Charles "Howie" Foss

CONNECTICUT – Charles H. Foss, Jr. also know as “Howie” by his friends, 43, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday January 28, 2003.

Howie was born in Saco, ME on March 18, 1959, the son of Charles Howard and Joyce Mae Foss. He attended Kennebunk schools.

For the past year he had been living in Connecticut. He was employed by an Elementary school as its custodian. Howie loved the beach, skiing and could often be found socializing with his friends.

He is predeceased by a sister Denise Bryant in August.

Howie is survived by a son, Charles Tyler Foss of Alfred; a daughter, Shyla Rose Foss of North Carolina; a sister Rhonda-Jo Foss of Arundel; four nieces and two nephews.

An hour of visitation will be held from 4 to 5 PM on Tuesday February 4, 2003 followed by a service at 5 PM at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

Charles W. Philbrick Sr. 88, a resident of Kennebunk formerly of Arundel Road , Kennebunkport died Monday June 16, 2003 at the Riverridge , Kennebunk after a long illness.
He was born in Kennebunkport, Me on May 16 1915 a son of George and Clarissa (Speed) Philbrick.

He graduated from Kennebunkport High School and was a WWII veteran serving the United States Navy.

Charles was a long time carpenter and builder in Kennebunkport area for many years.
He enjoyed gardening and his yard work

He was predeceased by his wife Elsie E. Hutchins Philbrick , his daughter Beatrice Philbrick and a brother R. Longley Philbrick.

He is survived by his son Charles W. Philbrick Jr of Edgartown, MA and 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 10 AM Friday at the Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport with the Reverend David Wigley officiating.

Adelaide E. "Betty" Corey

Adelaide Elizabeth “Betty” Corey, 84, of Arundel, Kennebunk and most recently the Barron Center,died peacefully Friday January 10, 2003 surrounded by her family at the Barron Center in Portland, ME.

She was born September 8, 1918 in Biddeford, ME a daughter of Fred Wallace and Nellie Watson.
She attended Milbridge and Biddeford Schools.

She was a longtime resident of Kennebunk and was employed with Howard Johnson’s for over 20 years. Mrs. Corey was a member of the retired teachers association and was active in Four-H and the York County Extension. She was also secretary of the Maine Dairy Council. Mrs. Corey was a member of the Second Congreational Church in Biddeford, and also belonged to Christ’s Church in Kennebunk.
She enjoyed knitting, traveling with her sister, and time with her family.
She is predeceased by her husband Arnold Lee Corey and a sister Clara Stone.

Mrs. Corey is survived by her four children Francis Ouellette of Haverhill, MA, Carolyn Myers of Arundel,ME, Kenneth Corey of Biddeford, ME, and Beth Corey-Smith of West Gardiner, ME. She is also survived by three sisters Ruth Corey of Portland, ME, Anna Wallace of Biddeford, ME, and Esther Wallace of Haverhill, MA, seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Monday January 13,from 5-8 at Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer St. Kennebunk ME.
A service will be held at the Chapel Tuesday at 10:00am with the Rev. David Wiggley officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Greenwood cemetery in Biddeford, ME.

Agnes Royal Dargis

Agnes M. Dargis, age 87, resident of Hunting Common, formerly of Fletcher St. Kennebunk and Ellsworth died Monday March 17th. She is the widow of Edward Dargis who died in 1985.

Mrs. Dargis was born in Ellsworth July 13, 1915 the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Brown) Royal. She is a graduate of Ellsworth High School.
She moved to Kennebunk in 1955 from Hallowell, Me. Mrs. Dargis is a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Huntington Common Welcoming Committee and Advocate and a President of the Residents Council. She has enjoyed gardening, art work, traveling, dancing to the music of the “Big Band” era in her earlier years, playing bridge at the Senior Center and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Mrs. Dargis is survived by her sons Paul R. Dargis and his wife Karen of Kennebunk, Robert E. of Chelsea MA, and Daughter Mrs. Carolyn P. Higgins of Kennebunkport, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Friends may call Wednesday 3-5 and 6-8 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St, Kennebunk. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, March 20, with the Reverend Richard Horner at the Chapel.

Ardelle Fall

BERWICK – Ardelle L. Fall, 93, of Worster Road, and life long resident of Berwick, died on Saturday January 18, 2003 at her residence.

Ms. Fall was born in Saco, a daughter of Edward C. and Martha I. Litchfield and raised on Mountain View Farm in Berwick. She was educated in Berwick schools.

She was employed by professors at UNH as a live in nurse. She enjoyed gardening; animals and traveling with her late husband Tristram.

She is predeceased by her husband; a son Kenneth Fall; a daughter Mary Hamnett; and son in law Lewis Hamnett.

