MARGUERITE M. CONNELL NOTTAGE

WEST FARMINGTON - Marguerite M. Connell Nottage of West Farmington, died June 2, 2003, in Bangor. The youngest daughter of James E. and Margaret L. (McCarthy) Connell, she was born on May 23, 1910, in Stoneham, Mass. Educated in the parochial and public schools of Stoneham, she graduated from Stoneham High School in 1928 and Salem Normal School in 1930. An influential teacher, she taught for several years in the Stoneham area schools, at times without pay during the Depression years, until her marriage to James A. Nottage in November 1936. The couple resided in West Farmington, where they raised four daughters. She continued teaching in the Farmington area schools from 1955 to 1975. She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Beisaw of Wilton, Judith Nottage and husband, Norman Thurlow of Hampden, Shirley and husband, Tom Flynn of St. Clairsville, Ohio; six grandchildren, James Beisaw and wife, April of Ann Arbor, Mich., Michael Beisaw of Rumford, Stephen Beisaw of Wilton, Paul and Joe Flynn of St. Clairsville, Jennifer and husband, Anthony O'Hare of Washington, D.C.; great-grandchild, Ian O'Hare; nephew, James Coleman and wife, Gail of Stoneham; niece, Virginia Lovejoy of Dixfield; grandniece, Pat Fish of Bradley. She was predeceased by her husband, James; daughter, Marilyn Marshall; grandson, Lawrence Marshall of West Farmington; and two sisters, Bernice Coleman and Dorothy Connell of Stoneham. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Western Mountains Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington. Friends wishing may make donations in her memory to West Farmington Village Improvement Society Scholarship Fund, care of Martha Bessey, P.O., West Farmington, ME 04992.

THERESE B. MCCLUSKEY

HOULTON - Therese B. McCluskey, 74, died June 2, 2003, at Houlton. She was born on Sept. 7, 1928, in Stockholm, the daughter of George and Bertha (Dube) Pelletier. Therese was a very devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was survived by three children, Linda McCluskey- Sinclair and her husband, Ric, of Hermon, Michael and his wife, Janice McCluskey, of Smyrna, Timothy and his wife, Linda McCluskey, of Hermon; seven grandchildren, Troy and his wife, Susan Porter, Amber and her husband, Matt Merrill, Matthew, Tyler, Andrew, Bradley and Quincie McCluskey, two great-grand-children, Lucas and Molly Porter; three sisters, Joyce Lovely of Fort Fairfield, Joanne Coleman of Youngstown, Ohio, Harriett Lawlor of Oakfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased her husband, Gerald in 2001; her parents; two brothers and one sister, Jack, Fern, and Wayne. A mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Houlton, with the Father Eddy Morin celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. A time of fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center immediately following. Arrangements by the Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.

ELEANOR B. AYOOB

BANGOR - Eleanor (Bradley) Ayoob, 85, wife of Kalil Ayoob, died Monday morning, June 2, 2003, at her home, 96 Thomas Hill Road, Bangor, following a long illness. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Adeline Lambert Burke. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Ayoob of Elkins Park, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ayoob of Natick, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Ayoob was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a former member of the Athene Club and a member of the Bangor Daily News Women's Bowling League. On Aug. 31, of this year, Mrs. Ayoob and her husband would have observed their 62nd wedding anniversary. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Kevin Holsapple, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Gifts in her memory may be made to the memorial fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, 234 French St., Bangor.

ARNOLD and ELEANOR VEAGUE
BANGOR, CASTINE and COCOA BEACH, FLA. - A service of remembrance for Arnold and Eleanor Veague will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church, Bangor, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., following the 11 a.m. service. Interment with committal prayers will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Castine Cemetery, Castine, with the Rev. William Friederich, pastor of Trinitarian Parish Church, UCC, Castine, officiating.

CONVERSE C. BUNKER JR.

