgood Avenue in Mexico.

Born in Mexico on August 11, 1934, she was a daughter of Joseph (Farmer Jones) and Angie (Peters) Arsenault.

She was a graduate of Mexico High School with the Class of 1952 and was a proud Pinto.

She worked for many local shoe shops in the area.

Gloria was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior St. Athanasius-St. John Church; she enjoyed her summers in Prince Edward Island, Canada and winters in Fort Myers, FL.

She was an avid Bingo player; a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who always had plenty of M&M’s for all.

She was a member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post #24 American Legion Auxiliary, LeParesseux Snowshoe Club, and Rumford Falls Aerie #1248 FOE.

She was married in Mexico on Sept. 3, 1956 to Anthony Lavorgna, who survives of Mexico.

Other survivors include five sons, Edward of Mexico, Joseph and his wife, Pattie of Alaska, David and his companion, Audrey of Mexico, Danny of Mexico, Dale and his companion, Catherine of Mexico; a daughter, Paris White and her husband, Larry of Plymouth; a sister, Rita Woods of Rumford; 26 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons, Anthony and Eugene; and three sisters, Marie Preble, Eleanor Martin and Theresa Arsenault.

The family would like to thank the Rumford Hospital and staff for the care and comfort extended to Gloria and her family.

William J. “Baldy” Cunningham

RUMFORD -- William J. “Baldy” Cunningham, 90, died on December 28, 2011 at the Rumford Hospital.

He was a resident of Penobscot Street in Rumford.

Born in Rumford on August 14, 1921, he was a son of Peter and Lozia (Richard) Cunningham.

He attended Rumford Schools.

He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard as a Master Sergeant.

He worked for Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Rumford as a Tin Knocker until his retirement.

He was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior St. Athanasius-St. John Church where he was a very active volunteer.

He was a member of Ambrose J. Barry Council #2091 Knights of Columbus, Robert Shand Post #1641 VFW and Napoleon Ouellette Post #24 American Legion.

He was married in Rumford on May 29, 1948 to Selina Gallant, who died in Rumford on Nov. 19, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Curato and her husband, Michael “Dane” of Rumford, and Gloria Aron and her husband, Michael of Harpswell; grandchildren, Tracy Prather and her husband, Scott of Smyrna GA, Cara Vicari and her husband, Keith of Rumford, Lani Bisson and her husband, Jeff of Rumford, Patrick Aron and his wife, Erin of Topsham; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Lola Bisson, Michael and Mary Claire Prather, and Jameson Aron; a brother, Peter Cunningham, and his wife, Jeanne of Rumford.

Harold “Harry” Blaisdell, Jr.

BOSTON, MA -- Harold “Harry” Blaisdell, Jr. died unexpectedly on February 15, 2012.

He was born the son of Harold and Loretta (Gironda) Blaisdell on December 30, 1946.

He graduated from Dixfield High School in 1965.

Harry spent his career at the Boston City Library, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

In his younger years, he spent countless hours working odd jobs to provide special gifts for his younger siblings.

He will be remembered for his smile, wit, humor and unwavering love.

His heart was huge, always willing to put others before himself.

Harry often spoke of his friends from “home” and how he treasured their friendships.

All who knew him appreciated his artistic talent and his gift of the written word.

His heart was huge, he was loved and will be greatly missed.

Heaven is brighter with his presence.

He is survived by his brother, Michael “Blaze” Blaisdell of Bethel; sisters, Bonnie Cappucci of Manchester, CT, and Bettina Desrochers of Vermont; his stepmother, Rachel Blaisdell of Jay; nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncle.

He was predeceased by his parents and a nephew, Harold M. Blaisdell

Friends and family are invited to gather at Dixfield Congregational Church Annex on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to honor the memory of Harold (Budgie) Blaisdell.

Helen Etta Virgin

FARMINGTON -- Helen Etta Virgin, 75, of Mexico, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2012, at Edgewood Nursing Home in Farmington.

She was born at the family home in Mexico on Nov. 17, 1936, the seventh child of Stanwood W. and Evangeline C. (Fuller) Virgin. Helen received her education through the Mexico School System, worked for Forster’s Manufacturing Company for 25 years, and lived the majority of her life in her welcoming home on River Road in Mexico.

She so enjoyed being with her large, close, and loving family, especially spending holidays with her sister, Linda and her family.

She loved playing cards, Farmington Fair, Country Music, shopping, search word puzzles, walking, and simply enjoying life.

A favorite remembrance of hers was her trip to Tucson, AZ with her sister, Ruth to visit her sister, Fay and brother-in-law, Frank.

She is survived by following sisters and their husbands: Linda Brown, Fay and Frank Hutchinson, Ruth and John Snell, Florence and Hurchial Noyes of Carthage, Katherine and Theodore Carrier of Lewiston, and Cora Doucette and Marilyn Finnegan of Mexico; her brother, Stanwood E. Virgin and wife, Geraldine of Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.

Helens parents; brother, James L. Virgin; brothers-in-law, Elwin Brown, William Doucette and Gene Finnegan predeceased her.

The family would like to thank Helen’s loving and caring extended family (Andrea, Angela, Donna, Amy, Val, Patty, and Shelly).

They and many others were extra special to her and she to them, thus making Edgewood Nursing Home her “home.”

Funeral services 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford, with Pastor Barry Trask officiating.

Friends are invited to call after noon prior to the funeral.