Ms. Fall is survived by a daughter M. Lucille Short of Berwick; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a special great granddaughter, Jennie Fall, whom lived with Ms. Fall with for 11 years; and step children.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Monday January 20 at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick, where a funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday January 21 with the Rev. Robert Cole officiating. Spring Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, cemetery Road, Berwick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ms. Fall’s memory to an animal shelter of one’s choice.

Carolyn J. Cray, age 64, resident of Burnt Mill Rd, died Friday at Southern Maine Medical Center.

Carolyn was born in Portland, ME July 17, 1938, a daughter of Sherman O. and Lillian M. (Wallace) Berry. She was a graduate of Wells High School and a member of Wells Congregational Church. Carolyn was employed at Pratt & Whitney for 19 years as a supervisor. She enjoyed gardening, her family and taking charge of the situation.

Carolyn is survived by her mother Lillian M. Berry of Wells, sisters Ruth L. Cray of Kennebunk, Sally C. Allen of Concord NH and Hester E. Martin of Braintree, MA, half brothers Alan Cray of Charlotte NC, Don H. Cray of Scarborough, half sister Sharon Emery of Fairfield, ME, longtime companion Rita Bourgault and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Her stepfather Hiram S. Berry and nephew Brian Allen predeceased her.

Friends may call Monday 6-8 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd., Wells. A funeral service will be held Tuesday 11 AM at the Wells Congregational Church with Rev. Herbert Henry officiating.

Kennebunk- Diederik S. (Dirk) Osselaer 57 years, a resident of Western Ave, Kennebunk formerly of Belgium died Tuesday at his home after a brief illness.
Dirk was born in Geraardsbergen, Belgium on May 18, 1945 a son of Jozef and Marie-Louise (Van Bossuyt) Osselaer and attended Belguim schools. He graduated from college in Belgium where he received his degree in accounting, Art and Dental Technician.
He came to Kennebunk in 1992 and was employed by Rainbow Rugs in Sanford for several years and also worked as Accountant for Moore North America ofDover, NH for several years.
He was a mug member at the Federal Jacks of Kennebunk.
He enjoyed working with his hands, cooking, drawing painting, making jewelry and spending time with his family and friends.

His wife Colleen says that her husband ‘s motto was “Don’t throw anything away-it can be always used to fix something”.

He is survived by his wife Colleen Hanson Osselaer of Kennebunk, a son Bart Osselaer and his wife Annik of Belgium, a daughter Ilse O. Philbrick and her husband Peter of Kennebunkport and two step sons Matthew and Christopher Tardiff both of Kennebunk three brothers Jan, Erik, Geert Osselaer and a sister Gaby Osselaer all of Belgium, Several nieces, nephews and several brothers in laws and sisters in laws , three grandchildren Kim and Levi Osselaer and Nina Marie Philbrick and his America Family “The Woods” of York, Maine .

A Celebration of life memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk with the Reverend Laurant Laplante officiating.

Dirk has requested in lieu of flowers, that you plant your favorite flowers or put a bird feeder in your own garden in his memory. Other memorial donations may be made to the York Elks- Children Cancer Fund Raiser, York Elks Lodge # 2788 P.O. Box 711 York, Maine 03904 in Dirk’s memory.

Donald J. Galvin

KENNEBUNK - Donald J. Galvin, of Pine Bluff, Cat Mousam Rd, Kennebunk, Maine passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Southern Maine Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Millinocket, on July 7, 1918 the youngest child of George and Ellen Galvin. He attended schools in Millinocket and the Brothers of Mary Seminary in New York City. In 1941 Donald entered the US Army serving in the Medical Corps. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, Don was employed by Doctors’ Hospital in New York City. He was employed by John Wanamaker’s in New York, then moved to Philadelphia and worked at the Rittenhouse Plaza.

Donald enjoyed his vacations at home, especially in Kennebunk, where, during the summer, he was often a winner of dance contests at the Wells Casino. He was a self-taught musician who played a mean jazz piano. Don returned to Kennebunk after major heart surgery in “Philly” to live with his sister, Mary. He formed many friendships over the years with those that cared for him and enabled him to live alone at Pine Bluff. Louise Hill, Dot Turner, Doug Rogers and Susie Eddenberger were just a few of these special people.

Don was predeceased by four brothers, Daniel, John, George and Francis; three sisters, Catherine Michaud, Margaret Lesuer, and her twin sister, Mary Ellen Durgin; and nephews George and Patrick Galvin.