FRANKLIN - Converse C. Bunker Jr., 56, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at a Milbridge health care facility. He was born in Bangor, Feb. 27, 1947, the son of Converse C. and Annie I. (Willey) Bunker. Converse is survived by two brothers, Stacy and Michael Bunker, both of Franklin; two sisters, Rhonda Bunker of Franklin, and Sharon Blakely of Newton, Mass., several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Bayview Cemetery, Blacks Woods Road, Franklin. Arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Ellsworth.

MERLE W. CLEMENT

PENOBSCOT - Merle W. Clement, 70, died June 2, 2003, at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous bat-tle with cancer. He was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Castine, the son of Mervyn W. and Hazel (Butler) Clement of Penobscot. Merle graduated from Bucksport High School in 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 109 of Ellsworth, the Rising Star Masonic Lodge No. 177 of Penobscot, and the Castine Grange No. 250, where he was a member for 56 years. He retired from Champion Paper Co. of Bucksport in 1999, after 22 years of service. Merle was a wonderful person. His love in life was his family, friends, and his farm. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Merle is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary (Winchester) Clement of Penobscot; one daughter, Diane Clement-French and husband, Brian French, of Penobscot; two brothers, Linwood Clement and wife, Ruth, of Penobscot, Robert Clement and wife, Earnestine, of Hancock; twin sisters, Marilyn Calder of Penobscot, Carolyn Smith and husband, John, of Limington; step-sister, Barbara Black of Penobscot; sister-in-law, Pauline Clement of Orland; step-mother-in-law, Doris Winchester of Bucksport; two half-brothers-in-law, Wade Winchester, Blane Winchester, both of Bucksport; half-sister-in-law, Debbie Stover of Blue Hill; special sister-in-law, Elnora Woodman of Bucksport; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Merle was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Clement; a niece, Linda Calder; and a brother-in-law, Norman Calder. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Baroody, Dr. Blow and the girls at the Oncology Dept. at Blue Hill Hospital, and to the staff in Emergency and ICU at EMMC. At Merle's request there will not be visitation. A graveside funeral service will be held 9 a.m. Thursday at the Castine Cemetery, Castine, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Please donate in Merle's memory to the Ronald McDonald House, or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.

CARROLL R. 'BUDDY' BATES

JONESPORT - Carroll R. "Buddy" Bates, 82, died May 31, 2003, at Downeast Community Hospital.

RALPH 'RUDY' CHESTER FARMER
BIDDEFORD POOL - Ralph "Rudy" Chester Farmer, 68, of Fortunes Rock (Biddeford Pool), and Orford, N.H., died June 10, 2003, at his home in Maine from a heart attack. Rudy was the son of Edith and Ralph Farmer. A native of North Plainville, N.J.

RAY M. AVERY (06/17/2003)
EASTPORT - Ray M. Avery, 78, passed away unexpectedly, June 15, 2003, at the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. He was born Feb. 1, 1925, the sixth of 10 children to Seth E. Avery and Mary (Childs) Avery. He attended Eastport Schools.

ESTHER M. BEAL (06/17/2003)
MILBRIDGE - Esther M. Beal, 75, went home to be with the Lord from her home in Milbridge June 16, 2003, following a brief illness. She was born March 29, 1928, at Milbridge, the daughter of Victor and Dorothy (West) Stanwood.

ALBERT ASHLEY BOWDEN (06/17/2003)
ORRINGTON - Albert Ashley Bowden died at his home Sunday, June 15, 2003. He was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Orrington, the tenth child of Harrison and Inez (Parker) Bowden. Albert attended school in Orrington ad Brewer. He served in the U.S. Army.

WINTERPORT - Graveside memorial services for Charles B. Brantner will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Friends are asked to meet at the Cemetery office, State Street entrance at 1:45 p.m. Arrangements by Foley Funeral Service.

NORBERT J. BURKE JR. (06/17/2003)
SPRINGFIELD - Norbert J. Burke Jr., 74, husband of Kim Burke, died June 16, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Baltimore, Md., April 18, 1929, the son of Norbert J. and Marguerite (Lamble') Burke. Norbert was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

GLENBURN - Joletta A. Campbell, 64, died June 16, 2003, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 23, 1939, in Bangor, the daughter of Ralph and H. Frances (Bradley) Andrews.