Interment in the spring will be in the Newman Cemetery, Carthage.

Joseph E. St. Pierre

RUMFORD -- Joseph E. St. Pierre, 78, died on February 18, 2012 at home with loving family by his side.

He was born in North Livermore on June 3, 1933, a son of Jules and Antonia St. Pierre.

He graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1952, then served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and later graduated from SMVTI in South Portland in 1956.

In 1956, he married Annette I. Castonguay at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.

Joe worked for Oxford Paper/Boise Cascade for 33 years retiring in 1989.

He operated a family Christmas Tree Farm for over 30 years.

He was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior in Rumford.

Joe was also blessed with a full and happy life with his loving family of whom he was extremely proud.

Surviving are his wife, Annette Castonguay St. Pierre of Rumford; a son, Andre J. St. Pierre and wife, Annette M. of Peru; four daughters, Rita Lavoie and husband, Albert of Minot, Joline Boudreau and husband, Gerry of Rumford, Lucille Belanger and husband, Mark of Rumford, and Roseanne McKeen and husband, Donald of Dixfield; two brothers, Alfred St. Pierre and wife, Camille of Naples, FL, and Roland St. Pierre and wife, Linda of No. Livermore; two sisters, Irene Castonguay of No Livermore, and Juliette Maurais and husband, Amedee of Livermore; ten grandchildren, Jenna Guest and husband, Jason, Nicole Matson and husband, Thomas, Erica St. Pierre, Rebecca Boudreau, Rachel Boudreau, Kendall Boudreau, Kristin Arsenault and husband, Ryan, Evan Belanger, Lindsay McKeen, and Colette McKeen; and one great-grandchild, Emma Matson.

He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Romeo St. Pierre, Rene St. Pierre and Albert St. Pierre; and a sister, Alice Castonguay.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at SG Thibault Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Parish of the Holy Savior.

Spring Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to the Lariviere Oncology Unit, c/o Rumford Hospital, 420 Franklin St., Rumford, ME 04276, or Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 284 Main St., Suite 290, Wilton, ME 04294.

Joseph "Joey" Fred Mann

GREENE -- Joseph "Joey" Fred Mann, 46, of Dixfield lost his life Sunday, Feb. 12, in a snowmobile accident.

He was born May 6, 1965, in Greene, the son of Elsworth and Joyce Mann.

As a young boy, he moved to Peru to live with his foster parents Ernest and Joyce Roy.

At the age of 18, Joey moved to Dixfield with his good friends Paul and Darlene Mease.

Paul and Joey both shared a love of the outdoors.

They enjoyed watching deer in the fields,cutting firewood, attending racing events, and spent many days fishing together.

Joey also enjoyed hanging out with their son, Joel, who was a great friend to him.

He shared in the responsibility, joy, and excitement helping Darlene with the golden doodles.

He loved the beauty, intelligence, and companionship these dogs possessed.

He had such a love for animals.

Joey worked at Sunday River ski resort for a brief time where he took the opportunity to learn to ski, and loved it.

He was a jack of all trades, a helpful handyman. he always liked to help tinker.he worked around the area for many farmers, hard working and always willing to lend a hand.

His heart was pure and true. he was a devoted son, always making time to visit his mom, Joyce.

If the roads were to icy to travel he would take to the trails to brighten her day.

Those that knew Joey may find comfort knowing he spent his last days doing what he loved.

Joey had a passion for snowmobiling.

As he once stated to his good friend and riding buddy, Steve Rudge "I live to ride," and that he did.

Survivors include his parents, Elsworth and Joyce Mann; his good friend, Darlene Mease of Dixfield; his brothers, Michael Mann of Wales, Bruce Quartroicchi of Massachusetts, William Stratton of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews; and many friends

Family and friends would like to thank Dave Chabot, and the Maine Wardens Service, Maine Forest Service, Androscroggin Sheriffs Dept., the Lewiston Snowmobile Club, Hillside Family Club, and all others involved in the search and rescue.

A sincere heartfelt thank you to everyone for bring Joey home.

Delma L. LaPerle

PORTLAND -- Delma L. LaPerle, 88, died on February 19, 2012, surrounded by his wife and children.

He was formerly of Rumford.

Born in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada on April 9, 1923, he was son of Alfred and Fabiola (Cote) LaPerle. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1941. He worked at Oxford Paper Company in Rumford and also owned and operated LaPerle Bros. Memorials in Rumford with his brother, Roma.

Delma was a communicant of the Parish of The Holy Savior St. Athanasius-St. John Church in Rumford.

He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed the family gatherings.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and skiing.

He also enjoyed his camp, which he built, on Worthley Pond in Peru.

He was married in Rumford on August 12, 1950 to the love of his life and best friend, Doris “Dodi” Terrell, who survives of Portland.

Other survivors include two daughters, Michelle Kane and her husband, Michael of Gray, and Lisa Freitas and her husban, Oscar of Cape Elizabeth; a son, Geary LaPerle and his wife, Debby of Auburn; six grandchildren, Sarah and Adam LaPerle, Devon and Alyssa Freitas, Matthew and Joshua Kane.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Donat, Alva and Roma; and sisters, Leona, Elodia, Rhea and Diana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Friday at The Parish of The Holy Savior St. Athanasius–St. John Church in Rumford.

Interment in the spring will be in St John Cemetery, Rumford.

Friends are invited to call at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford on Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass.