Donald leaves sister-in-law Marie Galvin; cousins, Mary and Margaret Whalen, Rose Jamo, Catherine Bonis and her husband, Charles, Michael Provenzano, husband of the late Patricia Provenzano, and Harry and Sharon Rush; nieces Carole Ann Greely and her husband, George of Biddeford, Ellen Galvin of Millinocket, and Nancy Townsend of Lakeland FL and husband Don and Catherine Jane Galvin of Portland; nephews George Galvin and his wife Julie of Kennebunk, John Durgin and his wife, Nina of Thomaston, Paul Michaud of Millinocket, and Byron “Chuck” Lesuer and his friend Barry Doughty of Chebeague Island. Donald was like a father to his grandniece Anne Marie Mustapha, who with husband, Morgan , gave him three great grandnephews Ryan, Patrick and Seamus. Don was close to his other grandnieces Shawna Durgin, who looked upon him as her special uncle, Lorilee Durgin Reuillard, husband Mark; Lisa and husband Bob Conn; and Shawna Galvin and grandnephew Peter Mark Galvin. He also leaves great grandnephews Nicholas, Alexander and Spencer Reuillard.

Visiting hours will be 2 - 4 PM and 7 - 9PM on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Thursday, March 27, at St. Martha’s Church, Kennebunk with Father Laurent LaPlante officiating. Internment will be in Millinocket later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald’s memory to the American Council of the Blind, 1155 15th Street, NW, Suite 1004, Washington, DC 20005, or the Veterans Administration at Togus, Office Center, 1 VA Center, Togus, ME 04330, or the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Joan Burmann

Joan M. Burmann of Wells, Maine, passed away March 31, 2003,after a brief illness.
Joan was born in New York City Feb. 5, 1933. She grew up in Great Neck, N.Y., where she attended Great Neck High School, and later met and married Frederick M. Burmann. Joan and Fred
started their family in Framingham, Mass., later moving to Brookfield, where they lived for 20 years. In 1987, they moved to Flintlock Village in Wells, Maine, close to the ocean, where Joan enjoyed time spent at the beach, both alone and with her children
and grandchildren.
Joan was a talented artist who drew her inspiration from the beauty and tranquillity of the coast of Maine. She created many wonderful paintings and hooked rugs, which are and will be
enjoyed for years to come. Joan was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, and was cherished by those whose lives she touched.
Joan is survived by her four children, Bruce Burmann of Roxbury, Christine Wilkinson and her husband, Jack, of Newbury, Mass., Robert Burmann and his wife, Maureen, (son, Brett) of Bridgewater, and Karen Boyle and her husband, Keith, (daughters,
Britt and Erin) of Conifer, Cob. Joan is also survived by two sisters, Sonja Willett of Bellingham, Mass., and Gail Harmon, of Plagah Forest, N.C.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
An afternoon service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, Maine.
An early spring memorial service is also planned for Connecticut, where the family lived for many years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Joan’s
memory be sent to one of the following organizations:

Alan Scott Edmond

Alan S. Edmond. 49, of Settlers Way, Kennebunk, died Sunday May 25 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Me. with his family at his side.

He was born in Framingham, MA. on October 8, 1953, the son of Hubert and Edith (Anderson)Edmond. He attended Framingham schools and graduated in 1972 from South High School. He was a standout basketball player, having his “#4” jersey retired at the end of his high school career. He attended Assumption College in Worcester, MA as a scholarship basketball player and graduated in 1976 with a degree in mathematics. It was there he met his wife, Barbara Taylor, and they were married on June 25, 1977.

Mr. Edmond taught mathematics for a number of years at Hingham High School. He then
became an industrial engineer first for J.F. McElwain Company, a shoe manufacturer in Nashua NH and then for Health-tex manufacturer of children’s clothes in Central Falls, RI. It is with Health-tex that he first moved to Maine in 1982, residing in Topsham, and became production
production manager for DAVOL in Cranston, RI, he returned to Maine in 1989, where he held supervision roles for CYRO Industries in Sanford and LL Bean Manufacturing in Brunswick. He has worked in inventory control at INCON in Saco for the past five years.

His favorite place in the world was the family summer camp on the shores of Lake St. George in Liberty, ME where he spent many hours fishing and canoeing. He was an avid exerciser, enjoying running, walking and of late his recumbent bike, in addition to following his children in their sports careers.

Often referred to as “Big Al” because of his large 6’6” stature, he was a loving husband, super
dad and playful brothcr and uncle. He would oftcn be found surrounded on the living room floor by a pile of kids - wrestling, tickling and making laughter abound. The family are parishioners at St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk.

Surviving are his mother and father of Westboro, MA, his wife of 26 years, Barbara and two children Scott and Meagan Edmond of Kennebunk and a sister Patricia Edmond Rogers of Westhoro, MA.

Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk Thursday evening from 5 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11AM Friday at St. Martha’s Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk with the Reverend’s Laurent Laplante and Paul Coughlin as celebrants.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made “In memory of Alan Edmond” to the United Way of York County Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 727, Kennebunk, ME 04043.
